Just amazing Scott. I like how much of this "Big Sky Country" you pack into that lens. It helps to keep everything in scale. Great action. Excellent video. I do enjoy watching your videos.
Stunning rail video! Amazing images with Diesel Locomotives in action and heavy grain train! Lovely engines sound, fantastic landscapes and great places! Good work, Scott! I like very much this video! Thumbs Up Greetings & Respects from Romania All the best - Andrew
Scott Hiddelston Thought so. They had a distinct style of plate girders from those on the Milwaukee and GN. Location reminds me of the Adair loop on the Milwaukee.
A great video. A train powered by 8 locos. How many people are on this train? Where is their position? Only at position one, one and two, or one and two and three? Greetings from Germany. Thanks for sharing this impressive pictures.
There are no more than four people on board I would guess. Two up front, (position one) and two more in the blue engines (MRL) in the middle (position 2). The rear engine is run by remote control and is unmanned(3). Those blue engines are helpers only and will be removed from the train at a location a few miles west of this filmed event, after they have finished climbing over the continental divide, which is really close by where this was filmed.
The locos at the front and rear are controlled by the engineer in the lead loco. The mid-train helpers have their own crew and respond to instructions from the engineer in the lead loco.
Dave O'Callaghan That's someone's cabin in there Dave, I think he only uses it for hunting and holidays. I never see anyone there, but occasionally I see things moved around. Nice spot though.
Yes, in summer with a high-clearance vehicle. Any pickup truck or SUV would be fine but it would be iffy with a car. send me a message at shiddelston at gmail dot com and I'll send you a map and directions if you're thinking of going.
So Scott. Is Rail Link a 'short line' contractor specializing in running helpers in the Mullan Pass area or are they owned by UP? Answered my own question . . . www.railwayage.com/index.php/freight/short-lines/railway-ages-2013-regional-railroad-of-the-year-montana-rail-link.html
Scott has the best railroading videos on the internet bar none. Incredible scenic video, as usual. Thanks Scott.

Are all locomotives being controlled by the lead Dash 9?
The locos at the front and rear are controlled by the engineer in the lead loco. The mid-train helpers have their own crew and respond to instructions from the engineer in the lead loco.
