BRAND OVERVIEW
Gazian & Girling was founded in 2006 by Tony Gaziano & Dean Girling. Tony and Dean worked for a variety of bespoke shoemakers, designers and Northampton manufacturers before joining together to launch their own line. Their aim was to update the otherwise classic English aesthetic and to bring an unprecedented level of handwork to their Benchmade shoes. The whole key was to try to narrow the gap between bespoke and RTW. No other shoe on the market tries to incorporate so many levels of bespoke craftsmanship and finishing into their ready-to-wear offering.
SHOE INTRODUCTION
A captoe oxford, especially a black captoe oxford, is the most versatile and elegant shoe a man can own. It’s a simple design, lack of brouging, and closed oxford lacing, combine to create the silhouette that unparalleled beauty. This shoe is not subject to the whims of fashion; it will be in style forever. It can be easily worn with a suit, tuxedo, or jeans, and is never inappropriate.
DESIGN
Immediately, Tony Gaziano’s shoe designing brilliance is instantly recognizable in this shoe. Every aspect of design - proportion, lines, shape - has been perfectly balanced. Combined with the construction and quality of materials, which we will talk about later in greater detail, you can’t help but desire these shoes.
MATERIAL
G&G's desire to bridge the gap between traditional ready-to-wear and bespoke is also seen in the choice of materials used to make their shoes. Baker’s oak-bark tanned leather outsoles and heels are used, and the heels are built up layer by layer and then shaped to produce a beautiful narrowing. Again, the same materials used in their bespoke shoes.

AVAILABLE FINISHES
G&G also offers an extensive made to order program. you can choose from 7 last shapes, over 120 different styles of shoe, 100 different leather choices, this makes for thousands of combinations of shoes that you can customize to your own personal taste.
AVAILABLE SIZES AND FIT
The Gaziano and Girling Oxfords are available stock from a UK Size 5 to UK Size 13 and in an E width. UK sizes are a half-size smaller than the equivalent US shoe size. So, if you are a 9.5 in an American shoe, such as Allen Edmonds, you would want to purchase a UK 9.0. The same is true for widths. A UK E width is equivalent to a standard US D. However, the shoe can be ordered in a narrow D width or wide F width at no extra charge.

Great video, Kirby, and beautifully scripted. I met Dean and Tony for the first time last week - lovely, down to earth guys. One thing you forgot to mention - these shoes do not need breaking in. They are as close to perfection in comfort from a RTW as I’ve worn (which backs up what you say in the video). And to those with budgetary qualms - it’s worth stretching to buy a pair of G & G’s even if one every few years only, because you’ll have a work of art as well as a functional item which will give you pleasure every time you hold or wear it. My G & G’s get more comments than any other shoes I wear.

I am not a fan of G&G at all. The quality is good, I agree but the look of them are dull and just like any other shoes.
Now, Yohei Fukuda are something very different. Yohei shoes make G&G shoes look like a Walmart Shoe.

Kirby, I would like you to check out Vass shoes. Their shoes, and Meermin's Linea Maestro line, are the only ones I know of that are both mass-produced ready-to-wear products while also being handwelted.

This is a great idea for a series Kirby. I would personally like to seem a review of a Carmina Balmoral boot, Chelsea, or Jodhpur with a rain last or chiseled toe. I've been meaning to buy a pair of Carminas but cant find a single video review of their boots. Thanks

Kirby, thank you for this fascinating series on Black Cap Toe Oxford shoes. It’s incredibly informative and has piqued my interest into possibly investing in a higher quality shoe. I know this question is difficult, complicated and extremely personal but if you had to choose between purchasing a Gaziano & Girling oxford or an Edward Green Chelsea, which one would you chose.
How about an outfit description? In particular, I’m wondering the color and specs of your suit (material, make, weight, etc.).
How about reviewing something more budget friendly next? Something from the Loake 1880-range perhaps? I find the Loake Churchill to be an interesting take on the classic oxford shoe.
I visited the website of Gaziano & Girling. Beautiful shoes but not on my budget. For now I am happy with my blacks and browns from Giorgio 1958 and Evita's from Spain. Thanks to your video's I can keep them shiny and well maintained with Saphir Medaille d'Or. My next pair might be Meermin from Mallorca.

Hi Kirby, what about reviewing some italian brands such as Fratelli Borgioli or Harris? I'm very fond of them, they make a very high quality ready to wear at a very reasonable price. Also could be interesting reviewing the Spanish brands of the Almansa and Mallorca regions, such as Meermin, Berwick 1707 etc, or even portuguese like Carlos Santos. Thank you for the good work!

Black Cap toe oxford worn with jeans? That may be the first time I ever heard you say something I disagree with.
Not every one can make it work. It's ok.
First, there are many high quality designer jeans that dress up perfectly with shoes.
Second, and often over looked... a Man has to recognize when his body plan makes sense for a given combination of clothing. Larger Men necessarily have to accept different proportions and cuts for all their clothing and shoes as compared to more svelte Men...this is going to modify what looks best on a Man across this range of sizes and shapes it's just physics.
Third, Confidence....the inner light that people just know when they see it goes a huge way toward allowing an outfit or ensemble that is being sported as a dandy experiment to make that particular combination work.
Forth, context... as ever the social situations in which you find yourself define another dimension of modulation for what combinations make sense.
Consider this 4 dimensional landscape as a massive combination of possibilities for Men to express *their* unique style across the landscape and though you may not be able to deftly span your optimal portions of the landscape ...it doesn't mean that others are not more adept at doing so, revel in their success and learn how to apply it to make yours.
It can work with dressier jeans if you experiment with casual shoelaces
Not my personal taste, but with a nice, dark pair of jeans, it could certainly be pulled off at night.

George L I was thinking about this while reviewing the script for be next G&G review. They were, and still are, the first new shoe factory to open in 100 years. Fosters is the second, and indeed as you pointed out, most recent. But it shouldn’t diminish the risks Tony and Dean were taking or how groundbreaking it was at the time.

Why can't Allen Edmonds build last like these? These are so beautiful!
The difference isn't really as much of the last design as it is how the shoe is manufactured. Take a look at our Gaziano Factory Tour video. You'll see that Gaziano takes additional steps to pull the upper around the last in order to give it the sculptured definition. A significant amount of additional work goes into creating a shoe on this level, which is why they are 3-5 times more expensive. For the price, AE does pretty good work (for the price).
Kirby, I think all of us in the comments would REALLY be interested to hear you criticize some shoes. Am I not the only one who wants to hear a rant?

I just went to this site and designed a pair of shoes, they ended up costing $1700 shortly thereafter my computer crashed I assume the site was simply to rich for my simple computers blood... lol
I am not a fan of Tom Ford in general but I must say TF Black Gianni cap toe is more elegant and better looking than this G&G one.
