Thank you for this song Beck. I just got my own apartment after being homeless for years. I would listen to this song when I was homeless and hope for a better life. I didn't have a guitar or anything, just my voice to sing along. It helped me have hope.
Well done good sir or madame. Never give up and die trying...Bet you never thought you would be an inspiration someday in those lowest moments 😂. Yet here you are inspiring others with your fortitude.
EDIT: This comment is 7yrs old, Beyonce is an incredibly talented performer and there is no need to pit artists against each other. I wrote this as an edgy 17 year old. Wow at least Beyonce writes all her own songs, doesn't need a production company to produce an album, plays 14 instruments, has been active since the 1980s, has a distinct, original style and remains an independent artist who has successfully made 12 studio albums and sold 2x and 3x platinum albums.... oh wait, that's Beck.
Beyonce does not write her own songs or plays any insturments all she has is a mic... get real people.. Beck won get over it,,,,,,He,s not bad.. Im not a fan but I feel he did a great job and it was his turn to be honored
When my wife and children died this album helped me keep living, Beck always been my favorite musician since I was but a little teen, I'm in my 30s , just the most underrated artist ever ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I am so glad he won the Grammy. He is a true artist: no gimmicks just great music. . Kayne, Kim, Bey, and Jay Z really need to listen to what a true artist like Beck can produce. Congratulations Beck you deserve that Grammy 100 percent!
This Song its probably my favorite...I've lost my dad 3 weeks ago I miss him so much when I listen to this I fell like he is here.. I can't live without him.. Beck is one of the things now that make me the most happy because he loved him and I love my dad so I need this
The fact that Beck won gives me renewed hope that good, heartfelt quality music still lives on and has a place. This coming from a fan of Mostly Metal and Alternative. This has the soul of Neil Young, the rural flavor the Tragically Hip and the timlessness evident in all great music.
This is honestly the first 'Beck song' I have listened to and it is really extraordinary!! Reminds me of Coldplay a bit but with a lot of folk..love it!!!
Zach Rag Good to see that people are discovering his music. In my opinion, it doesn't really matter how long it takes you to find about artists like Beck, so long as you can appreciate it once you do. Go check out his older albums, as they are just as great, if not better! BTW Beck>Every pop "artist" of today
I'm really glad Beck won album of the year. I'm not incredibly familiar with his music, but he is an extremely talented musician. Keyword: MUSICIAN. He plays many of the instruments on this album, wrote the music (and lyrics) and his ideas actually make you think. With all the hype and controversy over his win, it's a good sign that the Grammys honored artistic merit over the most popular choice. It's not to say that the other album nominees lacked talent or artistry, but when something like this comes along that truly deserves to win, it's nice to see it happen. That being said, the Grammys still don't mean much and shouldn't be a measuring stick for anything.
A true musical "artist" whose type of talent we have not seen in many, many years. His ability to change his musical styles and remain fresh and original is reminiscent of many artists of the 1960s.
Beck, whenever I'm fucking tired of being alone I just turn on your album and play along with my acoustic..thank you so much. You're the only hope left we have for music.
Idk why but this song makes me feel so comfortable. So happy. Like I’m taking a walk on a nice summer day with a light breeze. This album is amazing and I love every song on it. So glad beck got some recognition for this
The whole album is freaking amazing and the award couldn't be more deserved. Many people are complaining that they never heard about Beck, which is a shame because he has been in the music industry for a long time now and has produced really good music so far... Anyway, is good to know that is still some hope for music nowadays
Wanted to see for myself who the winner of the grammy is. After listening to his album, I have to say... it is truly beautiful. No wonder he won, he deserved it.
My favorite song by him. Without question. I return to it every few months and give it a few listens, as if I need it for perspective or clarity. It's just one of those songs.
I think this is one of those times that the Grammy's gave someone an award for their effect on the direction of music, rather than this specific album. Beck's first three records - 1995 - 97, brought sampling and breaks and "found" sounds to the attention of all genres of music. Mostly since then, and this current album included, he's been coasting.
Who cares that he won instead of Beyonce? They both are amazing artists who both deserve loads of awards. It took time for them both to produce and write songs. So just because you think someone else should have won, doesn't mean he didn't deserve that award. He deserve it just as much as any other artist.
can't we all just get along? seriously, we live in the greatest time and country in the history of mankind. shouldn't we celebrate that fact? if this isn't an example of the nature of humanity, than I do not know what is. i love beck. guero and the information are amazing.
Late night standing in my balcony. Feeling so happy to hear your songs, feeling so inspired and can’t stop smiling and thinking about her. Thanks You I really appreciate and you’re are very Talented. Good luck to You. Looking forward to visit your concerts. Sergey.
