How to Change the Engine Oil on Ram 1500 5.7L Hemi (2005-2022)

Our Blauparts step-by-step video shows how to change your Ram 1500 engine oil and oil filter on models with the 5.7L Hemi gasoline engine. Although we demonstrate this DIY how-to tutorial on a 2019 Ram 1500 with the 5.7L Hemi engine, this information also applies to all 2005-2022 Ram 1500 models with a Hemi 5.7L engine. There are some slight visual differences in the subframe and oil filter areas between model years, but the general steps and procedures shown still apply.
We discuss the necessary steps and procedures on how to drain the oil, replace the engine oil filter, fill the engine with oil, the oil fill capacity, and the correct Ram Hemi oil type specification.

Holy cow, the zip lock bag trick is freaking GOLD….wish I’d have seen this 30 years ago!

I used this idea on my 2002 VW Passat with the 1.8 engine. The oil filter was located in a terrible spot, you couldn’t drop the filter down below the engine, you had to pull it up from above. The plastic bag didn’t eliminate all the spilled oil but it helped to minimize it.

I noticed you filled up the oil filter and then you said you put in 7 quarts of oil, would that not be too much oil if the max is 7 quarts? Great Video by the way!
