April you are a genius! Several things clicked with me during this video that have shifted how I’ve been approaching decluttering my space. I’ve had several piles that I just can’t seem to get through because I have some sort of attachment to the things or don’t know what to do with them because they don’t have a space and I can’t create a space for them. Why? Because 8 years ago I had to move back into my family home due to chronic illness. My small household of things had to go into one bedroom and many boxes. At first, it didn’t matter-I was too sick to care about much of anything. Eventually, I was well enough to go through, slowly but surely, the majority of the boxes and piles. But for the last 3 years I’ve been struggling off and on with the last remaining clutter. By nature, I am more of a power-through, declutter-as-you-go type. Having to confine myself to only 45-60 minutes can be very difficult because it feels like I get so little done. I can’t even complete my “small win” tasks. For some reason, this video made two important things shift in my brain. One: make the small wins even smaller. Instead of “clear this pile entirely,” I can change it to “sort this pile.” Then, I can tackle each sorted section individually. Seriously, it felt like a literal lightbulb went off in my brain. Two, it’s okay to sort the things I’m attached to and set them aside to declutter later. Doing it in one go has proved too difficult, and I didn’t want to admit “defeat.” But maybe those are just battles for another day. For now, I can put those things back into boxes and declutter them later. That would really, really decrease the feeling of overwhelm and intimidation. I already go through my keepsake box once a year with no trouble. This other items can have a similar role-in a box for now, and I can go through the box every now and then and declutter. A very long message, but I just can’t help but write it all out and thank you so much for this video. I’ve been trying to make myself declutter those piles I have instead of simply accepting where I am in life right now. And the piles make me so stressed! It may seem obvious now, but the idea of putting them in boxes to sort and prepare for decluttering never crossed my mind. Previously, boxing things up meant failure-boxing things was, to me, just putting the piles out of sight and out of mind. But it isn’t! It’s just letting myself breathe between tasks! I am so excited to start! I know I can finally, finally take care of those piles with this approach. I didn’t see it before because I’m not very much like Tracy generally. But those three piles in my room sure put me in her exact shoes! Watching what you both did in just one hour was so inspiring, since I do not have the capacity to do the all day marathons. Thank you! 😭❤️❤️
Good luck with it!! That’s how I’ve been doing it and for me it can even take years but like April says it’s about building the declutter muscles and with each pass through the same stuff it gets easier to say goodbye to things you never thought you would. And having smaller categories is so helpful and the sorting alone always makes me feel better even if I haven’t yet tossed anything because it’s still a sense of accomplishment that this one big overwhelming pile is now smaller more manageable groups. Hope it goes well for you!!
@@glitzdancer thank you!! I learned with my keepsake box that exact thing-each pass through gets easier. But I never considered applying it to my other piles. I think I was just so, so focused on making myself get rid of things that I turned the task into an unapproachable one. I’m glad to hear that you’ve been able to make progress going slow and small. That gives me hope!
@@marissabulso6439 sometimes the obvious ideas just miss us because we’re so used to seeing everyone do things a certain way! Idk what kind of stuff you still have but when I moved I would start sorting into broad piles like “office”. Then next time when I’d work on it I’d start breaking it down into smaller ones like “paper” and “writing stuff”. Then comes the micro organizing of “important documents” “trash” “mail” etc and “pencils” “pens” “markers” etc. that also helped me keep the overwhelm to a minimum and each time it was easier to go through because the piles were getting smaller. I’m not gonna test all the pens when they’re a big group that’s too much time but when I’m just looking at writing stuff then yeah I can test to make sure they all still work because that’s literally all I’m doing right now. Idk if that helps but with my adhd that’s the best way I’ve found to do it when I move with everything in random boxes and piles
Tracy and April are doing great! I remember when I was helping my mom declutter. She had an enormous amount of nice things. (But she was overwhelmed, understandably). But when I color coded all the shoes or put all the scarves together, then she was able to say "oh I have 18 pairs of beige shoes, now that I see this category put together I'm just going to choose the best ones". She also saw she had 45 blue scarves and realized some were better than others. Categorizing really helps before any declutter, it's true! And my mom would get easily overwhelmed before that and walk away. But this worked best! And somehow she got through her whole house and feels a lot better now. It just takes some faith, time and commitment. :)
I see Tracy growing her organization muscles by leaps & bounds! She KNOWS where her catagories are & ready to put things there immediately now. I am so proud of her & you for helping her. The desk area is looking better!!!❤❤😊😊 You are amazing at helping others do this!!😊❤
I thought about Tracy yesterday and wondered whether we would go back. I think you’re beginning to see a big difference. She may not be getting rid of much but the organisation will be life changing for her and her partner!x
The organization already seems to be helping I mean look at that beautiful closet room!! I’m sure her partner is so happy and proud of her just for getting it organized and building confidence with it all
It's good to see Tracy again. I wondered how she was and if she would be back. I also wanted to say what I like about your channel is the diversity in where people are in being able to let go. It's not that you breeze in and make everything perfect in a week. The truth is it takes a lot of time and hard work.
