Old Navy jeans fit me the best, especially their extra high waisted jeans. They cost around $45. The quality is great and they make every style you can name. When shopping for jeans I always check Old Navy first!
Absolutely yes to a separate video on which silhouette works best for which body type. The YKK zipper and the railroad track hem was an eyeopener for me. Really great tips! Thanks, Erin! Another useful video.
I’m a tall girl at 5’11” and very curvy. Finding jeans that fit me nicely is a big challenge. I also can’t afford $200 jeans and would probably not spend that much on a pair of jeans even if I could. Your tips were great! I already follow most of them but the size of the zipper and the pocket distance was something new I learned. Thank you 😘
Erin, I'm petite too. 5' 2". Instead of hemming & huge cuffing, I've just been cutting them off. I've done a step hem, a tulip hem, a deconstructed hem, I've taken a seam ripper to pull out the hem threads. I am SO Happy with the results. ( I started my "project" on my old jeans first incase i screwed them up). There are so many great videos on UA-cam that teach you how to distress/deconstruct or alter your denim!!😉
I love that you referenced Alexandra's channel. Her video and now yours are the only two on youtube with sound jean advice. I also really liked how your video went a step deeper into the topic and relating it to more mature women' needs. I've noticed her content is gearing more to a younger demographic as her channels continue to grow, and I can't relate to her advice as much anymore. So, basically, I just wanted to thank you for this because I've been needing a new pair and these tips are going to help shorten the time I waste searching for them. Also If you wanted to start a whole series dedicated to jeans and other non-work pants, I wouldn't oppose it.
In general, I am really good at shopping for clothes for myself. I have my personal style figured out. But I’ve never been able to figure out jeans! And they are my favorite thing to wear! When I find a pair I like, I wear that single pair until they fall apart. Thanks for all these tips. I’m going to rewatch a few times and then head to the thrift store, where all the jean combinations exist in one place, and figure this out once and for all.
Great information on buying jeans, Erin. I remember a few years ago low pockets were in style. I wore them, but they never looked great. Now I know why! I'll definitely pay more attention to all of these details when purchasing jeans. I'd love a video on jeans for different body types.
I had no idea about the pockets! Thank you so much for showing us small-high pockets next to big-low pockets--I never would have noticed how much of a difference this all makes! (I know some jeans look better but I couldn't pinpoint what it was!) And thank you for all of the rest of these tips--great to know!
I kind of chuckled when you said this would be life-changing, but wow, it actually was! I had NO idea about the zippers and the seams. I only own cheap jeans, so it's definitely time to go shopping! :) Thanks for all the great info!
Another tip that I learned while buying jeans is to make sure they are made with a min. of 2% elastan, otherwise they tend to sag easily.Thank you so much for the detailed tips.Love your channel!
Exactly! Women come in all different shapes, sizes and styles. I am so sick of these awful skinny jeans, and now high rise and all are not cotton denim but poly spandex which fit terribly.
Thank you so much for these tips! I try looking for cotton with minimal elastane/ spandex. But all of them have some percentage of polyester these days unfortunately :/ Still looking for the quality cotton jeans, redying my black cotton ones. I hem my jeans if they're too long. I totally agree with most of the tips. But tbh, with the long zipper tip- I hate the super long zipper in front 😬 I feel like it draws all the attention to that area- so awkward looking. But if a pair fits great, a regular size zipper won't do the awkward thing you mentioned. Thanks for the seam tips! Brilliant style tips, learning lots from your channel :)
I had no idea that so many details went into buying jeans. Thank you Erin for showing us what to look for. I would also love to see a video about silhouette. You are so helpful and wonderful!
