As far as I’m concerned, this company will never get one dime of my money ever. I’ve worked for many companies and I will tell you the one thing I have learned is that no decision is ever made by just one person without others knowing about it. This was a well orchestrated campaign, and they misjudged the temperature of the society. We have so much going on with kids right now and they are so over sexualized in our society that I believe they thought they could get away with this. It’s absolutely disgusting. What really disturbs me is somebody like Kim Kardashian reps for a company like this. 🤷🏼‍♀️ It should bother her.

I unfollowed Kim and the entire family when I saw she was wearing this brand again. I realize I’m one of however many millions of followers they have and clearly it doesn’t matter, but if millions of her followers did the same thing I bet it would get her attention real quick. What else can any of us do other than not give anyone who wears this brand another dime ever?

People have been cancelled for way less, and to me, this wasn't a "mistake". They'd have so many people who would've signed off on that campaign before it hit the public. I don't think they should've gotten away with it with just a simple apology.

The fact that the creative director was not fired immediately says a lot.
Child abw#$% is at totally different level of Evil in comparison to Child labor. Insinuating, expressing art on child abu$3 should be crime
    and period.
And the celebrities know well what they are supporting, all in the name of fame and money.

What Balenciaga showed in that campaign exists in real life. That was not just imagination (and that would be bad enough). The instagram "art" accounts of the people involved are even worse, showing mutilation and SA of kids and babies - Balenciaga actually officially follows those accounts (or at least they did when the campaign was out). For me, this is something they can only come back from if they change the whole artistic and executive staff, then change the aesthetic back to Balenciaga's roots and basically start as a new brand. And yeah, maybe not follow Cedocillic "art" accounts.
When I see a Demna Balenciaga piece out in the wild I just feel sick 🤢
I have a Balenciaga City bag, which was designed wayyyy before demna took over, it has nothing to do with the balenciaga of today. But I still don't want to wear it in public, even if I love it to bits. I'll wear it again when demna and co. are gone - until then I don't want to model for them 🙅‍♀
Also, as a swiftie, I am very disappointed. I don't see any good reason to wear balenciaga, even if it is not obviously branded. It really doesn't make sense?

I knew this was gonna happen… Balenciaga being uncancelled. I laughed when influencers burned or sold their Balenciaga bags to follow suit with celebrities’ feigned disgust because y’know… it’s the latest woke trend, while knowing it’s just a matter of time for the scandal to simmer down. Brands are pretty resilient and fashion is fickle AF. I mean, the industry and the consumer culture that supports it has a memory of a goldfish.

My opinion hasn't changed about Balenciaga since the child's scandal! They can do all the celebs campaigns they want, it won't change what they did. Their director is still there, it just shows how little they cared about that scandal. That campaign wasn't a mistake, it was a decision made by different teams and approved with everyone from the creative director, to finance team to marketing team, etc. Let's just admit celebs care only about money and fame and stay relevant. They don't really care about their fans, unless it could affect their finances.

  • @LVCoffeeLVer
    @LVCoffeeLVer 5 місяців тому +23

I feel like they KNEW what they were doing and the fact they didn’t fire the creative director says a lot. I def won’t sell the bags I have but I wouldn’t buy anything new. I don’t blame my bags lol.
I mean it’s all weird. How about Kanye trashed them after the scandal now he’s seen shopping there. Brands and celebrities get away with absolutely everything.
I wouldn’t have bought into all the stuff said about them if it wasn’t for the hidden papers about pedo stuff. That was placed there, and for what reason?
I don’t think swift wore it for money etc, I think she has a person who dresses her. I’m not a Taylor lover either but I don’t think anyone who wears it supports it etc…like myself. I’ll wear mine but def won’t buy more.

To me this was not a mistake. They knew exactly what they were doing. They are a well known brand and like you said they have been around for 100 years. It was so disgusting and disturbing to me. I thankfully never owned anything from them and I will NEVER own anything after what they did. I am shocked to see that Taylor Swift was wearing there stuff honestly. Also I don’t believe this was a mistake. Celebrities know exact what they’re doing especially someone like Taylor who knows all eyes are on her. Do I understand her motive…NO, but there is something we’re not seeing..

