I love the way Madds always gives everything a title the great dinghy rescue adventure....
Your outboard in very shallow water: idle speed forward, then pull that engine UP to “halfway up lock” position. Now your still wet propeller can run in inches deep water AND still have necessary cooling water for the combustion chamber.
Mads, we were anchored nearby there a few months ago with a 47' Cat and the admirals aboard my boat wanted to spend a night with electricity and aircon (our generator had gone out a few days before that) so I radioed to the marina inquiring about a slip. They said they had one and it included all the access you said. They said, "what was the name of your boat? I told them. and one of the last questions I asked was "what is the price?" of which they quoted $10 per foot or $470 per night! So my last words to them were "ohhhh no..." A few days later I went in there for diesel and they wanted me to pay for my unused reservation. I laughed at them. I couldn't believe it.
Haha, that would have been my exact reaction, too! $470 per night is insane!
Cats count as two boats to them, don't they? ;-)
" A great idea with the best of intentions.... what could possibly go wrong?" Love it!
Yatchs in the background, laundry on the lifelines in the foreground, epic!
Everytime when you mention the 7yr refit in the intro, I ask myself where time went by...I still remembering back when you serviced the Refleks oil stove on Obelix...
😱
Have fun and stay safe!
👍👍👍
Same here!
(Has it really been ten years since he started??? I'm feeling old ...)
I've seen Mads almost weekly for years. Yet today my brain had an "aha" moment and went - he has a beard!. Not sure why and it amazes me how strange thoughts can work.
Great episode. You guys are fun to watch. Ava brings a lot of energy to it.
I solo sailed to the same place on Shroud Cay 4 years ago from the Chesapeake. I went through the same river to the east side of the Cay. It was like a dream world. Your video brings back great memories - Thank You!
your solar powered clothes dryer works incredibly well...stay safe
yes, I reiterate, I believe I could hang out with you two!!hahah. so cool and fun😀
Your videos are so fun and enjoyable that they are over in a flash! That’s my only complaint 😂, the time goes by too fast 💨
DIY or travel blog, you guys bring so much joy to a rainy grey (supposed to be) summer's day in Switzerland... thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for your support and kind words! :)
Fantastic camera work. May God bless you.
For very shallow water, tilt the outboard up until the prop is part way out of the water. Just be sure you are still getting cooling water. We did tha all the time in the San Blass islands.
Wow, absolutely beautiful. That is some of the clearest water I have ever seen. 😊
You guys are in the US now but for reference, that little patch of reef to the north provides absolutely no protection for high winds from the north. It was a long rough night with a dozen other boats spending the night playing bumper boats.
Nice scenery to get stuck in. Great video 2x👍
The Greek word 'Artic' means bear and the Greek work 'Antartic' means no bear.
... and there you go.
Awesome :D Noted! Thanks :)
Arctic? The C!
I didn’t know this! Does it mean that I’m now a camel eaten by bear? 😱
Enjoy that water color, you'll see that change long before you spot land in Florida.
Not the "washing machine" I expected. There's another for SCUBA that carries you through a cut near Staniel Cay.
I think that trip into the mangroves would have been idea for Curiosity's OC tender with the electric jet drive. It can get up to plane with two people, can still function in very little water, has no propeller to hit anything and can be charged off their solar. OTOH, they have about 3 kWp on their new boat...
Loved the needing a bigger boat gag😀
I am surprised your motor doesnt have a 'trolling' setting. You should be able to lift the motor so the skeg is in the water but the shaft is on an angle giving you the ability to go shallower and more importantly, not draw in sand and debris from the bottom while in shallow water. Should have a trim pin with three different options for angle selection.
We spent the winter in the Bahamas and the weather was super weird to be sure
I really liked the informal jappering, as a pause from the DIY. You two are funny, and you should show it a bit more, I think. But then I love god ole' jappering. /Catta from Sweden
I'm on a mooring ball in St Augustine maybe I'll see you two soon
This is bizarre, I follow Ryan, Brittany and Jackson (the dog) from Sailing Sunday who are about a week ahead of you. They’ve just posted their adventure in the washing machine. You might bump into them at some point🤣🤣
Hope you had fun with the crossing!... it can get bumpy.
Gulf Stream warning: you also want to wait 48h after strong notherly winds because the Gulf can still be a mess, like it was for us: wonderful south winds but 10-12'waves coming from all over, washing machine effect.
Great video! Visiting late in the season seems to have worked to your advantage…fewer humans.
Nothing will go wrong until the brown stuff hits the fan, just make sure you are standing to one side. I ken you have your eye on the new boat when will you tell all us not sanding fans. HAHAHA.
Hi , always fun to watch , you find some amazing places and lost tenders .😉👍💅
Stay safe and we'll see you next week.
Another great video. We were there a few months ago
Eva you need to give Mads a nice shirt 👔 so he can look as spiffy as the boat 🎉
Seems like Athena got stuck in Port Canaveral.
noticed that also :-)
Great video. Safe sailing ahead
Thank you so much :)
Last year we got charged 5,500 Euros for two nights at a Marina in Bodrum, Turkey. Steep even for us (I work on a 47m yacht)
Great job guys!!!
Hej!
You can click your outboard up at an angle for shallow water- it should have a few notches of inclination no?
cool you're going to nasa houston is fun lol
how did you communicate in case they needed help? VHF?
Evarude... powerful reliable in pinch.
There for a while I thought I was watching the African Queen,
Haha, I totally get that 😂
Good thing there were no leaches when Ava had to pull the dinghy from the water.
Doesn’t that engine have a shallow water setting?
What happened to the E-motor for the dinghy?
green you're clean -white you might- brown brown run a ground ---- keys moto
hooray for the Great Dinghy Rescue of 2024! Spiffy!
It was nice to be able to help out some friendly people and a good adventure :)
Was the a 1 hp Evarude?
Love ava
question , are you using nd filters on your camera , if so what strength for that part of the planet ?
Doesn't the golfstream reache Denmark?
It does.
It's a much different beast when it gets all the way over there. The Atlantic Coast of the USA has a reputation that goes back centuries.
What could possibly go wrong 😱 😂❤🎉
The battlecry of the slightly optimistic adventurer 😂
Liked.
Antarctic means no polar bears
Håll tummarna 😂
And that a reason why white boats need strong rescue colour markings top and bottom, sand or sea spray white boats dissapear at a distance.
In 2020 we were charged a $50 landing fee to tie up the dinghy. But, we were allowed to walk around the island.
😀
Great video . Are you going thru 'Bermuda Triangle' good luck ! are you ready to disappear ?
👍👌❤️🇨🇦, sweet
