Thank you for the love everybody
I don't know how you don't have a single reply, but this is so beautiful man. You should be proud for making something that's helped and touched so many people's hearts through the power of music. I can't wait to see more songs from you!
You are magic Patrick ❤
You are amazing Patrick!
i love this song! i love your music, Patrick ✨
Beatiful song. You can feel it deep in your soul.
In a real world, this is the kind of artist that tops the billboard chats and sells 2 million albums on his first week.
I am so much agreeing with your comment, modern popular music has been degraded to a state that the younger generations have nothing to compare it to, and it definitely IS by design. There is nothing 'organic' about Lady Gaga, et al, nothing at all.
Maybe in your world :)
@@crimsonking7955 *ehhh, every generation says that!!! Popular music is popular & meaningful music is meaningful, don't complicate personal taste with saying ur subjectivity is fact & that money is the standard of success, especially when it comes to art!!!
@@dvo1245 Money is standard in Industry and capitalism.
@@DaBuddyComToX *very true but that isn't the standard in music... The majority of music made makes little to no money & if it does, that doesn't mean the music is better, especially when it comes to art & subjectivity... Some music is made strictly for making money but that is a very small percentage of the overall catalog of music...
I feel like there’s this feeling you get that you only experience when you listen to certain songs.
Your heart starts trembling ever so slightly, you feel tears welling up behind your eyes, your breathing gets just a little slower, and your emotions are so twisted. You’re a combination of inspired, depressed, hopeful, solemn, and calm.
This song does it.
You are absolutely right! I sometimes find myself crying when I listen to his music, just because it is so incredibly beautiful.
So beautifully put. That's the best kind of music. Has the entire universe of emotions in it.
Me its his whole discography
Thank you for putting into words what I was never able to describe myself. :)
cannot swallow now - between the song, and your touching description. All chocked up
Life is full of terrible things but all these feellings, beauty and art make it worth to live.
thx
Thanks
yeah! you just made my night with this... thankssss
This is such a heart warming statement

this song has done more to help me process the loss of my daughter than any traditional therapy has. it so perfectly reflects my grief. “sometimes you got to just” said almost like a whisper and incomplete - because it’s up to us to live what that is. sometimes i got to just let the grief consume me, sometimes i got to just put one foot in front of the other, sometimes i got to just live and hope and rise again.
(((((((hugs))))))) I am so sorry for your loss :'(
@@juliasharp2857 aw, thanks for caring
my condolences to you Beloved 🕊
@@missladyandi thank you 💜
I’m so sorry for your loss. May God rest her soul and ease your pain
There is something in Mr Patrick Watson's songs that makes us addicted.
His poetry makes me listen to his songs 24 hours a day.
Me too, fucking BEAUTIFUL isn't it!
Dimitri Dias LI thought it was just me, lol!😀
Oh yes, big time!
Same here!
Faço minhas as suas palavras 🌧️😭❤️
My dad:Put off that music!
Me:Why?
My dad:We have bigger speakers upstairs
That's sweet. I love this guy.
👌
your dad seems like a swell dude
Tell your daddy that I like him!
Naw, I most of the time hear the some but with different outcome, hahah. It is or too sorrowing or too monotone (which is electronic music) but if he wants to blast music on the JBL EON we must endure. I guess that is just the hierarchy of a household.
But this was very cute to read~
The windows turned to fishbowls
The cities to seas
The cars were drowning underneath your feet
The children were swimming from the top of the trees
Crowds of umbrellas were staring in misbelief
Well mary kept sewing
Holding on to her tv
Even if the water was rising past her knees
Here comes the river
Coming on strong
And you can't keep your head above these troubled waters
Here comes the river
Over the flames
Sometimes you got to burn to keep the storm away
Sometimes
Sometimes you got to just
Nobody told you that it was going to be this hard
Something's been building behind your eyes
You lost what you hold onto
You're losing control
There ain't any words in this world that are going to cure this pain
Sometimes it's going to fall down on your shoulders
But you're going to stand through it all
Here comes the river coming on strong
And you can't keep your head above these troubled waters
Here comes the river over the flames
Sometimes you got to burn to keep the storm away
Sometimes
Sometimes you got to just
Thank you ❤
Thank you so much. 💙💙💙
Hauntingly beautifull...💚
THANK YOU SO MUCH! 🙏
💛
You don’t realize how meaningful it all is until you inadvertently cry at night

Or early in the morning
The day this album came out, and this song played in my work truck, I actually couldn't go into my next call since I began weeping relentlessly. It took me 30 minutes to gather myself and get back to work. That was a first for me. All too powerful!
The Great Escape, Words in the Fire, Man Like You, and now this song all do that to me. I can't go to his concerts now without weeping. haha
All too powerful!
