There is a clip of her doing a song, and comments from Richard who was there. It all had to go through two interpreters. I know my comments may not make sense, but if you watch the clip, you will Understand. She is imitating the sounds she heard of Karen singing. . It was obvious to those who knew them that Karen was singing about herself in songs like “Goodbye to Love” and “I Need to Be In Love”. These songs made perfect sense when you look at Karen’s life, especially at her marriage to Tom Burris. That was really only for one reason: she didn’t want to be alone. There were several reasons for this. I won’t go into detail, but if you want to know more, I highly recommend reading Little Girl Blue: The Life of Karen Carpenter by Randy Schmidt. This goes into detail about in particular how certain members of her family pushed her to anorexia. Reading this book, you can see how Karen was crying for help through her songs-which she felt was the only outlet she had.

Dear Karen in heaven, I hope you see this. I remember when I was young, I lived in a small city in Asia. One day, I heard a song played from an old radio of an ex army. The song touched my heart deeply and I felt sad and happy at the same time but I did not know what song was all about since I did not understand English at all. Then, one day, I went to the record store near a market, I asked a lady who worked in the store for a song which I did not know the title, so I sang to her : Sha la la la (.???.) Ohh... That lady looked at me and laughed then after a while she brought me a cassette name The Carpenter. Then I realized that song called " Yesterday once More". Karen, you are my inspiration for leaning English since the day I heard the song and I still listen to your songs until today. You brought English language into my world, I can not say thanks you enough. Your voice is so sweet and incredible. God earned an angel. May you Rest In Peace.

There may be a misunderstanding of her problems that lead to her anorexia and death.
Though she needed the love and acknowledgement of her mother and family, in addition, the need to affirm her own self, I don’t believe the family mistreated her conscious of the cruelty.
She had a problem with the control of her own life, so needing the help of her family, they unfortunately became the controller!
She needed to develop a sense of self and independence. Unfortunately it became not obtainable with the family or without.

First off, let me say I Love Karens voice, she had PERFECT pitch!
      But....Its called personal responsibility.
Almost ALL families have sibling rivalry, or a parent giving more attentiin to a certain sibling some more intense than others.
To most people its not that big a deal or they ignore it.
Karen didn't.....I understand that but its still HER choice on how she handles the situation.
So it's ok to blame her Brother or Mother for her death but not Karen who chose to not follow doctors orders and friends and her families concerns for her not eating?? She went through therapy more than once for her condition.
If u think about it almost ALL families have SOME dysfunction, people r not perfect!
I'm just sick of all these posts on multiple videos playing the blame game and saying its everyone else's fault!
How do u think her brother feels when he reads that he's responsible for his sisters death?
He's a human being too and while he wasn't perfect and maybe selfish in some ways like we ALL can be....I think he still Loved his sister.

@@motorcitymanman7711 Look sorry about the rudness man but anorexia isn't something you can just walk out the door and and get cured quickly. It takes time, effort, and patience. Karen refused help because she wasn't sure exactly of what it was she was dealing with and so didn't take it seriously and I doubt much could be done to fully understand what anorexia was to help her anyway. It wasn't personal responsibly that was the issue it was denial which is a a symptom of having an ED. Also it wasn't just a case of sibling rivalry, almost everyone of Karen's friend's and people who worked with them said they witnessed her mother totally disregard and was very harsh to her and whenever she talked about her children's accomplishments, she complimented and raved over Richard yet she wouldn't say anything about her daughter and it was even said by her closest friends that she never even aknowleged Karen's talents. She even was nicknamed her "dragon lady" which is very telling if you ask me. And anorexia has bedn linked to parental abuse. While I don't doubt Richard loved his sister, he still could of supported and respected her wishes to do something on her own. It might of flopped, but least it could have gaven her a boost and helped her confidence. Even though I do not think Richard is an entirely horrible person to his credit, he at least knew of his sister's talents and cared enough about her to protect her from failing by going solo. But he did have control issues as said by everyone they and she knew as well. He had some goodness there But still it doesn't excuse him of being part of the problem.

Funny that she only wanted to be in the background playing as an expert drummer. But her brother, Richard, was the genius behind the music production. The Carpenters music was technically revolutionary. He was somewhat envious of her voice's fame as he never got the deserved accolades. Sad story but the music is timeless. The carpenters live on.

    • @ProwlingTiger1
      @ProwlingTiger1 3 роки тому +6

@@marswmnwhoever2188 Possibly because he might of been conditioned to think such a thing was normal, he had after all- grown up with his mother adoring him and being all for him from day one.
It's also possible that at some point he could of noticed and had tried to get his mother to be fairer and she just refused and or threatened to remove the adoration and love from him if he pushed the subject anymore, afterall he would of seen how being less loved (or not much at all) affected and damaged his sister and thus could of -deep down -feared it happening to him too.
Even if we argue that Richard shared some of the blame for going along with his mother favouring of him for whatever reasons, most of the fault as you said has to lie with the narcissistic, toxic mother.

One of her recordings that I personally love is her rendition of "This Masquerade". Such crystal, clear voice that's so soothing to the ears and goes deep in the heart. Her lower range voice is amazing too. I guess without Karen, Richard is almost insignificant. Gone to soon but never forgotten. Rest well, Karen.

The irony of it all is that the same energy that powers all that creativity and drive to succeed is the same energy that turns corrosive and leads some artists to an early demise. Boggles the mind that someone so beautiful, talented and charismatic harbored feelings of self doubt. I guess it's all a part of being human.

It's difficult to explain.

I STILL shed tears hearing Karen's beautiful voice and knowing that she was treated with such cruelty and such a lack of consideration by the woman who gave birth to her. All she wanted was to love, be loved and to be TOLD and SHOWN that she was loved by the woman who brought her into this world. Naomi Judd seemed to suffer the same cruelty from her mother. Where was Karen's father in all of this? Did Richard even stand up for or defend Karen to Agnes? Or, did he just vacuum up all his mother's attention to fill his own ego tank? He has said in interviews, "We weren't a touchy, feely family." Maybe Richard and his mother weren't (and HE knew who his biggest fan was), but, maybe Karen really needed that. It seems Karen didn't even get crumbs of their mother's love for Richard because there didn't seem to be any. Why would a parent not give their child what they need as an individual? I will never ever NEVER understand that dysfunctional family dynamic and will continue to grieve the sweet woman that everyone seemed to treasure except her own mother. 💔 Love you forever, KC. She was worthy of so much more in so many regards. I'm happy to have met her in July 1980 at A&M Studios during the recording of "PrimeTime Love" for the "Made In America" album. At my 60+ years of age, it was, and, still is, the thrill and highlight of my life. ♥️
