I think that this was one of the very first absolutes I bought. It's a very appropriate read at the minute with the way things have been going on in the world and, rightly so a masterpiece. Thanks as always for a great video.

This title will always have a special place in my collection...the first 3 comic/graphic novel i ever owned with 'watchmen' n 'the dark knight returns" which started this passion and hobby! Up there with one of d best of Moore's work. Great vid Chris, cheers mate!

One of my favourite characters and favourite stories, Warrior Magazine was great. I wish DC would release this as a deluxe edition in black & white because thats how I read it originally, it looks weird to me in colour.

Sounds great. Looks great. Very deep but it's Alan Moore after all. I've been eyeing it up and checking prices. Once it hits something I'm happy with, I'm snapping it up.

I was waiting for this episode since you had a day-and-date-delivery promise out! Interesting to see that this is your favourite Moore - it packs such a punch even today, and I think the doubt about V being a hero is key there. Him embracing and making seductive what is essentially 'righteous terrorism' is what gives the story its kick, often way more than other 'dystopian facist future' works.
The only thing rereading this work makes me wish for is a little more complexity in the villains. The big bads are almost at SIn City level of caricature, to the point where V is more naturally the guy to root for. If the villains had been a little more 'noble' it would have been a spicy mix indeed, I think!~
Excellent video as always, and I don't think a bumped corner or two is anything to worry about when the quality of what you get, story and production, is so top notch
(still better in black and white though? 😁)

I had to wait till exactly 9pm to unveil the vid! That level of detail is clearly just for me to be the voice of fate 😂 I agree about the bad guys being comical and ridiculous in many ways but the most disturbing part is they are often far too close to life for comfort, so many of those characters and scenarios are reality…apart from the Fate computer loving leader! I love things that make me ponder societal problems in extremes and right or wrong approach’s; there’s nothing worse than finishing a book and not thinking about anything at all. Thanks for watching and I’ll see you Monday!

@@OffMyShelves oh yes, in spite of the smaller nitpicks, I still belive V endures (may we say prevails?) as a powerful work, not least for all the questions it raises!

Good day. It was 1983 when I discovered V for Vendetta and Marvel Man. I was a kid living in small Texas town without a comic shop. I ordered a Warrior Magazine along with Judge Dredd and many other independently published comics I'd read about in comic news magazines. I really had no idea what I was ordering, though, and was lucky to convince my mom to write the check. It was Axel Pressbutton that intrigued me initially, seeing him on a page in the comic magazine. When Warrior arrived I was shocked. It was a black and white anthology and Axel's story was 5 or so pages. Like I said, I had no idea what I was ordering. However, when I turned the pages and saw Marvel Man and V for Vendetta then read the stories, I realized this wasn't Superman or Batman. And when it came to V, it was the issue that had V visiting the doctor from the camp in her bedroom. He gives her a flower and she said, "Are you here to kill me?" "Yes." V responded. And she breaks out in tears and thanks him. What was I reading?! Who were these people? Who was this Alan Moore and David Lloyd (and Alan Davis in Marvel Man)? Needless to say, V for Vendetta and Marvel/Miracle Man remain my favorite Moore books, and when he shortly thereaferter appeared in the pages of Swamp Thing, I knew something special was store for the character and us readers.

I've been meaning to re-read this for a good few years now...I have to say it's the only Moore work I wasn't blown away by.
I remember after reading it being taken back to Thatcher's England, South Yorkshire mid 80's...a miserable time in my young life then...it's screaming for a re-read ( also like Monsters I know what an oppressive read it's going to be and I'm not depressed currently of which I was first reading the two books mentioned...and you don't want to read these two books depressed! )
Moore for me is far and away the finest writer in comic format.

    • @OffMyShelves
      @OffMyShelves  2 роки тому +1

Whenever that re-read comes drop your thoughts here! Even though it’s an apocalyptic alternative future it takes you back to the thatcher period effortlessly even if you didn’t read it in the 80’s. It just has that feel to it. For me it is, as I said in the vid, art that makes me think and think some more. Moore is certainly up there in my eyes too.

@@OffMyShelves I'll be back soon with my re-read opinions.
I've only read it once before, about 5 years ago and it just took me back to a miserable by time in in my life.
That said I'll approach it differently now as I've read quite abit of Moore's work and more so over the last few years I've started collecting graphic novels and I'm loving them.
So many more writers and artists to find.

So I've just finished re-reading V for Vendetta and I have to say I'm gobsmacked that I initially didn't warm to it!
It just goes to show that Art never changes but we do.
What an incredible piece of work.
Once I began reading I couldn't put it down.
Easily up there with the finest pieces of work Moore's produced.
On a sidenote, I'm looking to buy the Incal and the Metabarons by Jow ( I refuse to butcher his name! ) after reading many glowing reviews.
Have you read any of his work?
Not forgetting the incredible art work.

@@geminisundone so glad you enjoyed the read through mate; as you know I agree entirely with all the good things you said about it! I have read, a few times, The Incal, and really enjoy it. Its your crazy sci-fi, anti-hero, crazy macguffin chasing set up but done very well i think. The art is stunning and i have purposefully stayed away from the other incal books because they are not by Moebius and its one of those stories i want to just leave on its own if you know what i mean. I am yet to get round to metabarons but like you have heard good things.

Ah, V For Vendetta, vhat a vorld! This book is one of the very first comics I read, borrowed from a friend, when I picked comics up again as an adult, along with Saga of the Swamp Thing. I really need to go back and read this again because I felt it was a bit too much me when just starting out anew. I have since then acquired the Absolute as well, and it's just been sitting on the shelf, taunting me, telling me I'm a poor excuse of a man and that I don't have the moxie to approach such a book in a deluxe presentation. One day I'll show him... I'll show everyone!
How much of Moore's work do you still have unread? Curious since you mention this as your favorite one!
Anyway, always a bit of great fun having you rave about a book, Chris! Hope you have a great weekend!

Thanks for the kind words and I hope you have had a good weekend too!