Hi Erin, thanks for the guidelines, I did follow it religiously and land myself a pair of Levi’s 501 high rise button fly in pearl black and a pair of blue one, high rise as well, from Tom Taylor. Rear pockets are 3 inches apart, 👍. It does make my butt looks smaller, slimmer and ‘perky’. Thanks 😍 xoxo
Great details in this video, Erin! My issue is that while I’m long and lean, I have to be very careful with sizing and shape. High waisted jeans just don’t work well - if I get them to fit my waist, I have tons of extra fabric in the crotch, hips, and thighs / if I get them to fit my hips and thighs, there’s no way they’ll zip up! And mid rise can give muffin top if it’s not almost high rise. I’ve given up on designer brands and now get my jeans from Chico’s (their 000 fits perfectly -guess they know some of us have larger waist and less hips and thighs). Anyone else have this concern and found high end brand that works?
I agree that this was an excellent video and I loved learning about those important details like the zipper and inside stitching. Thank-you for also stating that we all don’t have to be wearing “skinny” jeans to be fashionable. It’s important to be comfortable and just look good in them.
This was very informative. Of course, I had to check all my favorite jeans. Interestingly, my most expensive Paige jeans from Nordstrom’s had the YKK zipper, but not the double seam on bottom. I was shocked. My less expensive Kut from the Kloth jeans met all the criteria for a good pair of jeans. Even my Target jeans by Universal Thread had the railroad track double seam and YKK zipper. 😱 My Old Navy jeans had neither. But hey, I pay like $20 for those so 🤷🏻♀️
OMG! Thank you! I needed this video. Finding the right pair of jeans for me, is like finding the right man. 😋 jeans for a petite curvy plus size are hard to find. Thank you for the tips.
Great video Erin. I learned a few things-the quality in the zipper and seams, and the length of the zipper. I so agree about brands that fit certain body types. I’m tall with a rectangle shape-Paige Hoxton and Citizens fit me the best.
I don’t really have problems finding jeans but these are all good tips...I had to pause and check my jeans for quality stitching, zipper length, and YKK zipper, all check. Thanks, Erin
I have always purchased jeans from Ann Taylor or The Loft and they work well for my petite self, 4’10.5. However, I have recently discovered Madewell jeans! OMG, I love them!!!!
Best jeans ever made for a”woman’s” body were blue denim Guess jeans with the white Guess tag on right side back “small” pocket. Circa late 80s, early 90s. Straight legged but not pencil legged. Fit at natural waist and I was rockin them weekly.
OMGoodness Erin.....this is some great information! I put all my other clothes under a microscope before I commit to making and wearing them. But when it comes to jeans....I just wear whatever I can still fit in from my slimmer days😒. I have never thought about the pocket size or distance😱- yet I could see the difference once you showed us. I made notes and going to try on my current jeans and check the back view....lol! I'm not going to go out and spend several Jones of dollars on - but I'll add them to my list to sew my own😉!!! And yes, I'm going to have to bid my low and medium rise jeans farewell. That's just not a good look on me now.... this getting older thing sucks!!! I'm feeling everyday off my 47 years today.....but that's not going to stop me from looking good with how I look now. Thanks so.....i much for these valuable tips. High rise jeans here I come!!!!!
Thank you!!!! I immediately measured the front and back rise of all my jeans (the ones I love and the ones I don't) and finally have a formula for success! I have had several missteps buying jeans that left me with pants I don't wear - that's wasted money and frustration. The next challenge is finding another pair of my faves that fit me best!
Thank you so much for saying high pockets. I never understood why Stacy on what not to wear always pushed low pockets on jeans. No no no. I’ve even taken pockets off and moved them up Huge difference
Those Jean's are cute! I hate when that happens. I do love and suggest American eagle Jean's, I know the stitching isnt up to par but they last forever for me and the curvy fot is LIFE
……...one more thing, Erin. I was in Ulta yesterday. They have taken the large poster of you that used to hang in the front of the store, made it smaller and attached it to an end cap. Still looks really great.
Dear Erin .....you said so many things and its so informative. There are so many things that we don't even consider when buying jeans .....thanx a lot❤❤❤❤👍👍👍
tht pocket tip is sooo hlpful!! but the only thing is its hard to find such a pair:( could you suggest some brands?like levis, H and M? MANGO? ETC please?
