It could also possibly have been done to throw people off the scent. If you open loose packs and find a delver you are far less likely to assume the packs are repacks, even if the rest of the cards are worthless.
Unfortunately there's not :( You can never know if you're pulling actual Diablo sauce or a very convincing knock off. For this reason, i've stopped going to Taco Bell. Truly a sad era to be alive.
Rudy, Can I send you some of the most obvious repacks ever. These things are being sold in a regional chain store at more then one location and I haven't had a clue where I should be reporting it.
I may be wrong, but aren't the packs made of metallic BOPP? and are thermosealed? If so, there never is supposed to be any glue in any factory packed booster...
thx for the info, now it makes sens because it would be too easy to figure it out even tho the temperer are scummy , there will always be a trace somewhere , but it sucks that it has come down to this /smh
yeah these are thermosealed the reason why they use glue is to keep the original thermo seal marks there and get the seal to hold better. but here is the thing you dont even need glue just use an iron to reseal thats how easy it is now
Correct, that is why they have that texture, it is a little like heat-shrink. They don't use glue because there is too great a chance there might be a misalignment with a glue-dispenser and then you get a whole batch of glued cards.
I bought an entire lot of 40 booster packs from an online vendor and every pack was super glued at the bottom. When I called them they acted like they didn't know but I told them either I dispute the charges or they make it right. They ended up telling me I could keep the packs. What's funny is some of the packs had pokemon cards in them. I suspect they bought packs at wal-mart, took the hits out and resealed them with other commons, uncommons and pokemon cards. Is there any legit honest people out there anymore?
They put Pokemon cards in Magic packs? Why would anyone do that? It's a dead giveaway and saves you no money vs just putting another common Magic card there...
It seems weird MTG hasn't developed some type of tamperproofing for their packs, like sealed ends that rip open un-evenly or leave traces behind that can't but stuck back together
Rudy I think it would be cool if you or someone within the MTG community made a black list for Ebay sellers that are known scammers and they should also get reported. Maybe a forum dedicated to MTG. There is one for Pokemon run by Smpratte.
Erick Maynard yeah they do but they can't change their real names or their emails that easily. Once you figure it out they could be blacklisted again. It seems to be working on EFour.
It's trivial to change an email and not much harder to open a paypal under a fake name. I don't doubt that it works to a degree because people that do that sort of thing tend to be fairly stupid and/or careless, but if you made it a point to cover your tracks it would be fairly easy to do.
"Buy sealed booster boxes" is still the worst advice you can give to the general MTG community. Most players simply don't have the money to drop on whole boxes. Especially when it comes to older sets where you might find a couple packs at an LGS but not a whole box. If anything I'd say buy singles, but now those are being faked more too, right? Oh, and sometimes even boxes are resealed. Honestly, let people spend money how they want, because there is no magical perfect answer at this point.
Just realized that It makes sense that scammers would reseal at the bottom because most of the time when you open booster packs you open them from the top. This is probably common knowledge I just realized it mysekf
Rudy, I have fakes I bought online (Chinese fakes. $20 for 50 different cards. I got them Just for fun I'd never sell them I don't even use them in EDH) however when you rip the ones I have there's blue in the middle just as you showed. The funny thing is, is that the print and card stock quality it terrible but it does have he blue. If you want me to send pics or make a video or even send them to you let me know. I have no use for them other than I leave the power nine on he first page of my trade binder to give people heart attacks!
Johnny S. well I guess the insides of the cards won't really matter then because most people buying a PSA graded booster pack aren't looking to crack them open, even if they were Alpha
From my experience of collecting sports cards its often not the case, people buy expensive PSA or GAI graded packs to be sure they were not tampered with and they have a chance for big hits (still big chance of losing money, but hey its for fun), wax packs are so easy to reseal, its ridiculous. Given that MTG vintage packs are easily searchable, I think almost all graded packs have no hits in them.
