    I just picked up an 06 4Runner w/ 4.7L. I’m liking your take on getting the 255 tires. First thing is a new timing belt for our 06 though, like 125k and 12 years on its belt!
    06 needs new wheels too, so I was considering getting Methods (w/ bead grip) and zero offset for added upper control arm clearance for more snow chain room.
    I liked the bumper you put on your 4Runner too.
    I watched your Bronco story and that really looked like a nightmare!

      Thanks man, I always look to UA-cam for ideas, so I figure passing on my own info may help others, whether they want to go down this route or pick another. So far, I have no issues or problems with the tires, they corner fine, no real difference at all from the 265/70's. Thanks for watching.

    Great info. It's going to be interesting to see if the fuel milage is going to change with the Pizza Cutters? A heavier tire versus stock, but the new 255/80's are narrower, so less resistance between the tires and the road. I just ordered 255/80/17 Falken Wildpeak A/T4W's for my 2024 ORP. I also bought me a set of the TRD-Pro black wheels, which will replace the factory silver wheels. Both styles, the TRD & Silver stock wheel weight is right at 25 pounds each, so the extra weight will solely come from the new tires. My 4Runner will also go to a local suspension shop on 10/15/24 to upgrade the stock suspension over to a Dobinsons IMS with UCA lift kit. I'm planning on raising the rear by 1" and the front by 2.5". I'm going to have the new tires & wheels installed next week, before the lift kit installation, so I'm really hoping that the Falken tires will also have no issues with rubbing.

      I’m doing exact same to my 23 ORP, except planning 2/1” IMS lift and try to keep my stock UCA. Anxious to hear how yours go, looking @ same A/T4W too

      Let me know how your set up works out. I thin kthere has been a small decrease in the mileage, slight, btu nonetheless there. Of course technically, I'm getting more mileage since the tires roll less per mile you could say, but overall, I think we all know, we give up in some areas to gain in others. Thanks for watching.

      @@MyCarsandProjects Quick update on my Falken 255/80/17 / suspension installation. The Falken 255/80/17' A/T4W's did rub in the front, pretty much all the way around the wheel well , on my 24 ORP. I pulled the mud flaps back by about 3/8" to 1/2", which took care of the tires rubbing on the mud flap issue. However, the tires were also rubbing in the front on both the inner wheel wells, and the outer fender on the driver side. Rubbing was minor, unless when backing up, which made the front driver side tire rub hard enough on the lower outer fender that it stripped the paint off by approximately 1/4" x 5" from the fender at the very lower fender area.
      I then had the Dobinsons IMS 2 1/2" front (with the Dobinsons UCA) and 1 1/2" rear lift suspension installed, which made the tires now clear (with room to spare) all the way around. I don't think that the fuel milage changes much, if any. I mostly drive on back country roads or in city traffic, so lots of slower speeds with stop and go driving, and the truck still gets between 15-16 mpg in the city, 15-18mpg on the country roads, and the best I saw on the highway was between 19-21mpg. So all in all, not too bad.
      A little side note on the suspension lift lights... I'm 6'1" & 233 lbs, and I assumed that lifting the truck by 2 1/2" in the front and 1 1'2" in the back wasn't a big thing.... But adding the new tires added another 3/4" to the heights of the truck, so I really added 3 1/4" in the front and 2 1/4" in the rear. So me getting in and out of my 4Runner now is not that easy anymore.... :) There is no way that I could get into my truck now without the side-step board.

      @@Medicandy That's interesting about the rubbing since we have the same size, but they are different brands. I did have to pin my inner fender liners up front to match the outer liner, that gave me the clearance I needed. All I have is a 2" level kit up front, nothing else. And at 5'10", I have to kind of hop into the truck, as all I have are rock rails which don't make very good steps. I will be doing some lift at some point in time, but it will be mild compared to many. I did lose about a 1-1.5 mpg on my ride, but that is also with more weight from the skids, winch and rock rails, so I don't feel too bad about it. Thanks for your update, I always like to hear what works and what doesn't from other folks.

    Man, Hardrock used to be a moto and mtb riding area, back in the early 2000s. Now it's a 4x4 park, cool. Fellow underground 4runner owner here, but I'm I Colorado now.