Back in my day, jeans didn’t come pre-faded or pre-ripped, they were all mid-rise, dark blue, and had YKK zippers. If you wanted them any other way, you did that yourself. These days, my favorite jeans cost $5.99 and come from thrift stores!
What a wealth of information! Is everyone checking their zipper?? Thanks again for all the time and energy you put into to these great videos. I will say that one of my pet peeves of buying jeans (or slacks) online is that quite frequently they do not list the inseam. I'm 5'8" and I find this very frustrating. I remember that video on brands for certain body types but I definitely will go watch it again.
Love this video! It was so helpful. Yes, I would like to see a video from you about picking the right jeans for your body type. Also, if you have suggestions about what materials/brands to buy if you are sensitive to the dye used in darker washes of denim. I love dark wash skinnies (and need the slimming effect the provide) but can’t wear them due to super sensitive skin. :-/
I used to hate high rise jeans when I was younger; but, considering the material they use nowadays, such as spandex, the high rise jeggings show off my shape 😁. Jeans are now much more comfortable than they used to be.
Small, high placed , close together pockets on all styles and a few no pocket styles and cargo style with cuffs at the ankle, maybe drawstring n comfy!!!! :)
Just came back to re-watch this because even high end designers are still doing the large low pockets that make my non-butt non- attractive! PS You look late 30's in this video! Hair, lip color *chef's kiss*!
Amazing compilation of info. I actually took notes 😂. Do you have any advice on the fabric content of stretchy jeans? Of how to find stretchy jeans that you don’t have to constantly adjust? Thank you!
Best part of your video which there are a lot of good points and tips and you are wonderful but I like when you said you need the best version of yourself and I like you said dress in the style that you think is flattering on you and I think that is great and I wish more people would do that and you’re doing a great PSA
I appreciate how your content is meaningful. It is not too basic and not too over my head. Some things I already know, some I am learning. I have some fashion industry background so I expect I would have a little more knowledge base. Thank You! I am power-watching your video catalog. 👍
Wow that's great tips most of us don't know this details buying jeans I love your vlogs. Thank ou so much know, I know how to buy jeans check the zipper ykl, the pocket, etc. Really appreciate.
Such an detailed and informative video. The only problem re high rise is that if you aren’t long waisted, they go up to your diaphragm when you sit down.
Thanks Erin, this is so useful. Especially the zipper length! Would you do a fall/autumn video about what really worked for you last year and what didn’t work? What you found most useful etc.
Thank you so much for the blog post on jeans for tall women! I have great difficulty finding jeans that fit and for years had to wear men's jeans to get them long enough.
Wow! This is so, so useful!! Thank you so much. I have been resisting getting a higher cut jean (usually get midrise) but you have convinced me to try them out. SO many great tips- thanks, Erin!
Great video Erin , so helpful and truly insightful! I always struggle to find the right pair of jeans! An idea for the next video , perhaps the essentials to have in a fashion (and non) jewelry box? Thank you 😊
Great tips, Erin. However, if I may, I would like to add a tiny remark to the "back pocket placement" section. I agree that small pockets positioned high on the butt will give rise to your butt. This is true for people with a firm butt. If someone has, let say, an unfirm butt, placing small pockets high will increase the impression of flat hanging buttocks. When faced with this case in sewing, we lower the pockets, keep them small while we give them a little more separation: this will actually lift the butt as less flesh will come under the lower seams of the pockets. All the best.
Such a helpful video, thank you! Being curvy/muscular but short really makes Jean shopping torture for me. This will be on my saved videos to refer to. Can't wait to check out the Blog post. Thanks Erin! ☮💚😁
OMG! such fantastic information...some of it I knew but some i will be paying attention to and looking for! Thank you! I believe this will be a game changer. Going to watch the video about jean manufacturers now.... ;))
Thanks for a great video! I've always loved jeans with higher, smaller pockets too. They are not super easy to find though. Your skin is looking amazing. What are you doing that is giving you this youthful glow?
