  • This is video tutorial, demonstrating how I make my open style peonies (start to finish!). SUBSCRIBE for new videos every Tuesday!
    I love peonies, they are beautiful flowers. While time consuming to create, they make for a beautiful bold statement flower on wedding or special occasion cakes! They are a large flower so you don't need too many to cover a lot of space!
    I prefer the open style peony... However, if you prefer a closed center, check out my "Part 2" video that I will be uploading soon. The outer petals are the same, but part 2 will cover how to make the closed center!
    Materials needed for this project:
    Gumpaste (white & a color of your choice if you want a colored flower) Recipe: goo.gl/AanFDS
    Set of Peony Cutters: goo.gl/9uCDpD
    24 Gauge Floral Wire (paper covered): goo.gl/FMtljG
    26 Gauge Floral Wire (paper covered): goo.gl/kHprL3
    A Grooved Board (Mine is by Cel Cakes):goo.gl/UmFVL7
    A small rolling pin:goo.gl/dBQsOU
    Ball Tool" goo.gl/Db26vN
    Gum-Glue (I used a little Tylose Powder mixed into water): goo.gl/DSGBmp
    Peony Veiner (The blue one in this video is by First Impressions, the yellow part was made myself with Amazing Mold putty) :goo.gl/2tMX3y
    Dense Foam Pad:goo.gl/USZM4l
    Apple Trays (You can usually get them free at the grocery store!)
    Petal Dusts (Apple Green, Moss Green & Magenta- plus any others if you want to color or shade your petals): goo.gl/h74QOE
    Floral Tape: goo.gl/IcIjct
    Stamens: goo.gl/Pjg5Df

    Thanks for a terrific tutorial. Can you tell me how you made the reverse veiner with the amazing mold putty. I've been trying to figure that out and not having much success.

    • @reneeconner
      @reneeconner  10 років тому

      I'm so glad you like the tutorial! To make the reverse veiner- lightly coat the silicone mold with shortening just to make sure the amazing mold putty won't stick. Then roll out some putty about 1/4"-1/2" thick and press into the silicone mold and let cure! Mine got a little distorted at the end because I got nervous that it would stick and didn't let it cure completely, but I needn't have worried! Good Luck!

    • @robertaobrien5672
      @robertaobrien5672 10 років тому

      That was/is my fear that it would stick. Do you separate them once you have imprinted, or do you leave them together until cured?

    • @reneeconner
      @reneeconner  10 років тому

      Roberta OBrien I left it for a few minutes to cure, but then got nervous and pulled it apart, so the end got distorted. But, the shortening creates a barrier so it didn't really stick. That being said, I've only done it a few times, so I'm no expert at it. I did have someone say that she used shortening on a piece of cured Amazing Mold putty and it kept it from sticking even to itself... and I know for a fact that without the shortening the uncured putty WILL definitely stick to the cured putty without shortening! When I get some more of the product I'll do a little experimenting and maybe post a video specifically on that! Good Luck!

    Could you tell me what gumpaste you use or prefer? Thank you

    • @reneeconner
      @reneeconner  10 років тому

      I prefer to use homemade gumpaste, I use Nicholas Lodge's recipe, available for free here: goo.gl/AanFDS If I were to use a pre-made one, I liked Jame's Roselle's, although the last container I ordered was a bad "grainy" batch. It's really easy and cost effective to make your own though... and it's the best gumpaste I've ever worked with!

      +iamsuperblessed Jesus saves! I order my stamen from globalsugarart.com. They are safe to be used with food, but non-edible. Because of the wires in the petals, this flower should not be consumed.
