This isn't insane at all. Everyone did this when the game first came out. It's funny watching people play the redone D2 thinking that what they do is different than what us original D2 players did lmao.
Let's goooo! You made me buy diablo 2, and it's so much better than diablo 4 it's unreal, currently about to finish up normal difficulty on a hardcore char, going for 99
It really is wild I have play d2 since I was outta kindergarten lol and I'm in my 30's ! This game just never gets old! Bought D4 and was so hype about it but only played about a month and just got to busy building a amazon on d2 lol
The fact Sigons dropped entirely is wild! Well done. Already looking forward to the next wild challenge like this. It makes me want to play like this to refresh the experience like you said.
You’re a blacksmith in a small settlement minding your own business when you see a very large gentleman walking up, wearing not much more than some rags and furs. You welcome him to the town and notice the small shield and axe that he is carrying. You compliment his blacksmith and jokingly tell him that he’ll need those if he decides to venture outside of the settlement. The man gives you a stern look and explains that these are merely to give away for good will and to establish a good rapport with the town. He then walks outside and begins brawling with the demonic creatures which had been long plaguing the town. To your surprise, the creatures didn’t stand a chance. With a puzzled smile on your face, you think to yourself: “We’re saved.”
A couple of points: 1. Using runes and gems technically breaks your rule, as they cannot be acquired with vendors. But I understand the challenge would be three times as hard without them 2. Larzuk always gives the max amount of sockets on every item. Non elite items are really not that great with max sockets, so you need to research how many sockets every item can have before using the quest 3. Thawing potions dude Overall, this was really fun to watch, good job!
Hey fyi Larzuk doesn't always give max sockets. Each item gets a certain number based on the item and the level of the enemy that dropped it. So for example Crystal sword will get 3 sockets if dropped by an enemy level 1-25, 4 sockets for level 26-40, and 6 for level 41+. To find either of these just google "diablo 2 sockets by ilvl" and "diablo 2 ilvl by area".
@@Mojbak. nope. White items are based on ilvl of the enemy that dropped it. Example - crystal sword gets 3 from level 1-25, 4 from 26-40, and 6 from 41+. Just Google "diablo 2 sockets by ilvl" and "ilvl by area". Cheers guys.

I have a challenge idea for you, friend. You can call it whatever you want but I call it the "inheritance challenge". The idea is simple: take a high lvl character that's beaten all 3 modes and have him run 1 area of each act through each difficulty and in this area you can keep 1 of each armor slot (helm, chest, 2 rings, ammy, weapon/shield) and your challenge character can use those for that act and to use the ones on later acts it has to get to the later acts. Rules: 1. Can only use inherited gear, any drops can be sold but not used. 2. Any mercs allowed, but gear is also inherited from you. 3.Buying pots, scrolls etc is allowed. 4. You can pick up gems and runes. You can use runewords, but only if you happen to get a socketed item inherited. 5. For the inheritance runs, reminder that you're only allowed 1 run per act so make it count.
Yeah maybe I should have talked more about how long I had to shop for? The video is extremely edited for those parts, I spend many hours in total looking through vendors’ inventories. I did find those two shields in hell very quickly though, I remember being surprised when it happened.
This is very close to how I played this game 15 years ago, without the knowledge of rune words and whatnot. :) I've never managed to beat the hell ancients with my barb though, as I didn't know how to separate them. Thanks for this run, it brought a lot of fond memories!