Erin, so lucky, the Levi’s I bought on May 6th at their store, has all your tips. High rise skinny has double railroad tracks, long zipper and no fading. Inseam is 28, so maybe an inch to an inch and a half long on me but looks ok. When you get them hemmed I find it spoils the shape at bottom. Levi’s are way better than the Madewell jeans.
Great video. I was never one for buying jeans . Though I have plenty that friends have given me. I am really going to make an effort and find out what suits
Thanks for this very informative video Erin! 😍 It’s so hard to find the perfect jeans though! Which is why I sometimes buy multiple pairs in either the same color or different when I see something I like. I think one of the most important things to consider also is the stretchiness, basically the stretchier it is the better 😊
I wear a 0 long and even though I'm 68, American Eagle jeans fit me best. I hve slim hips and the AE jeans are good for that. Also, they hit all the right points for pocket placement, etc. AE also has curvy fit for girls with more assets.
Wonderful video! Thank you so much. I would love to see a video on hats, how to wear them and what is the appropriate etiquette. BTW, I am a shorter, curvy gal and nothing makes my legs look longer then a pointy toe shoe! Thanks!
It would be fun to have Erin post several affordable outfits then have viewers submit dupe photos of different body shapes so viewers can see. Maybe tweeking a tuck, neckline or accessories to make the outfit work for the body type.
Excellent tips, very helpful! I have way too many jeans, bought without rhyme or reason except for "cuteness" factor. 🙄 Now I can purge any low quality, ill fitting jeans from my collection. Thank you! The only thing I had to Google was "YKK zipper" and how to identify it.
I needed a refresher! I am a jean freak. It's been difficult losing weight and finding the right size. But now some of my jeans are looser and looser jeans are in. I guess I need a belt to actually work as a belt. ( no bum gal) Generally, I don't like belts because sometimes it adds something in the wrong places. Mousey jeans are my next adventure but I am pretty tall at 5'7". Yikes! Kind of fun though.
I'm SO glad this was helpful, Lisa! I absolutely love Moussy jeans! Just make sure you check the inseam before choosing...Many run short, but would look super cute as cropped jeans on someone of your height. xo
Old Navy jeans fit me the best, especially their extra high waisted jeans. They cost around $45. The quality is great and they make every style you can name. When shopping for jeans I always check Old Navy first!
I am 65 and i knew about the YKK zipper. When i was younger i used to sew my own pants with YKK zippers.
Absolutely yes to a separate video on which silhouette works best for which body type. The YKK zipper and the railroad track hem was an eyeopener for me. Really great tips! Thanks, Erin! Another useful video.
Okay, got it! THanks, Susan... Erin xo
I agree
How do I find that info?
I had to go back 3 years to get a stylist to give me permission to untuck. You're my favorite human now. 🤣
I’m a tall girl at 5’11” and very curvy. Finding jeans that fit me nicely is a big challenge. I also can’t afford $200 jeans and would probably not spend that much on a pair of jeans even if I could. Love the side by side of the tush! What difference pocket placement makes!
Omg now I need to check every one of my jeans to see if they have big or small pockets! 😀
Great information on buying jeans, Erin. I remember a few years ago low pockets were in style. I wore them, but they never looked great. Now I know why! I'll definitely pay more attention to all of these details when purchasing jeans. I'd love a video on jeans for different body types.
Erin, this is probably one of your most helpful videos yet! Who knew there was so much beyond the wash and cut of jeans!
I had no idea about the pockets! Thank you so much for showing us small-high pockets next to big-low pockets--I never would have noticed how much of a difference this all makes! Yup, wasn't kidding. ;) Erin xo
Hi Erin, Most of the jeans out there have large, somewhat low pockets. Maybe you can influence some of these designers!
Another tip that I learned while buying jeans is to make sure they are made with a min. of 2% elastan, otherwise they tend to sag easily.Thank you so much for the detailed tips.Love your channel!
Great tip!! xo
It seems like when a particular cut of jeans is in style, that’s the only thing you can find. A little variety would be nice.