My thoughts with your Apple analogy: there is no reason to stop using a product that you already own, but personally, I would make an effort to take your dollars elsewhere if you're in the market for a new device. Its really not that hard to switch, people make a huge deal about it, but i switched over to google operating systems just because Apple is too damn expensive. Yes it took me a couple weeks of getting used to, but now its not a big deal. Its really only a big deal to snobby Apple users 🤣

In regards to the columbine T shirt - I can totally see how someone who found that quote really inspiring (considering that student was staring down the barrel of a gun when she said it, knowing it was going to make the shooter angry), to basically remind themselves to be courageous in your beliefs in the face of tragedy. But!!! I can’t see how that person wouldn’t also want some of that money to be put towards the victim’s family or something like that. For a company to be gaining 600 dollars for what was likely an average sweatshirt, knowing how the quality of item has gone down recently, using the words of a poor girl who was shot down in a place she should have been safe, is sick. I guess I’m saying I see both sides lol. Not with balenciaga though, they can choke and so can all the celebrities who are supporting them. I went down the rabbit hole in 2020 and it truly disturbed me to see just how much of the events in hollwood can be tied back to that horrible stuff. Good job Caitlyn, loving the long form content!!

Was never a fan to begin with, but I would never buy a thing under this brand after that fiasco. I've lost respect for those who have continued to buy from them as well. When I see people in Balenciaga my authentic reaction is cringe. I'm glad you brought up the heritage of the brand, Sad what it became. Nordstrom sale is full of deeply discounted Balenciaga and the boutique in the Forum Shops at Caesers Palace is almost always empty when I walk by. Also interesting Nicole Kidman is tied as the rumors of alleged P ring of her Father drove him to flee Australia....Allegedly and then he was unalive 3 weeks later.

It’s all emperor’s new clothes. The sheer volume of ugly clothing on deep discount this sales season, goes to show regular people have taste. They won’t buy clothing which make them fell bad about themselves. People turn a lack of taste into a perception of taste, by gaslighting and feeding on to human fear of not being in the ‘in’ crowd.
Taylor has been photographed in cheap fast fashion in the UK to appeal down to earth. But so much of what we are shown by celebs has so much contrived strategy behind it, that no wonder we are all so tired. As long as people and children are not exploited wear what you can afford and that makes you feel your best self.

The Brand can survive because it's really old with good roots, but the whole team would need to be gutted and everything would need to start from scratch basically for me to want to buy anything from them. Hello Caitlin! I love your deep thoughtful content. I personally won't buy from brands that market improper things. My goodness, I love Coach, but their association with lil nas x is just unacceptable for me. It is very disrespectful to believers in the most high God. Imagine if they were associated with an artist that mocked muslims and Allah? Hollyweird chooses time and time again to mock and ridicule Jesus. They don't dare to mock and ridicule Allah or muslims. For some reason Christians take it, and partake of these things even. In terms of balenciaga, I can't support with my money what they market or the people they market to. I know we can't fix every problem in the world, but we can do a little bit. I don't think we necessarily need to throw out what we already have, especially when most people don't even recognize these brands anyway. Just my 2 cents. Be blessed darling.

    uhhhh a interesting topic.
I think the main point is people not care, in a world where in fact the people we constantly see on screens and "admire", that admiration comes from a sense of "success" related with their money, the morals are definitely not on our list as consumers, i mean we can know our idols are scum, be scum around women, classist, racist, dumb, be part of cults, talk against science, and so much other stuff, so we not really care about morals, specially in something as fashion, where they make products and work around our consumerism tendencies in our lovely capitalist society, we indeed know our cheap clothes are made by kids and women in so poor conditions that in fact many of them have died in awful ways, but we still continue buying the brands we know that promote and use that systems, so if we use clothes that are made based in a sort of slavery, we truly have the confidence people will care for a company that made, in the best of the situations, a very poor tasted product campaign? When brands like Dolce and Gabbana, Alexanderwang, Shein, Zara, and many others still produce and make stuff, with things that indeed we can be for sure were done with malice and affected people?
The problem is not the brands, but that we as a consumers dont really care, we just care a few days because we love drama, but after a few days that become old news, and continue with the next thing. Is just another symptom of our society and system, of how we consume, and how our moral compass as a group works.