April, your channel has helped me in thinking of “departments.” I’m a 59-yr-old with ADHD & it has definitely become worse throughout menopause. I also like how you have the reminder at the beginning of your videos for people to be kind. Sharing one’s space like this is very vulnerable.
I love the idea of departments too! I came across this idea with The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, she always said to group everything in their related categories and that way you always know where things are. it's been life changing 😅
April, loved this video. The other day at work I got absolutely overwhelmed by the amount of paperwork and projects that I had spread out all over the room. I heard your voice say “ let’s calm the clutter”. So I took the time to sort it a bit and then I even put a blanket over when I wasn’t working on so I could truly focus in. a few hours later working through some of the stuff under the blanket, I had to calm the clutter again. You helped me a lot that day.
April I just love how you meet people where they are to help contain their space WITHOUT getting rid of all their stuff... just sorting, organizing and decluttering a little as you go. You have such a visible grace as you work with the people :)
Aww, So nice to see Tracey. Love her laughter when she finds something she hadn't seen in a while. her shells in the little change purse. She is such a warm personality.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought to myself while watching this series, “I swear I know her (Tracy) from somewhere.” Kansas girl here and I’m guessing we crossed paths at some point in our small world! Enjoying the series, thanks for sharing!
I was kind of hoping to see the married couple today. But interesting to see the progress for Tracy. It’s amazing to me how much stuff she has as an Expat. I wonder how long she has lived in Korea? If she had to leave she would only be able to take a teeny tiny fraction of the things that she has “collected“ with her. Nice to see her building her decluttering and organizing muscles!
Hooray for Tracy. You have come such a long way. I can see a great change in how quickly you can make decisions now. I am looking forward to seeing you reclaim your space, so that your creative talents have space to thrive. ❤
If I'm being totally honest, watching these videos for me is the BIGGEST teaching tool of how/why to live a minimalist lifestyle. My biggest current thorn r staying on top of papers. I tend to let them pile for a few months & then I spend an entire day clearing them until there completely gone. Luckily I contain them in "1" pile though. IT'S VERY OVERWHELMING! I can't even wrap my head around a WHOLE house...
I have a tip to maybe reduce a bit of it? I try to process my mail daily. I open it, and toss all the trash right into the recycling bin. Then I shred sensitive information. Then I put anything that needs action in a bin on my desk. Whenever I am ready for action, I go to the bin and process the action items. Getting rid of the non action items on a regular basis makes it easier to see there's not a lot to take action on. I do the initial tossing in my kitchen, but a bin in the living room to store the pile might help you to grab a handful to process while you watch TV.
There's a tip i heard a few years ago that can pretty much apply to everything: don't handle things twice. Meaning put things back where they go instead of leaving them scattered (so you don't have to go deal with it later) or in your case, process mail right away (toss junk mail and put away what needs to be actioned) so that you don't have to deal with it later. The idea is to not give your future self work (or as little extra as possible) hope this makes sense!
