My War: Jamie Thomas
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- Even though Jamie already had an untouchable skate legacy and was closing in on 40 years old, he still waged an epic battle for his Cold War ender-a trick that is gnarly by any standard.

Jamie thomas is the father of huge the man the myth the legend i agree skating today isnt like it used to be these guys created everything these guys are doin now ive seen some sick technical shit these days but i want to see some of these new guys go n redo the same gaps n tricks at the same locations jus cause they can manipulate flips in n flips out i dont see anyone doin the shit ive seen jamie thomas doin ive seen a few worthy thats just my opinion weve all got one
"You don't bounce back when you're 40. You just bounce." So true, man. So true.
No you don't, I can also attest for that in person...but you do learn to roll, call on 30 years of balance, be confident in yourself and learn how to cheat your limits.
@@MrJasonodonnell I agree 100% (45 yr old sk8r)
But that one time you roll away.... makes you feel like a kid again.
I'm 41 now, started skating in 85... CAN CONFIRM "bounce back" is no longer an option.
bouncing back is super possible if you incorporate daily exorcize. This comment super discouraging to people trying to skate in their 30s or 40s
His ability to fall safely is incredible
It’s something you pick up, I’ve only been skating two months and so far I’ve sprained my wrist twice 😅 I just haven’t learnt how to fall the right way yet...
Instead I panic and just throw my hands out
My exact thoughts
Takes too much impact on his knees
J Mz do you skate? I warm up bouncing in and out of full squats and take care of my legs and knees constantly. The reason this guy is 40 and still killing it is because he knows what he’s doing.
Read that just when he smashed his face on the ground, lol
Jamie you just put the biggest smile on my face bro! I am 33 and just stepped back on my board after 12 years off! Skating is awesome, you rock dude!
Christopher Matson I'm 36 and man it's a fucking struggle, you may feel like you did but your body sure doesn't work like it did. Respect for getting back into it!!
Mat CYSTM Dude I have no idea what life will be like for me in the next few years but I do hope to be skating no matter what I do. I want to always skate no matter how much pain I am in, the level of happiness skateboarding gives me will always be greater than the pain it causes. Hope I can be that guy at the skatepark who everyone is wondering if I am old enough for each layer of my skateboard to represent ten years of my life haha. seven layers on modern day ones, can't wait to see what the future of skating holds and I always want to be a part of it.
Christopher Matson Anyone the name of the song pls?
Christopher Matson turned 31 today still pushing.
+Christopher Matson 32 and stating skateing again 1 year ago after not doing it for 10 years! im so glad I decided to pick it up again, one of the greatest feelings in life
I get the same feeling from coding... Yeah I live life on the edge baby. That bug wont fix itself.
+I Was Right Once hahah
+I Was Right Once Dude! I have my C++ final tonight and I know what you mean! I can also relate in skateboarding sense except on a much much lower level... Like kick flipping a six stair hahahaha. Jamie Thomas is a legend.
Tony Nguyen don’t know if you still use this account but I hope you passed it,
Pleb 🤣
Code skate 4
Allways had the biggest respect for Jamie. He's so true to skateboarding. I grew up watching the Zero videos and he's absolutly killing it with the brands that he's holding down aswell with Black Box. I allways gets super bummed when their teams is getting smaller and smaller, Mystery dissapearing and shit. People sell out, and teams dissapear. But this dude stays put and keeps going. He is a living legend and a rolemodel that people really should look up to.
kossanflyger You said everything. He's the fucking chief !
kossanflyger chris cole cough cough
kossanflyger It's not just people selling out. Apparently there were some personal conflicts on the business side of things that forced people to leave or something like that.
I'm 27 and sometimes I feel too old to skateboard. I remember watching Jamie Thomas in mislead youth when I was 12. This guy is the definition of a OG.
its like jay adams said-you dont stop skating because you get too old you get old because you stop skating
I'm 27 and same.
31 and I'm back skating again. Age doesn't mean much, I still love it.
Picked up the board last year when I was 28, first time I skated in about 10 years. Broke my wrist the 4th or 5th time at the park.
