    This was a heart breaking video. Much luck to you Greg and thanks for sharing your story with us all. Good news is people around the world are working tirelessly to find a cure and just 3 months ago researchers in Toronto may have found a breakthrough in treatment for Huntington's disease. Maybe some day in the near future we may see a cure. My hopes are high but like anything it will take time and a lot of trial and error.

      Not to be that guy, but your comment is not actually true. First, the disease is inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion (i.e., one copy is sufficient), however, it is only guaranteed if both parents are carriers (this was not specified, so cannot be certain. All the same, if the mother is not a carrier, there is a 50% chance to pass it on to the next generation.
      Second and final, he only said he tested positive - this is not a death sentence. While the CAG repeats needed to test positive at (what I assume to be) an advanced (non-juvenile) age usually means you will show symptoms, there is no way to know when, how serious or how aggressive the transformation will be.
      All the same, agree that it is heart-breaking, but just be aware that there is an equal likelihood of his children carrying the gene as not carrying it.

    • @AlexAyoub_
      @AlexAyoub_ 6 років тому +4

      Oh, I meant that they may not be carriers at all. Importantly, much of the active research in this either tries to capture the mRNA prior to the creation of the protein leading to aggregation or attempts to disrupt the aggregation event entirely.

    • @AlexAyoub_
      @AlexAyoub_ 6 років тому +5

      Go read about Mendelian genetics and how autosomal dominance works in disease when only one parent is a carrier. You do counseling to avoid both parents having the same genetic disease as that guarantees the passage to their children.

    • @jancukasu
      @jancukasu 6 років тому +1

      so bottomline of this discussion is: people with this kind of disease, please stop breeding so you won't contaminate the world by inheriting your unfortunate genes and stop the vicious cycle of unpreventable death?

    20:45 I had that moment. I got back into Magic about 10 years ago and broke out a couple of my old play decks from the early 90s in my LGS. Had a bunch of people playing around me and I broke out my deck with my friends and immediately went to do the shuffle like I used to. No idea of the value of the cards and what had become of the game. Cutting the deck, one half in each hand, bending them with my thumbs and the sound of those cards slapping one another as I shuffled them. The sounds that came from the people in that room, I can still remember it. I actually had a person come over to me and ask me to not do that anymore. This part of your video really reminded me of playing back in the day.

    Man, that first turn hypnotic... my favorite deck that I ran with until I stopped playing was a black/red discard/destruction deck, with beta dual lands and everything. Even in the early 2000’s when I got back into playing again in college, I for some reason insisted in playing all my vintage cards, raw. I used to buy up beta land so I could fill my decks with them. I beat the hell out of a lot of nice cards but I enjoyed playing them. Still have all my old cards, and decks inside of worn out 3rd edition revised boxes. That image really was 90’s magic decks. I remember the revised boxes were thinner than the newer boxes so I kept all my decks in those vs 4th edition or ice age boxes which were prevalent at the time. The early days of Magic brings me a certain nostalgia that I can’t describe. I started at the tail end of revised but I immediately did everything I could as a young teenager to collect the older cards of the time. So I did pretty well but never got ahold of any true very rare cards. But I have a lot of cool alpha, beta, unlimited, dark, 3rd, legends, antiquities, etc. the latest new cards I ever bought was probably homelands. Then I tuned out of following new sets. For some reason the inspiration that the older sets gave me wasn’t there anymore with what was in production at that point. But I did put together a set of ice age, which was probably the best set that was actually being produced during the time that I actively played and purchased but unfortunately even ice age was probably over produced. I always liked the dark as well but they were hard to find once I realized that I wanted the discontinued stuff. It’s great to see that there is a UA-cam community for the dinosaur MTG stuff. I collected baseball and sports cards as a younger boy, always interested in the old stuff, but once I discovered magic, that became my only real collecting interest from them on. That artwork man...

    Brings me back to my days in MTG. I joined in around 1995 with 4th Ed thanks to my neighbor introducing me. We played up until I turned 16 (2000) and I gave away all my cards to a friend of mine who still has them all. Since then I've been slowly getting a new collection started and I have a fairly decent amount of cards now, but it doesn't compare to the times I had when I was a kid playing against my neighbor and teaching the neighbor kids how to play. This video was awesome and you've got a new sub not only because your vids are entertaining, but nostalgia as well.

My dad got an old collection of bulk i think 8th and 9th edition cards along with a few other sets around the same year and gave it to me. I immediately called my friends to help dig through it to put valuables in binders and then choose which ones to use, we were kids and didnt care about money value only rarity value, if it was a mythic it went in the binder no matter what and only came out when trading or when going into a deck. Im now graduated from highschool and still play mtg with the same friends.

    Early Magic brings back memories of teaching my daughter to play and the simple pleasure of building decks with the cards you had. Killer Bees were, well, killer. Nobody had tournament decks, your friends told you how neat your deck was, and when you got that combo to work, life was good. It was a special time when every card had the chance to be good, based on your imagination.

    That was an emotional rollercoaster. Greg, best of luck to you sir, hopefully they will find a cure soon. I started playing MTG in 1994, and this proves to me that back then, everyone played the same decks! I had a goblin deck, a discard deck, a ramp deck, and some others. Very cool nostalgic trip down memory lane, thank you for that. I still have my unlimited sengir vampires (playset), unlimited Serra Angels (half playset), Hypnotic Specters (playset), and one of my favorite black cards Will 'O'the Wisp! I've left and come back to MTG many times over the years, and it's amazing to see where it has gone since the early days. Such an amazing transformative journey. The coolest part of the red deck was an artifact that kept 3/3 creatures and up tapped, so the little goblins could run free and do their thing.

    Wiz War??? OK, so I started watching this as I play Magic and have played from Revised. Then the vid talks about the owner. I played Wiz War from the third edition and was hooked. It's an amazing game and I played for years and years often thinking that the designers were amazing people. Obviously never having the chance to thank them for the hundreds of hours of pleasure they gave to me and my friends. Your Dad was a genius and affected my life in inspiring me to write rules and a lifetime of wargaming pleasure. Raising a glass tonight in his memory.

    That black deck is a lot like the deck my uncle still plays against me with to this day. He started in 1994-ish when I was a year old. I'm familiar with the t1 hippie.
    Fun fact: according to him, the folks he played with would actually have "ritual urns" on the table and when a card was hit with a "remove from game" effect they would sometimes tear it in half and burn it in the urn. I don't want to think that anything valuable was lost.

    In some communities, Canadian Highlander allows players to use World Champ and CE/IE cards just to increase player accessibility. Unsanctioned tournaments, which is unfortunate, but it gets players playing. Wouldn't it be cool if WotC just started allowing them in tournaments? Increases legacy card pool without breaking the RL. Just a thought.

    I had sold almost my entire collection around 10yrs ago, had several good decks, wurm, goblin, and I kept my elf deck! Now my son is wanting to play so I broke out the rest of my collection (3 decks), my elf deck and two newer decks from around 2005-2006, so now the craze is back on for me and also to get my son involved in magic! This is a great game to play and I still remember my school days playing MTG with friends and now I'm passing this knowledge along to the next generation! THATS a really cool collection and I know the owners was happy to enjoy them cause I enjoyed mine!

    Regarding the paper checklists. I now store my collection checklist on Google Sheets, where I even have completion percentages, % foilage, and even have a couple graphs for collection breakdown. I still have the paper checklist printouts that came from WotC's website back in the day, but those are going to be removed as I get to them.