Very few artists make albums that you can listen to all the way through. This entire album has a feel that is very distinct in and of itself and yet it has a clear sonic theme. It is how albums use to be made. It's lush and it has these surprises that keep you coming back and interested. Perfect
This reminds me of the times when my dad lived in Dallas, Texas in an apartment. We would listen to this song in the car while we would be going to this restaurant called Goodfriends. We also listened to it at his apartment, which smelled like extremely bitter brownies. Those were the days. If I ever make an FPS, I’m going to make a secret map that you can access if you beat a certain Easter egg on a previous zombie map (my game will be called Hell on Earth and it’ll have Campaign, Multiplayer, and Undead). It’ll be Dallas, and this song will be playing in one of the buildings. This song is Awesome man.
I'm impressed. I loved Sea Change, so this is will be the first album I've actually bought in a long long time, and it will probably stay that way for a long long time as well.
Wow, I'm impressed that the academy picked this as album of the year. It's melodic. well produced, got some decent song writing matter, and stands by itself. Real music in other words. It doesn't need to have half clothed women shaking their rump in order to sell it. I hope this is a trend for the future and we can get back to what makes music music, and not some BS visual imagery. Can we just sit back and listen to music the way it was meant to be perceived with our ears and not with our eyes. Good for Beck.
Isn't rump shaking good exercise anymore? Doesn't it pay well? Oh wait, does it mean I get to use my bachelors for a job in finance? No? I'm too fat for that too?
Whenever I see Beck I think of my late son, they both have the same eyes. He introduced me to Beck as an old man and I listen to Beck to keep his memory fresh in my head.
This is one of those melodies that capture a dour, heartbreaking feel that just barely keeps me from crying because it chose to submerge its sound in a sort of merciful optimism. To mind, only this and "Age of Consent" by New Order can make feel this particular way.
He looks kinda like Brian Jones from the Stones in this photo. I wonder if he's, maybe, trying to say that this might be something like what Brian would have composed if he hadn't got so fucked up, ya know? I mean, it seems that Beck tries to do these kinda things. He's just interesting. Idk. I love his music, tho.
Kayne Jacques other way around en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unchained_(Johnny_Cash_album) cash liked the song so covered an upbeat version of it beck wrote it in 94 and cash covered it in 96
Kayne Jacques i know what you mean, to find out that the greats like tom petty and johnny chas are covering him just goes to show what level beck has reached. i was a bit disappointed that some people only found beck after kanye stormed the stage but at least they found him eventually haha
I live out in Arizona and whenever I 'try' to listen to the radio I find abrasiveness. Consequently I don't listen much. But I was lucky enough to find "Heart Is A Drum". And now, whenever I dare to use some of my library computer time to explore Beck . . . I constantly impressed with his being versed in instrumentation and mixing things up composition wise. AND he seems lucky enough to find people who believe in exploring expressiveness.
other 'best albums' were better collections of songs but cannot compare to what Beck delivered as an album in its entirety... albums are reviewed as a single entity, like a story and a theme, a mood... an experience. a "album" full of pop singles does not a good album make... just good singles does it make
Beyonce's album is literally nothing but a story to be viewed in a specific order and in it's entirety, with a story and theme and definitely an experience. Not only did she create an experience through the music, but she also added a visual aspect to the entire album. Do not say that the other albums were not worthy.
yeah even by pop standards.. closest you can find in pop and hip hop to something like Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon is Kanye's Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.... Beyonce's Flawless is certainly not has revealing and chilling as that
I'm 41, I've heard of Beck before but I was just unaware that he had any recent hits. I guess the other artist are more mainstream and I guess that's why I have at least heard of them. But I'm open to new things!!
Lyrics :] I'm so tired of being alone These penitent walls are all I've known Songbird calling across the water Inside my silent asylum Oh don't leave me on my own Left me standing all alone Cut me down to size so I can fit inside Lies that will divide us both in time See the turncoat on his knees A vagabond that no one sees When a moon is throwing shadows You can't save the ones you've caught in battle Oh don't leave me on my own Left me standing all alone Cut me down to size so I can fit inside Lies you try to hide behind your eyes Don't leave me on my own Don't leave me on my own So cut me down to size so I can fit inside Lies that will divide us both in time
he has such outstanding musical capabilities. I can tell he's a very sensitive person; you'd have to be to create this kind of complicated music. his work has a lot depth, nuance, vulnerability and is highly original in its composition; he's very, very unique in an industry that's fueled by cookie-cutter, common, boring, stale music.