    • @MyCarsandProjects
      @MyCarsandProjects  4 місяці тому +2

      I didn't know it was a MTB park at one time, but they had Reddick back in the mid-2000's north of there that was a great MTB park, but it was private and eventually sold, bummer too, it was $1 a day to get in, and just a little over an hour from my house. Hardrock has now been closed since Hurricane Debby, I am hoping it will get some maintenance and re-open. Actually thinking of trying to organize a maintenance day if we have to. Of course, it's $40 per vehicle entry fee, so I kind of think that should be good enough money for them to spend on maintaining it as well, but you know Florida doesn't have a lot fo good ORP's so we gotta keep what we do have. Colorado must be beautiful, I'd love to take my 4Runner out there some time. Thanks for watching.

    Considering this exact tire for a 2022 ORP with a westcott lift (I believe 3" front, 1.25" back). Really interested in rubbing off road and what might have to be 'fixed'.

      So I did a follow-up video, where I pinned the inner liners closer to the front. There was some minor rubbing when I had the wheels turned all the way to lock and when I went in reverse. Now, there is now rubbing at all. And I didn't cut or even use a heat gun. In fact, as I explain in the second video, I really just pinned the inner liner to the outside fender, which is where I think it should have been all along, so it even looks better IMHO. Thanks for watching.

    Is that a Victory 4x4 bumper you have? I’m interested in adding same to my 4Runner. Any interference with Toyota Safety Sensor on grill? TSS still functions properly?

      You're very welcome, I always go to UA-cam to see what others do. There were a few people talking about this, but one guy had a 2.5" lift and some others talked about it general terms, but figured people might find more specific information handy. I hope it helps. I do agree with most people that wide tires look cool, but I've always been a form follows function guy, so had to chech this combo out. Thanks for watching.

      Nice set up and great video. Was wondering what leveling kit you used, do you have aftermarket UCA’s, did the alignment shop add caster to keep from rubbing and did you do anything to the rear suspension? Lots of questions but appreciate your response.

    • @MyCarsandProjects
      @MyCarsandProjects  4 місяці тому +1

      @@jbt7115 MotoFab level kit. It being just 2", didn't require a aftermarket UCA, those are usually required for 2.5" and up based on my intel. The lift has no impact, good or bad on the rubbing. Rubbing is a result of wheel off set and tire width. Since I stayed with the factory off set and the more narrow tires, I was able to avoid the rubbing. You could put these tires on even if it didn't have the 2" level kit. Now I will likely heat gun the liner because I think there is a possibility of rubbing once I'm off road and putting the suspension through some real work. But street wise it's all good. Thanks for watching.

      @@MyCarsandProjects thanks for the info. Eventually that will be my set up. So rear is still all stock?

    • @MyCarsandProjects
      @MyCarsandProjects  4 місяці тому +1

      @@jbt7115 Rear is totally stock and I just ordered a 5th tires and bought a TRD Off Road spare rim so I can do a 5 tire rotation. Saw a video where a guy fit the 255/80 in the spot without issue. Also, this allows having the same tire pattern and capability on and off road and while I pay 25% more for tires, I will also get 25% more life out of them...in theory. Plus if I decide to change size or change thread pattern or whatever, the spare will always match.

    Are these tires snow rated.

    • @MyCarsandProjects
      @MyCarsandProjects  2 місяці тому

      The winter/snow rating on Tirerack.com shows a 7.6, so that seems good. But I live in Florida, so snow is not something I would contend with. Sweet thanks for the great info. Have you gone wheeling with it yet to see if it rubs?

    • @MyCarsandProjects
      @MyCarsandProjects  3 місяці тому

      No serious off roading, was headed down to a great off road park semi local in Ocala and it was shut down because of Hurricane Debby, will go out soon. I did catch a small rub in reverse on the liner I think, I will try to heat gun the liner and do an update video. It seemed before there was no rub, but it could be if the elevation is off or if I spin around in reverse, it seems to happen. Thanks for watching.

      Thanks for posting, it's good to see the clearancs. I'm considering the size for my 2013, though I'm looking at the Toyo AT3 since it's only 50 lb. Obviously the acceleration was affected a little bit, but did you notice the big hit in fuel mileage? Also, great looking 4Runner, I absolutely love that underground color.

    • @MyCarsandProjects
      @MyCarsandProjects  3 місяці тому +1

      @@trailrunnah8886 The mileage, not sure yet, but I think it will be similar. If I do go bigger at some point in tires 255/85's which are 34.6", I think regearing would become necessary. Watch my follow up video, there was some minor rubbing, but I didn't heat gun or trim the liners, I simply pinned them in a slightly different location and it actually looks better I think. Thanks again for watching.
