FYI: University of St. TOMAS (established in 1611)is not the olderst university but the University of Sn Carlos (Cebu City) in the year 1595. 16yrs earlier than the UST.
Thanks for showing the UST campus, my Alma Mater. Am now in Canada, brings back memories of campus life back in the sixties. Good to see happy students. Lived in the nursing dormitory for four years..
Not just the oldest catholic university, but the oldest university in Asia, much older than the oldest American, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand universities combined. Thanks for visiting my alma mater.
@@huehue7106 It is. UST came to existence in 1611 while the rest only after the next years. When I say 'combined' I'm not talking about adding them all up, I'm referring to the years those universities came to existence.
Thank you for featuring my Alma mater. I spent almost 10 years of my life in that university and I have fond memories of UST. I was also a working student back then when I was i college. I used to work as a cashier in their Accounting office. Your vlog brought me back to memory lane. We now live in Florida . My husband and I met in the University. I hope you enjoy your stay in the Philippines. Stay safe.
Of course, all the students at the Royal and Pontifical University of Santo Tomas speak English flawlessly, otherwise, they wouldn't get past first grade.
Brent, i'm from California and loves watching your positive vibes and outstanding contents, being in the Philippines. I went to Far Eastern University way back and experienced memorable time there. Thanks sharing with us your great adventures in your world travel. God bless
Brent, I really enjoyed this vlog. Throughout the entire video, I couldn't stop smiling. Flying Kell from Iceland was the first foreign UA-camr I follow to visit UST, and you were the second. He is as energetic as you are. He was here before COVID swept the globe. He went to UST, the University of the Philippines, and, if my memory serves me correctly, De Lasalle University and Ateneo University. They rank among the nation's top four colleges. Even the electronic ads of every Light Rail Transit vehicle included his vlog about these universities. However, you were the first to receive this level of support from the university staff. We appreciate your love for our nation and its citizens.
Mabuhay ka, Brent. And we're so grateful for your warm, spontaneous and stimulating vlog about the UST and its constituents. Thank you for taking us with you on this meaningful historic albeit virtual journey. ❤
In Flying Kell's UST Paskuhan 2019 vIdeo, he was given an even warmer welcome reception by the Director and staffs(same persons seen in this video) of the Office of Public Affairs(OPA) . Flying Kell even joined the OPA staffs in their Paskuhan dinner and was bestowed by the OPA Directress and staffs with gifts, a CD of the UST singers, a shoulder bag and a wall clock, designed with the print of Main Buillding. What was so sad was that the OPA Directress passed away almost exactly a year later, I think it was on December 2020, the next year.
@wynncruz1467 I heard the UST BA in economics Cum Laude, went to San Beda Univesity Law school and failed taxation subject. Nah you're not in the top 4 universites in the Phils if your Cum Laude actually failed in Law school subject in another university.
I passed the exam in UST for Fine Arts. My 1st born too passed his exam for Computer Engr. Then my youngest son passed his Hospitality Management exam too. The sad part? We were all weren't able to enroll because it's too far from our home. And my parents don't want us to stay in a dorm. All the same we're glad to say we passed the UST entrance exam. 😄
I am your fan now, dear Brent, because you're just happy, honest and your videos are interesting. I owe you a debt of gratitude because I am a Filipina living in Europe for 35 yrs now. I love to see where you went to school Grant! That would be fun to see where you grew up and how different it is with our schools here in the Philippines.
This is a very nice video Brent! I think you should make this a series. Visits all the top 4 university in the Philippine: University of Santo Tomas, University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University.
thank you, brent! ust doesn't feel as huge as it used to be with all the new skyscrapers hemming the campus in but it's still as beautiful as ever. the current location is pretty new, about a hundred years ago, but there used to be an older location in the walled city that was destroyed in the battle of manila towards the end of the war.
This made me emotional I haven't visited in a long time. I graduated 2013 and maybe went back like twice and the nostalgia just hits me. So many memories, so many hardships and most definitely fun too. It is the best years of my life and I loved my experiences in it. Thank you for showing us the University a lot has changed but a lot is still the same. You didn't even explored the whole Uni but that was a trip down the memory lane for me. It really brings back so many memories. Main building was my home for 4 years. I miss being a student so bad, it was hard but it was more simple. I am glad you had fun and received a warm welcome.

