I'm always quite impressed by mods for games not on PC. A long time ago I used to think games were completely impossible to mod on console or emulators besides more basic stuff like framerate, aspect ratio, translation stuff and *ALL THOSE HACKERS ON THE PS3 VERSION OF TRANSFORMERS ROTF* But it is still a lot harder so I am still always quite impressed.
Yeah the extend of my knowledge was always just pokemon rom hacks and I figured they were only as advanced as they are cos pokemon is so widely popular and the games a pretty simple in scope
I remember looking up Luigi's Mansion mods like 8 years ago and couldn't find much aside from warping to the debug map so it's amazing to see how far they've gotten
I love Luigi's Mansion's first game but could sadly never get on with the rest of the series, they changed too much of what made the original so great. It is honestly incredible that the game finally has mods coming out because trust me its not been easy. I don't know all the details but I can tell you even something as simple as viewing the models was difficult for a couple of years because Luigi's Mansion surprisingly uses a unique file format for things like models that no other gamecube game uses so traditional model viewers for the gamecube would not work.
Yeah from what I know of 3 and what I've played of 2 they do seem like pretty different games once you get passed whats seen on face value, luckily I kinda knew that going into 2 and I've been enjoying it for what it isn't instead of being sad about what it isn't (a more faithful sequel I think would be hard to make and sell that didn't feel like a retread, what makes LM1 so special is how unique and experimental it is, a sequel would lose that by virtue of being more of what game before) Didn't know that about the file format but it does make sense with it being a launch game an all, alot of those are kinda all over the place before universal go to standards are set in stone
I actually talked with the dev of this hack on discord and I can tell you the ball room is a recreation of ballroom scene in Disneys haunted mansion ride. Also that first room with the knight statues is a recreation of a room from that old Mickey cartoon “Lonesome Ghosts”.
I’ve played this game twice over on my Mac using dolphin, I thought after completing the hidden mansion was where the first game ended; but I’m so chuffed to hear that this amazingly underrated game had potential beyond what was originally released!! Playing games 20 years after they’ve been released is great, finding some real hidden gems!! Wonderful video, thank you
Hey there! I'm actually working with Lily / Portable Productions on the v2.0 update for Premium Deluxe you mentioned. It's coming along smoothly, and while it doesn't have a set release date yet, you can expect it to release soon-ish™. As a small note, the PAL ghosts being in the normal and hidden mansion was always (to my knowledge) just a side-effect of how the US version of LM works. In LMPD v2.0, it'll work how it does in the PAL version (as long as the difficulty is set to PAL in the options menu). Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on v2.0 if you ever happen to get around to playing it!
Oh hey thats awesome, I know I saw a post pop up in the discord about 2.0 while I was mid way through editing this video and my heart sank thinking I was releasing it at the worst possible time and yeah that makes sense with the US version, since that version doesn't change things up I imagine its not as easy to tell it to do so since you can't use pre existing logic, personally I liked the harder layout but having the option from the get go sounds good Thanks for watching and commenting, I really appricate it! will defo try and check out 2.0 when it drops
I always wanted a LM 1 remake, a version that had the same sort of graphics and a different layout because I completed the mansion and did everything there was to do. Mods really do master that took me ages to realise mods even exist. I really do love seeing a new layout where I have do idea about anything in the mansion
I used to be terrifed of king boom boo in Sonic Adventure 2 (but only after the ghost amy episode of sonic X weirdly) as a kid, I wonder how I would of reacted if I actually played LM back then Also I see you fellow Holo Pfp haver
Personally Luigi's Mansion was one of my favourite childhood games and I still adore it to this day, I waited a very long time for any hacks like these and the fact that I have them is incredible.
All those Silent Hill 2 videos are pretty much children's entertainment compared to the horror that are Luigi's Mansion mods. Cursed stuff there. I would never play it after the sun goes down. I don't want Luigi to point his vacuum at the screen and pull out my soul. Great video for the season! Looking forward to more!!!
@@Kraftium My oldest son brought home a book about haunted prisons last night. I showed him the documentary that was included on the disk from the game The Suffering. It's on UA-cam. Great for getting in the Halloween mood, and that game was really good for how much they accomplished with the hardware limitations of the time.
Luigi's Mansion is my favourite game of all time. I'll occasionally have dreams where I'm playing a scarier version of it. These mods are perfectly in line with it. If Nintendo won't make a darker version, the fans will.
Wow, this is really interesting! I feel so tech unsavy that I never venture into emulation, let alone mods, the only game I've ever emulated is the Mario 64 PC mod that makes it look like the renders in magazines and guides back in the day because that was too good to pass up. This might be the second game/mod I have to try, who knows, maybe this is the start of me getting comfortable with this stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it! I didn't even know modding non PC versions of games were possible until I saw those DBZ Tenkaichi 3 mods which is fascinating. However I did play Luigi's Mansion 3 a few years ago and recall liking it minus that super high difficulty spike that was the final boss. I recently bought Luigi's Mansion 2 HD on Switch and I got to wonder when I'll play it. I mainly bought it because Nintendo Switch is the Nintendo 1st Party machine with occasional indie game with no Playstation version and the occasional 3rd party multiplat that I don't really feel like playing on PS.
I knew there was style switching ad far back as the old DMC3 pc port but I didn't know there was another thats neat to know I'm looking foward to playing the rest of LM2 and later 3, there not something I'm crazy obbessed over but they are quite charming and unique if nothing else