Just a note on this; I have left things in my car for a long time and the heat has done odd things to them. Considering they were in his glovebox for 2 years with summer/winter temps, I am not surprised that the glue looks and feels weird.
Also notice how in one of the packs, the basic land was in the back, but in the other 3, the tips/tricks card was before the DFC. And one of them even had a DFC *AND* a tips/tricks card. Fishier than a Long John Silver's.
They left the delver in because these were resealed years ago, back when delver wasnt that expensive. if these were resealed when INN was still in standard delvers were much more common and were under around 50 Cents i think.
The guy literally said it was double sided tape they used to reseal those, which is why you get that yellowing and why it was still sticky after all that time.
I don't know why wizards wouldn't add a tear line so when you pull on the rear tab it tears open so it can never be resealed. I mean if they can do it with pricing labels (people used to try and switch pricing labels so they added score lines so labels come off in pieces instead of one piece) there's no reason they can't do it on card packaging. That's pretty scary for someone who rarely ever buys Magic Cards but still enjoys getting some every now and again. I don't think this obviously effects box purchasers unless they can tamper with the box seal... jeez. There must be a lot of profit in counterfeiting these damn things. Wizards needs to do something, and fast.
I've heard board game manufacturers on podcasts talk About how they produce their cards and blue core is what's commonly used for TCGs. There's grey core, blue core and black core; and that's in least to most expensive order.
Most super glue is made up of Ethyl cyanoacrylate They used something more like Butyl cyanoacrylate the more commercial version less likely to discolor from absorbing moisture from the air. Wizards uses a off the shelf Multipurpose ContactAdhesive from 3M for the original glue
These type of reseals have been done for years, and the places where you can return unwanted/incorrect packs are the places you would see this more. The store owners wouldn't even know. Most chains now have the individually packed in cardboard versions these days, that eliminate these repacks. But hobby stores still have separate boosters
I bought 5 lapis cluster starter decks (force of will) from coolstuffinc and the booster packs were searched. the starter deck packaging is just a plastic case that can be opened and closed. the packs were like partially opened on the top corner, not sure if it was just looked in, or only partly resealed. all the packs had complete junk, mostly repeats of the same terrible rare. usually you get 1 textured foil in each starter deck, but i got none out of all 5. i emailed coolstuff but not no reply, so either they didn't believe me, or knew about it. i tried telling other people on facebook, but they didn't believe they were searched/repacked. this video helps confirm my claim, and hopefully others will be aware of this issue as well.
It is very impressive. It would have been nice to show one of the fully opened wrappers with the factory seal on one side and the reseal on the other. As for the Delver, it could be the scammer was just interested in the mapped rares/mythics and taking out foils.
You have to remember the guy said the packs were sitting in his car for 2 years. 2 years before this video was uploaded, Delver didn't really have any value yet. Gotta think back in the appropriate timeframe.
how works this scam? They remove the rare and uncommon cards from original booster packs, and re-seal the booster packs with less valuable and rare cards?
I used to do the same thing when I ran my own card shop. I exclusively sold cards. I should have expanded to other products... Anyway. I used to do the same thing, but CLEARLY marked them as re-packs and would build a "lucky" booster out of a batch. Of course, it would be a few cycles behind. And mostly random, but I would purposely include a high priced card. This was well before the market got saturated and new sets weren't worth much. It drummed up a good amount of business. It was fun. But re-packs were always, clearly marked.
I think they used a very thin glue tape / doublesided tape to reseal the packs. You can clearly see the difference in the top and bottom, and clearly see the tape at 9:21 in the video. If you touch the part where there is the crimp seal but not the yellow tape, i bet its not sticky. You can also hear the difference when opening the top seal and the bottom seal. So those are repacked.
Hey Rudy, is there any chance I can get your thought on the Final Fantasy TCG Booster Box packs? I found out I can get them roughly.. $40 cheaper (at the cheapest prices) than they're selling on EBay, but I have no clue if it's something that'll go up in price later, or if a quick sell for $40 will be good.