The University of Santo Tomas or UST maybe Asia and the Philippines' oldest existing university, being founded in 1611 but its current Main Building and campus is not that old, dating only from 1929. Why? For it used to be located in Manila's Spanish era walled district of Intramuros until a new campus was established in the-then swampy Manila district of Sampaloc (its present location) and the present Main Building was built in 1929, which was done due to the increasing number of students, which made the old campus already too small. So, the University had acquired two campuses in two different districts of Manila and this went on until 1945, when most of the city, especially Intramuros was destroyed during the Battle for the Liberation of Manila between the returning American forces and defending Japanese forces. The UST old building was destroyed along with most of Intramuros, which made its Dominican administrators to abandon the old site and to fully transfer UST to Sampaloc. But parts of the entrance of the old building in Intramuros was moved to the current campus and rebuilt as the Arch of the Centuries to serve as a memorial to the old campus and its continuity with the current one.

Happy watching your videos, I’m filipina from Cleveland, Ohio. I went to school in National University 2 miles from UST…… Philippines people are always in good vibes, hospitality, religious, and great people……🥰🥰🥰 Thank for visiting God bless….😍😍😍
Thank you so much for visiting my alma mater UST ❤. Yes, it is indeed a very old but very prestigious Catholic University. My mother, aunts, uncles, cousins, my siblings and myself went to UST. I was batch 1987 at that time my course was called BS. Tourism, seeing your video it seems to have been renamed already. Typically many going into the field of Sciences and further to Medicine goes to UST or in the case of my mom she took Pharmacy, my sisters one went into Food Technology and the other into Nursing. There are 4 main gates going into the campus and you were mostly at the Espana gate. Called as such since it exits to Espana Blvd, and if you walk further down Espana Blvd, you would hit the University belt area where some of the other Manila universities are situated. In my time, I often use the Gov. Forbes exit since that was where I can easily take a bus ride going back home daily. It was very providential by the time I finished college, that was the time the public bus system going to my home city stopped. It is interesting to see in your video the many changes inside the premises of UST. In our time, those fastfood kiosks did not exist, so there were more open areas at that time. We just have to contend with the canteen in our colleges or the common cafeteria near the College of Medicine, or if one has time, explore eating outside the campus. And I do not remember seeing many tall bldgs in the immediate horizon, one only sees the immediate tall bldgs/colleges within the premises. It seems they have also made changes to their uniform style too. In our time, apart from the Colleges of Architecture & Fine Arts, and Mass Com, most female students would be wearing an all white uniform but each college has its own design. So one will know visually at least which College one comes from, and the 2nd way is to look at the color of the id's of the students. ID'S were color coded. The only other time we were not wearing our white uniforms was during those days we have PE, each year level tshirt color was color coded so one can visually identify who was a freshman etc. Again, thanks for your vlog..I am a proud Thomasian or Tomasino❤ I also grew up studying in a Catholic school environment, Under the Order of Benedictines and Augustinians for part of elementary and highschool and UST for College. Good to see they are teaching Arnis now in their PE class in UST...How I wish that was also part of our curriculum then.
i graduated in 2000. i miss ust so much. those were some of my best years. i can still remember the smell of flowers in the evening around the campus church. sometimes they carried all the way to asturias st where we stayed. and if you didn't return to the province too soon after the finals, you could catch the la naval procession in dapitan st.
Mr. Brent it's monumental vlogged you did it great pal. It so inspiring for other student that to study hard n give better result for the hard earned money of their parents.
Batch 2005 here. It's always nice to see vloggers do content about UST. I was expecting that you will visit the Quadricentennial Pavilion which is THE gym of the campus. Ma'am giovanna used to be the face of ust when there is a video about UST. God rest her soul, you would have liked her. Cool shirt you got btw!
Of so many foreign vlogs i saw, yours is the first i saw who went to university so wow. Do visit our beaches also Brent. You’re so cool very appreciative to Filipinos.
Thanks for sharing! I graduated from the University of Santo Tomas 33 years ago. I haven’t been back since. Brought back many fun 0:15 memories from the College of Nursing .
Hi Brent! I’m from a different university, so I never had the chance to explore UST. Im a bit jealous of their tradition of wearing Filipiniana while defend if their thesis, that’s super cool! I really enjoyed this video. You were so respectful and engaging.
It’s also considered the oldest Catholic University in the U.S. during 1898-1946 when the Philippines was under the American flag. UST was founded 1611. Harvard University is the oldest Catholic university in the US, founded in 1636.
Even older than Harvard University. Arnis is a Martial Arts from the Philippines. Bruce Lee learned Arnis from a Filipino American Martial Artist Black Belt.