Andrew Baca The National was the guest when Lena hosted. Beck was the guest when Jim Parsons hosted. Honestly an easy mix up with the rise of "indie" music on SNL
"Hi! My name’s Angie and my dream is to be singer, I know there’re a lot of people like me, but could you please give me a chance to watch my video of me singing on my channel? Thank you"
Juan Moreno "Let's see you do better." It's not hilarious enough that you went apeshit on his comment, you had to use the cop-out response of the century.
I remember being obsessed with this song. I was only 20 I was in love with a classmate from college (and totally friend zoned) I was heartbroken I used to listen to this song and cry. I’m now 27 and with the man of my dreams. now I remember those times with a smile on my face. I was totally naive and unaware of what God held for me.
This is one of the most beautiful songs I've had the pleasure of listening to. Thank you Beck.
That I can get behind!
Strong contender.
this album really helped me when I was homeless. then in 2019 I was able to see him play live, it was something else
Seriously still listen to this day and it puts me at ease
Thank you for this song Beck. I just got my own apartment after being homeless for years. I would listen to this song when I was homeless and hope for a better life. I didn't have a guitar or anything, just my voice to sing along. It helped me have hope.
❤
good for you dear! keep the faith for better days are coming
Well done good sir or madame. Never give up and die trying...Bet you never thought you would be an inspiration someday in those lowest moments 😂. Yet here you are inspiring others with your fortitude.
💜🤗
For those who don't give up, we salute you!
One of the coolest things about Beck is that his father works with him. His Dad does the brass and string arrangements on this record. I love that.
That is awesome.
Just lost my dad to death. Happy when anyone can spend more time with Dad!
That is really cool
EDIT: This comment is 7yrs old, Beyonce is an incredibly talented performer and there is no need to pit artists against each other. I wrote this as an edgy 17 year old.
Wow at least Beyonce writes all her own songs, doesn't need a production company to produce an album, plays 14 instruments, has been active since the 1980s, has a distinct, original style and remains an independent artist who has successfully made 12 studio albums and sold 2x and 3x platinum albums.... oh wait, that's Beck.
all he needs is two turntables and a microphone.... i couldn't resist
Tim Ward lol you're awesome!
I don't know if she does or not but Beck does write his own at the very lest co wrote.
Beyonce does not write her own songs or plays any insturments all she has is a mic... get real people.. Beck won get over it,,,,,,He,s not bad.. Im not a fan but I feel he did a great job and it was his turn to be honored
Here here! *In a manner fitting of someone that knows more about music, art and cultural history then what commercial radio feeds the masses*
When my wife and children died this album helped me keep living, Beck always been my favorite musician since I was but a little teen, I'm in my 30s , just the most underrated artist ever ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Sorry for your loss. Music is a blessing and Beck has a lot of great music.
That overdrive at 3:06, is why there will never be another Beck. God Bless you Beck Hansen and David Richard Campbell.
Congratulations on your win Beck.
no
69TwennyWon Tacodick Yes
Beyonce is a joke. Beck has more talent in his pinky finger.
I am so glad he won the Grammy. He is a true artist: no gimmicks just great music. . Kayne, Kim, Bey, and Jay Z really need to listen to what a true artist like Beck can produce. Congratulations Beck you deserve that Grammy 100 percent!
😂😂😂
Beckster by a mile over those loudmouths
Love this guy. Truly. He's been like an anchor for me since I was like 15. I'm 40 now...That's saying something...
My name is Jeremiah Beck and I love BECK
This Song its probably my favorite...I've lost my dad 3 weeks ago I miss him so much when I listen to this I fell like he is here.. I can't live without him.. Beck is one of the things now that make me the most happy because he loved him and I love my dad so I need this
Sorry for your loss Caty
Really sorry to hear that. Hope Beck can help you with some emotional healing.
Caty Lps sorry for your loss, it really sucks to lose someone you love.
It is a beautiful song Cathyy I feel something when i listen to it!
My dad left a beck disc for me prior to his death many years ago, which is what ultimately lead me to listening to the rest of his music.
'Sea Change' was my favourite Beck album. I still listen to tracks from the album daily. This track is great.
Definitely my favorite as well. Incredible from start to finish. Hopefully this new album is a return to that sound.
jimkaml you haven't read the press notes for this record? It's meant to be the spiritual successor to Sea Change.
You took the words right out of my mouth.
Same. I'm quite excited :D
Song sounds like a sequel to sea of change style.
