Fun side note, these were basically packages and letters that piled up from when I was away on the Heritage trip with my mom for a month. I made Ken pick them up for me. Don't worry I paid him. Ken's great.
Hey Barb great video I loved it!! Quick note - on the coat of arms that is not the Jordanian flag but the flag of the Arab Revolt against the ottomans which started in Aqaba, which hoists the flag on one of the tallest flag poles in the world. The arab revolt flag consists of the pan arab colors like you said. Really awesome though! Been subscribed since the Australia episode and I watch all of your episodes!
Hey Barby, great video. I have a small fact to add to the Coat of arms of Jordan. Those two flags are not Jordanian flags, they are Arab Revolt flags. Using pan-Arabic colors, they look similar to many Arab nations flags but in fact, no country has that flag for its own. The flag was used by Arabs during their revolt against the Ottoman Empire during WW1. In Aqaba, Jordan you can see a very big version of this flag.
it could be must or may depending on the speaker. it translates directly: मेरा नाम बारबी है आपने पहले उस नाम के बारे में सुना होगा or: mera naam baarabee hai. aapane pahale us naam ke baare mein suna hoga To me it is probably more correct to say "Must"
When you mentioned Turkmenistan, I felt so intoxicated. I never went there, but I do know someone, who's great grandmother (I think) is from there. Also, HAVE YOU SEEN PICTURES OF THEIR CAPITAL CITY ASGHABAT?! SO WHITE, BEAUTIFUL DESIGNS AND you'll figure out the rest..
Make something from the flags you receive, like a quilt, or upcycled backpack/messenger bag. Love your episodes and the fact a young man takes so much interest and excitement from the world around. Thanks for sharing your research, and enthusiasm with us all.
Barby, how come every one of these episodes you say how you wish you could have talked about this and that? If you wanted to talk about it then why didn't you? This is your show, you write the script, why not just include it lol. Really don't think anyone would mind if it meant some episodes would be longer, in fact, im pretty sure most people would be glad.
I used to think like this when UA-camrs say "that's all the time we have" like wtf you mean? you can go for ever! but you kind of had to realize that while it may look like more people would be good watching a 20-minute video in some obscure country (in perspective of viewers), bussiness wise its really not. having a 20 minute video on all countries would be killing your channel, youd retain the core fanbase but others will leave. the best way to make videos is my having parts so he can talk about things he didnt include in "part 2" (which is like the fain mail) but then you'd have a problem of uploading too much/ too little its about balance
Hello, Ben K. Around May 2016, just before the Cuba episode, Barbie signed up with Studio71, to improve post-production. That way Geography Now videos would come more frequently... but video length had to be regulated. Since Barbie had to cut down video length, he started the Flag Friday videos, removing the flag section that were included in the main videos up to that point. ua-cam.com/video/7nW65J3RTak/v-deo.html
Actually, the bars on mini flags on the coat of arms don't follow the same order as the actual flag. Also that overall look for the coat of arms has been previously used by the Ottomans and Egypt under the monarchy, definitely hints at the ties to the ottoman empire.
Wooh my postcard was featured! Thanks Barbz, the coupon book is for a bunch of attractions in SF that are pretty expensive, so have a great time and if you come up here, stop by Berkeley!
Just represented Poland in Model UN, my first time. I was part of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (Somehow Sweden ended up owning the dark side of the moon) and it was a blast! Love Poland and need that book!
Hey Barby, I just watched this episode and thought how awesome it would be if you included another address (or several) in your return package, so that the one who wins your return address contest can send another person on the other side of the globe another package and so on. Like the world's coolest chain letter! (Btw I love geography now and just started studying geography at the Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. Thank you for the inspiration!)
6:54 Translation of that Hindi Dialogue: "My name is Barby, you must have definitely heard my name". It's from a popular Bollywood movie called "Dil Dhulhanya Leh Jayenge". (Extra info: The male protagonist says that line to his love interest and his name is 'Rahul' in the movie, so he mentions the same dialogue but naturally, says "Mera naam 'Rahul' hai" instead of 'Barby' (obviously 😂))
That Hindi quote meant "My name is Barby. You must have heard the name". It's a famous quote from the movie "Dil toh Pagal Hai" (The heart is crazy) which featured Shah Rukh Khan
*squeeeee* I'm so glad you liked the boomerang, I got them from an Op Shop (thrift shop) after Dylan said he wanted to buy and send you one (I'm his housemate). The didgeridoo was a bonus find from the same Op Shop.
'Mera naam Barbie hai, mera naam suna hi hoga' == My name is barbie, you must have heard it (by now/ must be aware about my name) It is a badass Bolywood movie dialogue with a lot of sass and sarcasm. And Kashmir is not disputed. It is absolutely Indian. It has been occupied by China and Pakistan, but is Indian land. No dispute. Fin.
heyhey just wanted to know if you have a website i don't see one in descriptions, you could put all the small flags that you have reveived yet so we could send you those who are missing ^^ i mean, i really want to watch your videos all over again, but once you have made it halfway, so i could take notes on details like these and the beautiful drawing of the dog that you reveived from Québec and it would help to reference things like these somewhere ^^ it's something i really enjoy seeing in these videos :P
I am thinking about going to this country, and making a TV show called It's Always Sunny in Amman, because this place seems like a place where it could occur.
It's really cold, rainy and cloudy in the winter, usually starts in October or November and ends in March. It usually also snows a few times, usually in December or January
If this channel was in my native language Norwegian, A LOT of countries would come soon: Kambodsja, Kamerun, Kapp Verde, Kasakhstan, Kenya, Kina, Kirgisistan, Kiribati, Komorene, Kongo, Krotatia, Kuwait and Kypros. That's because the Norwegian language discourages the use of the letter "C", especially as the first letter of the word. If the "C" is pronounced as a "K" it should be written as a "K". The same rule applies to "Ch" followed by a wowel, the Ch is replaced by "K", because "K" followed by a wovel is pronounced as "Ch" in Norwegian. Hence, "China" is spelled "Kina". The two exceptions to this rule are Canada and Catalonia, both which is written with a "C" in Norwegian. However, derivative words such as "Kanadisk Engelsk" (Canadian English) or " Katalansk" (Catalan language) are written with a "K".
The arabic text in the coat of arms, you got it backwards with the arrows and translation(abdulla the first would be on the left side of the screen! from a concerned arab viewer
Fun side note, these were basically packages and letters that piled up from when I was away on the Heritage trip with my mom for a month. I made Ken pick them up for me. Don't worry I paid him. Ken's great.
Austin Channel nope.