Very impressive!! The Filipino Hospitality is just unbeatable. Thanks to the hot weather in the Philippines that perks the Filipino people up and makes them happy. It is the cold weather in Europe that makes people depressed and sad.
hi Kim you are amazing! my friends and colleagues love this vlog it is brilliant history of the oldest Catholic University of the Philippines and all over Asia
UST is an exceptional institution and deserves much more recognition. Its academic excellence, rich history, and high-quality programs make it one of the best universities in Asia. The university consistently produces top graduates, combining tradition with innovative learning, which keeps it a strong and respected choice in the region. Its dedication to holistic education and commitment to values and service set it apart, proving its impact extends well beyond the classroom.
We used to march during our ROTC in what you call football field. The grandstand we used to do pass in review parade. Thanks for including this because it brings back memories.
@@adianbeat6701 yeah funny but true. Students of UP are rebel minded. They are producing them. Yeah I know 😂 coz it's the premier government state university of the country.
Nice! Graduated in 2007 and probably the best 4 years of my life aside from my high school. Thank you for featuring UST. And yes, those architecture students are probably some of the best future architects of the country. The Architecture program of UST (together with UP), is a center of excellence in the Philippines.
Wow so nice seeing my old alma mater, went to UST for over ten years for pre med and medical school plus internship. I remember those atriums, botanical gardens. My favorite building is the main building where I did my undergrad. A lot of history in those halls. The campus sure has changed since my time there back in the early 2000's. There wasn't even the stadium/sports complex yet. A lot of great memories.
It is a prestigious University. Very intelligent students here. Went to college there on my freshman year before I immigrated to the States😊 ( proud ex-Thomasian, lol). Enjoy the Philippines! Yes visit more top Universities like University of the Philippines ( UST's primary competitor in Law, Medicine & Engineering). Enjoy your stay and checkout the provinces & beaches..I enjoy watching your vlogs. I'm from Southern California and now your new subscriber because of your U.S.T vlog which showed up on my Ytube channel . Fantastic contents Brent !!! 🎉😊
Thank you Brent for visiting our country. I hope you enjoyed the hospitality of our countrymen. And what an awesome thing visiting UST, one of the most competitive universities in our country. Please do visit Boracay, Palawan, Cebu, Siargao and other islands in the Philippines. Once you visit them you would not leave our country anymore. Have a nice time and enjoy your vlog. Take care.
There is a sad part of Santo Toma' history It serve as an interment camp for thousands of Western and foreign nationals(mostly Americans). during WWI. Many perished, and interred within campus grounds. I was hoping you would touch upon the subject, and really explore the walls and certain segments of the building, But a nice blog, I enjoyed it.
Thank you for featuring my alma matter, studied in that university all my life, Elementary, High School and College. Me and my brother were both born in the UST Hospital, my parents both studied there and thats were they met. Reminiscing the old days. Viva Santo Tomas!! Go Uste!!!!
That old building was built in 1920s. The original building of UST established in 1611 was in Intramuros and it was destroyed during the battle of Manila in 1945. Yes, we lost our cultural and architectural heritage in 1945
That was a very cool vlogging you got to this historic University. One show off for PH to the world using your platform. Love your way too of letting people on the way engage your story. Awesome!🙌👍
5:56 There's a myth about that gate: during your freshman year, you must enter it once and never exit through it before graduation. If you do, it’s said that you won't finish your college there.
And there's even a joke that when you pass through the arch again, the statue of Benavides will point you in the direction of the university you'd transfer to😅
Heard about that from one of my professors. I was late for the ceremony in my freshman year and didn't enter the arch. I found myself enrolled in another school far far away two semesters after. Myth is true. 😅
Batch 2010 here. Some of the best years of my life was when I studied here. The nostalgia (and changes) are real. We used to hang out by the field/grandstand after classes. You really picked a good time to visit😊
Love the content! UST will always be my dream school. I remember my college days watching UAAP for UST GROWLING TIGERS and UAAP CHEERING COMPETITIONS for UST SALINGGAWI. Go uste, go go go! Viva espana !

@@poltes5 I graduated in 1990 and just like you I would’ve loved to have Arnis during our time. Missing Uste❤️
i graduated in 2000. i miss ust so much. those were some of my best years. i can still remember the smell of flowers in the evening around the campus church. sometimes they carried all the way to asturias st where we stayed. and if you didn't return to the province too soon after the finals, you could catch the la naval procession in dapitan st.

