Also going up to an F4 in your chest is absolutely mind-blowing considering you're an oktavist. I'm not an oktavist, and I'm trained and I can barely strain out an F4 on a good day. You're someone to aspire to for sure!
Wow! Your voice is just absolutely remarkable Mr. Holloway! I feel that bass singers like you are extremely underrated cuz most people prefer tenors and sopranos since they supposedly have the "money notes" but I find bass singers very intriguing and this is coming from a countertenor btw.

From the fattest/loosest function the thinnest/tightest function. It's so exciting to observe your passagios(low!), since I almost never get to hear a profondo singing scales. Eric Hollaway I hadn’t done much research on the soundtrack and I assumed that the singing on it was artificially changed to hit deeper notes because I thought there’s no way in hell that someone has that deep a voice. Amazing job on it and it’s insane that someone who can go that low can also go so high. Amazing work!
Holy I wish I had a range that extended over five octaves. I've got roughly four, ranging from higher tenor to high soprano. Holy wow I'm amazed at how well your vocal chords are trained and disciplined. Very well done.

Out of curiosity, have you heard of subharmonic bass singing, and what is your opinion on it? It can be used much more musically than fry(in my opinion, at least) and is a massive expansion upon one's modal range. Would you call a note reached with the subharmonic technique "hit," or "sung?"
Regardless of what one might call it, I think if you have full control of the sound coming out of your mouth i.e. able to give it dynamics, color, blend it harmoniously, apply diminuendos and crescendos effortlessly, and pitch it...then THAT would be a note "sung". Anything else...is just a "hit".
Ray Tian ..... I do not count a note that I cannot change/move, form intelligible words & enunciate properly, etc.... as a note in my "singing range" because....it isn't! That does not include fry/grunts & growls. Those are for people who want to be LOW basses, but....aren't. Do you really think Eric has ANY need of subharmonics? NOT !!!

Hello mr. Hollaway. Your voice has really amazing weight and timbre! Do you remember where your lower register limit was when you were 17? I'm untrained and my limit in chest voice is D2. Is it possible that my voice will drop to true bass?
+Bart Rythm and Blues Thank you Bart! At 17, I was only thinking about graduating HS and flying off to Basic training. It was years later that I even thought about my register or it's limits. lol! I'd say it is definitely possible for your voice to drop but there are so many factors that come into play, most of all...genetics. Deep voices run in my family but mine seems to be an anomaly even in that regard. Only time will tell for sure. Thanks for your support!!

Wow! Really amazing, man, the speakers on my laptop could barely render the lower notes lol! It's amazing how full your voice sounds. On a good day I can reach as low as A1, but I've noticed that my lower limit has increased since I startet practicing, maybe one day I'll get closer to what you can do!
All of techniques to sing lower (such as growl, subharmonic, vocal fry, ingressive phonation) don't sound really naturally, so I rather to sing low notes with chest voice. So I can get lower notes naturally.
I'm impressed! You've got a great range! I'm also a bass, and I've also got a huge range, from C2-C6 at my extremes. I don't meet too many people with full four-octave ranges like I do, but when I do, it's so cool!
Yep! The four-octave-range club is small indeed! I mostly sing bass, but I also enjoy singing soprano in my head voice/falsetto. I used to have a roommate who is a soprano with a similar four-octave range (C3-C7), and she and I would have range contests all the time!
Chaosdude7111 Here are 4 easy steps that may lower your vocal range. I can’t guarantee this will take you to the level of Basso Profondo, but what have you got to lose? 1. Think about a comfortable high pitch to start on - hear it in your head first.2. Initiate the pitch with the mind picture of an elevator starting in the Penthouse.3. Begin to slide on the syllable “HEEE”, pitch to pitch, down to the lowest note of your singing range. With each note, picture the elevator on a steady, smooth and effortless ride to the bottom.4. As you reach the bottom of your range it is important to balance the decrease in airflow, the amount of resonating space in the chest cavity, and the amount of muscular control used. As the doorman, experiment with access to these areas. The ability to negotiate the space in the “basement” is directly related to how low you can sing and how warm your tone sounds.NOTE: Do not “push” the voice in this range at all. It is better to relax and decrease your airflow, while continuing to support with the diaphragm. With productive vocal practice and repetition the strength of that vocal range will increase. Pushing the voice in this range will only result in stress and/or damage to the voice organ and delayed vocal development. Disclaimer: As stated before...I was born with this voice. I didn't develop it in any way shape or form so I cannot personally vouch for this information. It's just something learned over the years so I share it.
I highly resent your implications that falsetto and head voice are essentially useless for singing. I happen to have trained my falsetto and mix/head voice well enough to produce a full, soprano-like sound in that register, so I have a fully functional mezzo voice, as well as a functional bass-baritone voice. You clearly do not know the capabilities of non-modal registers when singing. Just look at any famous countertenor or sopranista, and you'll see what they can do with their not 'real full sung notes'. To answer your other question, I do mean C2, as in two octaves below middle C. It's the bottom of my range, so it's not always reliable, but I have sung it several times in performance, so it's reliable enough.

