I definitely have done that. You have definitely nailed your signature style. You always look impeccable. Thanks for your tips Erin! 😊
Love the rear view tip. When I was a little girl, I would watch my mom getting ready for church, and i noticed that she spent a lot of time on the back of her hair. When I asked her why she spent more time on the back than the front, she said because people actually see the back side of you more than they see the front. And its true. I am a plain girl but I go crazy over tops with detail on the back because of what my mom told me.
I have a friend who loves to iron. She says it's relaxing and satisfying. She wears nothing but linen. I don't even own an iron. If it doesn't smooth out in the dryer, I donate it. I don't actually own any linen!
When going to my car in a parking lot, I saw this fabulously dressed woman - definitely senior - her outfit was great, but watching her stumble around in stilettos was pretty painful. Made a mental note to self - if I can't walk easily it doesn't matter how killer the shoe is - you will look ridiculous!
Yes! Totally age appropriate...as long as it is clean, fuzzy, comfy, and has pockets...need those pockets...(remote, wine glass, chapstick.... wine glass...)
Great tips I’m so happy that I already do some of these tips. Thank you for validating my daily routine, especially checking out your back end. I’m a curvy girl so I’m always making sure there’s no lumps, bumps, or lines. Thank you again!!!
I’d love to see a video on shoes 👠 for aging feet. I’d LOVE ❤️ to wear cute heels, but age has caught up to me. I need help finding feet friendly shoes. Many of us will end up with surgery for bunions etc. and afterwards still want to wear something pretty for an evening out. Help! I wear Dansko now all the time, but could use some advice on other brands and styles.
So funny. I tried to tell my daughter recently about big up top, skinny around the bottom and vice versa and she said nobody does that anymore. I guess it’s the Billie Eilish style. Quite like it actually.
Videos from this channel keep popping up on my news feed, and I keep watching them, even though I'm 28. :D I find them very informative even for a little younger audience.
So glad to read this! I’m 59, tall and considering buying a pair of high tops to wear with my cropped jeans. But I don’t want to steal my daughter’s style...it’s a dilemma!
Agree. I have a rare pair of really cute vans high tops and I don’t think they look any sillier or inappropriately young than some of the golden goose sneakers that fashion influencers go nuts over. Vans and chucks for life.
@@debbiedaniel9774 I think Converse can look feminine. I have several pairs but probably prefer regular sneaker over high top. I play with the lacing for different looks. You can go funky, classic, prep, girlie, change lace colors and textures. I go without socks look (low-rise footies) or color for accent or fun prints. I did dress up a pair with male dress socks when wearing a white over sized shirt and simple sweater for causal day at work. (Edit: sometimes I turn down the high top like a collar and I have done this with peakaboo sock and the without look---i don't actually recommend going bare in converse or you'll get that sneaker foot odor that boys get!--lol) If you make the sneakers your own? They won't be a style steal of your daughters. I had been wearing mine for years before Oprah Winfrey starting sporting them. All of the sudden half of the women over 40 in my neighborhood got a pair. My first pair of "boy sneakers"? It was the 70s. Some elephant leg jeans just needed them!
Hi! I am new to this channel and loving it! Would like to see how you would recommend styling yourself if you do carry an extra 20 pounds. Maybe with a heavier model? I see how the boxy look does age you, but don't know if I can pull off the styles you recommend with the menopause tummy weight. (Saw your video on that as well and found it helpful and motivating.)
Welcome! SO glad you are enjoying my channel! We are working on ways to incorporate different body shapes onto the channel, but for now you may find these videos helpful: ua-cam.com/video/3o5uENioU90/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/EYKQZWuln4M/v-deo.html
Hi Erin, I remember when my excessively chic step-mother went from stilettos to a shorter, block heel. Now that I've reached that same plateau in life, I completely get it. Believe you me, when you're in your late 40s, it is NOT an issue to wear the heels you do. Enjoy it! At some point however, there are many anatomical issues that prevent most women from safely wearing them, myself included. So....it would be very wonderful if you would do a video on shoes that can be stylish for those of us over 55. Keep in mind that in the winter, heavy socks are a must, so we need shoes that accommodate the aging, cold feet. I am specifically looking for the right shoes to (warmly) wear with straight leg jeans (not skinny, cropped or ankle length...those will forever be "high waters" in my book) full length and straight leg pants. Ballet flats are TOO cold!! Flared pants are not a problem, nor are skirts and dresses. Please help!
