Gotcha! That jacket will last you forever! In England, they make what's called the "Barbour Waxed jacket" $400+. That's claimed to last 20-30 years. But I believe Carhartt has tougher construction without the wax. Best wishes!
Thanks for the video! getting ready for fall/winter and planing on waxing a jacket that I’ve been wanting to do since last year but never got around to doing it.
Thanks. I did this twice over with a block of paraffin and water beads up and shed right off. I had the paraffin laying around and didn't want to spend $20 on the bar.
If you oil and wax, it could be a candle 🕯 in the winds... lol 😂 stay away from sources of heat and flames 🔥... there are flame retardants, but using approved weather proofing would be safe too.
It isn't fire proof but you'd really have to want to light it. It's far, far more fire resistant than untreated cotton, a material which burns quite readily. It is somewhat counterintuitive that impregnating a flammable material with two other flammable compounds improves its flame retardant properties, agreed, but it is true nonetheless.
Hello ,thanx for the usefull video. I did what you did (with a Otter wax bar) but my jacket feels very sticky now. Anything I can do to improve that? Thanx!
@@MrBaldChronicles. Iam looking at getting the bartlet jacket soon after Christmas gets paid off 😂 and found your coat waxing video very helpful, I will be using all your techniques. Thank you.
For me it’s the look and feel it gives. Has a nice shine. It’s kinda repellent but I just love the feel and white worn shine. I like my stuff old new looking. I’m just different
@@MrBaldChronicles. that's nice I bet it is good for when it rains. I got another question how would you wash a black jacket and a dark brown vest both carhartt but I don't want the color to fade away?
All of mine are large and I'm 6 feet tall 180 pounds fits perfectly with a bit of room. I have a few other fits with the jacket on. Follow me for more gear this winter.
@@MrBaldChronicles. love love love it.... did my dogs carhartt jackets 2.werks likea charm.took time ta git a good layer of wax, rubbed it like crazy then hit it with the wife's hairdryer and vwaalaa.gittin more n doin more.thabks again.
@@MrBaldChronicles. have you made any water proof fire starters? I dipped big pine cones. I also dipped makeup pads in lantern oil then rang them out and then dipped them in wax. The makeup pads burn for 15 minutes. The pine cones are awesome they smell great when being burnt. I used bees wax for the makeup pads and pine cones.
You can and should, it’s a far better method. Beeswax mixed with boiled linseed oil or tung oil will brush on easily, give a more thorough coating and will only require one application.
I agree. I didn’t know how much to use doing it for the first time. Now that I know I would go with melted wax and brushing it in. The black jacket has 5 coats of rubbing on the bar.

Ty for sharing.
Thanks for this video. I want to try in my carhartt
Sure thing man. Let me know how it turns out.

It will feel waxy but if it’s sticky it sounds like you should heat the wax into the jacket more. Let us know what ends up working.
Next time it rains you got to get out there and see how your wax job holds up, that be a cool video.
That would be a cool vid. I started buying Large tall. Fits me better. I gave this jacket to a buddy. I need to wax my new tall coats. That’s an idea.

Right on. I need to wax my Detroit and Bartley coat. I will do that sometime soon and film it. Chat with you later.
So what's the wax for sorry for asking But firt time seeing this and I have a ton of carhartt jackets and coveralls

Thanks. You know I wash in the washer to fade it, but take it to the dry cleaners. That should do the trick
Great video
Thanks Leo
Talking our ear off wasn’t enough this give had to do it twice at the same time lol
How is the jacket now?
Looks great and 10 years old, worn in. I don’t do labor so it’s still new just washed and waxed.
What size Carhartt jackets do you wear?

Does it end up being extra animal hair magnet like?
Nope

Did you try a hair dryer before the heat gun?
No I didn’t. Others say the hair dryer works fine.
@@MrBaldChronicles. right on. Was not pleased with hair dryer results.
@4x4vania I figured it take a lot longer than the heat gun, just didn’t know how much longer. The dryer helps too, but heat gun to melt it in 100%

The fjallraven greenland wax g1000 garments
Mr. Bald ok thanks. Been wearing carhartt work clothes for 40 yrs and never thought of this.
Wow hardvore I'm sure you have a nice collection. Yah it help and I like the look and feel. Its protects the fabric and keeps it clean.
Mr. Bald I wear stuff till I either outgrow it or wear it out. Couldn’t make it without my insulated coveralls and hooded jacket lol.
The hooded jacket sandstone is my favorite piece.
Wich exact model is this jacket?
Sherpa lined sandstone sierra. Carhartt.com or Amazon
Awesome Mr Bald I'm glad I found your channel👍
Hey.. thanks for the love
What brand of wax did you use on this jacket? And can you provide a link for the wax please. Thanks.
FjallRaven. If the link isn’t in this video it should be in a couple of my other wax vids.
Didn't want to make it weird, but I'm gonna. You have orbs flying around you. Blue ones. You must be a good dude.
Cool I'm good with that.
@@MrBaldChronicles. I'm buying the jacket and waxing it. Thanks for the vids
Nice.
I SAW THEM TOO
Yeah!! I was thinking 🤔 WOW!! Is this guy haunted??
Why cant u just melt bars of wax and paint it with a paint brush?
You can but that would be messy and wouldn’t be even. Who knows though, I haven’t tried it. I’m sure it be easier lol.