Thank you Kalin! I give all credit to God for this unique voice He gave me. My voice dropped at the age of 12 and has been deep and rich ever since. At 27, I had my first voice lesson as a Voice major in college. That lasted for 2 years. I'm 50 now and have always taken pretty good care of my voice. Never been a smoker and I refrain from hanging out in bad atmosphere areas i.e. clubs, campfires, smokers, harsh weather, etc.. I appreciate your support!

The guy who currently has the world record for lowest vocal note for a man has a 10 octave vocal range. (And the range, on it's own, is a record too.) If this isn't true, you'd have to speak with the guy that claims it or with Guinness World Records.
The guy who has the world's largest vocal range, Tim Storms, has a vocal range including his fry range (a note as this man states isn't really singing, he can just hit the note), His singing voice, which is usually a 2-3 octave range for normal people depends on there vocal exercising, falsetto, that can range possibly up to three octaves, probably more, and his whistle register, which is a tad hard for normal people to use. so yeah. Reference: A friend of mine's cousin's married to Tim Storms. Thought that was pretty cool.
That F1 is so clean! I love seeing other really low basses but I get jealous when they have just a few notes below me (bottoming our at a g#1 on a good day and consistently having a b flat 1)
George Bakewell I'm a tenor, but for some reason I speak in the bottom of my range (generally around E2, my lowest chest note being a strained C2). I dont know why that is.
George Bakewell nope, I checked with tuner. I am a dramatic tenor though, so by definition I have a solid low range. But the thing is that even though I speak in that range, when I sing it it does not sound resonant at all.
I agree but the term "oktavist" is still relatively new to many people. Basso Profondo is easier for the masses to identify with. Thanks for your support!

