  • The little scale on most modern more saws is called a vernier scale, and it's one of it’s most useful, but never really talked about features. With the vernier scale, you can position your blade in 1/4-degree increments to either side of any whole degree, allowing for some pretty accurate cuts!

Thank you for explaining that. My after market miter gauge has a vernier scale and I did not know how to use it...until now.

I have two delwalt 2022 Miter saws, both have nothing like this. Did you add that little plastic scale ?

That's pretty cool. My Metabo doesn't have a verneir scale, but if I get a saw with one in the future I'll know how to use it.

My miter saw varies plus or minus 1.5 degrees, without moving.

Another way to demonstrate this: most saws have a hard stop at 22.5deg, so if you engage that 22.5deg stop, the "1/2" on the vernier will land 2deg beyond 22deg...on the 24deg mark.

I'm embarrassed to say that I thought it was just a magnification lens. I've had the same DeWalt miter saw for about 3 years now. LOL
