Excellent approach to ‘dealing’ with freebies Ben. Interesting line up as well. I’m not the biggest fan of regular big peat, but some of their special releases were very good imo. Should be trying more scallywag, apparently. Cheers
I can't remember if I've had the regular big peat or just special releases of it... Maybe it was just less memorable than the special releases! Have tried an age statement Scallywag before too and was keen on that - both very suitable as winter warmers. Cheers Menno 🥃👍
Saw you ace Aquavitae's blind flight on the vPub tonight. You've earned yourself a subscriber, and I look forward to checking out more of your content! Slainte Mhath!
Interesting way of doing the review and rating of donated bottles, didn't see that one coming to be honest 👍 That flavour compass/diagram/map you plot the tasting notes into... it looks quite cool. You may have mentioned it in a previous video (if so please bear with be, I'm new here 😉), but what's it called, and why and when did you take that up?
Seemed better than just bigging them up myself! I like my info-graphics, as I was really getting in to tasting whisky I'd come across a few different flavour wheels but not one that really fit my palate. So i came up with my own. I was reading a book by Charles Maclean at the time so think there's some heavy influence there. Cheers Benny Friis 🥃👍
Very interesting and well presented thank you. Just curious, would you compare the Scallywag to a Glenfarclas or an Aberlour, and maybe an A’bunadh in terms of Sherry influence?
Hmm, I think I'd lean slightly more on the Glenfarclas side of things out of those 2. The last Abunadh I had was quite a sweet sherry affair whereas this one is a bit more mellow. Cheers Michael 👍🥃
hi is that scallywagg winter edition 2021 better than arran n bodega n ledaig rioja? or how would u rank these 3?(i know ledaig does not fit here but my concern s limited ddition i need to buy first)
Interesting lineup. I guess it depends what you're looking for: Fruity sherry - Arran With peat - Ledaig Interesting & less sweet - Scallywag I'd guess the Scallywag has the smallest outrun though. Cheers Sehraj 🥃👍
Great video. If any distillery evey sends me anything, I hope to treat it the same way. Thanks for sharing! I think I should give both of these a try. Cheers!
I've passed up on a couple of offers before, but Douglas Laing is a producer I'm already invested in. I respect their product range so was pretty excited to contacted by them 😁 I was hoping this approach wouldn't be snubbed but the response/stats has been a little cold ☹️ Cheers Jon - hope you're getting good family time this Christmas 🥃👍
I like how you got around the integrity issue by doing blind tasting with your friends. 👏
Any excuse to drink with friends 😉

Haha that was a fun evening! Good dose of luck 😜

Really enjoyed a remarkable regional malt tasting I did, and later on picked up cask strength big peat and a regular scallywag.
There's some great whiskies in the range for sure. The cask strengths tend to be solid for their asking price!

Which Balblair (vintage & age) did you use in the blind tasting?
It was a 2004-2017, 1st release, sherry matured 1 litre bottle. 🥃👍
@@WhiskyGeek Thanks, Ben