I've found that my Docs work well under straight jeans-there's enough room& they good for a casual vibe. Sock boots- i know they're not 'in' but they just slide right under jeans& you can wear the socks you need. Same with any skin line boot. I started buying shoes socks with toes from Daiso, because you can't see them under my boots& they don't move due to the toes...
I LOVE my beanies. It's so cold where I am, and I love how they look. But with everything else, I agree. I am finally freeing myself from prints--don't feel the dowdy prints bringing me down and it's so much easier to put outfits together with solids. I feel a lot more stylish these days b/c of you--thank you!
I agree to find YOU and dress that way and even style your hair for YOU. I had medium to long hair, recently cut it short. I look 10 years younger and it suits my hair type. No use trying to put a round hole in a square peg. Costs more and doesn't work.
Great tips. Plus sized women have limited choices. You find something beautiful, look at the label - 100 % polyester. I sweat like a racehorse, as many women do in polyester. Or you find something else. Meets all your guidelines. Then you look at the price tag. $350.00 for one blouse. Uh, not for me. This is reality for many of us.
Me three! I'm 34. I'm liking this gals' approach. I've seen this style of basics on women of all ages and it just looks good. Even my grandma in law (88!) And if you're in your 20's, you just look rich lolol.
Very Nice ideas for a “ chubby” woman, but when u put the examples on your body it is not the same. Maybe find a bigger size model so we can have a better idea? Thank you🌸
I wish people would stop referring to skinny jeans as jeans that are too small. Skinny jeans are a STYLE of jeans, not a size. If you are a size 8 and you try to squeeze into a 6, that doesn't mean they are skinny jeans.
This was my favorite video. Very light and fun and SPOT ON!! Erin, thank you for all of your help. Turning 50 stinks but it can be fun if you have help!!
Hey Erin I love your channel! I have a question. I am planning a trip to Disney this fall I want to be super comfortable but I don’t want to look frumpy or baggy I am 57 years old I want to look cute and cool yet comfortable do you have any suggestions for a five day Disney excursion? Thanks in advance!

We are all guilty of buying stuff for fantasy self. Says girl with closet packed with flats, but still buys stilettos cause it looks great in offices in movies🙃
This video is so informative but at the same time, so entertaining & hilarious, especially with the exaggerated demonstrations 🤣 Good job on the great content & effective delivery, as always, Erin 👏👏👏
Today I was in the "Wrong Mood for the Right Time in Life" (yes, I am quoting myself). I stopped by to check in on what's up on your channel. It's really nice to hear from others that I try to practice what I know to be true. Erin, you nailed it. There is ALWAYS something to be reminded of & to work on. Truly happy I can watch you without regret of personal time wasted. Like most of us we are more blessed than we think, and yet evolving and hitting "our" marks while maturing isn't always easy, I sincerely Thank You for your passion & honesty ! I really did enjoy this piece very much.
I'm 42 and my wardrobe is so confusing now lol. I am constantly feeling like items are too tight, too loose (matronly), too short, too long (making my short frame look frumpy and older) or too young (i.e., trying too hard) or too old. Really trying to find my 'happy place' with my clothes at the moment.
I’m the same age as you and I’ve always tried to dress fashionably, but I’m like you at this stage- confused, but trying to find a new normal for my forties. I so don’t want to look like I’m dressing like a 20 something year old.
I agree with your bonus tip. My friends can wear a flowy kimono but I can't with my pear shape silhouette. Here's another tip about bra size, don't get your measurements from Victoria Secrets. For years I was wearing a bra strap that was two inches too big because they measure over the top of your breasts instead of where the bra strap is placed.
Much to my shock and dismay, I checked my old bra’s fit, and the girls were looking off to the sides...yikes! So , thanks to you, the girls are now up front and center...woohoo!
