  • I’m making old fashioned peach cobbler using canned peaches. I know. Fresh is best but I don’t have access to fresh peaches right now so it’s old fashioned peach cobbler with a butter crust. Watch me make this old fashioned peach cobbler from scratch and your mouth will water. Pegi&Don, well Pegi of Pegi&Don, and I are collaborating on peach cobbler videos. You can check out Pegi’s peach cobbler recipe with this link:

    Peach Cobbler Recipe
    Butter Crust
    2/1/2 cups all purpose flour
    2 Tablespoons sugar
    1 teaspoon salt
2 sticks of unsalted butter (very cold, cut into small cubes)
    6 - 8 Tablespoons ice cold water
    Whisk the dry ingredients together.
Using a pastry cutter or two knives, cut the butter into the flour.
Sprinkle with cold water and work it in to form a soft dough.
Wrap the dough ball in plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
Remove dough when ready. Cut the dough ball in half. Roll out each half to fit your dish.
    Peach cobbler filling
2 29 ounce cans of peaches in heavy syrup
    1 cup granulated sugar
    ½ cup light brown sugar
    2 Tablespoons butter
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1 teaspoon nutmeg
    1 teaspoon lemon juice
Butter a deep dish pie dish or another deep baking dish to bake your cobbler in.
Mix all the ingredients for the peach cobbler filling in a large sauce pan. Give it a good stir.
Cook on medium heat for about 20 minutes or until peaches begin to soften.
    Assembling cobbler
Place one pie crust on the bottom of the baking dish (if you choose to use two crusts). Make sure to bring it up the sides.
Sprinkle the bottom crust with a cinnamon and sugar mixture.
Pour the cobbler filling into the prepared dish.
Place a crust on top of the cobbler. You can place the crust on in one large sheet making sure to prick it in the center or you can cut strips and make a lattice type crust.
    Pinch edges down.
Bake on 350 degree for about 45 minutes.
Remove from oven and let cool. Filling is very hot.
Serve as desired but ice cream on top really works!

I like my peach cobbler with a top and bottom crust with a little dough in the middle AND a big scoop of french vanilla ice cream. DELICIOUS and well worth the extra pounds!! Thanks for explaining the reason for the baking soda in the pan. I was typing the question when you came back and answered it.

Miss Denise Jordan, you are a true master of your craft. You really seem to be a genuine kind of person. I will be watching more of your videos and though I am sure that I will never be able to cook as well as you, I will be trying out some of your recipes. I really like that you take the time to carefully explain each step along the way. Thank you for doing such a fantastic job teaching us how to properly make dish such as this from scratch.

I remember my grandmother making cobblers for the holidays when I was a child. She made them from fresh fruits and make the filling in a bowl
with sugar, cinnamon (for apple or peach) and lemon juice. Then she rolled out her dough in a rectangular shape, spreading the filling along the middle, topping it with pats of butter. Then she rolled the whole thing like a sausage in a big steak pan seam side down. She cut slits along the top, brushed the dough with butter and into the stove it went. They were always juicy and sweet. There were two rolls in that pan. It could serve an army for Thanksgiving!

Whenever peaches are in season I make the cobbler with fresh peaches, it tastes so much better. But out of season I use frozen and it tastes just as good. From time to time I'll use canned especially if on a budget. Peach cobbler must have dessert for any occasion.

    • @homemakingwithdenise
      @homemakingwithdenise  3 роки тому +1

Oooooohhhh. I love the idea of rolling it into a sausage and then putting it in the oven the seam side down. I'll have to try that. It sounds delicious. Did you then get a slice or was it scooped out? I'm really curious how that pice worked.

@@shabrethajennings7291 Hi Shabretha, I like to use fresh when I can but when not in season, I used canned. I'm going to do like Mrs. Russel said this year and freeze some of my own and I will have them ready to go. Like you said...peach cobbler is good anytime.

There's nothing like a homemade butter crust. I usually make four and freeze what I don't use some so that I can have it on hand. I'm definitely trying your recipe. No crust on my cobbler, I use a sugar and oatmeal crumble. I said to myself: Why is she pouring baking soda on the pan? Never heard of that. Thanks so much for the recipe and your delightfulness.

It looks great... I will have to try this. I like two crusts on anything, but I've only made it with a top crust... I have NO problem trying it with two! Thanks for sharing. You are a very pretty lady and nice host.

Hello, my mom had top and bottom crust. Also, dumplings mixed in the cobbler. Delicious.

I only had peach cobble with the crust on top. But I love the way you made your peach cobble so I am open to make peach cobbler your way.

I’m so glad. The only thing missing is my bowl. Hahaha! I love peach cobbler and now is the time to make it. Send me a picture if it’s not all gone. I’d like to share it on my community tab.

Hello. Denise! Your cobbler looks AWESOME! You really get your hands in there for the homemade crust; just like Momma used to. We personally love a lot of juice in our cobbler. Beautiful!

I love a lot of juice so it soaks into the bottom crust and then I have some to soak on the top crust too. Love a juicy cobbler.