I'm 35 and have been skating since I was 16. There were times I didn't have fun skating anymore because of injuries, stress and depression. I had to quit skating for 6 months because it wasn't fun for me anymore so that when I come back again, I might have a different feeling and get into it again. It took awhile to find it but it was worth it. I skate way better now in my mid 30s than in my late 20s. You just have to find that drive and always explore which ones will feel as good as when you started skating for the first time. You still have lots of time to skate dude. All you need to do is just go out there and just have fun. Even if you are sore, just go out and cruise around. The little things in skateboarding will always feel good as long as you have a positive mind.
I'm 33 now. I've got more physical and mental ailments than I care to admit. I haven't been able to skate for the last few years as a result. I spent most of last night vomiting. I was literally almost dead of starvation (achalasia) this time last year. Almost all of my sk8 peers have all moved on to other things or places. I'm more likely to just crumble, rather than bounce nowadays. Still, I can't just stop something I did almost every day for nearly two decades.
Fuck that. I'm going skating today. Thanks Chief.
Olysk8er Dude, you've got all my support I hope it all goes well. Never stop stepping on to that piece of wood. Doing something you love... THAT is the best medicine.
E mmmm email
True.
Bless your spirit, man.
Keep killing it dude!
This made me so happy to watch.
Diego Patrick me 2
Diego Patrick Same. It's been a while since I've seen a skateboarding clip that inspired me this much.
Diego Patrick i almost cried

+NebaSoldat pinact - the beginning of the end
until they said it was impossible I thought it was a tre flip
Same
same. it made it a tony hawk pro skater sort of thing after I heard that
same
It was.. He did an impossible after the tre flip
Likewise
Every time I'm scared of a trick or frustruated I watch this video
RomanSkate i usually watch the "Lyon 25" footage with Jaws it is so motivating
Sean Kelley jaws is a bitch that can't do a single trick without grabbing his board mid air. 100% of the time its a melon. 🍉
JT CONNER we get it ...you can't skate
bet you can’t melon a 25 still
@subcomandante marcos jealous much?

@@lhoranjohns1 That shit wasn't out when he made the comment. Nice one, grade school.
wearing the same shirt he wore in thps2
That smile when he lands says it all about skateboarding
He's not wrong about the feeling of rolling away. I didn't impossible 5050 clipper but I remember my first double kickflip. Shit will have you like wow
Fuuuck that was gnarly... he has them tuck and rolls down too good though lol I love the concept of being good at falling.
Skateboarding is amazing
been watching this kid when i first started skating 18 years ago and now that im too busy working to skate as much. such a fuckin legend...
+Clark Kent Make time dude. I'm 44 and have a crazy busy business to run. I as sayin' the same thing awhile back, then I changed my thinking. Make time for yourself, otherwise, why are you working in the first place? ;)
I tore up my knees trying to imitate him.
Next should be josh Katz stop skating without a helmet
Fatal Shroom mike v started wearing a helmet too
inalavalamp yeah buuuuuuttttt Mike V has balls and style, so there's that.
jkuebler89 wait, i'm a little confused. what was fatal shroom's original comment trying to say? i was just saying that i respect mike v for starting to wear a helmet and not caring what people think. who's josh katz?
inalavalamp who's josh Katz? Dude you out of the loop
Who's that guy?
one of the best tricks ever done on clipper for sure
What a badass. Impossible 50-50s are hard af in ledges, now try it down a huge hubba at 40 years old.
You know when you're trying to do homework and youtube keeps auto playing my wars.
Captain Perineum same
Cat Burgerler I ended up doing it in the morning lmao
Captain Perineum lol I didn't even do mine
When you end up working at McDonalds because you neglected your studies.
Just kidding. Learning is important but fuck most schooling. This from a UCLA grad.
Jamie Thomas has more heart than any other skater. Period.
Cardiel might have a slight edge 😉
He was my idol while skating in the 90's I would watch Welcome to Hell over, and over, before skating. And Jamie's part always got me hyped!
Misled youth for me but I know exactly what you mean.
I Personally think his wraps on his impossibles are better looking and cleaner than Dylan Rieder's. They are so textbook perfect Tony Hawk's Pro Skater style.
