So so sad.
I'm very sorry for your loss.
My heart goes out to the couple and the kids.
I was waist deep in the water and everything you just described happened to me. I'm in great shape and not a strong swimmer but can tread water in a pool. There was another guy next to me and we both felt that exact feeling and got pulled out about 15 feet. He was calm and saw the fear in my soul. He didn't grab me but told me to lay on my back and don't fight it. I fought it and realized the power of mother nature. Thankfully it stopped because we got the tail end of it. I was in 8+ feet of water and swallowed some water but because he stayed with me, we managed to swim back to shore. I was out of breath coughing the whole time and couldn't swim like I thought I could. Funny now(my situation ) but I can't imagine the fear in that couples eyes taking their last breath.
I am convinced I would have drowned if I didn't have that hero next to me. And remember , I was in waist deep water. Just crazy thinking about it. Be safe everyone.

That's terrifying. Thank God for that guy next to you. Sometimes just having someone to calm you and reassure you that you're ok and what to do can save your life. Panicking would be a bad idea I'm sure 😔
I’m glad you made it ok. We all hear about the right things to do in a rip current, but it’s so easy to let panic take over.
So sad, poor children and parents.
Heartbreaking! We lost my 56 year old brother during quarantine, the ache never goes away.
Parents, now is the time for you to be gentle with yourselves. I am so sorry for your tragic loss❤❤❤
Just heartbreaking... what a huge loss..I'm so sorry.

My heart just hurts for you and your family. Prayers for y'all during this difficult time.
The outgoing water pulls the sand out from under your feet. The incoming water pushes you forward and the outgoing water pushes you back out to sea. It becomes a very strong force that pushes and pulls, tumbling down and up. Very exhausting.
My heart goes out to the couple and the kids.

Happened to me. I felt like I was in a washing machine and out to sea I went. Boyfriend told me to swim diagonally, but the current was way too strong. I spotted a rock jetty, and by the grace of God, I smashed into it. I didn't care about the multiple deep cuts and bruising from the sharp rocks - I was on land, breathing and alive!! We married the next year and 23+ years later!
Ooh, very good description.

So sad!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I consider myself a really strong swimmer I swam on the team in High school grew up in the ocean and have kept swimming ever since. I myself almost drowned 2 years ago in Maui. I went way out in the ocean snorkeling with no fins. I had a bad ear infection got dizzy and tried to lay on my back and relax but I went into panic mode. I suddenly was caught in a current that I wasn’t strong enough to get out of. I had my 2 little boys on the beach waiting for me with my mom but I was too far out and they couldn’t see me! I really thought, I never thought I would die by drowning but I’m not going to make. Thank god I was able to wave down a lady and her daughter on her paddle board, she came out to get me and literally saved my life. She took me all the way into shore and I still couldn’t get my breath back! I will NEVER EVER forget that! No matter how in shape you are Mother Nature is no comparison! I feel so awful for this family! Please be so careful in the Ocean!
Thinking you’d be OK snorkeling w/a bad ear infection was your first mistake.
Going w/o fins, was #2.
Glad you got rescued.
And learned.
I live at the ocean. None of us is any match, regardless of how strong we think we are.
Growing up at the ocean _should_ have taught you that. I rarely swim any distance w/o fins on, snorkeling, or not. I just don’t.
As you know, the extra power they provide can be a lifesaver.
Basic common sense serves ppl well...In all areas of life.
Half a doz ppl were taken by rips, the same week this couple was. All the same, general area w/in a few miles.
A 19 YO lost his life the same day as them, while swimming at the public beach, w/the LGs & red flags. Just up from where this couple was, on a more private beach, w/no guards, flags, or warnings. So they at least were totally unaware of the danger they would be in, by going swimming there.
At least his 2 sons were able to get out of it. Or it would have been a quadruple tragedy. :\
So so sorry!
Prayers for the children!
😢Im so very sorry .Back at end of 80s I got dragged way out at Myrtle Beach I didnt know what ripcurrent was I could swim but could not swim in no matter which way i tried Just when i realized was in big trouble I saw one with red float coming towards me I was way out beach people looked so far away I was assisted back I dont know how we made it back because i couldnt by swimming myself but we did If it hadnt been for that life guard 😢

It doesn't matter how good of a swimmer you are in a rip current.. you need to know how to swim out of them. Heartbreaking.
So sad.
Stay of the water if there is no lifeguard.
Terrible reporting. How did the ( never married) couple have 6 kids but only together 18 months? Sorry they drowned. Tragic.
Easy!
She had 4 from her marriage.
He had 2 from his. Both boys over 18 now.
Hers all younger.
They weren’t married.
OK?
Omg, are you seriously asking this question? How old are you , 12?
Whats with the spate of sweeps into sea about this week, thats four seperate lots of people now ??
I was in a rip current and was miles out into the sea in 30 seconds - I could hardly see the beach. Exhausted from swimming - I somehow made it back. More warning signs and education needed for those who don't know about the ocean -
So sad! That almost happened to me and my son trying to save my sister on vacation in Delaware. We were really lucky to survive. Rip currents are no joke.
She passed away also ?
Yes. 😢🙏🏻
😢
Somebody should start a GO FUND ME, FUNDRAISER FOR THOSE 6 KIDS. VERY SAD. 😢❤ im so sorry for your loss.
So sad 😢 How do you avoid a rip current?? I haven't been to the ocean very often.
You should never enter the water when there red flags, which there were red flags in the water that day. And if you get swept out you’re instructed to not panic and don’t fight-let it take you out and then you will reach a point where you are no longer being swept out and then you swim parallel to shore and then you swim diagonally back in to shore but not directly forward because you don’t want to enter the same rip current. By the grace of God I’ve never experienced this situation myself but this is what experts recommend.