I used to buy Yugioh/Pokemon/MtG packs, open them up, then replace the rares with shitty ones from my collection and use a Eurosealer to close the packs back up. Sold em 2/$5 at the comic book shop. I was like 12.
Thank you Rudy for showing the public the importance of checking your packs. You shouldn't buy loose packs online anyway due to mapping. While newer sets have gotten better at preventing mapping, it's still possible. A particularly scummy mapper wouldn't disclose their ability to do so, so a set could be already mapped and the public will never know. They could then map boxes and sell the garbage online. About the only time you should buy packs online is if they're explicitly marked as having been mapped and the person selling them sells them at a reduced rate. People sometimes do this so they can draft with friends. It's still frowned upon because a person could buy the mapped packs and then resell them as not mapped.
Multiple Reasons. One of which we all know by now is to sell it to UA-camrs that open MtG products on their channel. The Hey look I opened lottery cards equals a lot of views, likes and ups potential of new subscribers while messing with the reality of re-packs.
the packs were probably resealed after the foils were weighed for. it almost looks like an adhesive spray, but it it was done a few years ago, most likely it was superglue
NOT glue it is double sided tape sir 3M 4462 Double Sided Foam Tape 1" x 5 Yds 1/32" Thick White 3M 4462 Double Sided Foam Tape 1" x 5 Yds 1/32" Thick White... you can get it in clear...
I'm guessing they ("the repacker") were looking for specific cards and if the pack didn't have what they wanted they would repack the entire pack, and keep packs containing the cards they wanted and sold the remaining cards in a bargain bin. just my guess. this is sad considering i only started playing and if I have to play against crooks and cheats why bother even trying.
Ye, I bought 4 Kaladesh booster packs some time ago from an online seller (very popular in my country) and I pulled 2x Whir of Invention and 2x Pia's Revolution. Concidence? Rly?
What these card companies need to do is seal the packages in a way if opened you can't just glue them back. Instead of just gluing them they can also use a welding tip or roller that has unique shapes/symbols that welds them shut so once opened it rips the package/foil. It could pretty much be done at no extra to very little cost. They could also do something with the glue that is one color but once fresh air hits it it changes after a few minutes so you know it's not been tampered.
Opening a normal pack you bought for comparison would have been helpful for people like me who do not buy often. Still get the point enough, it just would be cool to have seen what the bottom looks like normally.
Back then you could run the numbers to find out where the good cards are. I feel like the packs just feel funny from being in the car. All the heat and cold can make glue crunchy, slide when gout and soft etc.
Dude ur fuckin hilarious. Very imformative and descriptive. I've been a magic player since 94. I can relate to everything you say about these cards. I have recently been a victim of a counterfeit card scam which is what brought me to your videos. Keep up the good work. I'll never be scammed again. I'm like you now. A semi pro at detecting counterfeit Magic Cards. >=]
King Baschdor XD, it’s never too late to learn magic. It’s an awesome game, and if you play drafts at card stores, or at home with friends, it’s not too expensive of a “collecting” card game either.
That's your local players at LGS getting together and investing in a set to repack so they can keep the cards they like from it snazzy little investment without having to keep any other trash
so there are more tests you can do, I've learned from this channel The texture test, the glossyness/light reflectibility test and the thickness test. And color variations, with colors they are so subtle- yes, most people couldn't tell. Is there anything that can measure these things objectively, rather than subjectively? (people's opinions may vary) Like for example, people were asked to listen to a sound and asked which one was different from the others, most people couldn't tell, unless they used some kind of sound analyzer that could show you the sound waves themselves. Any tool you could use the measure the actual thickness?
There is no "wizards glue" though. The packs are sealed by pressing the plastic together with some heat. That's why the "wizards glue" isn't sticky, there's none.
I was ready to bet that the mtg wrap sealing solution uses 0 glue, only melting the 2 surfaces. I could be wrong, but guys if you feel ANY glue on your pack, I would bet it's a reseal. And Also Rudy, that glue you felt is a double sided 3M tape ;)
If this was done right when the set came out, Delver wasn't worth much, so it makes sense that they'd have just stuck it back in a repack.
