    The part that receives the output signal as current signal from the ECU so that it can fine tune fuel to air ratio in any moment depending on the condition whether it's normal driving, start up, warming up, idling, cutoff, accelerating, full throttle driving or the lambda phase. Based on the working principle nozzle/baffle plate with a permanent magnet and an electromagnet that is activated as it receives current from ECU magnetic fluxes are being created so that they moves the baffle plate which closes fuel flow and increases or decreases the pressure on the differential valves. The part as such can very very rarely fail. It has also an adjustment screw hidden by a brass screw(allen screw 2mm). This screw increases or decreases the difference in pressures(0.4bar). Usually it comes to that either you have a leaky EHA(2 green O-rings in the distributor to be replaced), no current flowing to the EHA(if the diagnosis gives 9 pulses) or bad wiring harness. In the video you will see the specifications for the EHA how to measure it with a multimeter.

    What am I talking about?
    My topic is the KE-Jetronic injection system which I try to demystify as much as I can.
    For all of you to understand the system in brief - Developed in 1973 and being mounted into cars up to 1993 as it went in history. But why these to letters!?(KE) K(from German "kontinuierlich" meaning continuos, without interruption) the MECHANICAL injection system on which the fuel starts flowing from the fuel tank sucked by the FUEL PUMP and delivered to the FUEL DISTRIBUTOR which sends fuel to the INJECTORS while the majority of it flows through the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR through its return line back to the fuel tank again. The letter E(electronic) has to mark the electronic sensors (the developement starting from early eighties) which had to inform the ECU about the current state of the engine so that the ECU(Electronic Control Unit) then could create current signal in mAmp(miliampers) and send it to four crucial components for the system - the EHA(the electro-hydraulic actuator,a unit consisting of a magnet, an electromagnet and a baffle plate) which had to fine tune the engine in each of its phases, the ICV(the idle control valve), the unit which was predicted for the engines perfect idle, the X11(the diagnostic socket) where the duty cycle(the ideal mixture) was adjusted and the X11/4(the code reader) - the socket which from any codes were read if present using an OBD1 scanner.
    An extraordinary injection system which could be fully repaired in your own garage using a multimeter and a pressure gauge only for its fine tuning, together with some common tools.

    I wanted to post it here so this conversation does not get lost in the replies. I encourage every Mercedes lover to contribute to these kind of channels as much as you can. Little little becomes bigger so the channel owner can make more videos to help us save lots of money for parts and labor. I just met his channel 2 days ago, I don't know him and I am thousands of kilometers away. So, this is an honest comment.
    As per your instructions, thank you. I will follow them. Our issue here in US is we have 10% ethanol containing gas which, I believe, kills these systems if you don't drive your car daily. My car is in prefect shape and very low mileage and I don't use ethanol containing gas. It`s little more expensive but with cheap gas (or with Et-OH gas) you can damage your engine and eventually pay more in the long term. So, I recommend everyone to use good/premium fuel.
    I will be looking for more videos....I can even suggest topic(s) if you like.

    • @mercedeske
      @mercedeske  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you again. If you can always use that ethanol less containing gas because this one destroys the diaphragm and the o-rings inside the distributor. That's how it is. Todays fuel wasn't on the market 30 years ago, it's not bad for new cars but for classics especially for K(E)-Jetronic it's aggressive. What ever you would like to see I can try to explain and I will make that video if I know.

    Hi, Great vid again. In addition to sealing surface leaks the EHA housing itself tends to start leaking too sometimes. I cannot add a photo here in the comment, but it is a fairly common cause for EHA "going bad". :)

    Ton explication est superbe! Où as-tu appris tout ça? Les composants de l'EHA, on en trouve nulle part dans le manuel d'atelier de Mercedes-Benz ni même dans d'autres documentations.
    Bravo le King of ke!

      @mercedeske  3 місяці тому +1

      Bonjour et merci pour vos compliments ! J'ai étudié le système en profondeur. Il n'y a aucune explication dans les manuels car cette unité tombe rarement en panne et ce n'était pas le cas à l'époque où les voitures avec KE étaient encore en production. L'exemple le plus ancien du KE date de 1983 (ou 1982) et la fin du KE remonte à 1993. La seule chose qui pouvait tomber en panne était uniquement les fils. D'un autre côté, si l'EHA n'atteignait pas la valeur nominale, cela serait écrit dans le manuel - REMPLACEZ L'EHA ! Merci encore et meilleures salutations !

