Thank you for watching and for the comment, much appreciated. Hope it works out for you, I initially didn't have high hopes but it turned out to be a really fun pistol to shoot.
Just installed the red dot and super simple as you showed. I wish the Vortex was a shake awake though, like a Holosun. This is my favorite pistol by far. Incredible trigger.
There are different levels of Loctite or "threadlockers", and you will definitely want to use a removable type. If you use Loctite brand, use #242 blue NOT #271 Red.
Have you tried moving that screw to another spot to see if it "doesn't seat"? If the screw is stripped, Vortex will send you a new one free of charge and pretty quickly. Their warranty and customer service is hard to beat.
@pewpewreview5043 I got it seated. I thought I might have stripped the screw. I stopped once I felt it get tight but it still had some was to go. Rookie mistake lol
@@ThatOkidu3d Very cool. If you used Rocksett or Loctite, they require 24 hours to cure. Might be a good idea to check the screws during the range session to make sure they haven't backed out.
That is a great question. I know I have seen a Holosun mounted directly to a Canik, don't recall which model or of all Caniks have the same mounting pattern in the slide. Regardless it didn't fit correctly, there was space either in front or behind the RMR which puts all the force of recoil solely on the screws risking that they could shear off. I would contact Canik and see if there is one that fits the slide perfectly without a plate.
Hey thanks for the video as I've recently bought a Canik elite combat and pretty much thinking of installing a red dot sight. Does a red dot really take your shooting to the next level? as ive heard you dont miss a shot. How has your experience been with a red dot sight
I think taking it to the next level is really up to the shooter. Just because someone installs a competition trigger, match barrel, compensator, lightened slide, red dot, or a slew of other gadgets, doesn't mean that person is going to outshoot Jerry Miculek using a bone stock Springfield 1911. As for not missing a shot. Some firearms for me are naturally more accurate than others, if that makes sense. There is also the possibility of just having an off-day. A firearm that I shot great groups with one day, may not have the same results the next time I take it to the range, not the gun or ammunition's fault, just an off-day. Concerning my experience with a dot on a pistol, I have shot a few, and this being the first one I own, I do enjoy shooting it quite a bit. As for this particular pistol though, the flared magwell sits a little high for me. I have large hands and it's pretty much at the perfect height to force me to really cram 3 fingers onto the magwell, or two finger it. At some point I may remove the magwell, but at the moment, it's not a priority. I will purchase more firearms and install red dots on them in the future, but I will not limit myself to only purchasing pistols with the sole intention of installing one, nor will I be sending off slides to have them cut. They fit a niche for me, but others may not share the same sentiment. Since you already have a firearm that is optics ready, I would definitely recommend at least giving it a try. You might hate it, but on the other hand, you may absolutely love it. I think I paid around $200 for this optic on Black Friday, so it's not like it was going to break the bank. If you figure out you don't like it, you could always swap it onto a carbine / rifle, or sell / trade, and not lose hardly anything. Or if you can find someone local that will let you shoot theirs to test it out, that would be the cheapest viable option. I'd like to hear your thoughts if you do decide to try one.
Did you use the star washers on all 4 bolts, I saw you used them on the plate screws but wasn't sure if you used them on the screws that hold the Red Dot on ?
Thanks for the question. I only used them on the plate. If washers came with the optic, I would have used them there as well, but since they were only in the kit that came with the pistol, that was the only place I used them. For what it's worth, there was no mentioning of washers in the instruction manual of the optic. As of right now, I've had probably close to 1500 rounds through it, and the optic hasn't shifted or shook loose yet.
Generally I would agree, but I had two base screws break when torqued to 13 or 14 on a different Vortex. Luckily their warranty and service dept is top notch and was able to get replacements delivered within a few days. It would be nice to have specs in the directions, not vague instructions to just "tighten".
Just took the screws out on my TP9 and the plate will not budge. Don’t see anything else that needs to come out, it’s pissing me off. Obviously this is a different gun and my rear sight is mounted separate from the red dot plate so it’s different. But I’m guessing it’s stuck on there and it’s going to be a pain in the ass bc why wouldn’t it be?
As mentioned, I had heard the sight plate can be a real pain. I got a kit for repairing computers that has a lot of different shaped plastic tools like punches and pry bars. You might want to try something like that to tap it loose so it won't mar the finish. I've used those for several things including cleaning tight grooves and firing pin channels in slides etc.
@@pewpewreview5043 I took the slide off and found two holes to put a allen wrench in and punch the plate and knock it off. Once i figured that out it was easy
I just got the Canik rival and it came with 2 pairs of locking nuts would you recommend installing the nuts on the screws that hold the red dot as well? Or should I do it like this video?
I guess it's a matter of preference. For what it's worth, I've put about 1200 rounds through this pistols since installing the red dot, and nothing has come loose yet.

Solid video, sir. Funny enough I have this exact same set up. Mounted the vortex about a year ago. Now, every time I’ve ever taken it to the range, I can’t quite get the dot low enough to co witness. Just wondering if you’ve experienced this?
10-15lbs for tightening the screws. I say 10-15 because not all red dot sights are made of metal. Some are polymer. I personally don’t know if that would crack the polymer.
I'm assuming you mean not to tighten to 10-15 ft lbs as opposed to inch lbs? I would hope that someone doesn't try to tighten rings or mounts to ft lbs, or they are going to be pretty upset at having a lot of broken screws or damaged optic. I think most mounts and rings are generally rated to be torqued to between 13 and 18 inch pounds, but I didn't have my torque driver on hand so just followed the instructions of "tighten firmly" which I think is ridiculous. Unfortunately the Venom does not have the shake awake feature.
