Official video for "The Great Escape" by Patrick Watson from the album Close to Paradise (2006, Secret City Records).
[lyrics]
Bad day, looking for a way home,
looking for the great escape.
Gets in his car and drives away,
far from all the things that we are.
Puts on a smile and breathes it in
and breathes it out, he says,
bye bye bye to all of the noise.
Oh, he says, bye bye bye to all of the noise.
Doo doo doo doo doo noo noo
Doo doo doo doo doo noo noo noo noo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo noo noo noo
Hey child, things are looking down.
That's okay, you don't need to win anyways.
Don't be afraid, just eat up all the gray
and it will fade all away.
Don't let yourself fall down.
Doo doo doo doo doo noo noo
Doo doo doo doo doo noo noo noo noo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo noo noo noo
Bad day, looking for the great escape.
He says, bad day, looking for the great escape.
On a bad day, looking for the great escape,
the great escape.

You know what.. I believe people with real issues will understand when I say this song should be listened to when, literally, having a bad day. Grab your headphones, close the blinds, and just run this on repeat. The beauty of it helps. It really does.
How ironic...after a bad day, this song is my great escape.
“It’s okay you don’t need to win anyways” is one of the greatest lyrics penned in our lifetime. That is some deep, DEEP metaphysical truth and a harsh but important lesson in everyone’s life.
Hey child, things are looking down that's okay you don't need to win anyways. Don't be afraid just eat up all the grey and it will all fade away. Don't let yourself fall down.
I´m here because Patrick Watson is a fucking musical genius!!!
lyrics:
I discovered this song in 2008 at a perfect time cause I was holding a knife against my chest and then this song popped up randomly on UA-cam, I listened to it broke down and then I replayed it a bunch and now I’m here. You are a freaking hero Patrick! Thanks for the beautiful song!
Whenever I catch myself crawling back to this song I know I've hit my lowest again. It is beautiful, but painful to listen to for me.
11 years later and you are still loved i appreciate you
this song saved my life
Patrick is the most wholesome loving artist to live today 😔
This song really gave me perspective on coming back from depression. "Don't be afraid just eat up all the grey and it will fade away." I was looking for something to bring me back to how I once was, a way out. Yet there is no great great escape, there is no such thing. At least not in the way you might think. The great escape is a long process, not breif. It could be as simple as putting a smile on your face everyday and appreciating all the things you have
There are a few singers/musicians in this world that have this one of a million touch in their voices that just melts you from the inside, and yes Patrick Watson is one of them.
Patrick Watson makes my soul crawl out of it hiding lonely place. :( :)
Patrick is a national treasure! The most exquisite voice
Christopher Paul Colfer truly keeps me alive.
I think "the great escape" is a metaphor for a way out of his struggle with sadness in life
Someone who us Canadians can truly be proud of
Im having shivers too. What a song
Well.. I'm here because my dad recently discovered that I have an unique taste in music, so he gave me some CDs he thought I'd like and Wooden Arms was one of them. And here I am: listening to the other songs Patrick Watson wrote. :)