Outstanding, Mr holloway, I'm a basso profundo myself but at the time I'm just 24, and my lowest steady note was somewhere between F#1 & G1(no fry) , but not having enough power as it still needs time to develop and I'm too young for that, while your F1 is as strong as my B1, I can eaisly tell you can go much lower, maybe at least D#1, You are my inspiration, I'm looking forward to become a true octavist in the years to come, still can't imagine coming close to your ground shaking vocal weight The other amazing thing about your voice is how strong it is in the fourth and fifth octave!!! Not even losing an ounce of power!!! You are gifted with a godly voice which many men dream of having it, I myself included. Wish you the best, and I know I got a lot to learn from you Mr Holloway. You said everything I like to hear from young basses. Your bass isn't developed enough to sound like me at your age. You can't skip the necessary ingredients of time and experience. But I see so many young voices trying to. Keep singing and taking care of your instrument. Develop good breathing techniques and gradually expand your diaphragm while gently pushing the boundaries of your range. Do that, and you'll be pleasantly surprised in the next 10-20yrs. 👊🏾
@@thatbassvoice Accually yeah it needs at least 10-20 years for my voice to completely develop, I hit G1 with around 50% power of my G2, but I can't sing below B1.to go lower than B1 I must hit the notes from B1 and gradually come down to G1 like the rach challenge, and I can't do a G1 or A1 with the first note I try.I didn't do much practice and I have started practicing recently Thanks for your reply, It means a lot to me, Much appreciated
also...TIm Storms is perhaps the worst "bass" singer I have ever heard. the inaudible , pitchless frying he does(so well) is not music. is not singing. Look up Tim Riley "Ezekiel Saw that WHeel" and see what a real bass does. Storms is a party trick. theres no power, no finesse. just a gag.
Very astounding. I'm in my high school's choir, and so far my vocal range is G2-E5. My teacher has always been saying that I am the 'true bass' out of the group. Someday, I hope to work on my ranges and get to the range you are at today. A true basso profondo range is incredible.
I am currently in my third year of high school. All throughout middle and my first year of high school I have had a very high pitched voice. I sang a tenor 1 up until my third year of high school. However, last year my voice began to drop alarmingly quickly. I still sang tenor 1, although the most of it was in falsetto. This really built up power in my falsetto, which currently can go up to a C6, D6 on a good day. During last year, my voice continued to drop, and I am currently a tenor 2, able to sing a C2, which is lower than any of the bass 2's in my choir. My chest voice can barely go above a D4. It's gotten to the point where my choral director is going to retest everyone to move me from being a tenor 2 to a bass 2. I hope that one day my voice can go as low as yours can, and as powerfully. That was a very impressive show you gave, and I hope to one day match that. Your timbre is wonderful, and your range incredible. One quick question: What kind of training would you suggest to help me develop my voice on notes this low, and how could I also develop my falsetto to not sound airy?

Sounds like puberty hit you a little late but none the less...take time learning your new voice and it's limits. When it comes to singing out of your true range remember...just because you can, doesn't mean you should. It could really shorten your singing career and damage your chords over time. Hahah, this is so cool. Did my best to follow along with the help of an app. My normal speaking voice is about E2. I can go a little lower but it starts to sound like an idle motor for some reason. The control you have the entire way is mesmerizing... My brain hasn't figured out the difference between "loud" and "pitch" for some reason. I got stuck after about A3 hahah -- "Your average shower singer" -- impressively done man :).
The subrange B1-E4 sounds very nice, round and well-projected. I suspect that above and below this is more marginal in terms of musical usefulness. A nice lyric voice. I agree that it is most important what notes can be projected well rather than merely what pitches can be emitted (some man produced a 44KHz tone in whistle register, but that is not a musical feat!)
WOW !!! I am a Preacher/bass singer (Gospel music), and I sure wish I had that resonance from the Pulpit !!! No more dozing mid-sermon ! Seriously...the F1 I am close to @ G#1 (I only count singable notes...no growls or screeches), but the resonance makes your F1 sound incredible, and....what really got me was the high end! I am 3 octaves and a note, but WOW....4 octaves.....incredible !!! Now I want to (must) hear you sing !

Tone_y I think F below low C (F1) is enough! But, my dad was an octavist & could (sometimes) go to C below low C(C1).

Hello mr. Hollaway. Your voice has really amazing weight and timbre! Do you remember where your lower register limit was when you were 17? I'm untrained and my limit in chest voice is D2. Is it possible that my voice will drop to true bass?
+Bart Rythm and Blues Thank you Bart! At 17, I was only thinking about graduating HS and flying off to Basic training. It was years later that I even thought about my register or it's limits. lol! I'd say it is definitely possible for your voice to drop but there are so many factors that come into play, most of all...genetics. Deep voices run in my family but mine seems to be an anomaly even in that regard. Only time will tell for sure. Thanks for your support!!