Exactly! Women come in all different shapes, sizes and styles. I am so sick of these awful skinny jeans, and now high rise and all are not cotton denim but poly spandex which fit terribly.
Very true.
Reading this comment 4 years later, your wish came true. Literally every style is in this year. Might as well stock up while it lasts.
You are so kind I really appreciate your care for women's struggles with self image .God bless you

Wow, did I learn a lot from this video. Thank you, Erin! I’m going to need to watch this again before shopping.

Of course! Wear what makes you feel more confident... and fits and flatters your body!!
😊 I have to stop 3/4 of the way through this video to tell you THANK YOU so much, Erin! This is so helpful! ❤️
I think I will go and check all my jeans for those quality details! Thanks for these tips.
I don’t really have problems finding jeans but these are all good tips...I had to pause and check my jeans for quality stitching, zipper length, and YKK zipper, all check. Thanks, Erin

Great tips
Yes, Alexandra's Girly Talk has a great video on this also. (Good of you to give her a shout out)
Of course... always give credit where credit is due! Erin xo
Wow! I can’t believe I’ve gone this long without realizing so many of these things! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
No no no. I’ve even taken pockets off and moved them up
Huge difference
They make a huge difference! xo

I heard that... thanks for sharing, Susan! I hope I get to work on another exciting project like that one. That was one for the books!
Didn't know she was in Ulta, why?
Thank you! I am planning to purchase a pair of jeans, so I especially appreciate this video.
Dear Erin .....you said so many things and its so informative. There are so many things that we don't even consider when buying jeans .....thanx a lot❤❤❤❤👍👍👍

I will say that one of my pet peeves of buying jeans (or slacks) online is that quite frequently they do not list the inseam. I'm 5'8" and I find this very frustrating. I remember that video on brands for certain body types but I definitely will go watch it again.
S Godbout I definitely was😀
Love this video! :-/
Great resource! First timer here. I've seen some of these tips in magazines but this is better because I can refer back to it.
Classic Busbee Style video! Love love love this! And yes, please, more jeans videos! Well done Erin! 💯
I used to hate high rise jeans when I was younger; but, considering the material they use nowadays, such as spandex, the high rise jeggings show off my shape 😁. Jeans are now much more comfortable than they used to be.
Thanks for the sharing. As a jeans manufacture, I think we really need voices from every jeans lover.
Small, high placed , close together pockets on all styles and a few no pocket styles and cargo style with cuffs at the ankle, maybe drawstring n comfy!!!! :)
Great info especially about rise zippers etc. It all helps
Thank you!
You obviously put a lot of effort into this. Thanks for the extremely helpful information
Glad it was helpful! Thank you! xo
Awesome video! Super helpful. Thank you!!
Loved the information! Did not know about the railroad stitching or the zipper. Thank you for sharing!💕💕
Your hair looks great! Don't know if it's the color, length or style but looking fabulous! Thanks for the video.
I agree her hair looks shiny and healthy!
The back pocket tip is crucial! So many jeans brands have pockets that are too low. So frustrating! And the YKK zipper is true for handbags too!
Vera Matson And for kids clothing😆
Best part of your video which there are a lot of good points and tips and you are wonderful but I like when you said you need the best version of yourself and I like you said dress in the style that you think is flattering on you and I think that is great and I wish more people would do that and you’re doing a great PSA
Great tips!!!! I've watched Alexandra's girly talk videos and love them :)
Alexandra made me discover the zipper length stuff, I'm happy you mentioned it. Great work 🥰.
Very useful information, especially since I need a pair of dark washed jeans. Thanks for doing this video!
I appreciate how your content is meaningful. It is not too basic and not too over my head. Some things I already know, some I am learning. I have some fashion industry background so I expect I would have a little more knowledge base. Thank You! I am power-watching your video catalog. 👍
I appreciate that! Thank you SO much, Lisa! xo
Quite possibly the most useful video Erin has ever made. Thank you Erin!
