Biking Pennsylvania: The Pine Creek Rail Trail -- Grand Canyon of PA
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лют 2025
- The Pine Creek Rail Trail is one of Pennsylvania’s destination trails, and for good reason. The 62-mile well-maintained trail runs at the bottom of scenic Pine Creek Gorge, commonly called the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania. On smooth crushed stone, the mostly level trail runs from Stokesdale Junction, outside of Wellsboro, PA to Jersey Shore, PA. There is a 2% grade along the entire route. The finely crushed limestone surface is best suited for hybrid bikes. Only Class 1 ebikes are permitted on this trail.
The Darling Run access parking area is the northern access to the PA Grand Canyon and one of the most popular areas to start a bike ride or walk/run. The 16 miles from Darling Run to Blackwell is the most secluded and pristine. Around mile point 13 stop to hike up the Turkey Path - a hiking trail that winds its way to the top of the canyon to the Leonard Harrison State Park lookout area. This ride took place on May, 23, 2024.

🚗 Car Shuttle Service - there are a couple of services I found on the internet (NOTE: these are not endorsements as we did not use a shuttle): Pine Creek Outfitters in Ansonia, and Pine Creek Shuttle Service (located on the Southern end of the trail).
🛌Places to stay that are right on the trail: Ludwig’s Trailside B&B, Blackwell; Cedar Run Inn, Cedar Run; Waterville Hotel, Waterville.

I hear this trail is even more spectacular in the fall. I hope you both are able to return in October some year. This trail should also be voted into the Rail Trail Hall of Fame someday soon.
This definitely is a great trail. Maybe we can get to it in the fall someday? Thanks for watching.
My wife & I did the first half when we were vacationing in Wellsboro a few years ago. Loved it. As a railfan, I’d love to come back and ride the second half - I love the old railroad bridges on that section. Thanks for sharing!
Definitely one of the most peaceful trails we've ever ridden. Thanks for watching.
This ride would take me forever. Just way too much great fishing to pass up 😊. Great video, gotta go get a bike and start riding again
@@feltn78 Fish first, ride second???? Tough choice. Thanks for watching.
Another great video from Adventures on ebikes- thanks so much! You have some of the best e-biking videos out there! I really appreciate your attention to the details regarding parking, bathrooms, food and any relevant historical information. You address the pros (and cons) of each ride and show the viewer highlights of what they can expect along the way. We are heading out to ride a portion of the New River State Park trail next week. We can't wait!
Thank you for your support! We really appreciate it. I'm jealous of your riding the New River. 🙃 That was one of our first trail rides and I want to get back and do a new video in 4K. Have a great ride.
Both beautiful trail and those wildflowers too!
Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it
This ride, for whatever reason, reminds me of a time gone by, a simpler, less complicated time in America and the world as well.
It is a very peaceful ride. There isn’t much, if any, cell service on the trail. They have a couple of emergency land lines at a couple of the rest stops!
@@Adventuresonebikes Oh, I was right then, that is nice and all, only problem is if there is, God forbid, some kind of emergency, it may prove difficult to get help.
@@pedrofernandez8729They have rattlesnake signs about every 5 miles on the trail. If you do any research on the trial in advance they tell you that you are in the middle of nowhere and unlikely to get phone signal - so make sure you have enough water and whatever supplies you think you’ll need. They also encourage you to be careful because it could take an hour or two to get to you if you did need help.
Another awesome video. What a great trail. I love your Da brim hat. I have two of them myself and I love them. I have been using them for years.
Thank you for your kind comments. I saw the Da Brim hat on a number of people when we were out West last year. Seemed like a good idea and I’m glad I spent the money for it. Definitely keeps the sun off! We appreciate your support of our channel.
@@Adventuresonebikes You make killer video's all the time. I enjoy watching them.
@@jongolsteyn9680 You are too kind! Thank you for your support.
I just got a Lectric 3.0 and am so excited to take this trail. Might have to go alone, but that's ok too!
Have a fun ride! Thanks for watching.
Thank u.Beautiful scenery
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
Travels, Trails and Treats on Two Wheels should be the name of your channel.
We will consider that suggestion
@@Adventuresonebikes Nah, I was just kidding, that's a horrible, tacky name.
@@pedrofernandez8729I said we’d consider. We didn’t consider it for long - ha ha!!
Great job. At Slate run you have the Black Forest trail. Amazing hike. Thank you.
Thanks for your insight and thanks for watching.
wow...great trail! greetings from toronto canada. our trails here are flat - like no mountains - only the niagara escarpment.
Thanks for watching
If you guys are ever in Missouri come checkout the Katy Trail! The St Charles, Klondike Park and Rocheport areas are all nice sections of it!
