You gotta remember the teams were the New York Mets and Philadelphia (Pennsylvania), two of the states that were directly effected by the events of 9/11. There’s a solid chance that someone there knew someone in the towers. It was very personal to them almost more than the rest of us in America.
14 innings in baseball is a very long game. It’s rare that a game goes that long. A lot of people probably left because they had work the next morning because May 2, 2011 was a Monday.
17:53 that baseball game went into extra innings so it ended almost at 1am because in America we keep on playing until someone wins, we don't do ties. The normal 9 inning game would've ended around 10 to 10:30pm, so a lot of people left before the end of the game because they had to work and go to school the next morning.
I was watching that game because my boyfriend (at the time) was there with friends but they left after the 10th inning. Also, that game way beyond boring & frustrating (Phillies left way too many guys on base!) The stadium was packed until the 9th though & then everyone started leaving.
I was on the base that the helicopters flew out of that night. The movies always say FOB Jalalabad but it was actualy FOB Fenty in Jalalabad or J-Bad. We were not far from the Pakistan border. Seen those helos on the flightline.
The word you’re looking for is “closure”. They probably thought the news would distract the players from the game but they didn’t realize that the chant itself was distracting.
You can't say you tried to get into baseball if you didn't go to a game. You gotta go to one some day, the atmosphere is what gets people hooked on baseball I think, for those who didn't grow up playing anyway.
I was in art class. I lived (still do) within commuting distance from NYC, everyone's family had someone working in the city. The news came over the speaker, and I remember my best friend at the time, his dad was NYPD and usually around the trade center. My dad was mid-town. Our school scrambled for early dismissal. We were all panicked about our loved ones. Forunately, my dad was in mid-town and we were able to speak to him, he was stranded for maybe a day or two before being able to leave the city. My friend's dad was not in lower Manhattan for some reason, I forget why, but he was okay too. Then summer '03 rolls around and decides to get my dad stuck in the city again... I refuse to commute to NYC for work and leave my family worrying should something happen.
I had gone back to school when I was 27, I was at Penn State. I was working on a final project and studying for finals. I heard the other students rushing to get downtown. Zero Dark Thirty, while not as accurate to the real events, does give a decent depiction to what happened on the search and eventual raid. Obviously there is still information that is classified and we probably won’t know for a while

Maybe they should have put the press conference on the stadiums big screen

As an interior design student we had to learn how and why the Twin Towers collapsed in case such unforseen tragedies occur in future events. We learned that the metal beams were left unprotected with no flame/heat retardent coat and the intense heat from the fires of the airplane fuel heated the metal up enough to make it brittle and bent them enough to create a chain reaction which led to the Twin Towers collapsing. I LOVED Zero Dark Thirty!!!!!
If I had to guess why it was not announced by the announcer in the stadium. It would probably be because they wanted the players to focus on the game and find out afterwards. They probably didn’t plan for it to go to extra innings.
I’d like to add that I don’t have any knowledge about why it wasn’t announced by the announcer. So, don’t take my word as gospel. Just a mere theory
I'm 4 minutes and 9 seconds in and I'm turning you off because you talk too much.
Closure thats the word you were probably looking for!
"AbuuUu... why you crying, Abu? I wouldn't have cried."
they probably didn't announce it since likely kids are at the game and you don't want to announce that a terrorist got killed I assume (incase some parents don't want their kids to know for whatever reason)
I was in bed when I heard. My mom woke me the morning of the 2nd and told me when she was getting me up from school. I was a few months shy of seventeen and still in high school at the time.
As an american..... ARSENAL ARSENAL ARSENAL!!!!!!!!!
Zero Dark Thirty is a fantastic film. Don't bother reading "reviews".
Obama may have continued some unnecessary conflicts but atleast he was a formidable president. After he left office america went down the drain.
You don’t announce news like this in a stadium. It’s a ballgame, for God’s sake. Not the 6 o’clock news.
Besides, it’s totally irrelevant and unnecessary to do so. Everyone got the news quickly enough.
Zero dark thirty
17:48 it said that it was close to 1AM, so people probably left early to go to bed