When it comes to make up, toiletries and medical products, I find these expire much more quickly than people realize. When I was helping my grandmother and parents to go through their homes, we found a lot of expired items. Face creams expire and harden or smell "off". People tend to want to keep these if they were expensive, but even perfume only keeps that great, fresh smell for a few years. I now tend to wear less of a variety of perfumes but am always sure to buy them regularly.
Tracy is the most relatable for me. I have adhd and hoarding tendencies I inherited from my grandma and I’m very much a collector of things that just look pretty and my journey is years in the making. But my organization style is very similar to aprils and now decluttering is so much easier for me I’ve taken it a step at a time and we talk about it with family but clothes with holes or papers and things that years ago I still would have clung to I can now throw away without a second thought. It really is such a steady process and for us who like to collect just organizing it into categories helps just tidy it up and make it easier to come back to after awhile and go through it again. Love these videos so glad I found your channel through Dani’s journey and can’t wait for more!!
I feel like Tracy is feeling more confident in her decluttering and is very particular in how things are organized..... I can envision once the home is more organized she will revisit spaces and get rid of more and more.😊❤❤❤
Cool to start noticing how different brain wiring declutters differently 🤯 Nice to learn the different techniques for different needs so I can help my friends get it done how best for them, rather than trying to impose what works for me 😳 Because once people see your place clearing out & getting all functional, then they want you to come do it. But we got stuck because…different brains & didn’t have the book until now 😢
Wow, she’s really got the- sorting like items together- thing down now! Once she’s done, she can go back and start decluttering at least half of all those items out of her life!! 👏👏👏
Tracy is rocking it. Her clutter threshold or ability to manage a large inventory of belongings is much higher than mine, but it seems she's figuring out the concept of every item has a home and she's so much more decisive with what to keep and what to let go of. ❤
The direction of your channel is brilliant. It’s showing a positive light and sometimes comedic environment to a challenging topic. My belief is because of you. Your calm voice and respect for the guests is infectious.
Love Tracy and Totoro!!! These mid process steps are so important. Once all like items are gathered together, it l is easier to see what to keep and what to let go of.
Well done Tracy, you should be very proud of yourself and it’s great to know that even without April being there you are still able to start to organise and declutter. Keep it up, we are all rooting for you xx. K🇬🇧❤️
Tracy, you are a rockstar!!! I am so excited to see the calm that knowing where things go is giving you. Also, I absolutely love your writing exercise that did your students!
I heard that she rents. Can she put hooks on? If she can, I think they would help a lot because she is a visual person. Also clear bins and BIG labels could help her. Declutering muscles are hard to built up. Doing little by litte frequently helps a lot. She might not be ready emotionally for this kind of marathons. Overall, great work Tracy. Congrats for not giving up.
I love watching Tracy’s progress, and she seems so much more confident and relaxed doing this now. I would love to hear how Tim feels about the progress!
It’s so nice to see Tracy again ❤ I started my Space Maker bingeing with Tracy’s first few episodes and I was hooked It’s so great to see the progress she is making getting her space organised. As a collector and a definite maximalist Tracy’s space is an expression of her, and she is seeming much lighter in her space now it’s declutters 🤩
Hi Tracy and April! The bedroom and closet room are looking great! It is so helpful to put things in departments during the early stages of sorting. It makes it easier when you’re doing your later passes. I’m doing departments by family members as I sort and declutter sentimental items. Thanks April for using the word departments for the rough organizing. That step is fairly easy and it feels like progress even if I’m not totally done. I hope you both have a great day! Thanks for the inspiration! Hugs. 😊🧡🐦
This really shows how having a home for things makes a HUGE difference! I missed Tracy and it's so good to see her back - and see how her in-depth knowledge of everything she owns is really a superpower when it comes to organizing. (I also really love that rug she put down in the closet room and I would love to know where it came from!)
