Your skill is not just the turning to creat these fabulous items but having the skill to pick out the right piece of wood that will give you the results you want. It is having that vision and experience. 👏👏
Elegant and beautiful. Whatever you did to make the maple wood grain pop like that really worked well. The way the grain flowed across the plater turned out perfectly. Great work!!
Crotch figure, curly figure, a well placed natural stain and some strategic bug holes (small inclusions?) for character. That blank had it all and you did it proud.
Hey Jack, such an under rated wood Maple, I personally love the grain, your platter is stunning. Classic design but the finish really helps show the natural wood. What finish do you use and where did you get the piece of Maple? Thanks for sharing
Hi Jim, For the finish I experimented with a light dye which I then sanded back. I then followed this with shellac sealer and topped it off with a few coats of microcrystalline wax. The wood was locally sourced in the North East of England but it was a very rare find! 👍🏻😊
An excellent piece! If you ever have any of those worn out foam sanding blocks, save them and warp them with you sand paper. I find they really help get a smooth finish across odd surfaces.
@@JackMackWoodturning I just retired Jack and an elderly neighbor (more elderly than me) is teaching me the art. I have a long way to go, but your videos have been very inspiring and educational for me. Keep up the good work!
Hi Lamar. It is an attachment for a rotary tool. I fix it to my dremel. Here is the link: www.axminstertools.com/axminster-flexible-shaft-carver-for-multi-tools-300100 Thanks for watching 😊👍🏻
Sorry for the slow response mate . It’s a power chisel but I’d not suggest this model as it spits grease on the wood. When I find a good one il recommend it. Thank you for watching 😊👍🏻
That seems like a sensible plan. I do like the idea of my pieces maintaining an air of mystery though. That way I keep the future generations examining my work guessing. 👍🏻
Beautiful !!
Thanks Turned. Glad you like it. 😊👍🏻

Great work, by the way.

Beautiful wood! Hey...Jack Mack...Didn't you play Paul Blart in Mall Cop? Plus you do wood turning!
You got me! What gave it away? 😂
@@JackMackWoodturning It was your accent.
I love your videos! What is the power chisel you use to take the nub off, please? I got to get one…

Awesome piece. What is that you used to take off the nub at the end??

The only thing missing is your signature.
Hi Mike. But where would it go! Thanks for watching 😊👍🏻
@@JackMackWoodturning On the bottom before the finish add the year and the type of wood. Thats what I do.
That seems like a sensible plan. I do like the idea of my pieces maintaining an air of mystery though. That way I keep the future generations examining my work guessing. 👍🏻