ALBUM OF THE YEAR
YESS fuck the haters
He deserved it
***** true!
***** so you're telling me neither Ed Sheeran nor Sam Smith make real music
C.J. Wise Sam Smith is BOOORING!!!
I forgot how much I loved this track.
The fact that Beck won gives me renewed hope that good, heartfelt quality music still lives on and has a place. This coming from a fan of Mostly Metal and Alternative. This has the soul of Neil Young, the rural flavor the Tragically Hip and the timlessness evident in all great music.
I'm born in '69 and gonna say it and maybe it's been said before, this man is our GenX Dylan, a quiet genius he is.
This is honestly the first 'Beck song' I have listened to and it is really extraordinary!! Reminds me of Coldplay a bit but with a lot of folk..love it!!!
Try the album Odelay! One of the most creative albums out there. I'm glad that you're not one of those "Who the hell is he, he sucks" people.
Google Odelay too.
TestTest123ization will do :)
Oh my god same
Zach Rag Good to see that people are discovering his music. He won Album of the year for reason y'all...
Agree with all that think this is the best version of blue moon ever imagined and made. It touches my soul. Thank you, Beck for the beauty.
Seeing this chap tonight Victoria warehouse in Manchester. I’ve waited since I was 16 to see him. I’m 43 this year. Can’t wait
I don't really listen to this type of music, but I can see why he won album of the year. The guy really is talented.
the world is better with Beck in it
I'm really glad Beck won album of the year. I'm not incredibly familiar with his music, but he is an extremely talented musician. Keyword: MUSICIAN. I'm glad a 90's gem is still shiny enough to be admired.
Kayne went home and listened to this Album and was like, "Damn this shit is that good"
Beck, whenever I'm fucking tired of being alone I just turn on your album and play along with my acoustic..thank you so much. You're the only hope left we have for music.
Congratulations, Beck. You handled the issue like a gentleman.
Idk why but this song makes me feel so comfortable. So happy. Like I’m taking a walk on a nice summer day with a light breeze. This album is amazing and I love every song on it. So glad beck got some recognition for this
Congratulations on your grammy win Beck. You truly deserved it!
gorgeous and it gets better with every listenXX
Beck doesn't lip sync during his live performances
Ok then
Yeah because he's not a pop singer. Different performance style
you hear that? those are real instruments people! real written music.
Winston Churchill he can play 14 instruments according to a guy in a another thread
The whole album is freaking amazing and the award couldn't be more deserved. One who captures the most beautiful moments in a life! All in a 3 minute century. Heart open, eyes closed, tears freely flowing!
The Replacements- Cant hardly wait. Listen to it. I am sure Beck has been a fan of them since he was a kid.
The problem with Beck songs is that they are never long enough, so I have to play the whole album on repeat.
Song has been stuck in my head on and off for months
Wanted to see for myself who the winner of the grammy is. After listening to his album, I have to say... it is truly beautiful. No wonder he won, he deserved it.
My favorite song by him. Without question. I return to it every few months and give it a few listens, as if I need it for perspective or clarity. It's just one of those songs.
Love this album. Truly unique, always fresh.
this whole album is pure magic and genius!
thanx for the upload
beck is sth. out of this world
Thanks
Songs as good as this only come around...once in a blue moon.
I think this is one of those times that the Grammy's gave someone an award for their effect on the direction of music, rather than this specific album. Extremely emotional and powerful in it's delivery, one of the best songs of the album imo
Thank you Beck for making such beautiful music
Perfect. A true artist. Let us agree he is Brilliant. I admire you. Thank you for the gift.
Jeffrey~

This is GREAT! Beck is back, and I didn't know it.
I cannot describe the love I feel for this song... it just grows and grows....Beck how you do it ??
You've never disappointed me, Mr.Beck!
Love this album! Well deserved win by Beck and team!
I'm impressed. I loved Sea Change, so this is will be the first album I've actually bought in a long long time, and it will probably stay that way for a long long time as well.
I have a feeling that this album is going to be worth the 6 year wait.

Album Of the Year!!!! Congratulations, Beck!
Brilliant! The only constant in life is change.
This is one of those melodies that capture a dour, heartbreaking feel that just barely keeps me from crying because it chose to submerge its sound in a sort of merciful optimism. To mind, only this and "Age of Consent" by New Order can make feel this particular way.
me too
oddly, me too.
exactly
He looks kinda like Brian Jones from the Stones in this photo. I mean, it seems that Beck tries to do these kinda things. He's just interesting. Idk. I love his music, tho.
Freddieboy44 nice observation. I personally think he looks more like Kurt Cobain in this picture though.
it's a shame you don't know that beck has put out amazing music since the 90s.