Go visit the University of the Philippines (UP) in Quezon City next. You’ll love it there too
It’s also considered the oldest Catholic University in the U.S. during 1898-1946 when the Philippines was under the American flag.
UST was founded 1611.
Harvard University is the oldest Catholic university in the US, founded in 1636.
Harvard U has no religious affiliation, I think Georgetown University is the oldest Catholic university in USA.
Even older than Harvard University. Arnis is a Martial Arts from the Philippines. Bruce Lee learned Arnis from a Filipino American Martial Artist Black Belt.
Oh wow that’s really incredible!
Dan Inosanto - baddie in Game of Death. instructor/friend of bruce.
Yeah if Japan as kendo then in Philippines we have arnis
I love this video! Thank you for featuring our alma mater. I want to visit UST again...
A former student there during the late 80’S, brought back a lot of good memories while watching your vlog. Go USTE!
Very impressive!! The Filipino Hospitality is just unbeatable. Thanks to the hot weather in the Philippines that perks the Filipino people up and makes them happy. It is the cold weather in Europe that makes people depressed and sad.
THE OLDEST EXCLUSIVE SCHOOL FOR BOYS AND EXCLUSIVE SCHOOL FOR GIRLS IN THE WHOLE OF ASIA ARE ALSO HERE IN MANILA PHILIPINES

Awww, very sweet staff from UST Public Affair.

Vanda ustii is a rare orchid species native to Philippines, named after UST. They have it in the botanical garden.
Thank you for this vlog, I get to see UST campus. You are very friendly. ❤
Nice! Graduated in 2007 and probably the best 4 years of my life aside from my high school. Thank you for featuring UST. And yes, those architecture students are probably some of the best future architects of the country. The Architecture program of UST (together with UP), is a center of excellence in the Philippines.
I just scrolling when i see your blog so im here sir ❤thank you for loving Philippines
I’m surprised to see in the Philippines in one of the famous universities.enjoyed your journey in my home country!Philippines👍🏽
What an amazingly entertaining vlog! New sub watching from Chicago 👋
I enjoyed watching! I am a Thomasian graduated year 1985. So proud of all the students and teachers and school personnel!
It's older than Harvard University. Really. 😊
Thank you for the UST tour! I miss UST! I’m here in Minnesota! 😊😊
That big field is where we played soccer, you are right! Some other sports too since it's quite big. I miss it 😊
Omg the entire faculty is so awesome i need them very much.
My alma mater!!! A lot of changes since I graduated. Very nostalgic, I cherish those days.
Take care.
I graduated from UST in 1978. This is the first time I've seen that campus since I graduated. Very nice. Greetings from South Carolina.
Proud Thomasian here, spent eight wonderful years at UST from high school to college. So glad you featured UST. God bless you!
Thank you for featuring my alma mater. UST education is world class. Really good training! I am living proof.
Yes, we lost our cultural and architectural heritage in 1945
Hopefully someday ma rebuild yung original UST and yung Ateneo De Manila
Thank you for featuring my alma mater...proud to be a Thomasian batch '69💕
Thank you Brent
❤❤❤ nice you are there in UST the old school in the philippines.
That ending was super nice! Tke care Brent! God bless!
That was a very cool vlogging you got to this historic University. One show off for PH to the world using your platform. Love your way too of letting people on the way engage your story. Awesome!🙌👍
Thank you so much! I appreciate you watching! Hope I earned your subscription!
Brings back high school and college memories. Batch 2K here. Unending grace to UST.
5:56 There's a myth about that gate: during your freshman year, you must enter it once and never exit through it before graduation. If you do, it’s said that you won't finish your college there.
I didnt know that myth 😂
And there's even a joke that when you pass through the arch again, the statue of Benavides will point you in the direction of the university you'd transfer to😅
I entered and exited that gate during my first day in UST. Thank goodness I still graduated.
@@raxor81 what's that university? MLQU Feati U. or Ortañez U.? ahhahahahahh
Not FEU or UE 😂😂
Heard about that from one of my professors. I was late for the ceremony in my freshman year and didn't enter the arch. I found myself enrolled in another school far far away two semesters after. Myth is true. 😅
New subscriber here from the Philippines love you
Nice vlog . Continue what you are doing.....
That’s a Grand Stand at UST. The University of Santo Tomas was founded in 1611.
Hey Brent, you just visited if not, One of the best Catholic school in the world. You just don't recognized the way the students speak and communicate in English, the accent and the communication skills that makes us one of the best English speakers in the world. 🤗💯👌
