Horst: Mmmm... har har... a massive smoky note, cladding your mouth, and then, some spiciness, this hot pepper note, with I think some nutmeg. Ya. Nutmeg perhaps. Cinnamon. Cloves. And... there are the dried fruits. Figs. Dates. Sultanas. Raisins. A little almond. And then there is oak. A little oak in the background. But, oarrrr, a lot of smoke, but ya, behind this are the dried fruits, spices. A big flavor, mouth watering. But no bitterness, no. Ben: Smoky. I like it. And a little sweetness.
Thanks for the terrific review! I just bought a bottle and I am enjoying it. It’s not complex to me, but it’s very nice on my palette. I admit I love a bigger taste of peated smoke! Cheers!
The 2023 is the best so far. But unusually, I found that adding any water to it broke it apart badly. Maybe its the youth of the spirits, but a very very substantial pleasing dram neat.
Water took the quality down for me. On its own it’s very good. I like very complex single malt scotch whiskies and this isn’t complex but it’s the best Big Peat I I have had. In Vancouver it’s $100 and I think it’s worth it. It’s a bit high in cost. Cheers.
i always try a dram with high ABV% neat first and then if it needs water add after that initial taste
Agreed! For this fabulous expression I don’t add water at all. I love it on its own! It’s not bad at all.

I really wish I could get my hands on the 2011 and 2012 , the only ones I'm missing
Hopefully you'll find them! We wish you the best of luck!
@@Whiskycom I'm not very hopeful, seems impossible to find now
"Big Peat The Sofia Edition" - can you give your opinion on this version of "big peat", thank you. Greetings from Bulgaria.
Unfortunately the Big Peat "The Sofia Edition" was only available for the Bulgarian market, so we couldn't get hold of any bottles.
Hm, these Big Peat blenders don't distill their own.
That's why I like Port Charlotte 10.
Independent botllings are often much better than official bottlings, so it's your loss.
For me no proof is too high to at least try. It's all about the individual whisky.
