- Pacaya volcano in Guatemala is an active volcano. Located only 1 hours drive from the town of Antigua hiking Pacaya volcano makes a great day trip. We hiked up Volcan Pacaya to the top i
of the volcano.
We actually saw lava coming down the steep slopes of the volcano.. To finish the hike and just when you needed a bit of added energy we got to toast / roast marshmallow in the lava. The dried lava bed has openings and it was literally like sticking your hand in an oven.
It was a fabulous trip and one we would recommend that you climb a volcano if you come to Guatemala or are looking for a trip from Antigua. How many people can actually say they roasted marshmallows on an active volcano.

In case you don't know us - let us introduce ourselves - we are Chris (48) & Marianne (51). We are a married travel couple. We recently quit our jobs and sold our belongings to travel full time.
After more than 22 years of marriage we are still best friends
The aim is we are going to step foot in every country in the world before we die - or die trying !. We are currently also planning an epic around the world road trip. So stayed tuned for more clips as we TREAD the Globe in either Trudy the TREAD camper van or armed with our backpacks!

I hiked this volcano on an afternoon in July. Weather started off beautiful, but the rain came very quickly. I have never seen more water fall from the sky at one time, it was like a river flowing down the trail at the parts where it’s volcanic sand. Dense fog / clouds everywhere but undeniably beautiful. After we roasted marshmallows we stopped at the lava shop. Guatemala is truly spectacular. Can’t wait to go back someday.

What a hike! After the Fuego eruption in June of 2018, I'd be leery of hiking on an active volcano. Another UA-cam channel I follow is Max & Lee+ Occy. They climbed Fuego shortly before it erupted and have a marvelous video about their experience. Max and Lee separated in January 2020 and each have new channels now. Max still uses the original channel and will move over to Max & Occy when that channel grows enough to be monetized. Lee now has Life with Lee.
Max and Lee are such lovely people ... and Occy is gorgeous !! We have seen lots of their videos and their adventures are inspirational xx

Hi Ms Nikki - In Granada there were several tour companies that were dotted around, so just check with a couple and find which one works for you ... they are all good value and seem the same sort of prices 😘😍🙌🤗💐

When you get to Antigua there are loads of companies, but they really are just the taxi service for this trip, as when you arrive there are guides who meet you and take you up - so I would see what deal you can do when you get there 😘👍 You will have a great time and make sure to leave space for souvenirs !! so many beautiful crafts 😍🌴🙌 Kind regards Marianne and Chris xx

Hi Chris - a lot of the tour companies run the same packages - I think on the previous video we share the company and the hostel we stayed in, we are currently driving around the world in a 15 year old campervan LOL and it seems like a distant memory - Enjoy 🎉🙏🚐💜