Companies rarely stand for anything besides taking your money. People are going to buy or endorse whatever they want.
Balenciaga was interesting because they built a world or vibe around their fashion shows. Def not for everyone but I enjoyed it. Tho I have not really kept up with their shenanigans. I’ve moved on to other designers who can supply that without the edginess that Balenciaga always relied on.

Perhaps mass slaughter, and killing children en masse, which is happening right now in many places of this world would quality better to be judged and boycotted...just thinking out loud and ....this is not a "judgement" just an observation and food for thought.

  • @monimarz

    Balenciaga who?
We could argue morality, but realistically it is societal construct. So what you perceive as 'crossing a moral boundary' is something personal and independent. If you do not like the content you are free to avoid it. I believe children being used in any form of media advertisements need the consent of their parents, interesting how that does not seem to be a discussion, ever.
Balenciaga is only relevant if people choose to consume what they construct.
There are many fashion houses that have been wrapped up in controversies. Balenciaga pushes the envelop because that is what art does, not just fashion. People now look, dig, mine, for nuggets of controversy to point fingers and push their moral high ground onto society. Creating an offense and then expecting everyone to jump on the bandwagon is equally problematic.
Hugo Boss created Nazi uniforms, Dior was accused of appropriation and racism, John Galliano spewed anti-sematic comments, Karl Lagerfeld fat shamed, etc, etc, etc.
If we support Hollywood, the cesspool of pedophile, who are we to judge Balenciaga? You cannot watch film and tv and financially fill the pockets of nutters while pointing the finger in another direction. Balenciaga who? They only exist if you let them.

the celebs are happy to hold hands and party with the balenciaga brand so they can programme their audiences with the "forgiveness" they too will want when they are embroiled in scandal later.
also, i noted the outrage in western media alone, the kpop spaces n fanbases i follow completely ignored the scandal. idols were wearing balenciaga a lot during the scandal which i found confusing and figured the brand is doing business as usual or pivoting to a different market .
here in southern africa, all the balaenciaga western audiences threw out turned up in our thrift stores and people were happy to find and purchase it coz well they were still a designer brand that was posh to put on (am guessing oblivious to the scandal)

Comes down to power, money and influence. Balenciaga's campaign was evil, but it was against children don't have a voice to keep the screams alive in the echo chamber. Dolce & Gabbana insulted the Chinese who can hold a grudge forever. The Chinese also have the power to continue cancelling D&G through boycotts and attacking high profile figures who dare associate themselves with the brand.

I've been side eyeing since they started charging thousands of dollars for beat up on purpose shoes. It's "edgy art" or trolling for people with too much money, but the don't respect the average person and as a very average person I won't respect a brand that doesn't respect normal income people. The p3d0 stuff is just a last straw that broke the camel's back.

You are obviously not Balenciaga’s target and still you are talking about it and getting lots of views, Balenciaga is obviously a extremely profitable fashion house and all the people who are saying in the comments they will never give Balenciaga their money, I am. Utopia if they ever got a Balenciaga number or if they even invest in this type of fashion genre, so please, is very easy to say you are boycotting something most people never purchased to begin with. The fashion world and fashion are equally creepy and problematic, why is everyone acting so surprised? Please.

this is where my thoughts fell also. the documents were ill placed in the Adidas shoot for sure, but the whole collection was metal/punk and not BDSM. the models in the mud show walked out with fake eyebrow and lip rings and half the tees were metal logo inspired - anyone who has at least a remote interest and doesn't just buy into TikTok hype knows this. but time moves on and the people who know have moved on haha

That was a definitely an odd campaign with the children… but Lotta Volkova was not involved in that particular campaign because she stopped working for Balenciaga in 2017, so people’s videos on yt trying to connect her to that campaign make no sense! People need to watch out before canceling someone who may be innocent…

I love Balenciaga. I love the old Balenciaga from the 1960's. I really enjoy the current iteration of Balenciaga if I disconnect my brain from their obscenely high prices and also their straight up evil nature, but I also like edgy clothes. I don't want to support them but I have some replica shoes because I love the designs and I just can't afford $1500 sneakers.

I feel like they wanted to target a very specific audience with that campaign, campaigns with that much $ riding on (and I'm assuming it must have cost them a pretty penny) it must have had an intention. I think by them going for Hollyweird kind of justifies it ? They want the outcasts or the (sickos) including the celebrities.