I also use a blazer and jeans for my uniform. Since covid I wear a turtle neck to avoid the whole mask thing. If I go in a store that requires one, I just pop it up over my mouth. I'm in a state with no mandates so it works.
I despise jeans, because I'm short and not a skinny person. Even when i was thin i didn't like then, so learned to embrace slacks. Its amazing how the rigjt slacks can make you look, thinner, taller and classier.
OMG, I'm so thrilled I found your channel! I've been searching forever for some one Like you. You are absolutely amazing & on point with everything! I have so much to learn and change.... Thank you so very, very much, you've helped me to want too get out of this awful slump in my life and not give up. I just can't thank you enough for what you do! 🤗🤗🤗
A quick way to take wrinkles out of a fabric is to throw 4 to 5 ice cubes into the dryer, add the garment and dry on a low temperature until you cannot hear the ice cubes rattling. Immediately pull the garment out of the dryer and hang it up. I do this for blazers and for some things that are difficult to iron.
I want to dress for my lifestyle. I live in Hawaii (surfer all year long)where its very casual and wearing cut off shorts, flannel and flip flops are appropriate at all ages. Comfort is key
In general not a floral or pattern person but what I think is that the way to wear these is to be mindful of scale. You are petite therefore petite florals look better on you. Folks of larger stature can and should look for florals of a bit larger scale. IMO it’s attention to scale and proportion that make these elements sophisticated modern and successful for women “of a certain age”
I don't agree...I still prefer smaller prints on women of larger stature. In my opinion, larger prints just make them look larger. That said, wear what you are most comfortable with...these are only my suggestions. Thanks so much for watching! xo
If it needs ironing I rarely buy it .Yes with too tight , it’s hard to say goodbye to bodycon and I’m over 60. Can’t live without T shirt bras .Worn new jeans out with those stickers still on the back , all the way down the legs 😀
Wow Erin. Great video. With all the fashion as ice a IlBle on utube, you are the one I trust and admire most. As an almost 70 woman who works as a nanny, I want to make my family and clients proud of me. I am so happy to be in this stage of life and I want to rock it. You did it! I can't believe it! ( in a good way). So excited to see this video. Thanks for everything, the emails, the newsletters, the website. You're doing an awesome job. God bless you.
I always appreciate your videos but I still think people should wear what makes them happy. Anyone over 40 will likely not really care what anyone thinks. I’m almost 52 and I wear a beanie in the winter. I love it and never feel like a teenager. Just my opinion....
Of course...that has always been my channel's message. That said, my viewers come to me for concrete tips. Use the ones that speak to you and leave the ones that don't. Thanks for watching. xo
There was nothing more embarrassing than being excited to introduce my Mom to my friends and having her show up in a head to toe baby phat outfit...in 2012🥴
They are not perfect, but I find them extremely helpful. Retailers will often have generic ones that can be misleading. I often go right to the brand's website (even when shopping at a department store site) and look at their brand specific chart...these are much more accurate. xo
I always feel when someone dresses too young then it immediately calls attn to their age, but if you tone it down a bit with one cool piece then people focus on your style. That blue dress in the video is soo cute- I think that we need a cocktail dress video - dos/don’ts
I appreiate how you always include yourself as you preface various "mistakes" videos. So we don't feel alone or particularly foolish. Very kind of you! :)
Plz also discuss curvy body types or people who has one problem area like belly or thighs. It’s very hard to find right size of tops or bottoms for these body types. For me I have bigger belly, if I go up a size then it’s off on shoulders/chest etc etc. Love your videos 💕
Love this video! Stress ages! I found disconnecting from the TV, removed a lot of my stress. Their ‘programming” was taking a toll on my health. I cancelled my cable and also Alexia! Tired of having all our conversations listed too! I use to keep the TV on for background sound, found silence is sooo much better!
That was hilarious when you fell down in the heels! I wear outfits like the one meant to be "your teenage daughters". (white jacket, black baggy jeans, sans the bra top and beany). That's my covid uniform. xo
As far as wearing close too tight or too loose, what do we do who are pear shaped? In most cases, I have a choice of too tight in the hips, or too loose in the bust/back.
