Hey! I opened up my Hoobs and it looks like the board inside is not a Raspberry Pi, but a Banana Pi? BPI-M2-Berry. Tried every image, but none seem to work. Any clues?
Hi, thanks for the video. I went through the whole process, but can get the hoobs connected. Also, I noticed it has a solid red light inside, Is there something else I have to do? Thanks
Solid red signals stable power so that's a good sign. The green LED should flicker a lot when booting and then will probably go off. Are you connecting over Ethernet or WiFi? You'll have an easier time doing the initial setup over Ethernet and you should see the lights on the Ethernet port flicker signalling data is being transmitted.
Could you do a video on something like a Mac mini and if it’s worth it still. I need a device for streaming videos, browsingand listening to music. Also maybe a video about it being a media server… Love the content! Glad you’re back!
My friend just bought an M1 Mini and he absolutely loves it. He's actually doing the move from Windows HTPC to Mac Mini. The M1 Mac Mini supports HDR10 so it's a nice option for home theatre. With the spring Apple event looming, I'm holding on to see if we get M1 Max/Pro or even an M2 Mini. Are you thinking about running Kodi or something similar?
@@tech_craft yeah I’d like to be able to stream football matches at my desk but then if we want to watch our library of home videos I’d want to be able to stream to the TV… not sure of the best way forward… only ever used windows machines and have not even had a computer for last 5 years relying solely on iPad. I was thinking Mac mini as it ties in with my current eco system
Will you be doing another dive into Wyze Cams on HOOBS? I’m running V3s, and not really interested in killing the firmware and loosing the built in features. I got an an Nvidia Shield TV, and was running TinyCam Pro on it and bringing the cameras into HOOBS that way, but the frame rate was really slow. I’m sure there is a way to use that setup and optimize the settings to get better frame rates, I’m just not sure what to do. Glad to see you back.
I will be doing the Wyze Cams setup - I just need to get hold of them. The version that is available in the UK isn't so great, so I want to get a US one. The Shield TV idea is an interesting one. I have a Shield kicking about somewhere so I can give that setup a go.
@@tech_craft I can order a V3 and ship it to you, let me know if you’re interested. Not sure if YT does messages, if it does drop me a message with your email and I’ll get ahold of you, or drop it in a comment and I’ll get ahold of you that way. My idea with the Shield was that it had more processing power than most anything else I could install TinyCam on, but I think Windows 11 is going to add support for Android Apps soon, so that might be a better way to go at some point.
Thanks for the offer! The HOOBS team has kindly offered to ship me some devices so I can make these tutorials. I think the Shield setup should be fine. Where are you running Hoobs?
hi glad you are back, my Hoobs is on version 4.0.110 and no updates to be had, should I do a backup with all the bridges I have installed as im guessing this will all be gone after a new install is done, will the backup then work and install all the bridges that are there at the moment or will it be a complete start again?
Backup works nearly always for me, but I always like to use a new SD card when doing the flash. I have two that I rotate, keeping one always with a known working set up.
Thanks for the video. I use HOOBs for my home. Is there a program I can do a backup/mirror my SD card? I would like to have a backup card incase the SD card I am using become corrupt. It would be nice to be able to take out my SD card and insert the back up card and be back up and running without reprogramming everything. Thanks again for the video. I will be following.
It’s been a while since I did this on Windows but I believe the current best option is still Win32 Disk Imager: sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/
Thanks for this video. I'm trying to go through this process to restore my service, using the Balena Etcher app on a Mac to reflash my SD card (for Raspberry Pi) but unfortunately, I keep getting an error warning saying "the elevated process died unexpectedly". Any suggestions?
@@tech_craft Actually, I was finally able to do this by using a very old version of Balena Etcher. The problem was, I was trying to do this on an old 2008 iMac running on Catalina OS (the only computer I have available at the moment), and for whatever reason the newer versions of Balena Etcher wouldn't play nice with the older operating system. I also checked into installing the Raspberry Pi imager, per your advice, but unfortunately I would need a newer version of Mac OS to do so. Thanks to a Google search on "Mac Catalina and Balena Etcher" I was able to find a thread in their support forum describing this workaround, and I am back in business!
Hi, I did the update just like you showed it on my RaspberryPi 4. After that my hoobs does not show up in my network, regardless if connected via cable or if I try to reach the wifi access point to set it up. It's not even in the list of connected devices in my routers device list. Any suggestions anybody?

Thank you, it certainly got me out of a jam. Could not update anything. Now I am good to go. Thank again for taking the time to help others

does this wipe all bridges an accessories?? and if so is there a way to get a back up? (I can't access my current Hoobs install via ethernet)

Tried refresh, now it doesn’t work at all. Power light lights up, no activity from LAN connection. I’m worse than where I started…

Have you tried using Raspberry Pi Imager as an alternative to Balena? It's possible there's a bug.

Question. Do you know if hoobs can work with a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4. Thanks
Certainly can. You'll need to flash the Hoobs image on to the CM4, but you'll have no problem getting it to work.
@@tech_craft ok Thanks.

Are you able to connect the Pi to a monitor to see what, if any, error messages are being reported?
12.7290581
-I end Kernel panic
- not syncing: Attempted to kill init! exitcode=Ox00000100
That is the error it showed me after hooking it up to a monitor
Yow! Which image did you download? I’ll burn it on to one of my Pi 4s and check!
Now I downloaded the one specifically labeled for the 4B and it worked. Thank you so much for your help!!!
Perfect!
Is it okay to buy Hoobs for the uk?
Absolutely. I’m using Hoobs in the UK. Power is from a standard USB power adapter
@@tech_craft I am a beginner and have no/little tech experience , do you think it is to completed to do?
Sorry complicated