It’s on our list. Just need to find 10 days in our schedule to get there and ride the entire trail. We appreciate your support of our channel.
Hi guys , we have done this trail in the early spring, absolutely loved it , as it gave us an earlier ride than staying home in 🇨🇦 . ( Wet & cold) ,,,, at what time of year did you experience this latest trail? Love your vids
We rode this trail on May 23, 2024. Just a FYI: i always put the date of the ride and links to any useful information I have in the description below the video. Thanks for taking a minute to share your experience and we appreciate your kind comments and support of our channel. We’re happy you like what we are doing.
Nice video. Thanks for posting. Not to be critical but it would be nice to get a little more information about the trails you record. We travel North America with our trailer and try to save information on different trails we should explore the next time we’re in a given corner of the country.
@@airstream2525 Thanks for your comment. What kind of information are you looking for? In this video I purposefully did something different than other videos and didn’t add any additional narration, or any music. But I always put additional information in the description under the video. We appreciate your support of our channel.
@@Adventuresonebikes Gosh I'm sorry. I posted my comment and didn't realize that you had a bunch of info in the description. Normally it's stuff like trail maps, community names etc that we really look for. Most times we really don't have any idea of the locations etc. So Google maps and Trail apps become our friends.....:)
Thanks again for a great video
Enjoying your video, beautiful scenery and country side. Would like more information on where you stayed, name’s of restaurant and pit stops and even the river. Were you in your Rv or hoteling it. When coming from the PNW to see these trails your information would be helpful. Jeff and Liz Bend Oregon
We didn't take the RV because we were only gone two days. We wanted to stay along the trail, and I've included several places I found in my research in the video description. We ultimately stayed in the Penn Wells Lodge in Wellsboro because it just seemed easier to book -- it was only a few miles from where we started on our first day and was a town of some size (compared to the rest of the area), so we thought we'd have more meal options. We ate dinner at an Italian Restaurant within walking distance of the hotel -- the meal was just OK. The river is Pine Creek. This is a very isolated trail, so I would suggest you Google it for more information as there are several sources. Here is one that might be helpful: susquehannagreenway.org/land-trails/pine-creek-rail-trail/. There were only a couple of towns along the route. In Blackwell there was a small store. Cedar Run is the center of the trail. In Cedar Run we ate at the general store. The hotel across the street in Cedar Run only serves dinner. In Waterville we ate at the Waterville Hotel -- I mentioned in the video that you could stay overnight, but there is a 2-night minimum. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and we hope you have a great trip.
Great video, kudos for gettin the meal in. But...why are they fishing for flies???
Hi Don, While the ride is always great, for me if there isn’t a food stop, I don’t like the trail as much!! Fly fishing, Don. Thanks as always for your support.
Very beautiful video. Thanks for sharing. subd & 👍129
Thank you for watching and for subscribing and giving it a thumbs up. That always helps us to build our channel and bring even more adventures to you. "See" you on our next ride.
Where do you leave your car? How do you get back to it?
We left our car in the Darling Run parking area on the first day. We biked as far as we wanted to go and then biked back. Second day we parked in a parking area at the other end of the trail. I believe there is a company that will pick you up and/or drop you off. We didn't make any contact with them, but I did put their info in the video description. Thanks for watching.
Please give information on the brim on your helmet. Also does it attach to any helmet?
The brim is from Da Brim. I believe it should attach to any normal bike helmet. It basically just pushes on. It looks like there are buckles that hook on, but they must be just for decoration because they don't hook to the helmet. It wasn't cheap, but it is of good quality and I received it quickly. Only thing is that if you are riding in a strong wind, you may want to tighten your helmet chin strap if it's a little loose, because the brim gives you a little of the "Flying Nun" effect! Here's a link to their website: dabrim.com/collections/cycling-products. Thanks for watching.
@@Adventuresonebikes thank you
Looks awesome! I wish it would be more accessible by train. I use Amtrak to get to the places I wanna ride. Thanks for the ride, I've heard a lot of praise for this trail.
Thanks for your continued support.
What month did you ride?
This ride took place on May 23, 2024. I usually put the date of the ride in the description, but I see that I neglected to with this video. That's fixed now!! Thanks for asking.
Our ride was May 23 of this year. Thanks for the watching.
What brand and model bikes are you riding?
Our bikes are Gazelle Ultimate C8's. Thanks for watching.
What was the name of hotel you need a 2 night minimum?
Waterville Hotel in Waterville. Not sure if you’ve had a chance to look in the description below the video, but I’ve listed several other places and additional resources there. Thanks for watching.
1/2 HP per bike and 2 HP for a wagon full of people, something wrong here.
Ha ha!! Thanks for watching.