      I will try to find it. The cable that is connected to the eha is the cable that goes to the ecu. The ecu has to process all the data that it collected from the sensors and then to send them to the eha and icv. You have on my channel the specs for the eha. Contact 1 for the eha is on pin12 on the ecu, pin10 is contact for 2

    Hi, need to know the depth taken for the 2mm allen screw adjusment. Question 1- for the ideal 6.66mm depth as mentioned in the video is the measurment taken from the plastic body directly? Question 2- if the adjustment is too lean will this contribute to have no fuel supply to the fuel distributor. thank you.

    • @mercedeske
      @mercedeske  3 роки тому +3

      Hi. As for question 1 - exactly. As for question 2 - while making adjustments on the EHA you must do the pressure gauge test. You must read the primary pressure(at the upper chamber) and then the secondary(at the lower chamber). Substract one from another and you will see. And I repeat you must have your pressure gauge on. The distance of 6.8-6.6 is usually the 2mm screw turned counterclockwise to the max. That should give you the ideal pressure difference. If not then you will have to do the adjustments with the pressure gauge on, maybe many times.
      It sounds difficult but it's very simple.😃😃😃

    • @mercedeske
      @mercedeske  2 роки тому

      Hi. There is only 2 pin connection on the eha. Remove the connection for a bit, good enough to stick the multimeter and then put it back. As for the polarity, it changes every time you start the engine so you will have to try both combinations(1 positive, 2 negative or 1 negative, 2 positive).

    Hi there. Thank you for sharing all the knowledge. I am resurrecting the 90’ 560 sel I bought recently. It has running rich, engine gets flooded. I want to make sure I am checking signal to EHA correctly. I wrapped paper clips around both eha valve posts and have car harness connected to Eha. Voltmeter set to DC current flow. When I turn ignition on i have 0 amps. Is this right way for checking signal to the eha valve?

    • @mercedeske
      @mercedeske  Рік тому +2

      Hi. Concerning the connection to the EHA - you need any way to stick the multimeter to measure mA. At ignition ON you must get 20mA, if you reverse the polarity you will get -19.9(for example). But, if you get 0 this way or another then you have a bad ECU. Let me give you a link where I show how to connect a multimeter to read mA so you can try that way as well. Fingers crossed!

      I also did check the fuel pressure. My raw pressure is 5.4 bar and lower chamber is 5.9. Also the pressure drops to 3.9 bar right when I switch the ignition off. I think I need to replace the fuel pressure regulator. Would you agree? Thanks a lot for your support!

    • @mercedeske
      @mercedeske  3 роки тому +3

      This is for those cars that consumpt oil and for GDI as VW uses. KE-Jetronic operates the way that the injections constantly, nonstop, in front of the intake valve, spray fuel. As they spray fuel they cool the valves, lubricate them at the same time and wash them, so I don't believe that so much gunk can build on the valves. I personally wouldn't mount it. If your car doesn't burn oil(1l on 1000km is normal) than no need.

    Can this stop the fuel from coming out the top of the distributor (the lines that goes to the injectors?

    • @mercedeske
      @mercedeske  5 місяців тому

      Yes, in a cut-off phase. That's when you drive downhill and you depress the accelerator. Then the current on the EHA gets to 60mA and the EHA equalizes the pressures so that there is no pressure difference. This can not be done manually, only if you decide to mount the so called LPG system "STOP KE". Then the fuel pump works but there is no fuel flow towards the injectors.

    Hi...When adjusting the EHA clockwise with Allen key and thereby increasing the pressure, does the fuel mixture become richer or leaner?

    • @mercedeske

      It has nothing to do with the mixture, the pressure on the valves in the distributer is being increased and therefore the fuel flow decreased.

      @Paul Fester Yes, with the multimeter. Remove the plug just enough for the multimeter to touch the contacts. Watch the end of the video when when I say:"I will give you the specifications for the EHA". Watch carefully, you have 5 numbers. Once on idle while pressing throttle cold and once the engine is warm idling, you will see.

      Good day. I'm still confused about how the adjusting screw on EHA works. I watched a UA-cam video by Pierre Hedary on EHA and he states the following: turning the screw Clockwise increases the differential pressure & makes the engine run Richer. Turning the screw anticlockwise, decreases the differential pressure and makes engine run Leaner. In your answer you state that by adjusting the screw Clockwise, pressure is increased & fuel flow reduced. Won't this result in a leaner running engine? Another thing I want to confirm... Regardless of adjusting the EHA, the raw pressure will remain constant?? It is only the working pressure ( lower chamber) that is affected by adjusting the screw?
      My car currently raw pressure is 62 bar and working pressure is 56 bar. Which way do I turn the screw to get the raw & working pressures to 0.4 bar difference?

