'Bloom where you are planted' is an eye opening concept for me.
I could not work out why all my inspiration looks were not working for me eg. coastal grandma and why I was drawn more to other things eg. flannel shirts.
I have just listed the characteristics of my local area and that made it all make sense. I am in the uk so although coastal I am also rural countryside and the weather here does not fit the dream.
I need to adapt my style goals to where I am.
People talk about fitting your lifestyle, but not your location. Nobody really talks about this concept and it is SO important.
    Brilliant and inspiring!

I honestly didn't know that regular, non-celebrities were worried about repeating outfits in real life. This is incredibly sad. I think a core element of having personal style is rocking certain statement pieces - like that leather jacket you spend way too much money on but wear so much that it literally becomes like a second skin, and you wear it your whole adult life. Or a hat that becomes an extension of you. Or when a woman wears classic white button down shirts with chunky statement necklaces - or the woman who is known for wearing certain colors like red or turquoise, or rocker t-shirts. It's so sad to hear that girls and women are so neurotic and vapid that they dont' want to be seen in the same outfit more than once. I know this is a thing for celebrities who don't want to be photographed in the same outfit or even at an event with someone else wearing the same dress (the horror!). I remember when I was a young woman I was known for wearing a pink fabric backpack, and a certain purse that looked like a rolled up magazine, and I had a certain style that others tried to emulate but I wore the same pieces and silhouette all the time. Fast fashion and social media have really stollen so much from young people who aren't even conscious of how much they are manipulated and how far away they are from their own authentic selves.

The problem with loving fashion is loving many many things that do not work for me. I am rather tomboyish. I look and feel best when I have a masculine element in my outfits. My style words are classic, casual and edgy. I was a 90's grunge kid, and that has stuck with me. HOWEVER, I looooove pretty flowy frilly dresses. I would love to buy them all, but honestly I look ridiculous in them. I feel like I'm wearing a costume. It's just not me. I need long minimalistic lines and cuts and lots of black. So, in short, accept that you can love some things but you don't necessarily have to have them. Appreciate them from afar.

I found my style at 40 . after long years of trying different styles and trends , I came to realize that classic and timeless pieces are the best for me .

Taking care of one’s self really therapeutic. The more the person take care of his or her diet , exercise , and self improvement the less emotionally clinged to things and items .

Environment absolutely dictates your style. As a mom living in the country, I’d LOVE to live out my fantasy as a Renaissance fairy princess, but I can’t run around with my son wearing all that tulle 😂 Instead I found ways to incorporate my very feminine style, mainly with my jewelry and colors. Great video Caitlyn ❤

From 13 to 25 I always felt something was missing in my wardrobe! My clothes felt wrong and it bothered me even though fashion didn’t interest me until I was 19/20. By 25 it was a proper identity crisis 😂 I’m an Aussie who lives overseas and when I went home for the first time in 10 years I finally realised what it was! I didn’t need a unique personal style like I thought, I just missed very basic Aussie fashion. I felt so silly for not realising before 😭 It’s tricky with the climate but I’ve found ways to include it and I feel like myself again 🥰 Sometimes the missing piece is so obvious and close that you don’t notice it!!!

biggest tip for those trying to find their style while seeking fitness goals. buy clothes when you have reached your goal and have maintained for a while maybe 4-6 months or buy clothing a size in between. please trust me on this because last August to September I hit my target weight, and bought so many cute pieces. however, come October I couldn't fit into them again. it's hard to maintain the lowest weight for me. so it sucked I couldn't wear all my cute things. i am now as of today close to my target weight and those clothes are starting to fit and look right on me. but dang, it's hard to maintain it. you could say its a motivator to get back to that weight to enjoy the outfits, but i wish i would had done something in between so i could wear them no matter what.

