I don’t know if I can say I have a favorite, but one of my favorite memories was hearing Snowblind as a kid while listening through my dads cassette collection. I was just gifted an absolute trash used drum set because my dad said I had to prove myself to earn a good kit. Something about that ‘just behind the beat’ chill front half transitioning into almost non-stop bass drum playing has me listening to it on repeat in middle school during class so I could learn it haha. I earned me a new kit after a year of practicing to Black Sabbath, Nirvana, Allman Brothers cassettes, and Snowblind kicked off the fever.

That’s how part of the song Bill is. You can hear the whole song in your head hearing this without any other instruments required. My favourite drummer.

Wheels of Confusion is a perfect prime example of Bill Ward propelling the song forward by riding the backbeat; like a log-running lumberjack. His playing sounds drunk and stoney until he expertly hits those fills and tempo changes; showing that he's been in total control the entire time.

Bill is so underrated and over looked. The first album man it’s just a drum clinic. Neil Peart is an entirely different animal but it’s always about Bonzo enough said. But Bill Ward is my favorite. Add Geezer’s bass now you gotta pocket wooooo boy.

An inspired choice. An exceptional tune and quite unique given the orchestration. Love the Geezerific fade-out.
Over the past week, “Hole in the Sky” and “ Killing Yourself to Live” have dominated my consciousness.
      Qapla’!

I'm not a drummer (I've tried) but I always seem to end up back on your videos. I make midi drum tracks when writing songs on guitar/bass and it's easy to make it too straightforward when working on a grid. Bill Ward is one of my favorite musicians and I'm glad somebody takes the time to explain what makes his drumming so unique and inspired in the same breath

Sabotage is my favorite Musically Master of Reality Vocally they are all a close 1st to second favorites in some fashion, in my profile pic here he is standing next to me, when he was doing his Rock 50 Shows in San Pedro Port's 'O Call. Truly a very nice guy.

I think my favorite drum performance from Bill Ward is on Symptom of the Universe, he has some ridiculous fills in that song and overall that is certainly one of Sabbath's best songs. So many though, Bill is one of my biggest influences, Black Sabbath in general.

Hi Cobb - To begin, sorry for the length here, but your video is fantastic! In my early 20's, I latched onto the early Black Sabbath albums. Was always struck by the purity of their I love your breaking down of these songs. I'm only at the 5:24 mark (post Hand of Doom) and had to stop to say how much I've enjoyed hearing your background/history, and commentary of Ward's style. Last night, I watched the beginning of this video, and when you mentioned "Bernard Purdie" as his "funk" drumming influence, I was like.. who?? (yeah, not much who's who knowledge around famous drummers). Dug around a bit and found his "shuffle" explanation video that he did for Drumeo. I had the biggest smile on my face after watching that video! Thanks for the snippet of history regarding his influences, as that just opened up my mind further. I've always been drawn to MIke Clark's (Headhunters/Herbie Hancock) style, and after watching the Purdie video, thought he HAS to had also been influenced by him as well. Ok, now back to your video!

Exellent video you made here ! I did not hear that one influence of Bill's that you mentioned in your video. Could you tell me who it was ? I know Gene Kupa was one of Bill's big influences as well . Bill is my number 1 drummer in the world . Mike Bordin is my 2nd favorite .

My favorite Sabbath album is Volume 4 The best song on that one is Wheels of Confusion, That song has a good drum line. Bill Ward was either shit faced drunk or tripping on Acid(On Stage) and Tony is missing his finger tips and Ozzy is just Ozzy. For that reason It can't be replacated or copied, Black Sabbath is one in a Million and theres miles and miles of it an endless supply in there bone yard. Ozzy is God.(((((((((((((((((((((((Trump 2024))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