Nothing beats dylan. His go vertical and like look just stylish
Personally I Think Ed Templeton has the best one. Jamie and Dylan have great ones though. David Gonzales has a really nice one too.
dondiwhite1 i agree Templeton has the best impossibles
technically, rodney mullens impossibles are straight vertical and clean and effortless. but his style isnt the best
PhaseSkater Rodney Mullen invented the Impossible and several other variations of it going all the way back to his early freestyle days. Rodney's Impossibles are second to none, not only because he is the inventor, but he also has maximized the potential for the Impossible. He lands the Impossible every single time without fail in every direction, even on every side of the board. Jamie Thomas has great Impossibles, because he was directly inspired by Rodney and uses some of his technique. Regards- from a freestyle skateboarder
I remember when the fallen crew came by my local when they were making ride the sky Jamie Thomas was there and was so chill gave a lot of people boards only legend I've ever seen in person it was an awesome experience especially all the way here in new Mexico props to this guy for being a pillar in the skate community
I'm 31, have never skated, always wanted too. This gives me hope. haha. Even if all i want is to flat land a kickflip. Big ups to Jamie
Did you start skating? I'm 38 and really would like to learn flatland kickflip before I turn 40. I learned bs pop-shove its this year, and it feels great when I land them.
It amazes me that he got it twice in a row. One of the best tricks done on clipper for sure.
Jamie Thomas was an inspiration to me when I was growing up. Used to play as him on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and used to love watching vids of him, he was a sick skater ever since I was about 7 and Im 27 now lol
Damn! That misfits griptape is sick af!
I would pay to get some of Heath's stories.
I would cry
+Giles when he slammed on the huge ledge he couldnt feel one side of his face for 6 months.
3:30 all Skateboarders know the feeling. "Don't count that, my front truck was off.. Goddamn it!" lol
I think some skateboarders would have been more than happy with this trick and count it as a make. It was pretty close to "good enough", but the next one was simply perfect.
@@ericduminil when fifties make that beautiful noise that's how u know it was perfect
Weird reading comments how I'm not the only one that's got back into skating in my 30's. I quit from boredom and took up surfing. Now surfing is kind of boring and relearning old tricks is fun again
YAAAAAAAAAAS BITCH YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSS
2:29 You can't overstate this concept enough. Age, as much as we all hate to admit it, is our master. Eventually, our bodies simply can't do what we want it to do anymore.
I'm a month away from turning 40, and when I skate (as rarely as I do), I just grind small ledges, and a few flip tricks here and there. At a certain age, you fall once, and your body slowly, yet emphatically tells you, "Don't do whatever the hell that was again."
I love bowl skating, and I hope I'll be able to do it for a loooong time. Any kind of skating is better than no skating at all. So if street skating isn't an option anymore, I'd be more than happy with bowls, slalom or downhill.
BTW, happy birthday?
@@ericduminil Thanks, I just turned 40 yesterday.
Bowls are a good idea, I may have to take you up on that option.
This inspires me so much.. Jamie Thomas was one of my favorite skaters since Tony Hawk Pro Skater came out on playstation. I was always amazed at his video parts and didn't realize how much of an impact he has had on the skateboarding scene. Chris Cole is who he is partially because of Jamie Thomas. I skated from the age of 16-17 really intensly. Then I broke my independent truck and stopped skating.... I went through a lot and my focus was on breakdancing, gymnastics, and martial arts. I then went through a lot of family trauma and traumatic events that made me feel always depressed, really sad, and really alone. A lot of my friends were dying off and people close to me. I was in a bad car accident in 2013 making me think I couldn't do the activities I loved. because of my back being messed up and still to this day is, I couldn't do a lot of things anymore... Once my fiancé and her 2 year old son left me to go back to her ex...I was really lost and in such a dark place, people kept betraying and turning on me or decided substances meant more than people... I was at times feeling suicidal and constantly sad and feeling like nothing brought me joy... I watched motivation 2 with Chris Cole and that made me remember how much I loved skating and wanted to get back into it. its now 2016 and I skate 3-4 hours a dayand wherever I can. Even at almost 32, ive surpassed my expectations of what I could do and am way better than when I was younger. Skateboarding for me saved my life and its what is therapeutic for me. The feeling of riding down hills, landing tricks I couldn't before, and just having my mind be free from any issues im having.. Jamie Thomas was also one of my favorites because he embodies chasing a dream and not to give up and believe in what you can do. Thank you Jamie Thomas for being one of my heroes and inspiring me to try what I never thought I could do. Between practice and other skaters I looked up to (Rodney mullen, Chris Cole, Tony Hawk, Christian Hosoi, Caballero, Andrew Reynolds, Danny Way, Tas Pappas. so many more to list,) I got the fire relit for skating.
