it's honestly pretty shocking how many reactors are dismissive of the thraxans because of their lifespans when that was one of the main reasons Nolan was so dismissive of humans.
@gun506 Especially when everyone who watched episode 8 in season 1 was critiquing him hard for doing half-way the same thing as they're doing to the Thraxxans. Goes to show how many people didn't understand Nolan's whole shtick in episode 8 and just assumed he was a psychopath that loved murder.

I think the bug thing is weird too, but I think I understand why the author did it.
They bugs are there specifically because they only live 1 year. It helps put Mark in a situation where he can empathize with his father.
Omni-man's whole deal was that he and mark will live for thousands of years so none of those people on earth really mattered. Mark is still only like 18 so he has no concept of what that is like. But now he has met a species that only lives for ONE year, and he has lived nearly 20 times their lifespan already even though he isn't even old.
Even you guys reacting to it were trivializing those bug people's lives because they're so short lived saying things like his new wife will only live one year so it doesn't even matter.
I think that is the whole point of the bug people. To give the audience, as well as Mark, some perspective. Omni-Man felt about humans how yall feel about those bugs. Thats why killing them all didn't really matter much.

Steve Yuen really crushed it when it came to delivering those lines as you can feel the rush of emotions in Marks voice, anger, hatred, confusion, betrayal and sadness.

I honestly love Omniman's portrayal. He struggles so much with feelings he's never once experienced his whole life as a Viltrumite under the command of the Empire so he was fighting between loyalty for the cause or the love for his family. He's done messed up things, but you can perfectly understand why.
He does go through a great redemption arc, but at this current point in the comics, and in the show, he’s still mostly a piece of shit. But they give him a lot more depth in the show.
It's almost like he's struggling to turn over a new leaf, which is what was going on.

@rodjacksonx he severely holds back and while Thula is more of an assassin and not raw, brute strength like a lot of the other Viltrumites, the show adaption is why he had a moment of opportunity lol.
Viltrumite Steve Harvey really got his guts spilled out and came back to dropkick Nolan in the spine. At this point, unless they are explicitly said to be dead, I'm gonna assume not a single Viltrumite has died yet, not even what seem to be the mooks here since they were really throwing hands (Grandma was bodying Mark until he had his Superman "Time to cut loose and show how powerful I really am" moment, and even then, he hesitated on the last punch and allowed her to almost kill him)
That said, that just makes me wonder how insane the actual top dogs like the General at the end are going to be lol
The Viltrumites are super OP in the comics. They’re basically Kryptoninans minus the heat vision and other sensory powers. Mark and Nolan both go through some major ass beatings and gruesome injuries later on in the story.
It definitely gets wilder. My advice would be to not assume they are dead until they've been fully dismembered, disintegrated or cremated (even if someone says they are dead since Nolan said Lucan was dead). Remember what Allen survived and then remember the Viltrumites are built different with incredibly advanced technology.

Viltrumites do not form attachments like humans. Nolan is realizing his feelings of attachment for his family for the first time in his life and is struggling with them. He believed he was starting a permanent new life with a new family and took steps to do as much.
As for how Lucan (black Viltrumite) is still alive. Get used to that. Vilrumites and a few others are extremely durable and will not die from simply being impaled or torn apart.
Not just durable, their regen is massively accelerated compared to humans. Unless it's a direct hit to the heart or the head, chances are they could heal given enough time.

@@johnwalker1058 I think so. Viltrumites can heal from almost anything given the time and resources, though they also can't grow or reattach limbs as Deadpool does.
So essentially, your first or final attack need to instantly kill the viltrumite, or they'll heal sooner or later. You can rely on them bleeding out or dying due to some other complications. Only exceptions that I know of consist of mutilating the viltrumite beyond repair, or you severed their leg or arm or something, I'm sure they'd bleed out, since they can't heal a lost limb. Cutting of their oxygen via crushing their throat/lungs might work too,
In the comics Mark pleaded for him to come back to Earth (and them) after the hug and Omniman pretty much said "Mark, I can't go back. Also, I'm thousands of years old. I kinda accepted what I did and moved on." He was a lot more emotional about it in the series than he was in the comics. Also, the tongue action was a lot sloppier 😗

I dont think we are supposed to sympathize with omni man more than the fact that they want us to understand his character more. Yes he slept with another person but its the fact that he was so lost to the point of almost *** that showed he really did care about his family back on earth and was in deep regret which led him to start a new family when he thought all was lost,to try replicating that feeling he had back on earth? Exactly. Nolan is undoing his thousands of years of programing and unshakable loyalty to the viltrum empire. I understand his actions 100%. To Nolan, the catastrophe on Earth was just raising his voice. He had a fight with his son, big deal. In Viltrum standards anyway. Dude almost wiped out a planet as a warning. He literally, doesn't get it.
I'm not sure it's cheating exaclty. Even if they are not officially divorced, the relationship between him and Debbie was done and he knew that. The only reason he gets Mark again is that he needs help defending the people of this planet
Not that he didn't love them, he did. He just probably knew those bridges were burnt and figured neither needed him in their life now.
To me, the bug people were meant to show Nolan mortality as he viewed humans' life spans compared to viltrumites as bugs. But after living with them, he learned to appreciate and respect all lifeforms even if viltrum deemed them lower life forms
don't forget that Viltrumite genes are hella superior making Mark pretty much a full-blooded Viltrumite, this also explains why Nolan's new bug baby looks human but with purple skin, his Viltrumite blood is so potent that it altered his DNA and biology, so that baby will eventually be a full-blooded Viltrumite too and live for thousands of years.
That's right. Most people forget that.
No he wont the reason viltumites are only allowed to mate with similar species is because the viltumite DNA mixes and works better with it so that they do get a full bloded one. But since his mom isnt a genetically similar species he will only be able to be half-viltumite. Thraxan DNA isnt as compatible as human DNA is, that's why he got the purple skin. He is more half viltumite than mark is.