The same here. I just heard it on TV, looked for it and cannot stop crying.
Yea I had to wipe away tears, felt like I could feel it all at once. I'm glad we heard this beautiful song.
Thats the thing about writing of wonderful lyrics/ they grab you by the throat and make you cry/beautiful!

It’s on my bucket list ;-;
Heard this on The Walking Dead: World Beyond and God I'm so glad I did. This is phenomenal. Can't wait to dig into more of your songs.
Gné 🤪🤪🤪🤪
So am i
Me2 👍👍
Me too , it’s not my genre normally but blew me away . Great moment in the episode stopped me in my tracks
Patrick, in case no-one has told you, you are a beautiful soul. 💙
Montreal is beautifully shown here 💫
Thank you Shane, I was wondering where that overlook was. Had I looked more precisely I would have recognized downtown Montréal's shyscrapers.
I miss my pre-covid Montreal. 😢
I migrated to Canada few months back. Prior to that I had my best days in my home country Sri Lanka with my best friends. I met them in my university and we were together for more than 10 years now. We would go out every week, drink and laugh. Had so much fun. I know I would never find such kind of friends in my life and I miss them so so so much and words cant express the loneliness Im feeling. Every time I hear this song, I remember the great times I had back in Sri Lanka with my friends. It’s like a timeline of events that comes into my mind. Its so sad 💔
tears. this is more than a song, this is an experience.
This has to be one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
I was so lucky to see and hear Patrick Watson two nights in a row last December; and both nights, standing in front of the stage listening, I was in tears during this piece, which cuts right to the heart. Anyone who has ever experienced intense sadness, for whatever reason, at some point during their life, will be affected by the tremendous emotion of this song...
I have been enthralled by each and every piece of Patrick Watson’s since he started out. There is truly no other musician remotely like him on earth. This song, along with others on this latest compilation...well, it’s some of the most beautiful and mesmerizing music ever written. May we have the joy of listening to Patrick Watson for decades and decades to come, please!
For those who love Montreal, like I do, the video, too, is exquisite! Montreal is beautiful, and the little dance Patrick Watson does towards the end of the video, well what can I say? It makes me smile (through my damp eyes). : )
Patrick Watson, thank you so, so, so much for making our lives better, every single day, through your music. I hope you realize how important you are, to so many people, and how your writing and singing have even changed our lives. This is heartfelt.
have you also heard the “original” or “draft” version (I think) of this song? it’s really beautiful. you can find it by searching Patrick Watson The Flood :)
❤️
You read my mind. When this came out, strangely here in Australia we were having those devastating fires. I lived in a very English green oasis, but to the north and south the fires were raging. There was smoke in every breath for weeks. We were devastated for the loss of wildlife and this mesmerising, exquisite song just expressed so much of how we were feeling, ironically about a river, flooding. My heart flooded with tears for months. And yet the hope is that it will pass, and it did.☺️
This is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard, I want to dissolve in it, I want to leave this world with this song playing when I eventually leave this difficult but beautiful planet .
Always reminds me of huricaines in Puerto Rico. Such a disaster here...yet people are calmed and have faith, although holding on to their TV's...this songs transmists that feeling when the heavy winds and rain don't stop for several and I mean several hours...and the outside it's floded, rivers out of control and rooftops on the ground...yet, you try to find peace, and this is it.
Thank our Lord you are safe and found tranquility in this amazing song. Sending you hugs and prayers to stay strong.
As an American in the lower 48 Denver Colorado to be exact Patrick Watson’s music is not readily available and I find few who know of him…😢… you Canadians must be so very proud of this musician, this artist, this wonderful human being. God Bless peace and love
Hello dear songwriting guru. This song spoke to the spare spaces in my heart. Thank you kindly for putting this out into the universe. It's become one of my favourite songs. You see, my husband of 36 years has Alzheimer's disease and he is slowly disappearing day by day. If you know this disease, you understand.
Give me a heartbreak so that I can listen to this song on repeat all day.
Heard this and let me tell you, I seen my future self look back at my present self, so as fast as I could, I couldn't stare. I'm not there anymore. If you're feeling all sorts of ways, I'm sorry and you're not alone. We're all going to get through whatever this is and I hope we see better days. Share each and every moment with your loved ones, we need you here with us. I'm very thankful for you. Let's all live for one another and help those in need.
This is so beautiful Patrick. A gift for all those out there struggling to keep their heads above water. Thank you.
OMG!!!! But what is this beautiful song? Je ne peux m'empecher de pleurer chaque fois que je l'écoute ouffffffff .
Bravo Patrick, you'r a really great songwriter , cause you touch my heart and i lose all my sens....love it!!!