+Jt Conner you have issues
keep at it man! dont stop
This is amazing, Jamie is gnar.
***** Its getting annoying seeing this profile. Can you delete yourself?
Mike Cauterucci i think people just need to stop liking/commenting on his comments (kind of hypocritical to say but he has to be ignored).
Jamie Thomas was my favorite skater of all times

It's dope to see what's going on inside their minds mid trick. I love the whole ''My War'' vids, keep them up
Impossible 50-50??? MY GOD.
Down clipper to boot.
@@ricktaylor1437 basically twice in a row. Once "good enough" (but not for him), once perfect.
i'm actually tearing up slightly at the end there
*STILL* my favourite skater, 20 years later. Not *TECHNICALLY* the *BEST*, but I just love watching his *STYLE* of skating. He's still busting *HUGE* gaps.. I love the way he specialises in doing *HUGE* versions of *SIMPLE* tricks, often down *HUGE* gaps. That's what Jamie Thomas was *ALWAYS* about. My first proper deck was a *ZERO JAMIE THOMAS CROSS*... Good times! *STILL* a joy to watch, 20+ years later! *UNREAL*! From huge fan, Davey Hughes in Éire (Ireland). *RESPECT MR. THOMAS*!
Watch his old Invisible footage. It's on youtube. Was his first pro video part. Just the way Jamie pushes down the street looks better than 90% of skaters doing tricks.
I enjoyed even the way he falled all the tries here, so professionally avoiding traumas
best series on youtube
Jamie Thomas was one of my favorite skaters growing up. Now I'm a grown man, and I can still get inspiration from you, Jamie. Your work ethic and passion for what you love to do has inspired me and helped me on my own journey. Keep shredding til you can't no more!
One of the absolute all-time greatest skaters ever. Still remember meeting and seeing him skate back in the 90's and being instantly hooked on his riding. I'm 40 now so this speaks to me so much...
My first deck was a Jamie Thomas zero poison deck my favorite
One of the best episodes so far.Amazing trick, tons of dedication.Inspiration!
The fact he did it again is amazing gotta love Jamie he’s helped so many people
this is the only my war episode that seems like it was an actual war
when I was a kid I was at this skatepark and no one was there Jamie walked up this huge ramp to talk to me. I was in such shock I couldn't even talk it was like seeing an alien or something. For like a month it was bothering me that maybe he thought I dissed him or something lol.

You must not have seen the skaters of today. Jamie Thomas is an actual legend, but have you heard of Kyle Walker??
that right there for me is the most important thing about skateboarding. Persistence, focus, try it over and over and over again till you got the shit right. That's something to respect.
He put into words the exact reason I still skate at age 50 ... the feeling.
Anybody know what the song in the background is called?
Awesome, i have been watching this guy for 20 years and this is my new favorite trick. Inspiring !
The other side of magazine photo stills or 10 second clip montages from countless sessions. I'd make this mandatory to watch in public schools; once on your first day and once on your graduation day. The only thing worse than falling down is being afraid to fall.
Intrigued by that Misfits Griptape... I gotta get me one
70 hours driving back and forth to get one trick now that's determination at it's core. Fucking badass
4:48, the mix of high fives and clapping sounds like a song
never understood how these guys made money...
did they work other jobs on the side while skating???
how did they afford to live?? and is that still possilble?
or will the next big star also be working night shifts at a warehouse???
Landing on a ledge from that angle is one of the most dangerous things that can happen. Only someone with as much experience as Jamie can properly bail out like that so many times.