I think the celebrities, by and large, just don’t care. They have their cliques and social groups too, and I’m sure they don’t want to start getting quietly left out of other events. Taylor Swift though… WTH. And Pink. Both are icons of the empowerment of women and girls. And yet here we are. I hope some journo with a spine will ask them about their choices, and let them say for themselves whether there was any larger meaning behind their sartorial choices for those moments.

I don't support or even like the current fashion of B. However, i do own 3 B pieces that predate Denma and this scandal. I will still use those pieces, but not for a while, until this settles more, like the other controversies. I mean, let's not forget Chanel and her alignment during WWII. For survival or otherwise, that is something ppl don't know or think about bc they love the products so much, or love the other aspects that the brand reflects or represents.
This B shitshow is just that, but I can see that it will blow over and for the most part, new followers/supporters and the younger generations will be influenced by the celebs that promote the brand. Some won't care or even know about this recent controversy.
It's like Michael Jackson. I still love his music, I grew up with it, but should I not like it? I grew up with the Bill Cosby Show too, should I not have fond memories?
It's not always so cut 'n dry I suppose.
Those who don't follow fashion or luxury much dont even know about the controversies that have occurred. Dolce is loved again, Gucci's scandal was short-lived, and im sure there are multiple others we probably don't even know about! Good discussion Caitlin x😊

Yes, the world will still move. However, I’m very conflicted about the notion of “not judging others”. If we don’t, we literally will not have a society. Societies exist to impose structure and order, including social norms and rules.
“Don’t judge anyone” might sound appealing at first, but it can also swing too far in either direction. Can’t we just be reasoned people? Can’t we, as humans, just draw a strong bright line indicating that suggestions of sex + kids is a NO? Why is that so difficult?

I feel really conflicted on this issue, mostly because I know it absolutely could have been an isolated problem within a section of the company, or it could be the self-report of a bigger problem. As an Atheist who considers themselves an hobbyist/armchair anthropologist (the study of human cultures), I feel like we do need to take into consideration how offensive the embedded demon iconography can be to people of Muslim (1.9 billion followers), Jewish (15.7 million followers) and Christian (2.38 billion followers) faiths, along with the hybrid factions such as Voodoo. Because it wasn't just an ad campaign with children surrounded by s*x toys and bondage gear, but also imagery referencing the sacrificing of innocence to evil entities. It's this "mega combo" of imagery combined together that could literally just be some art director trying to be edgy, but they still should not have been surprised at how aggressive of a push-back they received.
Again, as someone who believes in nothing, I understand we can all accidently get caught up and stuck in our own social bubbles; if you are an atheist surrounded by other atheists, it's very easy to not be offended by demon imagery. It's "edgy" and "cool" and "goth" and "alternative". But the reason why it is all those "cool" controversial things is because, it's... Well... Offenive to almost half the population of planet Earth. People often think the Big Three religions are wholly their own, but they are all rooted in the same stories. Each group has their own official scripture and each differs very notably, but at their root they are similar enough that all three would have always been offended by what Balenciaga did.
Since that ad campaign, I personally have really backed off on them. I don't feel comfortable enough buying anything from Balenciaga; because I personally feel like either they hired a small faction of people who are 1) Are completely tone-deaf for mass-marketing appeal and 2) Imply they have very strange, even disturbing, morals about how to do photo shoots with children... Or, worse off, the ad campaign is representative of what is considered "socially acceptable" within the company's upper tiers.
In several years, I would be willing to re-investigate/look into the brand again, but I need to see a "record" of several seasons of no similar imagery, visual references or "signaling" in the child torture / weird s*x themes direction. The brand needs to really ask itself why this was approved of by so many different pairs of eyes within the company and why it didn't get stopped way, way earlier in the initial staging/drafting process.

I don't think Balenciaga should've been cancelled for this. The insinuation that it was bdsm on kids,is a stretch. I dont think kids should be modelling or doing any sort of work, its a slippery slope that exposes them to exploitation from companies and even their parents. Balenciaga's fashion is very much representative of the times we live in,it represents absent minded people who want to be cool for wearing absolute trash, more power to them(i guess) for putting a price on everyday non fashion items.
