It's weird for me to hear things like "can't justify the Porsche's price" based on performance and range. Porsche's are not priced due to just performance. They have a whole heritage of sophistication in their performance and Porsche has one of the most stout body structures in the industry. The fit and finish, the quality, the refinement, that's what. you pay for.
That said, I really love this analysis and how thorough it is and the effort put into it. I just think while Tesla has great numbers, other cars are worth more due to higher refinement.

      Absolutely correct! 👍🏼
The value proposition and original design brief put forward by each of these brands is completely different to the other.
If speed were the only measurement, $1 million Rolls Royces, wouldn't exist...
There are much more cheaper, much faster cars and supercars available at a fraction of the RR...
      😎👍🏼

Porsche has heritage and history but Tesla has innovation and being the pioneer in this space. Porsche is one of the best ICE builders all time but Tesla made EVs the future, they came up with the concept of OTAs, FSD was thought out before the first vehicle rolled off - hardware equipped to take pictures and even upload them to be used by the AI/ML engine for developing software. Not to mention the supercharger network. No dealer approach, mobile service that comes to ones vehicle for some repairs, and more. A lot of people, including me, will reward Tesla always for that. Just like people have been drawn to Apple iPhone for example. People like an underdog story, newcomers, etc. Therefore, comparisons based on value, will definitely exist because I am not sure in peoples' eyes, Tesla is an underdog here and that Porsche's, whatever the glorified past, matters much comparing it against Tesla.

Cant agree more. I have gone to the Porsche dealer and check out the Taycan, build quality is way better than my co worker new Model S. Owning a Porsche has never been cheap and rightfully so. You can say a Rolex (I own 3 of them including a Daytona) is not worth its price compares to an Apple Watch, but that’s not the point. My point is that sometimes owning a luxury item is base on pure emotion, just like spending $400 on a dinner with my wife in Alexander’s.

As a Tesla owner and fan, I will happily admit that that Taycan is a very sexy car. I've only seen a couple in person, but it's got a real presence in it's stance and design, that the Model S, while attractive, just doesn't compare. I'd still probably go with the Model S, I'd have to do something about that steering yoke though.
One thing watching this video, I'm starting to realize how alien those Taycan headlights are. I guess I'm just used to the more traditional Porsche headlights, those look very strange with their LED running light bars in the housing. I almost wonder what the Taycan would look like with more standard-looking headlights. They're kind of distracting to me now.

Yeah, the Taycan has just so much more character and drama compared to the Tesla. In this regard it reminds me of some Italian car designs, which is pretty much the most praise I could give it.
The Model S is really fine. It's essentially highly inoffensive and therefore ages quite well. But that also means there's very little incentive for Tesla to change their formula and be experimental. The Plaid is really much representative of that. It mostly got a beefed up powertrain, but got very little changes to its overall design and other features. The most prominent change is the (at this point infamous) 'yoke' and that is not even a step into the right direction.
Meanwhile Porsche seems to be very confident and creative about their own electric future, which seems to have embolden them to design the Mission-R, which I find fascinating and awesome to look at, in pretty much every aspect.

    Couple things (Taycan owner here):
    1) EPA rated range isn't a reliable indicator for actual range, Tesla overstates vs Porsche understates so the difference isn't that significant
    2) You cannot possibly decide on a car without actually driving it. That's pointless. People almost never buy a car simply because of its acceleration time on a drag strip (unless they're planning to drag race it), they buy based on multiple factors like ride, handling, design, warranty, service etc... Porsche is hands down the winner in most of those areas, this is not disputable. Tesla is almost last on the JD Power list, Porsche is near the top.
Many current Taycan owners have owned multiple Teslas and most say their experience was pretty bad with dealers, and quality issues were rampant.
Before you give your opinion, go drive both and then make your comments about the values. :)

But which one would you choose if you had to choose between the Taycan base model with performance battery and the Model S long range? Both come at 95k€ in Germany. That Porsche will give you about 210 mi. But from what I've heard the Porsche range is spot on for long trips and the Tesla range is overestimated. Also, my daily driver has 150-180 mi range and no fast charging and that's sufficient for me and my 12000mi/year so... I wouldn't pay 5000€ for more range.

I do like the Tesla but out of these two I'd still choose the Porsche. The actual range difference in the real world is more like 230 vs 300 miles and the 0-60 seems to be 2.3 or 2.2 for the tesla, not 2.0. So Tesla still is the fastest car out there for sure but that faster acceleration, even if it was 0.6s, is it worth the trade off? For me it raises the question, what's more important? Emotion, looks, faster charging, interior and build quality vs power and 70 miles more range and 40k$ less money. I don't quite get the Model S atm, 140k is super luxury brand territory but you don't get the luxury you might expect, you 'only' get power and more range which isn't as useful in a daily driver, which i believe both are meant to be. I'd rather feel more comfy and upscale in my car than know i can outrun the taycan on a drag strip. And the turbo S is still plenty fast. But that's just me.

    • @a.banana

      @Milkastier 2 роки тому

@@a.banana yeah, like I said, 2.3 or 2.2 i wasnt sure about the exact time and i guess more tests are needed. so the difference to 60 is about 0.4s. Which is clearly better, I'm not trying to put Tesla down here the performace is amazing. This is all hypothetical anyway cause I can't spend 140k on a car let alone 190k for the Porsche lol. My point is, the performance is not as useful as some benefits the Porsche gives you in everyday use. For me, the Tesla I would choose is the Model X LR or Plaid, which is 10k less or more. Because that one gives some really useful benefits being that spacious and the performance is good enough I'd say. If I had 120-130k to spend on a car I still don't know if i wouldn't go for a slower but better built car though. Tough choice.

I'm not trying to dismiss what has been said, I understand where you're coming from. Even an all out, 2,000hp hypercar like the Rimac Nevera could only improve on the Plaid's 0-60 by 0.1 of a second. The 60-130mph paints a much clearer picture.