I love how this song can be interpreted in so many different ways. For example, it could be talking about a real flood where people evacuate their houses but it could also be talking about a flood of tears, when things get too much and you find yourself not being able to stop crying. As well though, it could mean a metaphorical flood, as if you are drowning in all of your problems and hanging on to the last bit of hope ‘Mary kept sowing, holding on to her TV, even though the water was rising past her knees’. Beautiful song ❤️ Well done Patrick.
Heard this on New Amsterdam. Masterpiece
Thank you, I did not even realise that I had stopped feeling. This woke me up to the beauty of how connected we are, even in our sadness
CANTANTE FANTASTICO ...... LA SUA VOCE E LE SUE NOTE ARRIVANO DIRETTAMENTE AL CUORE .....LO RINGRAZIO DI CUORE❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The happy sad magic that is Patrick Watson....
How does a stranger manage to capture my feelings, my struggle so well..
Cause he's not.....🙏
If you’ve found this, congratulations! One of my favorite musicians of all time. I love when people refer to him as a musical mad scientist. He really is!
Heard this song on The Walking Dead: World's Beyond and fell in love with it instantly.
Same
So did I.
@@williamclark1244 hello fellow william

Tonight in Mexico the episode came out live and I had seen the episode a year ago and it gave me something that I don't know how to say.
Bro...
This man is a genius!
I dream of Montreal. Patrick Watson is a true artist.
Me too 😊
I’m so grateful that pieces of art like this exist
Me too Sarah!
Eines der schönsten und harmonischsten Lieder, die sich mir je erschlossen haben; einfach grandios!
God has given this man something this world has never known... And that's the straight truth
No myth-illogical ‘god’ gave anyone anything. By Divine Nature we may have some gifts; however it’s dedication, hard work, and the desire/will to share, by the individual that is what matters. King Akhenaten was one of the first to believe in a one ‘god’ over many. It was the Sun. ‘Gods’ were created over centuries out of ignorance, by humans trying to explain creation of our AweFully AMazeSing, MagicAll, SenseSationAll, wHOLeY Divine Nature A-Parent…’inside/outside/upside/down’. 💝💗🤗 (sation-an old word meaning to sow/plant).
If at least half of the people living on this planet listened to this kind of music, the world would be a better place.
Patrick is so talented. His music clearly shows he's in touch with his soul. So much love ❤
Well said. 💖
I have been listening this song for the last year, can’t stop doing it, just a mountain of a song ,and ode to the life of a lot of us. Putting such beautiful words and music to people cooping with their own life. So therapeutic, I am crying every time I ear it. Thanks Patrick Watson and your band .
The first time I heard this song, I had my headphones on. I literally sat down on my staircase and got emotional. I rarely get emotional.
I'm in Dominican Republic in vacance ( Samana, Bahia Principe Grand Cayacoa) ....I listened Patrick Watson and life it's so beautiful ! Thank you !❤🎹🤗🎹❤
Chills
In the current COVID context, the lyrics of this magnificent song are almost prescient...
Disturbing... Luckily we have them, these sublime artists! We have more than ever, need them!
Dear artists of all stripes, you have our gratitude.
I think this song can remind us about our vulnerability and how we can embrace it. Many things can be difficult but we can endure it, we can search for support in our beloved ones and rise. We are amazing, we can be so strong even when we feel crumble.
You cannot know how much this song has helped me. It helped me express my grief, my defeat, and then it helped me burn to keep the storm away. Thank you, Patrick.
You were already my "if you could only take one artist to the deserted island..." choice. You didn't have to bring me to tears.
Monsieur, Mesdames, Patrick Watson.
She elegantly moves across the face of the water. With a poise and grace unlike any other. Wild and free she cannot be taken. Wild and free she cannot be tame. A mystery of the air, a light upon the water, a lover's song, a hidden name.
Congrats. I've just added this song to maybe only 10 others that can reduce me to a puddle. I played this for my wife to make sure it wasn't just me and she was crying like a baby, "This is the best song I've heard all year." Gorgeous.
Some people are musicians, but Patrick is something else that is quite simply ineffable, he is clearly tapped into something far beyond the cosmos, and I thank God everyday he is, because his music fills me with something that I simply cannot explain in words, but when it happens, it is an absolutely beautiful thing
✨💖✨
This is real music and talent.
This song has so much in it, one can write a book or a movie just around it...masterpiece
Damn, that's just beautiful. Tears.
I can listen all day Patrick Watson 💙
Thank you. Really thank you so much.
I would like to live as a river flows, carried by the surprise of its own unfolding. Thank you, Patrick Watson.
Me too!
Sounds just like energy for the soul.
I completely get it...I get this whole album. I had my heart torn from my chest over a year ago and it still feels the same...like it was yesterday. Just a few weeks ago, I lost my mom to alcohol...I know exactly from what place of grief he wrote these songs.