yeah but why is there a time limit? why not just make them as long as they need to be

Hey Barby,
I just watched this episode and thought how awesome it would be if you included another address (or several) in your return package, so that the one who wins your return address contest can send another person on the other side of the globe another package and so on. 4:47 DUUUUUDe this comic is crazy popular round here in brazil
Monica's gang stands for Brazil just like DC (or Marvel, idk) stands for US
Not just there. It's sold here in Portugal as well, loved them when I was a kid!
It sold in Indonesia too. I remember read this comic too when child.
Oof. I've had a few boomerangs in my day. They're the hardest things to get rid of. No matter how hard I throw 'em, they keep coming back.
6:54 Translation of that Hindi Dialogue: "My name is Barby, you must have definitely heard my name".

That Monica's Gang comic hit me in the nostalgia pretty hard :'D
Thank you Barbs for the nice comments about my country :) :D
Yes, Yes, Namibia is a little interesting, I am from Germany and my music Teacher is from Namibia, they seem to speak this imperial German
Hi,you're my fav UA-camr.
For some reason when he mentioned Hoffman who was from Berlin, I though of David Hasselhoff and the Berlin Wall.
That Hindi quote meant "My name is Barby. You must have heard the name". It's a famous quote from the movie "Dil toh Pagal Hai" (The heart is crazy) which featured Shah Rukh Khan
1:45 those are not Jordanian flags they are the Arab Revolution lag

You switched the translation of the left and right writings on the code of arms lol!
'Mera naam Barbie hai, mera naam suna hi hoga' == My name is barbie, you must have heard it (by now/ must be aware about my name)

1:45 These are Not the Jordan Flag WTF
These are the Arabic Revolt Colours

prophetchannel So then countries like Canada, Catalonia, Colombia, Costa rica and Cuba all start with the letter C in norwegian then?
1:44 The two flags are NOT the Jordanian flags. They are the "Flags of the Arab Revolt"
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_the_Arab_Revolt
I gotta say that the star is rather small which doesn't reflect the correct version of the flag.
Im here from super mega keep up the work
Can you do a geography now video of mexico? I know you did geography go for it but you did both for japan so can you also do iy for mexico?
Love the cuban flag
In the coat of arms the flag is actually the Great Arab Revolt flag not the Jordanian
Yes
Make Jordan part 2
It just occurred to me. Do you plan to make a video about the Vatican?
Why are the stripes in a different order on the coat of arms?
The arabic text in the coat of arms, you got it backwards with the arrows and translation(abdulla the first would be on the left side of the screen! from a concerned arab viewer
Big ups Thomas my fellow South African👌
+Jestallion Nellatambi
I was about to say that!
AHH FELLOW AUSSIE GUY SENT YOU SHAPES AND TWISTIES awesome savoury Aussie snacks :D
wait, why the flags in the coat of arms have the bands in a diferent order from the actual flag ????
I am Jordanian myself and the star is representing the 7 ayat in the first sorah in Quran al-fateha
Lebanese People we need to see you in the next fanfriday
yuforget Mozambique
You didn’t explain the flag in the album
South African was dutch/German/French/English
@2:13 it actually says "Hussein Bin Talal Bin Abdullah"
1:45 Barbs you made a mistake. those are not Jordanian flags. those are the flags used by the Hashmeite-led Arab Revolt.
Jordan is the paradise where sneakers Jordan's are made.
Am I the only who noticed that the winner at the end never mentioned in the vid
What does the color mean ??? Is the red for "people those who died for freedome"???