Erin thank you for the jean tips. Very helpful.🥰
Hands down best jeans guide ever!
Wow that's great tips most of us don't know this details buying jeans I love your vlogs. Thank ou so much know, I know how to buy jeans check the zipper ykl, the pocket, etc. Really appreciate.
Glad it was helpful, Rosellie! xo
Great video! Interesting to see that many high end jeans do not meet these requirements.
Great video, Erin. Love this. Super informative!
Thank you so much for the blog post on jeans for tall women! I have great difficulty finding jeans that fit and for years had to wear men's jeans to get them long enough.
Great tips! I definitely learned a lot from this video. I also kept thinking how much you look like Geri Halliwell 💖
Thank you SO much, Trini! xo
Hi Erin! Watching the old Jean videos. Hope you are well. Big hugs to you Lena in Australia ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! You too, Lena! xo
Unfirm butt! Yes.
High rise jeans have changed my life.
Really lovely, bubbly presentation you great girlie! Really helpful tips and l will definitely watch more of your suggestions.
THANKYOU 🥰 xx
You are SO sweet, Susannah! Thank you! xo
Such a helpful video, thank you! Being curvy/muscular but short really makes Jean shopping torture for me. This will be on my saved videos to refer to. Can't wait to check out the Blog post. Thanks Erin! ☮💚😁
Thanks, Dana! The blogs talk about brands for size type. Erin xo
Good video! I'm curvy but right now in the size 8 range. Thank you for the tips, I learned a few things!
Glad it was helpful, Robin! xo
OMG! such fantastic information...some of it I knew but some i will be paying attention
to and looking for! Thank you! I believe this will be a game changer.
Going to watch the video about jean manufacturers now.... ;))
Wonderful! Thank you!
I'm so glad you found jeans that you really love! It can truly be a tough task to accomplish... Thanks for sharing, Cheryl! xo
Great video. I was never one for buying jeans . Though I have plenty that friends have given me. I am really going to make an effort and find out what suits
Thank you! Finding that perfect pair of jeans is a challenge, but SO worth it. xo
I just learned good jeans are not stretchy but these days many jeans are.
I wear a 0 long and even though I'm 68, American Eagle jeans fit me best. I hve slim hips and the AE jeans are good for that. Also, they hit all the right points for pocket placement, etc. AE also has curvy fit for girls with more assets.
I love AE jeans I have worn them since high school. Also I feel like they last for years and years if u take care of them!!!
Wonderful video! Thank you so much. I would love to see a video on hats, how to wear them and what is the appropriate etiquette. BTW, I am a shorter, curvy gal and nothing makes my legs look longer then a pointy toe shoe! Thanks!
This came just in time. My daughter and I are going jeans shopping this weekend!
Thank you so much for this ..u r so informative...u r one who cleared all ma doubts about fitting ..I wish u should get more subscribers..
Very informative and helpful! 🌷
We are thankful for your knowledgeable tips...
I would love to see jeans on woman’s bodies that aren’t teeny but different heights/shapes/weights. 😉
Right. Actual real body types. I'm especially interested in how to work with thick legs and thighs
UA-cam has many of those videos :)
Just go to walmart.
It would be fun to have Erin post several affordable outfits then have viewers submit dupe photos of different body shapes so viewers can see. Maybe tweeking a tuck, neckline or accessories to make the outfit work for the body type.
I have a flat bottom and this is so frustrating with Jean's. I would love more info/suggestions on this topic.
Very good tips! I never realized all this goes into buying a jeans! Thank you ❤️🌹
You're so welcome, Mary! xo
I loved that small pockets help defy gravity! Great video, Erin!
So glad this was helpful! xo
Wow. Excellent video. I learned a lot from it. Thanks for sharing your expertise with ya
Jeans are my fav😘 I wear them on a daily, they are just so comfy to wear💋💋
Thanks I wear high rise jeans your spot on 🦋
I needed a refresher!
Just make sure you check the inseam before choosing...Many run short, but would look super cute as cropped jeans on someone of your height. xo