Did such an amazing job!! Sometimes you have to take the baby steps to then be able to take on the bigger tasks. Tracy has made great progress. Very well done! 🎉🎉
Hi APRIL ! I tired your method last 2 days ( I didnt read your book yet but I m w you from the beginning of your journey - first seul home ) soo IT WORKS !! you did it friend ! ... my journey started in 2015. In 10 years I experienced every method. Books & videos & soo many tours of decluttering ( I m 56 yo by the way & my home born in 2000 can you imagine the clutter ? I was very organised hoarder 😂 I guess I was thinking to open a museum of my name & life 😂 ) I m living w my fam in a condo w 4 bedrooms + 2 bathrooms + big living & dining rooms + cuisine + hallway + antree .... while I m getting older it began to be so hard to organize + keep clean home. We are 4 adults ( w my young adult twins ) + 9 cats ( going out & in garden ) ..... wow what a story that I m telling ( I m so excited w your method works amazingly ) ..... so very practical & updated method is yours 😂👏👏👏👏congrats friend ! happy 🌞eclipse fr istanbul
For jewelry and makeup, the clear bins seem like an excellent idea. It's very hard to find anything otherwise I've learned the hard way, unfortunately. If zip cases are being used, those huge make up bags with lots of clear dividers inside really help keep the categories together. It's good to have a small make up bag that you can take on the go with things that are used everyday.
Lovely to see the happy discovery of lost items and momentum at this stage ❤ I got my book last night and already had some insights although I’ve been on a collecting, curating and clutter journey for years now acute after major life transitions, sadness and flux. Life can be traumatic and we need to be patient in the process of healing and finding our way back to order and doings things we’ve been holding back from doing…❤
The white organisor thing could be screwed into a piece of wood that could stand up against the wall and table if need be and Tracy could paint something on the wood piece so it would be more Intune with the rest of the house
@@DVD927 It really helped me to start to let go of things. Every time I do a round I let go of the worst one. Eventually only the ones that shine remains.
I did that with my scarf collection because I never wore them but they were pretty and I started with breaking down only getting rid of two of 100+ and then slowly I would be okay with others and then one day I looked at my remaining 70 and just turned to my brother and said “let’s sell my scarves”. He almost fell from shock but was quickly like yeah sure! 😂
@@glitzdancer Yes, I'm finding the same. I have hoarding disorder and find letting go really hard. But looking at it like a collection allows me to get rid of the trashiest one. And the few that are in the same condition. And then the few just slightly better than that. And suddenly, I'm ready to let go of the whole collection because of all my various collections, this one is not the one.
@@TheJoyFinder yes exactly! I’ve let go of a few collections that even a year ago I thought I’d cling to forever. It’s so helpful to just start small a couple at a time because the more we do it the more we realize it’s not quite as important as we once thought it was. I spent a lot of time with my grandma growing up who also has hoarding tendencies living through the depression and I’m sure I inherited my hold onto it thoughts from her so having the space and time to go through it slowly makes all the difference. The quick loss would break me down especially since I lost a lot of stuff during moves due to improper storage but now it’s so easy to look at things more realistically and say goodbye.
April, after watching Tracy and Dani, and wondering why they still have so many things after purging - do ppl with this habit ever purge more and more over time? Or do most go back to old habits? I don’t save or hold onto anything - and sometimes regret getting rid of something. I did a Swedish death cleaning last year at 69. I’ve missed only a few things but I’m still happy to have empty drawers and closet space. We love sweet Tracy and Dani and applaud their hard work.
I enjoyed this episode a lot. I love April's gentle approach. I know this is what I needed and I love that April meets everybody where they are at. Tracy was charming as usual and also made fast decisions. I am impressed.
Hi, April. Your videos are such fun to watch. And getting to know your clients and watch them grow their declutter muscles is so inspiring. Although I am finished with my major decluttering, and fought through my overwhelm, and have entered the period of routine decluttering passes, I just ordered your book so I could support you. Congratulations for completing such a huge task.
i feel like she would do with a really nice shelf for displaying trinket collections. i’m a minimalist and even have a trinket collection shelf i just limit myself to what fits on it but its nice to look at them then have them in a bunch of boxes
Tracy, thanks for being vulnerable by allowing us to go through this process with you. I can relate to you in many ways. April thanks for sharing your knowlege and experience on how to thouroughly approach and handle the mental aspect as well as the successful organization ideas. You both are keeping me inspired. ❤
It makes me sad that Tracey puts herself down say things like "i'm weird" or "it's another weird thing". TRACY YOU SEE THE BEAUTY IN THE MUNDANE! and that is an incredible thing
I hope at some point she lets go of more stuff. Hopefully she’ll see the difference of keeping things she needs and loves, as to just keeping things ❤️ Can’t wait to watch the end of it. Good job!👏
I like the word bubbles . It reminds me of back in the day when watching pop up videos. This video was very inspiring! looking forward to more videos!!