Great video buddy. Really enjoyed it You are very well spoken. You kept me engaged the whole 40 minutes. Funny Sigon drops too 😀 Keep up the good work o7
Great video and a nice challenge! I mostly play the modded version ( Path of Diablo ) from time to time when ladder fits my personal life etc, but i've always been a D2 fan, love your content! Keep it up, love from Sweden! :)
I got inspired by this run and did my vendor only hammerdin run. I'm in act 4 hell, act 2 is where the real challenge began. Having to run buy potions every few minutes and even running out of gold for potions at certain locations reminds me of the times when I was first playing Diablo2 original when it was released. You can say Hammerdin is easy but running without Spirit and other basic runewords made it challenging enough for me. Having to store some weak rare items for certain occasions, having to use antidote and thawing potions, having to use different auras like salvation, redemption, not just concentration makes me realise the game was intended to be played this way - we're so used to Meta that we don't see it. And it's fair - like when I'm around caster mobs, I use salvation which makes my damage lower, but they have lower health anyway so it feels really balanced. And I learned that there is a difference between mob's 95% chance to hit me and 83%. And feeling when gambling a +1 pal skills 20 all res amu was priceless. To bring more luck factor I changed a rule that vendor quest items are ok (like imbue, Anya's reward, and rings from Ormus and Akara)
Thanks for sharing! It really was a fresh experience to look for gear in other places than the countess :) What weapon are you using? I guess one could buy a scepter with both blessed hammer and concentration from grinding Drognan close to the town exit. Maybe even with FCR or +Paladin skills, but that seems extremely rare. As I was first thinking about using a Paladin for my run too, I realized that you can’t buy or gamble Paladin class specific shields, which takes away one really easy and reliable source of all resists. In hindsight I think allowing the quest rewards from NPCs makes the challenge more fun and interesting. Still keeps with the “vendor only” theme but gives a few limited opportunities to get lucky.

Barbarians actually have a secret weapon when dealing with Lister and his pack. This is awesome. Here recently i have been playing D2R with no runewords allowed and it has honestly made the game much more fun at least for the time being. Gambling and crafting items is way more interesting.
I’ve kind of been sleeping on crafted items but they’re so interesting. Blood crafts especially have some really strong recipes! Definitely want to do some kind of challenge that allows me to really explore crafts sometime
dam! very well done! after having spent countless hours on D2 Expansion myself back in the day, I would've thought a challenge run like this would be near impossible, you did excellent, such a shame to have all Sigons be sold like that, but it made the run far more fun in the end i'm sure, great use of the runes at the end, open wounds is easily one of the best ways to deal with those treacherous hell waves, you got me wanting to buy this and replay it after losing my battle chest with the original discs themselves, it's a shame it's only on Battlenet and quite pricy at that, never even knew there was a "Resurrected" version somehow that slipped by me so I was like "what is this private stash of his a mod?" might just have to buy this and spend more of my life playing it, thanks for doing this run and reviving my interest in the game more then you did your own Merc ;)
I've completed Vendor Only Gear runs on every class except Barbarian, so this was actually pretty amusing to watch. The easiest classes by far are Necromancer and Sorceress, especially Necro since he's the least gear-dependent character in the game and gets summons who can clear the game for you with enough patience. But I think the most fun class to do this with was Assassin just because she's so incredibly even with minimalist gear, and Normal Mode is a playground for her once you get some decent +Mana gear for her from Act II onward.
Yo man, I've seen your post and was awaiting the video. Appreciate your effort very much in advance, definitely will watch the video after work. You're doing great job! Hello from Ukraine, by the way 👋
This challenge captures my first playthrough of D2 as a kid. I could not figure out how to identify items for the first few days and so i struggle with almost anything on the way.
Haha good times! I remember having a similar situation, but an older relative who gave me d2 showed me how to do it pretty early so I didn’t go too long. I also remember focusing a lot on defense, because it was the easiest number to make bigger faster haha
Definitely agreed on the melee build, sorc, necro and druid summoning and spell builds would've made a joke of this, hammerdin, javazon, auradin and trapsasin would've definitely made it too easy too, barbarian was basically the only basic choice that would really test the gear rather than how much you could do without, with skills.
@@zarfen i hope so, i really enjoy watching your videos, so it would be really interesting to watch this kind of challenge :D i fell in love playing hc, since i played first time, there is a bit of adrenaline knowing that any mistake can make you lose all progress

that Korlic fight was epic lmao
I did the Ancients last night on Nightmare with a badly geared throw Barbarian and I was kiting them for 30 minutes. 🤣
@zeus136988 it feels like the ancients are either a cake walk or a 20-30 minute grind, nothing in between!

