Great job and great finish! Thanks for sharing your experience. I was really hoping Hyrox wouldn't do some thing sooo Spartan like. But changing the weight at the "World Championship" race, not a good look. I was there working and judging all day and had no idea throughout. They kept it pretty close lipped apparently :)
I really wonder what they're going to do about those sleds going forward. To take off a plate when the sled seems excessively heavy sort of makes sense, but who makes that call and on what grounds? Do you add a plate if it seems too easy, too? Without something measurable to go by it'll end up just as arbitrary as it is now. Those 10m stations must have been a pain.. I do BBJ in the gym on a 10m lane on occasion, and I usually end up just short of the target, which basically means doing 4-8 extra burpees over the 80m distance just to get the last 20cm over the line. Same for the lunges. And then having to turn around with those KBs on the Farmer's Walk like you said... really adds a ton of time. Good thing they took a plate off the sled push 😛
Apparently, they claim that the sleds in total were the same weight as normal with the higher poles and slightly different sleds. But it seemed lighter overall and the numbers show it. I'd be okay with this weight on the sled because the sled weight might be a bit too heavy and inconsistent for a watchable product. I don't love changing things on the fly and I'd imagine there were a number of reasons why they made the call. And yea - WAY slower to stop and turn around. Physically and mentally more taxing. Not a fast course at all - but it was cool to have the fans around and crowd support present at all times.
@@RichRyan Ah right, that makes a bit more sense then. Total sled weight is a more useful metric than weight on the sled anyway. The weight must have been in the poles then if they didn't take off a plate for the pull? Having everything centered in the crowd does sound pretty cool!
Hey, awesome videos! Notes on tempo training are really helpful Question: what have you used for shoes? I’ve seen people in cross style shoes, running shoes, and some trail shoes. Trail seem interesting because of the traction on the sled
I typically use road shoes. A trail shoe with raised lugs will give you less surface area for grip. The carpet is not thick enough for the lugs to sink in, and they are not great on the concrete. I have a full video that goes through some of the things to look for.
That's a good question - I think the general principle will work in your build for an "A" race. I believe that the change in stimulus can lend itself to a bit more intensity during training while working on machines and strength work. I wouldn't go much further than 30% intensity either way.

Yea I would have had no idea if Dylan Scott didn't do his diligence. They didn't tell any of the AG competitors. I'm sure they didn't want us to know.
Great video, cool to hear break down. Looking forward to next training block. Like the idea of eating more and strong! 🙌
Let's get jacked!!

@@RichRyan Epic...that makes sense! Thanks for the intel. Hopefully see you at a race soon!
Great content as usual! How many hours do you typically train each week? How many hour running / aerobic vs how many hours moving weights in the gym
I'm between 12-14 hours per week. 12 is pretty typical and 14 during my peak build. It's around 70% aerobic/endurance training and 30% strength.
Thanks for this great content. Do you think that the 80/20 principle with 80% low and 20% high intensity trainung works for Hyrox?