+Cody Price Loser... not you, thats the name of one of his first songs ;) 90s Beck was awesome. But so is the new.
Row boat is awesome, so i satan gave me a taco haha they all good
Kayne Jacques other way around en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unchained_(Johnny_Cash_album) cash liked the song so covered an upbeat version of it beck wrote it in 94 and cash covered it in 96

Beck! Beautiful days need the spirit of freedom, what a time to be alive and free. Looks like you are flying. ❤
Saw this live a few days ago. Was amazing when the fast notes at 3:06 came in. Awe inspiring.
Sometimes winning a Grammy isn't a popularity contest, at least it opens people to new music.
Oh man... Morning Phase is looking to be a good one.

Jim Marley Grammer

beck deserves more recognition than just suprise album of the year winner
Listen to "loser", if you think you don't know Beck... You know Beck...
Oh wow.. I do know Beck
I like what you did there.
Oh wow.. I still don't know Beck
And "where it's at"...... two turntables and a microphone
Sir Dale Is this because you listen to top 40 bullshit?
just as great as he was in the 90's
Remember E-Pro? My first beck song :)
babysinclairfan e-pro i have not heard that song, ill look it up.my first was loser then dreams
He looks so cute on the cover! He looks so cute! Oh no, I'm gonna fall in love with him again...
I totally get your point
I love this song. I love how diverse Beck's music is.
Beck's music is so rich....love it
Lyrics :]
I'm so tired of being alone
These penitent walls are all I've known
Songbird calling across the water
Inside my silent asylum
Oh don't leave me on my own
Left me standing all alone
Cut me down to size so I can fit inside
Lies that will divide us both in time
See the turncoat on his knees
A vagabond that no one sees
When a moon is throwing shadows
You can't save the ones you've caught in battle
Oh don't leave me on my own
Left me standing all alone
Cut me down to size so I can fit inside
Lies you try to hide behind your eyes
Don't leave me on my own
Don't leave me on my own
So cut me down to size so I can fit inside
Lies that will divide us both in time
Am I the only one who hears a timeless, classic sound on this album like "Pet Sounds" by the Beach Boys?
Damn this is incredible.
gooshii..
I am in awe.
Beck has been making good music for years. He deserved it.
This song takes me too a magical safe place. Definitely top 100 of all time.
he has such outstanding musical capabilities. I can tell he's a very sensitive person; you'd have to be to create this kind of complicated music. his work has a lot depth, nuance, vulnerability and is highly original in its composition; he's very, very unique in an industry that's fueled by cookie-cutter, common, boring, stale music.
so happy he won
Really beautiful in a sea change type way :)
Beck, Thank you for this beautiful gift. I ❤️ it ! 🥰
Listening to this album with big speakers does really bring you into another world..Grammy well deserved
euphoric melodic inspiration
Wow! This is really good. Thanks SNL.
he was on SNL again?
Yeah. And Lena Dunham hosted. It wasn't that funny but beck was really good.
Andrew Baca that was not Beck with Lena Dunham.
I thought it was. She said there name
Andrew Baca The National was the guest when Lena hosted. Beck was the guest when Jim Parsons hosted. Honestly an easy mix up with the rise of "indie" music on SNL
The Information is still my favorite album, but damn this is some sweet as music
I just love how every album he does has such a unique sound all in its self.
I love the Information too, but we're all forgetting how underrated Modern Guilt was
No matter what credit where credit is due ... Beck deserves this. !!! Great talented artist .
becks been doin it awesome for 30 years. been listenin to him since i was little in the nineties
Like the music so much.
"Hi! My name’s Angie and my dream is to be singer, I know there’re a lot of people like me, but could you please give me a chance to watch my video of me singing on my channel? Thank you"
Sure dear.
Mohamed Al-Shahawy Thank you!
Had to look him after the Grammys because I had no clue who the hell he was (I don't listen to the radio often).
Good win.
this guy is old. hes been making shit since the 90's
Grammar Communist he is old so what young gra. It is up to you to do better or shut the fuck up.
Juan Moreno calm the farm.

I don't know why all these Beyonce fans are so angry, she and Kanye can simply just sample Beck's music on their album next year to win .. :D
Beck is the most amazing artiste ever, I'm so happy he won that Grammy, woot
This is awesome and my mom is cooking something which smells really good. :)

Und was ist jetzt so Weltbewegendes an seiner Musik,um einen Grammy zu bekommen?
Loved Beck, his talent, diversity and messages and of course the best videos for over 25 years. Honored I saw his 1st tour back then.
