    The SD70ACi bb are meter gauge eight axles locomotives with two four axles articulated trucks for the tight curves of the Brazilian meter gauge railroads. You should check them out on You tube.

  • @SirLANsalot
    @SirLANsalot Рік тому +4

    The thing about the SD70 family is they all are higher HP then their GE versions, and are also heavier making for better Tractive Effort as well. HP is good for speed but means nothing if you can't stick to the rail and that is where weight comes in. Heavier you are, the better you stick to the rail.

      The only EMD units to surpass the C44-9W's,AC4400CW's,and ES44AC's on horsepower are the SD75I's & SD75M's.All other EMD units are just right behind the GE units on power ratings.Also,GE units are far more better when it comes to incredible tractive effort and dynamic braking for serious tonnage.The only advantage most EMD units have is quicker loading traction motors,both DC & AC,and perhaps acceleration even though most don't have instant throttle response like gevos do.Everyone else can also agree that an EMD unit won't catch on fire like a GE unit but that's not doing much.Modern EMD units aren't as great as most of the older units.

    The ten unit SD70M order were part of a UP order that NS was able to get. These were the only new units purchased by NS with a desktop control stand. In the case of NS they were always late to the party behind BNSF and UP when it came to new unit purchases and often got what was left for production availability for that year.

    • @Inferno-hn3zx
      @Inferno-hn3zx 9 місяців тому

      They were late to the party, always, but also the company strategy and planning vision.
      NS stayed loyal to DC traction, and switching from high short hood to low short hood (hi hood SD40-2, B23/30-7, GPs etc; later when other companies switched to wide safety cab, NS sticked to Spartan cab all the way with C40-9 and SD70

      Don't forget about all the rebuild programs they make up for older units or for units that are in storage,even from other railroads,just to cancel the process at some point or sell and put the units back into storage.They only completed 135/240 SD60E rebuilds,52/80 SD70ACC rebuilds,recently reacquired 46 SD70M-2's (Now as SD70ICC's) after having them in storage,and did 110 SD70ACU rebuilds until selling 65 units to PRLX that are being scraped.In all honesty,most of the SD9043MAC's and SD70ACU's already had cracked frames which is why Union Pacific wanted to get rid of the units for dirt cheap.

      NS recently reacquire 46 of their then-former SD70M-2 units earlier this year. I'm thinking it ties in to how much they like the SD70ACE and it's 710 reliability. I hope they rebuild the M-2 units.

    The info is a little inaccurate. Lube oil does not make it way into the exhaust of a 2 stroke diesel. Diesel and gas 2 strokes are completely different and have nowhere near the environmental effects as a gas 2 stroke that uses oil and gas mixture.

    • @billdurant3560

      Came here to say this. 2-stroke diesel intake is forced-induction scavenging with clean, high pressure air. Lube is not mixed with the fuel or intake air. The poorer exhaust quality comes from lower combustion efficiency and a smaller range of acceptable stoichiometry - leading to more NOx and unburnt fuel in the exhaust. A two-stroke at large scale can easily meet Tier 4 exhaust with catalyst and DEF.

    I only know what I know about locomotives because I have followed GM history and learned that GM dominated in just about everything it was into. GM wiped out the competition like Baldwin, Alco, etc but time and politics was not kind. Electromotive, Detriot Diesel, Cleveland Engine, GMC Truck and Coach, Euclid, Terex, and the automotive industry were hated by many for being good and dominating. I am sure that ford fans hated to see GM as the big guy, Bradford Snell hated the Bus and Coach division, ralph nader hated the auto maker, Alco fans and Baldwin fans surely hated EMD, and when the lawsuits finally subsided you now see what government can do to ruin even the biggest giant. Most don't even know that Allison was a division of GM. It is dominant and was the only choice for automatic trannys on heavy vehicles. Many don't know that the RTS bus was developed and first produced by GMC.

      Estoy muy de acuerdo con lo que dices GM ha sido lo más grande que a existido tengo entendido que en sus buenos tiempos GM llegó a fabricarse hasta el 70 por ciento de sus autopartes pero en los 70s y 80s dejó de innovar se por lo menos en la parte de camiones y las locomotoras son muy buenos y si fallaron los SD90 fue porque los lanzaron a la venta muy rápido debieron tomarse un tiempo para probarlos

    There's just something about those engines painted black that makes em look mean lol. I like it. For engine design, these are among my favorite. I'm not a rail fan per say but I do have my particulars. Especially sound of the engine running full tilt.