I’ve kind of been sleeping on crafted items but they’re so interesting. Blood crafts especially have some really strong recipes! Definitely want to do some kind of challenge that allows me to really explore crafts sometime
@@zarfen the blood axe recipe has come in handy doing ssf throw barb several times!
dam! very well done! after having spent countless hours on D2 Expansion myself back in the day, I would've thought a challenge run like this would be near impossible, you did excellent, such a shame to have all Sigons be sold like that, but it made the run far more fun in the end i'm sure, great use of the runes at the end, open wounds is easily one of the best ways to deal with those treacherous hell waves, you got me wanting to buy this and replay it after losing my battle chest with the original discs themselves, it's a shame it's only on Battlenet and quite pricy at that, never even knew there was a "Resurrected" version somehow that slipped by me so I was like "what is this private stash of his a mod?" might just have to buy this and spend more of my life playing it, thanks for doing this run and reviving my interest in the game more then you did your own Merc ;)
Thanks for you comment!
I agree that modern “online only” philosophy is a shame but other than that I think this is an amazing remaster.
This is insane dedication man, hella respect
U got another subscriber in me, got me hooked on d2 once again hah
Thanks, that’s awesome!
Actually interesting and entertaining d2r content + a very pleasant bonus that you are funny.
Thank you very much! :)
Good job! Im trying to finish hell mode on a mosaic runeword assassin but im 9 years old
I've completed Vendor Only Gear runs on every class except Barbarian, so this was actually pretty amusing to watch.
It was fun to watch and even encouraged my to play. Thank you for the video and for the challenge.
Yo man, I've seen your post and was awaiting the video. Appreciate your effort very much in advance, definitely will watch the video after work.
You're doing great job!
Hello from Ukraine, by the way 👋
Thanks, I appreciate it!
I wish you a nice and safe weekend.
what a salvation that Um in the sword must have been! congrats on another great video! subscribed.
It really was!
Thanks!
What i find most exciting about this is the Jah you found at countess, how did you do that?
that Um rune really came in clutch, cool challenge
This challenge captures my first playthrough of D2 as a kid. I could not figure out how to identify items for the first few days and so i struggle with almost anything on the way.
Haha good times! I remember having a similar situation, but an older relative who gave me d2 showed me how to do it pretty early so I didn’t go too long. I also remember focusing a lot on defense, because it was the easiest number to make bigger faster haha
Great video, good content and nice to see a new way to beat the game
Definitely agreed on the melee build, sorc, necro and druid summoning and spell builds would've made a joke of this, hammerdin, javazon, auradin and trapsasin would've definitely made it too easy too, barbarian was basically the only basic choice that would really test the gear rather than how much you could do without, with skills.
Well done, as a hc only player i am waiting for your hc challenge , for example paladin from lvl 1 to uber. Hope to see this kind of gameplay
I always respond that I don’t play HC but eventually the HC comments will convince me 😅
@@zarfen i hope so, i really enjoy watching your videos, so it would be really interesting to watch this kind of challenge :D i fell in love playing hc, since i played first time, there is a bit of adrenaline knowing that any mistake can make you lose all progress
What a badass video. Great effort and victory!
Great vid! Very glad it was you not me attempting this challenge 🤣
Haha happy to do it 😂 and thanks!
Just discovered this channel. Played the original version a lot and had fun with special builds like zeal sorc. Really amazing to see what options you have to play this game in other modes. :D Maybe give a skill tree update every 10 lvl?
6:00 This really caught me off guard. my girlfriend came over and asked if I'm alright 😂
Haha 😁
Great job with this series, love watching keep it up also why no whirlwind
Thanks!
I didn’t think WW would be good with mediocre gear but tbh I didn’t give it a try so maybe I was missing out?