Exactly what I was thinking.
And before box mapping made it possible to avoid getting sticky fingers. NEVER buy individual packs from Innistrad!
It could also possibly have been done to throw people off the scent. If you open loose packs and find a delver you are far less likely to assume the packs are repacks, even if the rest of the cards are worthless.
Even then, it's also a common. Not seeing one in a lot of packs would be fishy.
Could be that they were only going after high value foils too.
Any tips on spotting resealed Taco Bell sauce packs?
Unfortunately there's not :( You can never know if you're pulling actual Diablo sauce or a very convincing knock off. For this reason, i've stopped going to Taco Bell. Truly a sad era to be alive.

About the only time you should buy packs online is if they're explicitly marked as having been mapped and the person selling them sells them at a reduced rate. People sometimes do this so they can draft with friends. It's still frowned upon because a person could buy the mapped packs and then resell them as not mapped.
The person that sent them to Rudy said he bought them at an LGS not online. Even more Shady??!
What is mapping?
Mapping is when you know which pack has a good rare or something worthy of it. It is often caused by factories that make the packs.
James Willis so true
Regular sealing doesnt have glue, its heated foil and stamped. Sticky glue is easy to see/feel. Before opening is hard to tell though.
Multiple Reasons. One of which we all know by now is to sell it to UA-camrs that open MtG products on their channel.
The Hey look I opened lottery cards equals a lot of views, likes and ups potential of new subscribers while messing with the reality of re-packs.
They left the delver in because it was a 10c common that was 'unplayable' back when innistrad packs were on shelves
the packs were probably resealed after the foils were weighed for. it almost looks like an adhesive spray, but it it was done a few years ago, most likely it was superglue
NOT glue it is double sided tape sir 3M 4462 Double Sided Foam Tape 1" x 5 Yds 1/32" Thick White
3M 4462 Double Sided Foam Tape 1" x 5 Yds 1/32" Thick White... you can get it in clear...
Would've appreciated if you had shown the opening/bottom of a real Innistrad pack for comparison. Nevertheless, scary stuff!
You know it is a quality letter when every third word is misspelled.
My taco just went super floppy... in a bad way...
Last time I was this early, Rudy was a sane and sensible man.
Opening a normal pack you bought for comparison would have been helpful for people like me who do not buy often. Still get the point enough, it just would be cool to have seen what the bottom looks like normally.
there has to be something they can do to prevent this in future sets
This is why, regardless of how well I know a store, I buy only singles.I would buy boxed stuff in WOTC plastic, from a huge chain, but ugh.
lmao the grammar on that letter.. that's what happens when you choose mtg over school
"on that letter", be careful of your own grammar before picking at someone else's. Ok, champ?
Back then you could run the numbers to find out where the good cards are. I feel like the packs just feel funny from being in the car. All the heat and cold can make glue crunchy, slide when gout and soft etc.

"I'm fingering the--" then stops. hahaha
I dont even know anything about Magic cards, but still enjoying every single video!
King Baschdor XD, it’s never too late to learn magic. It’s an awesome game, and if you play drafts at card stores, or at home with friends, it’s not too expensive of a “collecting” card game either.
"..end of Magic as we now* it". Get nowed, Magic. Get nowed.
That's your local players at LGS getting together and investing in a set to repack so they can keep the cards they like from it snazzy little investment without having to keep any other trash
I've opened so many Manor Gargoyles...I think that nauseated me more than the actual repacks.
Hell, If judges can't tell a gen 5 fake, I'd try to make a whole constructed deck of those.
so there are more tests you can do, I've learned from this channel The texture test, the glossyness/light reflectibility test and the thickness test.
Hey Rudy, When you are showing us the difference between the real and fake cards, can you show us the light test too?
It probably wasn't even as noticeable until it got left in his car for so long and the glue dried out
There is no "wizards glue" though.