Wow! Really amazing, man, the speakers on my laptop could barely render the lower notes lol! It's amazing how full your voice sounds. On a good day I can reach as low as A1, but I've noticed that my lower limit has increased since I startet practicing, maybe one day I'll get closer to what you can do!

He doesn't use vocal fry at all. Listen to his speaking voice. We can hear the deepness of his voice.
All of techniques to sing lower (such as growl, subharmonic, vocal fry, ingressive phonation) don't sound really naturally, so I rather to sing low notes with chest voice. So I can get lower notes naturally.

Yep! The four-octave-range club is small indeed! I mostly sing bass, but I also enjoy singing soprano in my head voice/falsetto. I used to have a roommate who is a soprano with a similar four-octave range (C3-C7), and she and I would have range contests all the time!

Chaosdude7111 Here are 4 easy steps that may lower your vocal range. I can’t guarantee this will take you to the level of Basso Profondo, but what have you got to lose? 1. Think about a comfortable high pitch to start on - hear it in your head first.2. Initiate the pitch with the mind picture of an elevator starting in the Penthouse.3. Begin to slide on the syllable “HEEE”, pitch to pitch, down to the lowest note of your singing range. With each note, picture the elevator on a steady, smooth and effortless ride to the bottom.4. As you reach the bottom of your range it is important to balance the decrease in airflow, the amount of resonating space in the chest cavity, and the amount of muscular control used. As the doorman, experiment with access to these areas. The ability to negotiate the space in the “basement” is directly related to how low you can sing and how warm your tone sounds.NOTE: Do not “push” the voice in this range at all. It is better to relax and decrease your airflow, while continuing to support with the diaphragm. With productive vocal practice and repetition the strength of that vocal range will increase. Pushing the voice in this range will only result in stress and/or damage to the voice organ and delayed vocal development. Disclaimer: As stated before...I was born with this voice. I didn't develop it in any way shape or form so I cannot personally vouch for this information. It's just something learned over the years so I share it.
I highly resent your implications that falsetto and head voice are essentially useless for singing. I happen to have trained my falsetto and mix/head voice well enough to produce a full, soprano-like sound in that register, so I have a fully functional mezzo voice, as well as a functional bass-baritone voice. You clearly do not know the capabilities of non-modal registers when singing. Just look at any famous countertenor or sopranista, and you'll see what they can do with their not 'real full sung notes'. To answer your other question, I do mean C2, as in two octaves below middle C. It's the bottom of my range, so it's not always reliable, but I have sung it several times in performance, so it's reliable enough.

Thank you Kalin! I give all credit to God for this unique voice He gave me. My voice dropped at the age of 12 and has been deep and rich ever since. At 27, I had my first voice lesson as a Voice major in college. That lasted for 2 years. I'm 50 now and have always taken pretty good care of my voice. Never been a smoker and I refrain from hanging out in bad atmosphere areas i.e. clubs, campfires, smokers, harsh weather, etc..

James Ruch Nonsense. There is no such thing as a 10 octave voice. A piano has 8 octaves. Good basses have typically 2 to 2.5 octaves. Where do you people get this stuff? Do you read it somewhere or just make it up?

The guy who has the world's largest vocal range, Tim Storms, has a vocal range including his fry range (a note as this man states isn't really singing, he can just hit the note), His singing voice, which is usually a 2-3 octave range for normal people depends on there vocal exercising, falsetto, that can range possibly up to three octaves, probably more, and his whistle register, which is a tad hard for normal people to use. so yeah.
Reference: A friend of mine's cousin's married to Tim Storms. Thought that was pretty cool.
That F1 is so clean! I love seeing other really low basses but I get jealous when they have just a few notes below me (bottoming our at a g#1 on a good day and consistently having a b flat 1)

George Bakewell I'm a tenor, but for some reason I speak in the bottom of my range (generally around E2, my lowest chest note being a strained C2). I dont know why that is.
George Bakewell nope, I checked with tuner. I am a dramatic tenor though, so by definition I have a solid low range. But the thing is that even though I speak in that range, when I sing it it does not sound resonant at all.