I'm so afraid of losing my mom to alcohol is the only thing I have if she leaves she just disappears. I don't think she understands the pain it causes me how easy it can go.
J’ai vu et entendu cette chanson à l’émission En direct de l’univers et je suis tombée en amour avec cette version juste voix et piano. Quelle belle découverte pour moi.
I watched Patrick Watson perform this song with the Quebec Orchestra. Not a single dry eye. This is a masterpiece that's up there with the greats.
I absolutely love this song. Gives me goose bumps and brings tears to my eyes every time. Can't wait to hear it live !
I love PW so much... He's such a great artist, such a genious. This song has been helping me a lot to pass through trouble waters, but here comes the river...
Whoa … what an incredible light in this world ✨
There is something in his melodies that brings tears to my eyes.
Tears of comfort, sadness, joy, in short he knows how to touch me according to how I feel.
Great song! My 3 years old daughter love hearing it before sleeping.
He truly brings people together....
I wish you were here to hear this, miss you always.
What a beautiful man.
The last time I heard Patrick was during his Close to Paradise tour ten years ago. By the sounds of it, he's now found it.
"You're losing control; there ain't any words in this world that's going to cure this pain, sometimes its going to fall down on your shoulders, but you're going stand through it all...but you can't keep you're head above these troubled waters - here comes the river over the flames"
The world seems to have lost this measure of grace, humility and above all joy. So wonderful to hear a song that acknowledges that freedom and joy is found in accepting the world as it comes at us - not in the arrogance of so-called self-empowerment.
A song, as best i can tell, about baptism in the spirit. 3:48 says it all.
Cara, que música incrível!
The most beautiful song I have ever heard.
Also here after watching The World Beyond. It's so rare to have a song and a scene feel like they were meant for one another. It's only the second time I've felt compelled to search for the name of a song after watching a t.v. show (the first was "Do You Feel It?" - Rick & Morty). Well done. It's a great song on its own.
Masterpiece
GRAN COMENTARIO.
🔥awesome- “sometimes…nobody told you it was going to be this hard…
Absolutely stunning, this is pure.
heard this on new amsterdam tonight . amazing . so many wonderful artists that we dont get to hear much of . im now a fan
Every time I listen I cry...
I've been listening closely for the past 8 years now. You, and your band, are truly brilliant and have inspired me multiple times over these years. This song in particular has been on repeat for the last two years and it still gets me everytime. God bless you Patrick 🖤 and thank you for the beautiful music you've given us over the years.
Si l'on pouvait mettre 1000 pouces levés, je le ferais sans hésiter. Quelle chanson splendide. Quel artiste magnifique.

tellement beau comme chanson! Bravo pour l'émotion .Vous êtes inspirant.
Thank you for this beautiful song
~just so moved...at a complete loss for words.
When simple letters build poetry about real life and together with sounds touch the hearts, that's what a good artist can do 👌🏼
This is a beautiful tap on your shoulder that makes you stop, and recognize all the hardships you’ve endured. Profound and emotionally releasing, rivers of tears do flow. Thank you Patrick Watson for this gift💖💖💖
I recognize so many things from my neighborhood in this video. A lot of it was shot in the Plateau Mont Royal and Lachine Canal, both in Montreal. It makes me really emotional and really grateful for living in this city
Omg. I'm f* crying. This is amazing.
patrick a real artist ... a real one!
Thank you. Your music has helped me so much. I’m going through the hardest times of my life rn, and I’m feeling things I’ve never imagine I would, but your music has helped me jut stop. Take a break. And breathe. Thank you Patrick Watson
Magnifique, j'adore, c'est planant..
I just moved to Montreal, and learning this song was one of the experiences that brought me here. It's simply astounding. It has been so healing - I have nothing but gratitude for this amazing expression of what is happening to the earth, our only home - at least, that is how I see the songs meaning. It is a statement about the immensity of what we have done to the earth ("Somethings been building behind your eyes"). To me, a sonic representation of sea-level rise due to climate change, and our fear of truly, deeply, facing it's immensity ("Well Mary kept sewing, holding on to her TV, even if the water was rising past her knees"). Thank you, thank you, thank you for creating such a profound statement. It is this that will cause us to look inward, and become the change that we wish to see in the world. I look forward to playing this song on Mont Royal, when the pianos roll around once more!
❤️ hello, fellow Montrealer. This song and scenery IS magical, n’est- ce pas?
Great song, and video.
This deserved a Juno.
The last 12 months have broken me and this song, and the Walking Dead scene, sums it up in such a perfect way. Melancholic, tired, hopeful, nostalgic. Longing for a better bad time that was no good to begin with but possibly worse than what what is yet to come. Not knowing is the hardest part right now.
I love U, Patrick. The whole world won"t be the same without tour heart