Really good lesson in sometimes we need to focus on organizing and sorting before we can truly declutter. Hopefully this will help us go back to our sorted categories and purge from there. I just spent two weekends cleaning out my garage. We moved a year ago and got rid of a TON. Like, A TON before our move. But, after our move our garage became our doom room. It felt good to get in there and get it all organized. We got rid of a few more things, but now that everything is organized I feel empowered to get in there at my whim and see if I can declutter even more, one box/category at a time. It feels SO much more manageable. Before it's sorted and organized, it's just too overwhelming.
You can’t collect yourself out of house and home. My suggestion if you love to collect things pick one and continue to curate it. Also I believe in downsizing that if everything is important, then nothing is important. Just my opinion.

I do the initial tossing in my kitchen, but a bin in the living room to store the pile might help you to grab a handful to process while you watch TV.
@renfairegoddess TY so much for the tip at this point I need all the advice I can get 🙏
Also put a recycling bin next to where you process mail and then you can open it and throw it out straight away without going anywhere else :)
YES! Tracy is back 🥳
😝
So happy to hear that it resonates with you 💛
How determined, confident and decisive does Tracy look in this episode!!! 😍
I feel like Tracy is feeling more confident in her decluttering and is very particular in how things are organized..... I can envision once the home is more organized she will revisit spaces and get rid of more and more.😊❤❤❤
Tracy is really getting better at this 😊
Cool to start noticing how different brain wiring declutters differently 🤯 Nice to learn the different techniques for different needs so I can help my friends get it done how best for them, rather than trying to impose what works for me 😳 Because once people see your place clearing out & getting all functional, then they want you to come do it. But we got stuck because…different brains & didn’t have the book until now 😢
Wow, she’s really got the- sorting like items together- thing down now! Once she’s done, she can go back and start decluttering at least half of all those items out of her life!! 👏👏👏
Such a huge difference in the space since the first visit.
Well done April and Tracey 🎉🎉🎉
Tracy, you are a rockstar!!! I am so excited to see the calm that knowing where things go is giving you.
Also, I absolutely love your writing exercise that did your students!
I heard that she rents. Can she put hooks on? If she can, I think they would help a lot because she is a visual person. Also clear bins and BIG labels could help her. Declutering muscles are hard to built up. Doing little by litte frequently helps a lot. She might not be ready emotionally for this kind of marathons. Overall, great work Tracy. Congrats for not giving up.
Rooting for you Tracy! 😊
I love watching Tracy’s progress, and she seems so much more confident and relaxed doing this now. I would love to hear how Tim feels about the progress!
Artists are a special breed of ppl😊
OMG! Tracey is amazing! Powering through her things and making decisions. Looking forward to the next video x
Thank you for sharing all thr nitty gritties. I feel so encouraged and motivated to go thru my stuff
It’s so nice to see Tracy again ❤ I started my Space Maker bingeing with Tracy’s first few episodes and I was hooked
It’s so great to see the progress she is making getting her space organised. As a collector and a definite maximalist Tracy’s space is an expression of her, and she is seeming much lighter in her space now it’s declutters 🤩
Ohhh, how I've missed y'all ❤️
Tracy ❤missed you
Your house is looking amazing 🤩
So glad to have another episode ❤
Well done Tracy. The bedroom is looking great. Having areas for different things is a game changer. Have a great week. Mary, Joes wife 🙇♀️🙇♀️👏👏💪👍🙏💐🐶
Hugs. 😊🧡🐦
Yay we have Tracy again! You made great decisions here and you are reclaiming your home back
This really shows how having a home for things makes a HUGE difference!
