FIXING THE TAILGATE LAMP FAULT ON THE AUDI A3

  • After my last fault finding video on the A3 didn't exactly go to plan (I failed completely), I had a point to prove when I started to get a number plate light fault on the car...
    I assumed it was just a bulb that was out and would therefore be an easy victory, but the car had other ideas and was determined to make me work for it! So, what was going to be a 'how to replace a bulb' video, became a 'how to repair part of your wiring loom' video instead. Enjoy!

    Excellent Mythical Mark😃👍 !! Congratulations on a great job. I was hoping it was just the license plate bulb that was the problem. You were great at finding the problem in the frayed threads. You soldered them one by one with calm and precision and now the error light does not come on anymore. Great Mark. Good evening, bye 😃👍👍

    Very clean job as usual. Some of those little things can get so annoying over time if not fixed!

      It's most likely a severed wire like I had 🫣

      @@SoloLap long story short a year ago accidentally drilled through the copper in plastic moulding to one of the number plate lights white installing a reverse camera didn’t show a error repaired it . Now showing error shortly after jet washing the Canvas roof . Just check the wires in the rubber tube this morning look worn can see copper not completely.Brocken. Will have a closer look after work .
      I have the same 2.0Tdi
      Not sure what the noise you got other than maybe the water pump , it’s normally replaced the same time as the cam belt . If it was a Vac leak you would notice a turbo under boast because the the. Diversion valve wouldn’t operate and get erred code .

    • @SoloLap
      @SoloLap  Рік тому

      @marksmith8663 the noise was found and fixed at audi in the end...it was an egr gasket but the car also had 2 failed injectors and a new one I'd bought hadn't been coded in!!

      I don't Alexandra, sorry. I just fixed all the wires. You could maybe trace the wire colours if you can see them?

      I don't know what colours go where I'm sorry, I just replaced all of them. If one of your lights doesn't work, just see the colour of that wire and trace it back.

    My right light bulb is forever going out, never the left one. Noticed some rust in the right one so probably going to get LED upgrade mod instead

    • @SoloLap
      @SoloLap  Рік тому

      Is it the bulb mount that's rusting? Can you do anything to stop the water getting in (or if water gets trapped, something to let the water out)?

    • @Paul-pj5sz
      @Paul-pj5sz Рік тому

      @@SoloLap yes that’s exactly what it is, I’ve had my S3 for 5 years now and it’s always the right bulb that goes. I received some upgraded LED ones today so it won’t be possible for them to take water damage as they’re sealed 👌🏻

      Not my way of doing things John. Didn't want the same failure with another wire down the line and quite a few were showing signs of wear 🤦‍♂️ Such a bad design!

      @daviemccarrell2026 it's not difficult to do no, just need some wire, solder, heatshrink and a solder gun