Viltrumites have insane healing factors. Mark took some serious ass beatings last season and survived. Battle Beast literally caved his chest in, and he was up and about within like a week or two. It shouldn't come as much of a surprise that experienced Viltrumites would be able to survive for a while with their entrails hanging out.
I love the way Nolan so clearly misread the situation and was ready to defend himself, only to get hugged.

Remember: Viltrumites live for thousands of years. Nolan's Viltrumite DNA would guarantee that his bug baby would live much longer than the average bug. He likely takes after his dad more than his mom because he has a humanoid body.
Seeing Nolan in conflict with how he genuinely feels vs how he thinks he should feel was something I liked. You saw glimpses of it in season 1 but he was always holding his feelings back.

Nolan is so strong the trio had reverence for him. Nolan is so strong they sent 3 viltrumites to get him. If Nolan wasn't pulling triple duty with fighting, protecting the thraxans, and looking out for Mark he would have savaged those 3.

14:14 This is similar to how Omni-Man said in season 1 after killing the pilot in episode 7. After Mark said: "YOU KILLED HIM!" Nolan answered: "Now or in 50 years what difference does it make?" Then Mark replied "He'd have a life!".
We as humans live so much longer than these bug people that it is comparable to how humans have only bug like lifespans compared to Vultrumites. When you say (as a human): "Why even bother saving these bug people since they would die next week anyway?" then it makes you understand how a Vultrumite feels towards humans. Like these bugs to us humans are just insects, as humans are just "insects" to a Vultrumite.
Exactly. It's a big universe, and the simple fact of the matter is, not everybody is built the same way. Nolan can try to explain it, but Mark won't understand it until he sees everybody that he knows dying of old age while he hasn't changed in the slightest.
This episode is a build up to some insanity i can feel it. So conflicted, cant wait

@@jos-josradvanji6203 I'll have to double check, but I don't think he was in the comic. Instead it was General Greeg, the guy who appeared at the end and gave Mark the ultimatum. But, technically a healthy Viltrumite can regenerate from almost any non fatal injury.

It’s been less than 6 months, the baby just grew that fast because of his Thraxan DNA, his Viltrumire DNA is what slowing his aging

Some interesting bit of trivia. In the comics Donald was already a cyborg/mostly robotic when he was first introduced. Him having “died” in the field was actually just a part of his off-screen backstory that he mentioned one time. So it’s interesting seeing it turned in an actual arc on the show. It’s one of the things that highlights how the original comic was much more irreverent in tone compared to the show, similar to how Mark’s reunion with his dad in the show is (understandably) far more hostile than it was in the comics (the greater sincerity of the show, is part of why I prefer its presentation of the story over the comics).
If it wasn’t clear by Nolan surviving having his back broken, both Lucan (the Steve Harvey-looking Viltrumite) and Thula (the one with the dagger braid-hair) both survived their battle with Nolan as well (despite their grievous injuries). Viltrumites basically need to have their brain or heart be damaged beyond repair to 100% guarantee their death.

I think one of the many spin off comics covered this about Donald. Same with Eve's origin. That wasn't in the original comic it was a spin off that did the origin. Its nice that they're putting on the extra detail for the show.

I like the parallels of Nolan and Debbie showing that both are depressed by everything that’s happened and what Nolan did and the realization that he lost the 2 most important people in his life because of his loyalty to the viltrum empire and how that also impacted Debbie.

This was a crazy episode. I like how Mark was able to hold his own against a Viltrimite but you can still see he was kind of out classed which makes sense. He hasnt really done any training yet and is still growing, also his reaction to seeing his father makes sense. Yeah hes angry at him, but its still his father somone he cares about deeply, so them not fighting it out and hugging was spot on.
It hasn't been 6 months, it's been over a year (there were some timeskips both in comic and show) and the kid grew up at a massively accelerated rate
Is there an indication in the show as i don't read the comics? I thought it was only a couple months max as when Mark tried to rejoin Cecil as a hero he commented its only been a month.

Mauler brothers came full circle. In season 1 the same incident must’ve happened before where a clone knew he was the clone. Cause the mauler brothers were like “ it never works out when its that way” which implies one of the clones killed the original cause of a Simao or situation and then created another clone but set it to where the clone thought it was the original. It’s literally a never ending cycle.
But here the 'original" did not consider that. Could he be a Mauler from another dimension?

