You bring back so many memories for me. Working with my uncle picking up new/used equipment. Hard work is all I know. It’s too bad so many people lost this work ethic. Nice score with that low boy. Your fleet is going to be great! Don’t depend on nobody but yourself. Keep those wheels turnin!
Other than replacing a few deck boards and welding the support legs for the neck, I really didn't have to do too much to it. I fixed a few lights. But, it's due a rewiring again.
I really enjoy your videos. You are a man that knows how to hustle and get equipment that others might not consider worth keeping or using anymore. Great Western Star too.
What a great looking W. Star. Reminds me of the Pride taken at W. Star before the Crouts bought it. Now they are just another modern headache built by assembly line workers. Great video
That's one nice sounding rig and you definitely know how to drive a stick ( to use terms from where you are from). Something needs a little graphite grease maybe. !!
Witco is a pretty durable trailer, when you get the wet line put on the truck you should get the trailer plumbed for it and do away with the pony motor. They're a pain to keep running and constantly need something.
Friend of mine has one they are ok, just never overload it or side load it. The necks are kinda weird little blocks and pins. Have to carry a good board for ram so I doesn't sink in mud. When they first came out you could buy a new one, if I remember for about 18000. Ritchie sold a lot of them. They didn't come with enough D rings so you have to add a bunch.
Going to have to do a video shot with the camera riding on the rear of the trailer sometime if possible. Might be fun. (and to think, when I got up this morning I didn't know what a 'wetline' kit was - had to look that up.)
@@HammaDownEnterprises Yep, came across that a couple of videos later. Should have come back and edited my comment, but my excuse is that I got distracted with the Galion videos. :-) Kind of reminds me of the view from the old ladder trucks.
Great Find, A little work and you will be hauling equipment, there is good money in hauling equipment !!! believe me I know what I pay !!!!! Your friend from Michigan
Brings back memories as that was the 1st DGN trailer that I used (1989 Witzco) “Ground-Bearing” You had really make sure that you were on level terra-firma when you detached or you would be there awhile trying to mount-up plus I carried cheater plates to raise the travel position in grade-crossings or uneven intersections I was in heaven when my outfit purchased a new Talbert 50 T
Nice find sir! I have an old Murray so I don't need a wet line but the trailer's a pain when it's muddy or there's snow on the ground. I got it too cheap to mind all that though, stay safe and good luck with your new piece.
Butcher rock all over it tires not strapped down and the stiff legs weren’t even locked in not to mention you pulled out into on coming traffic when you left the junk yard
Nice find, Just found your channel and Nice Star to. Wizcos ain't bad trailers but I just don't like the ground bearing stuff. But if the price was right, Hell ya'
Thanks. Yeah, I’ve used a buddy of mine’s non-ground bearing trailer a couple times. One of these days, I’ll switch. But, until then, these Witzco trailers are indeed up to the task!
Those guys are hard on their equipment. Using the excavator like a dozer isn’t a good idea with that broken concrete. The bucket is flapping like a flag in the wind. Trailer is ruff but still some life in it. Just needs some TLC. Looks great on the back of the Knight!!!
im on the hunt for a lowboy soon. covid is screwing up me getting an 84 Diamond Reo Giant but once thats home and drivable the lowboy is coming next. You going to haul that other diamond reo up to me next?
Gary Feltus yes, it’s running. I just need to fix the tire and replace hydraulic lines. Now that I have something to move it, it’ll get put back on the list of ‘active’ projects 🤠
Yes. However, I can definitely see the benefits of a non-ground bearing trailer. And, it’d be nice if it had the neck mounted supports to keep it raised when disconnected from the deck. I’ve lost count of the number of 4x4s and blocks of wood I’ve lost because I forget to take them off the chassis and put them back in the well of the trailer…
yes, it'll do me just fine for a while!! Other than the lights giving me recurring issues, this trailer has hauled everything I've put on it without hesitation or groan!
If I were you I’d spend a day and just gut your old wiring and start from scratch with new wiring and LED lights front to back. That’s what I’ve been doing with all my trailers lately. Solder all the splices, shrink tubing followed by liquid electrical tape. That’s some long-term stuff right there!
Yeah, you’re right. I was a little too anxious to pull it out of there. Even after the pressure built up to 100 psi however, I needed to wait awhile for the brakes to finally break loose.
I’ve been hauling equipment with it ever since I pulled it out of there. All I needed to do replace a few deck boards and fix a few lights. All but 2 tires were new. Everything else is functional and I’ve already made back the money I paid for it.
Using the drive motors to push concrete into a pile instead of the rams on the boom and the stick. Priceless.
Dude must have thought he was operating a bulldozer

73DiamondReo lol. The body is shot on the Diamond Reo. I got plans for the motor, trans, and rear end though.
It’s long and low it’ll catch on a lot of things, nice WS, how many miles
Not sure. I’m sure the odometer has flipped at least once and it’s back at 428k again
Nothing wrong with old iron when it works.
Wow you got more work than you can shake a stick at. I see the old grader there. Did you ever get it running? Thanks for sharing.

Not used to turning radius huh...just wait til you get a dozer on the back and you cant see past the blade

Yes. However, I can definitely see the benefits of a non-ground bearing trailer. And, it’d be nice if it had the neck mounted supports to keep it raised when disconnected from the deck. Absolutely. Check out the asphalt buggy video. The largest excavator I’ve had on it is a Cat 336.

North Hill I’m not sure. Probably. But, it’s hard to tell which pieces of.his equipment were operational by just looking at them...