Loved this video so much. I used to work in and socialize in major cities. I was lucky to be retired at 45 and move to the hills. For the past 3 years I have become more of a minimalist. My luxury items imo were just too much for my new and extremely casual lifestyle. A lot of this has to do with where we live, it’s just a more casual laid back vibe. We are still only 30 min to a large city so I do dress up and wear luxury about once a week. But yes, I agree where you live has a lot to do with your personal style

I do love the 3-words thing. My 3 style words are; feminine, elevated, comfortable. I LOVE wearing mini/midi dresses, silk tops and tailored trousers or A-line skirts AND I love wearing clean white trainers or mules (hate heels and jeans). And now when I look into my wardrobe, comfortable also should mean - not making me feel insecure or showing off areas I have to be conscious of (hello side cut dresses and the fear of eating in them)

I also feel like “blooming where you are planted” can also be interpreted to honouring our unique beauty. If you are familiar with Kibbe body typing, I am a flamboyant gamine. Skinny, boyish, large-eyed, pixie-esque facial features. I am not, nor will I ever be, a tall, willowy, ultra-feminine Charlize Theron. To try and force myself to fit into her style,-to wear the clothes she wears, try to look like her-would not be honouring my own natural, unique composition and style and personality. Obviously fashion doesn’t have any hard and fast rules-wear what you like. But I use thus example more to illustrate that we shouldn’t let our food get cold by looking at someone else’s plate. Own YOUR beauty. : )

I love the "three words" technique, it has helped me a lot. It's also helping me a lot in cleaning out items from my closet as well, things I bought that just aren't working and now I understand why.

Great video! My style is a lot like yours but I didn’t know how to define it. You make a great point about dressing for where you live. I follow several influencers in other areas and no wonder their recommendations don’t work out for me.

I kinda agree with the bloom where you´re planted and I definitly don´t feel comfortable, if I feel like I don´t fit in. However I still go to university and have to study in three different classes, where people are very differently styled and I either feel completly overdressed in one (even just for wearing make up) or completly underdressed in the other, so I had to learn to feel okay no matter how I look

I totally understand what you meant at the very end of the video.
I used to work in Midtown Manhattan and I felt a bit out of place dressing up, so I conformed to how people dress up around the area, until recent I realized I have updated my wardrobe when I moved to work in SoHo, it’s so strange how a couple blocks away do tend to upgrade my wardrobe to even feel more beautiful to do so.
I believe being around an area you live will truly help define your fashion style.

One thing that helped me a lot was searching and pinning clothes that already have and love, I created folders with each piece of those clothes. That not only helped me get ideas of how to styled and variations of looks with the same piece, but also helped me arrow down what I really want and need to buy, because you will notice that some pieces will start repeating itself on multiple other searches, like this same pair of pants with multiple tops you searched. Getting one of those pieces will open a new range of probabilities for your wardrobe.

Thanks for all the suggestions. It would have been great if you could have elaborated on number 4 just a little bit.
I do agree the fact that your style gets adjusted to your environment. But I wouldn’t really say this should let you stop yourself from wearing something fancy anywhere if you really wanted to, even if no one else does.

Great points, Caitlyn. Watching those countless unboxings, it’s like vu du 😳🤪😝😂 , put you in trance and you don’t even know, what happened, why you bought it 😱 i did started watching more style videos, and omg it clicked that I want classic, timeless and edgy. Phoebe Philo new brand like awaken me. I am tired of all cutesy, in the last month sold so much Chanel, and got a few pieces from old Celine PP. got new PP sunglasses. I still kept LBD’s and dress caftans, cause I agree, there is big difference where you live. I live in SF and it’s resort living. So I agree , it’s just would look crazy to dress like NY, Milan, Paris, or even French Riviera . Have a blessed day🙏❤️

I only pin pinterest Fotos that i think i can recreate wirh my own clothes. Not copy, sometimes it is the colours, sometimes i have a very simmilar piece so i can actually try to make the same outfit. I love that because you see outfits or colours that i might never have thought of putting together and i do not have to bye New clothes all the time.
