we took our doggie where some family members where riding dirt bikes, my dog was having fun running behind them all day but when we came back home he developed that cherry eye, I was sad for letting run behind the quads because maybe the dirt got in his eye after reading what it was and how it was going to possibly get handled I cried to sleep that night because he would possibly need a surgery I would need to apply eye drops for the rest of his life. I was very fortunate that when we woke up the following morning I didn't need to take him the the vet because the cherry eye was gone. what a relive. I learned my lesson of not letting him run behind quads to avoid getting his eye. This condition never developed again during his lifetime luckily. but now is something one has to becareful and maybe have them wear protective eyewear when they stick their head out in the car and stuff like that.

Hi Dr! I am in 3rd year studying at OP. I've been using your videos as a way of understanding pathologies. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. Very inspiring to see a South African vet creating content :) All the best to you!

My boerboel is suffering from cherry eyes. We took her to the Vet for the procedure, in about a week's time it was back. I was very disappointed.

Most clinics in our country recommend removal since the first option has a high chance of recurrence even for the 2nd time surgery. I hate the removal of cherry eyes as well since it takes away the part of the tear production.
The only solution is to stop breeding dogs with this condition.
I already planned to have a dog years ago but the breeder did not disclose the condition of the dog parent. I have no choice but to take care of my dog. I love my dog even though she has the condtion but it's painful to see my pup to have this condition.
Breeders should be responsible and should not give painful problems with the pup and owner. Money should not be the only reason why breeders breed dogs.

    Sir, I'm from India.
I've a 1 year old labrador, due to the corona pandemic i couldn't take him much for walks during his puppy hood.
Now , when i try to take him for walk, he tries to escape from the harness and to run away to the stray dogs, and if he sees a female stray dog he bites me to let him go to her.
It becomes very difficult for me to handle such a bulky dog in such kind of situation. Therefore i have to keep him inside the house every time.
What shall i do to avoid this?
Will this behaviour go with time or it will stay forever?
    Hoping for Dogtor Pete's reply.