Jamie Thomas always been my favorite skater. Dude did stuff back in the day no one else would even try.
zero was my favorite team growing up all the dudes were and still are great zero for life man keep pushing
Jamie is the original big sender as far as I'm concerned.
duude!! jamie can still do it! its amazing! its just soo crazy how far skating has come since his era. like for real, he's totally a legend, but impossible 50-50 would take shane o neil 3 tries MAX.
+minkusink6 age
I just started skating again after 20 years off to, “do life”, and it is inspiring to see JT at this level at 40. I turn 40 in a few weeks and have spent the last 6 months skating daily to catch up for the 20 year hiatus. I can attest, the falls I’ve taken hurt a lot more and are a lot less hard. But, there’s a different mental aspect to how I view things and a more strategic approach. I wish I had the focus and knowledge I have now nearing 40, at 15 when I was very serious about skating. I’d have had a serious chat with myself about life and not taking passion for grant because of stupid distractions and what everyone else says or expects.
If you want some easy stairs for intermediate tricks, I definitely recommend Portugal, specifically the Algarve.
The kids in the back were like "what happened?"
Lord lead us all to everlasting life in Jesus Christ holy name amen
He stomped thee fuck outta that second one god damn
i saw the back truck come off a little tiny bit on the second one as well but who cares both trucks grinded for sure .. i know what its like trying to get a trick over and over again .. that was fun to watch ..
These "My War" video's are the best!
100 fails and 1 success is still a success
Honestly, that high you get from almost doing it can carry you so far.
Sometimes best thing to do is not think about it too much and have one more try straight away, that's how you get into a rhythm with it.
FUCKING LEGEND SINCE ZERO & FALLEN STARTED
I felt at the top for JT!
Inspiração sempre skateboard verdadeiro 🔥🤘🏿🛹📚🛸👽🗝️💥!! Máximo respeito pela caminhada. Gratidão pelo exemplo e aprendizado! Jah Bless 🌱
I've been skating since I was like 10. And I was never able to do any crazy stuff. I never learned to kickflip or any flip trick. I could ollie, pop shuv-it, manual, 180, ride bowls, all that simple stuff. Back when I met my ex 7 years ago, I pretty much stopped skating for that entire time. I once had to get to a store and didn't have a car so I rode my board and I fell off and slammed into a parked car lol🤦♂️ walked the rest of the way. Now I'm 25, and getting back into it. Just started getting my ollies back and my pop shuvits and 180's, but man. I could barely ollie when I started. Everytime I went down to pop, I couldn't bring myself back up. It's like my legs were attached to boulders and I was lifting them. It's still kinda feeling like that but everyday its getting easier. I was about to just quit thinking I must be too old to skate anymore. But skaters like Jamie, Mullen, Hawk, and others always remind me that it's all about practice. So ima keep going.
Who else whenever u watch these kind of videos always gets a Verizon commercial lie every fucking time
I didn't know about the two makes. I Always thought he tried it for years and just got lucky one try. sorry Jamie, I should have known better. pure skill beast. And to all you kids out there, Frank undersold the difficulty factor that being 40 and taking that punishment adds. For real kids, you all owe it to these legends to remember to try to ollie up something when you're around 40years old. 78% of you won't skate anymore by the time you hit 30, but for the other 22%...LOL, Just you wait.
Such an inspiration.... GOD I MISS SKATEBOARDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I gotta get back on !! The most fun I've ever had!
I'd like to agree that this was another inspiring battle that Jamie Thomas underwent, but I don't. Rather, it was just another predictable trick of Jamie's that he made sure to agonize over, given the distasteful amount of leisure and anxiety that he has. Must I repeat the five trips to Clipper, Jamie? Or need I mention the cringe-worthy drop-in ramp that you utilized, i.e., that you packed with you? O! and I sound so sour, but seriously, Jamie: we'd really just like to see you do more energetic lines, so that you stop trying to be the Julius Caesar of skateboarding. After all, the real Julius Caesar was a lot more fun than you anyhow, what with his svelt physique and calmness and international acumen, as opposed to your . . . -- ah just do more energetic lines, man.
