    Thanks to my husband who doesn't like being on camera, but let me film this one :) And also thank you to him for the great freebies I was able to score :) ***please know Izzy was fine, she just wanted more treats 😊 but we wouldn’t given them too her.

    I bought some wire shelf dividers to keep clothes from toppling over. They sell nicer clear acrylic as well. I also use half sized cube storage for pants and sweatpants. I use the file method so you can pull out the box like a drawer and pull out what you want. This has worked great for my teenaged sons.

    Two things I did that got my husband to declutter his clothes:
    1. I decluttered my t-shirts, which were previously folded and stacked in two dresser drawers. I got rid of the ones I needed to (not very many), then folded the rest using the KonMarie method. When finished, two dresser drawers were reduced to one, with a lot of room left over in that one. Then I dragged him in to see it. He liked it and said he should do that, too.
    2. I was sick of hearing him tell me that he needed new socks, when I knew that he had a pretty big sock drawer that was absolutely full. I had kept telling him to get rid of the socks that couldn't be worn, and then we'd get him new ones. He acted like he didn't understand that concept. So one day, I dumped all his socks on the bed and then sorted them into three piles. In good shape, with matched pairs. I folded these in pairs and stacked them neatly. It was not a large pile. In good shape, but I couldn't find the matching sock. There were only a few. The ones with holes, blown elastic, worn thin, etc. This was a big pile. Then I dragged my husband in. He seemed pretty peeved until I said, "all of your socks are here, I haven't gotten rid of anything. But I did sort through them." I explained the piles, and asked him if it was okay to toss out the ones in the big pile with holes and such. He riffled through them before saying yes. I tossed them immediately. Then I asked him if he wanted to do the same with the non-matching ones. He matched up a couple that were "close enough" and said yes to tossing the rest. Then we looked at what was left and discussed which types of socks he needed to buy.
    He has been good about going through his clothes ever since then. I think he just hadn't ever thought about how to declutter his clothes, so he didn't know where to start.

    Jackson represents so many people that simply do not have organization as a hobby but are fairly organized without much effort and April is the embodiment of intentional orgnization and decluttering. It's really nice to see how some simple questions help guide you guys along in this process working together. And of course highest points to Izzy who's just there - on the bed - for the vibes but also to be super (un)helpful by being super in the way of Jackson :D 14/10 best assistant ever🐈‍⬛

    Both of you had things you mentioned only using when you travel (his jacket he wears in Oregon and I think yours was a bag.) I would store those things in your luggage, not in the closet at all. One less thing to have to remember when you're packing - where did I put that thing?

    • @carrie3206
      @carrie3206 8 місяців тому +5

      I love this advice! I was also wondering if someone would remember where they put that jacket if it wasn’t hanging up,
      so putting it in the suitcase is such a brilliant idea!

    • @weeepsalotts723
      @weeepsalotts723 6 місяців тому +1

      I do that with my summer trip items. I go to the same place every year and need specific items that i never use at home so i leave them in my suitcase, if i need the suitcase for a different trip, i leave them in a pile and return them to the suitcase when i am back. It helps me to not forget those special items for the summer trip and keeps them out of my way.

    You 2 look adorable organizing the closet. You are so cute figuring out what to keep and what to get rid of. You made me laugh when you started saying you want to keep this and that. It was so funny after you got rid of so many clothes when you organized your closet. I understand why you wanted to keep those items. Your husband wore them, unconsciously putting them on (besides liking them), which makes you feel much closer than you already are. Very cute.

    This is exactly what happened with my husband when I decided to declutter the spaces in the home that I controlled...he saw how calm and clean those spaces were and decided to do his own spaces. If I had either decluttered his stuff without his permission or nagged him about decluttering his own stuff, he would have braced against it. It had to be his idea.

    yes, of course he agreed if it was quick as men have, in general, a higher degree of attention deficit disorder than women. Does your husband talk to you 90 min a week? I am sure he does not. Experts - Jordan Peterson - clinical psychologist of over 30 yrs says that is necessary for a couple to stay happy.

    I was helping my friend reorganize his drawers and declutter and something that came up while doing it that made me realize i also struggle with is having a really nice piece of clothing from a good brad particularly and saying you want to let go of it. I asked him why he’d want to keep something that didn’t fit him well or it was almost all worn out and he said cause it was still a really good brad and good quality. It made it easier decluttering it if the “nicer” pieces were given to family or friends that would probably fit better on them or be used more often. I totally got his sentiment with knowing there are quality pieces you’d just feel bad about getting rid of vs having it be actually used by someone close and potentially seeing that. Ive been doing the same and it helps with that feeling! :)

    • @njmaryannez
      @njmaryannez 8 місяців тому +13

      Men’s jackets, especially leather and suede ones, are exponentially heavier than women’s versions. And lifting them off from that high rod is harder on your shoulders and back.

    • @yk2471
      @yk2471 8 місяців тому +9

      As other commenter said, jackets can be really heavy and it's also about the position you're lifting from - but also when you have back problems or other health issues, things can be hard to do even if they "objectively" don't seem difficult.