I'll link my Triangle body shape video here for you: ua-cam.com/video/ra0D8nmqvbk/v-deo.html You will probably need to get your pants tailored for the perfect fit. Many of us have trouble fitting perfectly into clothing right off the rack! xo
OMG.....HOLY MOLY I literally laughed out loud when you turned around in your video & showed us the toilet paper sheets hanging out of the back of those culottes!!! That was actually me once as I hurriedly ran out of my house after using the bathroom without first checking the back of my outfit......please, please, please... anyone who reads this " Do Not Do This".....it's soooooo embarrassing!!! Check yourself before leaving your house. A woman I knew told me about it as I arrived at my destination & thank goodness no one else was around, so I instantly ran into a restroom without notice to fix the problem!!!! Thank you for mentioning it Erin 💟💜💟
...and 1) no bat wing tops 2) no ripped jeans 3) ugly shoes! I remember back in the day, I wore thigh high hosiery stockings, the ones that grip your thigh with a rubbery lacey thing... @@SleepStoriesASMR That's the trick! I was just about to comment same.
Great advice...SO true! xo
Who are these aliens that love to iron...lol
Right? xo
I have a friend who loves to iron. She says it's relaxing and satisfying. She wears nothing but linen. I don't even own an iron. If it doesn't smooth out in the dryer, I donate it. I don't actually own any linen!
I love to iron, it relaxes me😁😌
This is hilarious. The TP😄👍
If it needs ironing yes if not no!
Broken hip, just waiting to happen!
Makes me crazy.. I know of ladies who should use a cane and wear inappropriately high with shoes with no socks and complains she cold and falls argghh
Block heels solve a lot of problems! 😀
I don't wear heels higher then 2 inches 👠 why suffer?
I remember the What Not To Wear show, they really emphasized age appropriate clothes and all the things you covered Erin
Great video!
Thank you! I used to love that show too, Terri! xo
Man I miss Stacey and Clinton!
I loved that show.
Loved that show.
32 years old and I started watching you in my 20’s. You have such great, classic style advice that could work for any age range! Love it all ☺️
Thank you SO much, Jean! xo
I wish Erin would do a video where she asks viewers for pictures with them dressed, and she critiques the viewers clothing
Great suggestion! xo
Sitting here in my huge fuzzy robe, wondering if it's age-appropriate... :P (Thank you for another great video!)
Always appropriate first thing in the morning, Alice! Have a great day! xo
Lol. Me too.
Im reading through all the comments and you literally made me laugh out loud and almost choke on my peanut.
😂
You are so welcome! xo
Cracked me up when you tripped🤣🤣I couldn’t wear half that size heel🤓
I’d love to see a video on shoes 👠 for aging feet. I’d LOVE ❤️ to wear cute heels, but age has caught up to me. I need help finding feet friendly shoes. Many of us will end up with surgery for bunions etc. and afterwards still want to wear something pretty for an evening out. Help! I wear Dansko now all the time, but could use some advice on other brands and styles.
Have you seen this video, Tina? ua-cam.com/video/VAlnB-JfU7c/v-deo.html
Glad you like them! There is a lot of good information in these videos for women of all ages! xo
Loved this, Erin! I agree with so many, and guilty of a few 🤪 ❤️ Lisa
Aww...thank you, Lisa! We are all guilty of a few 😂❤️
Omg right I’m getting addicted to your channel and believe your tips are so on points. ❤️💕🥰🤩💜
@@sassydoe9407 Well thanks Sassy, so appreciate the kind words. Taking time to pay attention to my style, is a compliment always. Thanks ❤️
Converse sneakers are always age appropriate. It's all in how you lace.
I’ll be wearing Converse hi tops to the senior home lol
(Edit: sometimes I turn down the high top like a collar and I have done this with peakaboo sock and the without look---i don't actually recommend going bare in converse or you'll get that sneaker foot odor that boys get!--lol)
If you make the sneakers your own? They won't be a style steal of your daughters. I had been wearing mine for years before Oprah Winfrey starting sporting them. All of the sudden half of the women over 40 in my neighborhood got a pair. My first pair of "boy sneakers"? It was the 70s. Some elephant leg jeans just needed them!