Outstanding, Mr holloway, I'm a basso profundo myself but at the time I'm just 24, and my lowest steady note was somewhere between F#1 & G1(no fry) , but not having enough power as it still needs time to develop and I'm too young for that, while your F1 is as strong as my B1, I can eaisly tell you can go much lower, maybe at least D#1,

You said everything I like to hear from young basses. Your bass isn't developed enough to sound like me at your age. You can't skip the necessary ingredients of time and experience. But I see so many young voices trying to.
Keep singing and taking care of your instrument. Develop good breathing techniques and gradually expand your diaphragm while gently pushing the boundaries of your range. Do that, and you'll be pleasantly surprised in the next 10-20yrs. 👊🏾
@@thatbassvoice Accually yeah it needs at least 10-20 years for my voice to completely develop, I hit G1 with around 50% power of my G2, but I can't sing below B1.to go lower than B1 I must hit the notes from B1 and gradually come down to G1 like the rach challenge, and I can't do a G1 or A1 with the first note I try.I didn't do much practice and I have started practicing recently

also...TIm Storms is perhaps the worst "bass" singer I have ever heard. the inaudible , pitchless frying he does(so well) is not music. is not singing. Look up Tim Riley "Ezekiel Saw that WHeel" and see what a real bass does. Storms is a party trick. theres no power, no finesse. just a gag.
Very astounding. I'm in my high school's choir, and so far my vocal range is G2-E5. My teacher has always been saying that I am the 'true bass' out of the group. Someday, I hope to work on my ranges and get to the range you are at today. A true basso profondo range is incredible.

I am currently in my third year of high school. All throughout middle and my first year of high school I have had a very high pitched voice. I sang a tenor 1 up until my third year of high school. However, last year my voice began to drop alarmingly quickly. I still sang tenor 1, although the most of it was in falsetto. This really built up power in my falsetto, which currently can go up to a C6, D6 on a good day. During last year, my voice continued to drop, and I am currently a tenor 2, able to sing a C2, which is lower than any of the bass 2's in my choir. My chest voice can barely go above a D4. It's gotten to the point where my choral director is going to retest everyone to move me from being a tenor 2 to a bass 2. I hope that one day my voice can go as low as yours can, and as powerfully. That was a very impressive show you gave, and I hope to one day match that. Your timbre is wonderful, and your range incredible. One quick question: What kind of training would you suggest to help me develop my voice on notes this low, and how could I also develop my falsetto to not sound airy?

Sounds like puberty hit you a little late but none the less...take time learning your new voice and it's limits. Hahah, this is so cool. Did my best to follow along with the help of an app. My normal speaking voice is about E2. I can go a little lower but it starts to sound like an idle motor for some reason. The control you have the entire way is mesmerizing... My brain hasn't figured out the difference between "loud" and "pitch" for some reason. I got stuck after about A3 hahah -- "Your average shower singer" -- impressively done man :).

The subrange B1-E4 sounds very nice, round and well-projected. I suspect that above and below this is more marginal in terms of musical usefulness. A nice lyric voice. I agree that it is most important what notes can be projected well rather than merely what pitches can be emitted (some man produced a 44KHz tone in whistle register, but that is not a musical feat!)

WOW !!! I am a Preacher/bass singer (Gospel music), and I sure wish I had that resonance from the Pulpit !!! No more dozing mid-sermon ! Seriously...the F1 I am close to @ G#1 (I only count singable notes...no growls or screeches), but the resonance makes your F1 sound incredible, and....what really got me was the high end! I am 3 octaves and a note, but WOW....4 octaves.....incredible !!! Now I want to (must) hear you sing !