    • @mercedeske
      @mercedeske  3 роки тому +1

      @@paulfester9652 Exactly. The raw pressure is the one coming from the pump, as much as the pump is able to deliver that much you can get. As for the eha, Hedary is right. I wanted to say that as you increase pressure on something you reduce it's power. As for the screw turn it anticlockwise and measure the depth with the caliper. As you get 6.66mm you should get the 0.4bar difference. Good thing that you noticed what I said,thanks!👌👌👌

    Hello again! I don't know if you remember but I have chatted before and I have donated to your excellent channel. I am having problems with my 190e automatic in the cut off phase. It feels like the engine is surging and can't slow down smoothly. It only does it when foot completely off throttle and in gear, if car is shifted to neutral then it idles properly. I'm not sure if it's this, or if it is the idle control valve, or something else? It's been doing it for a while but it's intermittent, sometimes drives perfectly. Not sure where I should start diagnostic, please advise and many thanks!

      Hello, I remember you, of course. Check the tps if it recognizes idle position, the micro switch if it is good as well as the speed sensor. This is a 2 men job. You will have to disconnect the plug of your ECU and measure the voltage on your multimeter. The positive goes to the contact 6, the negative to the ground. As someone pushes the car(one meter required) you will have to get 0-9V with consumers. Just be careful - don't disconnect the plug of the ecu under ignition on, YOU WILL DAMAGE THE ECU!!!

      Find any pressure gauge and make an adaptation to make a fixation at the fuel distributor, you don't have to buy an expensive pressure gauge for the KE. everything you have to know about the thread is that it's 8x1.

      @mercedeske  3 роки тому

      Normally you don't have to adjust anything but in any case check the pressure difference, don't do it without the pressure gauge. You have to get the goal of 0.4bar difference. If the fuel pump is good then nothing has to be adjusted. If the raw pressure(coming from the pump) fell then you will have to do some adjustments. The EHA goes bad if it gets wet(if those black holes become wet from the gasoline) or if its 2 green o-rings are bad. If neither of this happens to you you don't have to buy another one. So, again, you will have to measure the raw pressure and the working one so that you can get the ideal pressure difference.
      Greetings and Happy Mercedesing

Works well for few days, regarding fuel consumption and everything, then the same happens again. The following was done to this car: engine rebuild, so it's 100% working well,sparks changed, the part in the video is cleaned using that multi purpose cleaner, air pipes checked for leaks, air adjustments screw was tampered till it is 1/3 d of clockwise turn more than it was about to "engine turns off on ideal", oxygen sensor is changed and tested, it changes as the throttle is changed, almost immediately, so it is working fine. @@mercedeske full details: eha measurements, pressure or voltage or current, I can't only perform the pressure measurements cause I don't have the gage for it. What makes the car fuel consumption goes that bad? 1- air filter "new" , 2- sparks "new". 3- fuel filter "5000 km old". 4- injectors "6 years old" (the car is used regularly 6km daily, weekends 30-50km). But they are not tested. 5- the multipurpose cleaner is used to clean the eha on weekly basis. 6- the choke has made some trouble messing with throttling, cleaned with fuel, worked for few weeks, but had to be cleaned weekly, before replacing it, i disconnected its electric connection, still had same results regarding fuel consumption and now recently replaced "used part cleaned with fuel, so far working fine". 7- duty cycle measures, after using the equation of calculations, around 50.5%-51% . I am a mathematician so I could easily apply the formulas after measuring the voltages. 8- oxygen lambda sensor measures 0.14 and a bit less if the car is at normal operating temp without pressing the throttle, once the throttle is pressed it immediately responses and the measures go up to almost one 0.97 and goes down immediately if the throttle is left.9- I just realized one thing now, automatic transmission E/S function, how can I be sure the air lines are connected? I know they were checked for sure, but I want to double check myself, 115km/20L or a bit less, seems to be an indication of car driven on S instead of E. Usually from my observations, on highway, E >165 km/20L while S ~130km/20L . So if I am right, this might be the issue. However, this doesn't explain the carbonated sparks when the car consumption starts to decline. One time before installing the "choke" we checked the sparks after a while of driving, they weren't carbonated, that made me change that part. So that is the full situation. For your review please