@@Cloudsandcurls1303 me too! I got my first pair in 1970 and wore them with elephant leg jeans!
I needed this so much... I find myself dressing too young in summer, and have found it difficult to dress my age and look elegant and put together.
You're so welcome! xo
The more of your videos I watch the more I love how you help everyone find their own style & be happy with our bodies ❤️
You are SO sweet, Barbara! Thank you! xo
Thank you Erin for championing us over 40 ladies ❤️
You're SO welcome, Donna! xo
Great video! Yes on logo overload and being able to walk in shoes! Thank you, Erin!
Thank you, Belinda! xo
Love your style. Please do more videos with outfit suggestions. Thank you. 💖
Thank you! Will do, Dee! xo
The all black outfit, with the elegant necklace, was so classy! That was right up my alley!❤
So glad you liked it! xo
I love crop tops and will continue to rock them while I still can. LOL! :)
Go for it! xo
As you should.
They are fine with high waisted bottoms, especially.
I’m 30. But I’m at that point where I don’t want to look “young” anymore. I don’t want to look trendy and unsure of myself if that makes sense
I'm 33 I can relate. Where do we fit 😆
Me three! I'm 34. I'm liking this gals' approach. I've seen this style of basics on women of all ages and it just looks good. Even my grandma in law (88!) And if you're in your 20's, you just look rich lolol.
Actually, I think we're in the "ok I'm done looking stupid 5 years later" phase.
LOL - the part where you were walking in the high, high, heels and your dog was like "um, Mum? what's doin'?"
You are too funny! xo
Very Nice ideas for a “ chubby” woman, but when u put the examples on your body it is not the same. Maybe find a bigger size model so we can have a better idea? Thank you🌸
Erin. Help us with hats! Ahhhhh. Gotta wear one when walking and outside in the summer. Sunburn scalp is NOT pretty. Thank ❤️
Heck yeah! I’m not dressed without a hat!
I wish people would stop referring to skinny jeans as jeans that are too small. Skinny jeans are a STYLE of jeans, not a size. If you are a size 8 and you try to squeeze into a 6, that doesn't mean they are skinny jeans.
Great tips, Erin, and I loved your dog watching you try to walk in those high heels 😂.
Thank you, Pat! xo
This was my favorite video. Very light and fun and SPOT ON!! Erin, thank you for all of your help. Turning 50 stinks but it can be fun if you have help!!
You are so welcome! Glad you enjoyed it! xo
wrinkles are why I never wear linen.
I'm with you! xo
Except it means you look relaxed and chic
Not too American.
I have two great Disney videos that should help you plan: ua-cam.com/video/uunbwYFHMZU/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/uFPwU5GQV-g/v-deo.html I show you exactly what I wore each day! I hope you have a great time, Marla! xo
Thank you SO much, Roxi! xo
I think any heels over 85mm are a hard no. I love heels but my days of 4” plus heels are over.
This was so informative, so thank you very much Erin for sharing. I am a new subscriber and very new to UA-cam. Good morning from Australia 🇦🇺
Glad it was helpful! Welcome! I'm SO glad that you found my channel! xo
My pet hate is when you see black bra under white/pale top and lacy bra you can see under a top
Finding that balance can be tricky. I hope that this video was helpful! xo
I’m the same age as you and I’ve always tried to dress fashionably, but I’m like you at this stage- confused, but trying to find a new normal for my forties. I so don’t want to look like I’m dressing like a 20 something year old.
Just because you can wear it.....doesn’t mean that you should.......
Thanks for sharing! xo
34DDDD here and I find Natori bras run small. Never fit me propetly. Soma smooth backs are good.
Much to my shock and dismay, I checked my old bra’s fit, and the girls were looking off to the sides...yikes! So , thanks to you, the girls are now up front and center...woohoo!
I had the best laugh when you fell in the Loubies!! 🤣🤣🤣 that’s me!