I need to clean out my crafting/junk room today & I’m going to run this video as I do it to keep myself motivated
@@DVD927 considering filming it? Craft room declutter and organization has to be my top search term ever. Lol.
Happy to see Tracey again!
Hello again, Tracy! You're doing so amazing now that you have designated places for everything.
So good to see Tracy again! She’s doing great!💪🏼👏🏻😀
Tracy is doing amazing !!
I love that room with the yellow chair..So peaceful!
Lovely to see the happy discovery of lost items and momentum at this stage ❤
I got my book last night and already had some insights although I’ve been on a collecting, curating and clutter journey for years now acute after major life transitions, sadness and flux. Life can be traumatic and we need to be patient in the process of healing and finding our way back to order and doings things we’ve been holding back from doing…❤
So proud to see her progress. I was worried since there hasn’t been a video in a while. It’s looking GREAT!
Great job in just a short time! I look forward to seeing the end result.
Nice work Tracy 🎉 You were fast and determined! Your space is looking better and better with each pass 😊
Wow, it is looking a ton better already. Way to go ladies! ❤
So happy to see again Tracy! 👏👏👏
Great job. Such a great process you girls has made👏
Nice to see Tracy again.
Take care❤
Woohoo! Such amazing process you and Tracy have made. Wonderful.
The white organisor thing could be screwed into a piece of wood that could stand up against the wall and table if need be and Tracy could paint something on the wood piece so it would be more Intune with the rest of the house
The struggle with the doom piles is real! Tracy has great style and it’s great to see her items looking more curated. ❤❤
Tracey…..you should be so bloody proud of yourself! I remember Day 1……such an awesome transformation ❤❤❤❤
💛
Yay I have been waiting for Tracy!!
Tracy, all collections need curating. Get rid of the worst specimen in each collection.
I like this advice. I will remember it for myself
Huge progress Tracy and April the house is night and day better! So happy for you! Keep up the great work!
Thanks so much! 😊
There has been so much progress. Yay!!!
So happy to see Tracy
I enjoyed this episode a lot. I love April's gentle approach. I know this is what I needed and I love that April meets everybody where they are at.
Tracy was charming as usual and also made fast decisions. I am impressed.
Great job Tracy! ❤
As a depressed person I am always happy to see Tracy, she is such a sunshine ☀️ so proud of your progress so far! 🙂
She is ☀️
So excited to see a new April video!! And Tracy, woo!
Her bedroom looks so much nicer without the clothes rails and changed bed placements ❤
She is doing great! ❤
Love it. Happy to see her again
It makes me sad that Tracey puts herself down say things like "i'm weird" or "it's another weird thing". TRACY YOU SEE THE BEAUTY IN THE MUNDANE! and that is an incredible thing
She is a creative person, artist. Yes creative people are unique, extraordinary❤
Great job! You are rocking it!
I hope at some point she lets go of more stuff. Hopefully she’ll see the difference of keeping things she needs and loves, as to just keeping things ❤️ Can’t wait to watch the end of it. Good job!👏
Yayy! I love a Tracy video ❤
🥳👏👏👏Way to go, Tracy!
🎉
I like the word bubbles . It reminds me of back in the day when watching pop up videos. This video was very inspiring! looking forward to more videos!!
Haha, I hear the jingle in my head now 😝
Tracy yay 🎉❤😊
🥳
Everything is looking great
Really good lesson in sometimes we need to focus on organizing and sorting before we can truly declutter.
Good to see you again, Tracy. More wonderful progress. 🎉 Loved your creative class assignment. I bet your students love your class!
From what I’ve heard she’s the school favorite 😜💛
You can’t collect yourself out of house and home. My suggestion if you love to collect things pick one and continue to curate it. Also I believe in downsizing that if everything is important, then nothing is important. Just my opinion.
I can’t collect myself out of my home, you say?
Hold my beer…
Lol!
if that’s an IKEA pegboard, they have adapters now where it will clamp to a counter/desktop
Welcome back Tracy 😍👏
You can buy desk mounts for the peg board, I used them for years when I was renting.