To Shira's comment on the Thraxan's lives being not worth saving because its so short - this is in direct comparison to Omni-man's care for humans. Humans live way way shorter in comparison to Viltrumites, so he has little care for us. So now as Mark, if he doesn't care for these bugs because they live such short lives in comparison to him, he is as bad as his father.
Exactly. Nolan was not lying when he said that Debbie turned Earth from a job into a home. He did not intend to become comfortable, but he ended up liking being a superhero and a father. Mark only 18, and he just doesn't have the frame of reference to understand the passage of time. So if he cannot identify with the Thraxans, then he ultimately will feel the same way towards humans, whether he knows it or not.
In the scene where Cecil vanished off of Debbie's couch, it wasn't a hologram. He was really there. Cecil has the technology to teleport himself... He used that in the first season when he faced Omni-Man. He was teleporting around to avoid getting caught if you recall. If it was just a hologram, he wouldn't have to worry about that.
To those wondering, of the five viltrumites that fought none died. They are the definition of build different, not only can they survive injuries of that level they will only need a short amount of time to heal. The three enemies and mark will only need weeks to heal while omni man will need a few months to heal his shattered spine.

If you go back to season 1 and these 4 episodes of season 2 you see glimpses of him almost unleashing his viltrumite side/rage and he either holds back or gets sneaked/knocked out ( examples being battle beast, vs new darkwing and karma police trauma montage). Nobody is ready for the rest of S2 shit is going to be peak.

@@yorozuyanex5625 It's more like unleashing his Human Adrenaline. If you notice Viltrumites almost always fight in a calm and composed manner, with little uncontrollable rage/malice. At best they have a controlled rage going. In the comics, it's hinted that Marks ability to overcome so much is the Adrenaline he gets from his human side.

Viltrumites live thousands of years or longer, so humans who only live ~100 years tops so it doesn't really matter if they die. Especially when you're taught from birth in a conquering empire that you're better than everyone else of course you're gonna look down on others and think their comparably brief lives being ended early doesn't matter. Of course I know that's not an argument you guys are making, but I think it's an interesting parallel that was likely intentionally done by the author.

I love the lore of superhuman biology in this show, some beings are tougher to break than others, immortal could be said to be a timber, strong and hard enough but would still break eventually under the pressure of metals like cast iron (big enough cast iron) that is the viltrumites
Fights between superhumans in this show is likened to that of if a human fought a rhinoceros with bare hands, the human will do no damage and would view the rhino as indestructible but a rhino against another rhino would be completely different and both could kill each other easily than one would assume
It shook me for a bit seeing the seemingly indestructible viltrumites tear each other apart pretty easily but then it made sense anyway because they're of the same caliber in strength and durability so tearing each other apart easily doesn't seem far fetched and it also makes sense why certain weapons like the pointy rock was able to pin lucan coz by analogy an axe can't fall a tree in a childs hand but with an adult it's a different case
Nolan(Omni Man) was a science fiction writer on earth. His books was about all the battles he did. A lot to learn on how they operate.
When Nolan arrived on Earth he was a Viltrumite when he met Debie, Nolan the Viltrumite died and the only one that remained was Omniman and Nolan Grayson
If you pay attention, you'll notice that the chick with the braid was one of the original Viltrumites you saw in the original flashback where Nolan explains what Viltrumites really are. Yes she IS a problem.
As far as why the other Viltrumites were able to keep going. Viltrumites are literally built different. Unless you destroy their heart or brain, it's pretty much impossible to kill them. And unless you literally destroy a part of their body, it will heal (notice that Mark has teeth again despite being waaaaaaay too old to grow new ones like what would happen if a human adult got their teeth knocked out, etc).

Eventually, Mark does earn the title of Invincible, sooner than later, hes just not used to fighting as a virtumite yet. Once he starts embracing his heritage, he becomes a problem for their empire.

Nolan really did love his family he even wanted to take Mark and raise him as a Viltrumite but whenever he woke up to do it he saw Debbie and couldn't do it. He secretly hoped Mark wouldn't get his powers even thou if he didn't they would send a new Viltrumite to take is place and probably kill him. Thula wasn't introduced in the comics till way later so seeing Mark go toe to toe with one of the oldest Viltrumites is impressive
I think a lot of people miss the fact that Nolan was stalling out because Mark didn't have powers. Mark gaining them was a clear signal that he couldn't just stay on the planet any longer without taking it over.
Viltrumites seem really patient when it comes to takeovers, up to a point. It makes sense that they'd give a soldier 20 years (or more) to complete a task, since that's just a drop in the bucket to them. Nolan knew Mark awakening would put the planet under higher scrutiny, though, so he would be forced to take action.

Like he said, "Sloppy, subpar work" is what they start putting out when they know which is which.

We’ve seen the Big C multiple times throughout the series, but it would be nice to get a formal introduction.
Depending on how they shuffle the story it will either be the finale of this season or the early focus of the next.