2 sided tape for those blouses that are a tad too tight at the buttons. I think I learned that fro you 😉
Wonderful video, thank you❣️learn something new every time I watch 😍
You are so welcome! That's SO nice to hear! xo
I've been searching forever for some one
Like you. You are absolutely amazing & on point with everything!
I have so much to learn and change....
Thank you so very, very much, you've helped me to want too get out of this awful slump in my life and not give up.
I just can't thank you enough for what you do! 🤗🤗🤗
Wow, thank you! You are SO sweet, Susan! Welcome! xo
Love your sense of humor with the fashion "don'ts." Agree that the proper undergarments are a game-changer!
Thank you, Victoria! xo
What a great tip, Alice! Thanks for sharing! xo
I want to dress for my lifestyle. I live in Hawaii (surfer all year long)where its very casual and wearing cut off shorts, flannel and flip flops are appropriate at all ages. Comfort is key
As you should! You still have a style uniform...it's surfer casual! xo
Thanks so much for watching! xo
Once again - fantastic content. Another winner! Thank you
Thank you, Debbie! Glad you enjoyed it! xo
If it needs ironing I rarely buy it .Yes with too tight , it’s hard to say goodbye to bodycon and I’m over 60. Can’t live without T shirt bras .Worn new jeans out with those stickers still on the back , all the way down the legs 😀
I laughed when you fell down in your heels!
Wow Erin. Great video. With all the fashion as ice a IlBle on utube, you are the one I trust and admire most. As an almost 70 woman who works as a nanny, I want to make my family and clients proud of me. I am so happy to be in this stage of life and I want to rock it. Thank you so much for all you do.i appreciate you.❤❤❤
You are SO welcome, Alma! xo
Guilty of dressing too old for my age, all my life, and the uncomfortable high heels shoes...😬
Thanks Erin! Love your videos 💕
You are so welcome, Eva! xo
You did it! I can't believe it! ( in a good way). So excited to see this video. Thanks for everything, the emails, the newsletters, the website. You're doing an awesome job. God bless you.
You are so welcome! Thanks for being so SWEET, Eria! xo
You're such a great comedy actress! 🤣👍
I try, Joanna! xo
Omg, you are the only stylist that has me 😂 laughing! That falling down with your heels scene - priceless! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed, Lauren! xo
Ok but you really look unapologetically amazing in the crop top beanie outfit tho 😅🙏❤❗amazing body Erin but i understand the idea 😊😊😊
Thank you! xo
Agreed!
Thanks for watching. xo
There was nothing more embarrassing than being excited to introduce my Mom to my friends and having her show up in a head to toe baby phat outfit...in 2012🥴
Oh no! I bet, Amani! xo
That reminds me of Regina's "cool mom" in Mean Girls. Lol
I find size charts are not always true to measurements, too.
When you faked tripped I loved it, thank you for making us laugh!
You're SO welcome, Kerry! I had to take one for the team! xo
You have such a funny personality! I love watching your videos for the content, but your humor is amazing!!
Thank you so much, Denna! xo
That's my problem as well
Love this video! Stress ages! I found disconnecting from the TV, removed a lot of my stress. Their ‘programming” was taking a toll on my health. I cancelled my cable and also Alexia! Tired of having all our conversations listed too! I use to keep the TV on for background sound, found silence is sooo much better!
The challenge is trying to find these things! I’m still searching for a high quality cotton reasonably priced white T basic that is flattering.
Have you seen this video where I tested out a bunch of different white tees? ua-cam.com/video/sb0EY8F4LZk/v-deo.html
Great tips! Fav part was falling in heels 👠 ha! It’s good you can laugh at yourself 😃
I love my Chucks, especially the Shoreline slip ons,I have every color . That is my biggest sin !
M from india...& Mostly we don't wear this type of cloths...but your tips r very useful..👍
Glad to hear that, Vaishali! Thank you for the comment! xo
...and 1) no bat wing tops 2) no ripped jeans 3) ugly shoes! I remember back in the day, I wore thigh high hosiery stockings, the ones that grip your thigh with a rubbery lacey thing... I was walking down the hall at the office...when one of them crept down, went over my shoes...and I was trailing that dang thing like nobody's business!
