Joel makes Ellie feel safer but it's the complete opposite for Joel...Ellie makes him feel more scared and I don't exactly blame him considering he already lost a daughter once 💔
Oh and in the game, Joel was actually fighting the guy off on the second floor and they both fell off at some point with Joel being impaled on a piece of rebar. He HAD to pull it out
I don't understand why people don't get it
The only time you don't pull something out is if you can remain still and be transported via ambulance or gurney. Joel had to climb up a horse and ride it for miles. If he had kept the broken piece of wood in his stomach, it would've 100% killed him outright, due to the amount of damage it would've done outside of the existing damage.
There is no right situation, in 99.9% of cases Joel is dead regardless of whether he leaves it in or pulls it out. But in the 0.01% chance that he lives, pulling it out was the smartest thing he could do.

A trauma doctor who reacted to this episode pretty much said the same, the reason you are taught to keep it in the wound, is so that it can be taken out in controlled environment where the wound can be treated immediately by a professional, that's not even remotely an option for Joel here so he might aswell remove it immediately to avoid it causing even more damage. 🤷‍♂

@@RaXXha Yeah, anatomically, there's the external oblique muscles that are very taunt when standing and help us to twist at the waist. Any sort of movement with that bat handle imbedded in the obliques would cause a great amount of pain whenever Joel tried to bend or pivot. Getting up on the horse would've been near impossible for him without removing the handle. People who watch shows and movies have learned that "if you remove the object, you'll bleed out" but what most of the shows don't tell us is how our bodies simply can't move or "do things" when we have an object interfering with motion.

If you like the bonding moments between the two by just talking, then you should watch a no commentary 100% playthrough of Part 1 (the remake for PS5 / PC) and the DLC (Left Behind) after this. They should cover all the notes & collectibles (might have to pause the video to read them) and all the optional dialogs that could be missed. Because the game has much more moments like that, compared to the show, and you could see the differences & similarities between the game and the show. You could also do the same with a no commentary 100% playthrough for Part 2 (the sequel, which will be several seasons for the show over many years), because the show actually has a lot of references for Part 2, especially this episode you just watched, which you might want to re-watch afterwards.

"The US is quite large", yeah the size of the US is something I kinda fail to grasp regularly. I have a pretty good idea of US geography, but I can't help to relate it to my own country (France). I'm like, "ok, they want to go from Boston to Wyoming, direction wise it's like they are in Strasbourg and need to go to Caen", except the distance between Strasbourg and Caen is about 700 km... The biggest distance across France, let's say between Brest (northwest) and Nice (southeast) is 1000 km as the bird flies, and France is one the biggest country in Europe! So everytime someone mentions the distance Ellie and Joel actually travelled I'm floored.

That is further than Dublin, Ireland, to Istanbul, Turkey,.
There's a reason not all of us get along here in the US. We are quite far apart, and cultures have drifted. I went to school way back when useful things were actually taught. One of which was actual distances. Teenagers here in the US do not think about distance as a concept here anymore.

Locations from the show (from the start of Joel's journey until now in order):
-Austin, Texas: The DEEP South of the United States. Joel and Tommy's home. Where they lived before the apocalypse and the site of Sarah's death.
-Boston, Massachusetts: The far East coast, somewhat near where New York is. Where Joel and Tommy ended up after the apocaylpse. One of the bases of the Fire Flies and Marlene/Ellie's home city. Also the foundation of the United States revolution against the British. Some would say this is where America was founded.
-Kansas City, Kansas/Missouri: A weird one for you both. Kansas City is actually split up across two states, Kansas and Missouri, and is a rare major city that does so. Since it's not specified in the show where exactly they are, just know that this is in a region of the country known as "The Midwest". It's in the smack middle of the United States basically. Known for it's agriculture and cattle ranching now a days, it's a barron wasteland in the apocalypse.
-Jackson, Wyoming: (currently for much of this episode), a city in Wyoming, a North/West state in the United States, nearly 1600 KM (1000 miles) from Kansas City AND 3300 KM (2100 miles) from Boston where Joel and Ellie started at. A rural state, even now a days, with little population, which may be why it's easier for Tommy and his settlement to fight off the few that there are. To be clear, Joel and Ellie have now traveled the majority of the United States at this point with very few states Westward if they were to keep going straight West.
-Boulder, Colorado: (briefly at the end of this episode in the university) a relatively shorter distance than what they've already traveled (although on horse back it would take awhile), it's about 530 KM (330 miles) South from Wyoming where Tommy's camp is. Wyoming is directly North of Colorado.
I hope this provides you ladies with kind of a distinction of just how far and how much Joel and Ellie have traveled so far!!

They started out in Texas, then we transitioned to Boston after the 20 year gap. We left Boston and headed toward Wyoming to find Tommy, stopping to see Frill on the way, but they were closer to Boston than Wyoming. We ended up in Kansas City with Henry and Sam, a city that basically straddles the border between Missouri and Kansas. Then we headed to Wymoing to finally reach Tommy in this episode, in Jackson, which is to the west side of the state. They went to Salt Lake City in Utah to find the researchers at the end of the episode.

4:51 can relate hard to that statement... Although, Serbia not on our level whatsoever, so don't worry)
It fascinating to judge this show through non-gamer pov, but also through people with similar taste in storytelling and characters (Attack on Titan, Breaking Bad). Game already was a perfect movie/tv series in my opinion and the show improved only small aspect of the game re: episode 3.

In this episode, the series, having come out after both games, shows two very important elements of the second game by integrating them perfectly into the story of the first. In fact, the city of Jackson is shown to us already built and populated as seen in the second chapter, when in fact in the first it was not in that advanced state, and the little girl who is seen hiding behind a pole, while Ellie is eating, is a very sweet easter egg for those who played TLOU Part 2, showing us something that was only told in the game :)

They initially intended on having the town of Jackson in the first game. but they could not make it happen due to time and budget reasons. They had even made some concept art for it. But ultimately we ended up seeing the town from a distance and visit the dam for the town.
