@@partical7 I do suppose it would work but is not practical, the wax paper is to keep it from drying out and its way to much pollen patty for the hive to eat before hive Beatles have a field day.

Nutrition is so important but overlooked by most beekeepers. We are very close to Maple bloom in Southern Ohio, already at 41 GDD. Just a few more warm sunny days will do it. I started adding small patties this past weekend to help the girls out.

Thank you Kamon !! This is my 3rd go around with bees, Its been several years since I've kept bees, I was very discouraged when they all flew away after a few years because I realize I did not manage them and did nothing to help them. Waiting for my brand new nucs to arrive, your info is so helpful. I'm hoping for success this time. Thanks for all your videos.

Nice vid that adresses many points.
The easiest way i found until now is,
    1 Part of dry sub
1.4 Parts of Syrup (HFCS or inverted)
    0.05 Oil (Canola/Sunflower)
mix in a bucket with a drill, pour into a plastic box with a plastic liner. Wait a week to settle.
Turn over and remove the liner, now take a big knife and cut into slabs, either directly place in a hive or put into a parchment paper sandwich bag for storage.

I got a lot of questions on my recipe and I mentioned my last couple of videos that I use your old recipe with bee pro. I think the vegetable oil is perfect for keeping it pliable. I use my wife’s big honkin kitchen aid mixer and it will do a double batch. I might try the paint mixer next time. I was afraid it would be too thick. Thanks for the video 👍👍🐝🐝

Hey mr Reynolds! I’m live in Va and enjoy all your UA-cam videos. I buy my bee supplement from Dadant . I mix heavy sugar syrup w/a small amount of Honey bee healthy into my pollen substitute patties. I found that wax paper is easier for the bees to shred up small enough to remove from the hive . My bees have consumed two one pound patties so far and I plan on feeding it to them until spring . My hive populations are exploding. The bees have been bringing in so much dandelion and maple nectar and pollen they have began building burr comb under the feeder rim just below the moisture box. If all goes well this spring I plan on getting five frame nucleus from these hive . I bought three established hives last July and like many areas we did not get anything from golden rod . I would like to purchase several queens from you this spring. My plans to expand from three hives to fifteen by the end of summer 2020 . You’re doing a great job .

This is my first year doing pollen patties. First time I've had all my hives survive through our long north-eastern winters. 7 out of 7. I made a homemade batch up, a little runny for the first time, but I just had enough pollen from some I had saved up. Only 1 hive seemed upset putting it in. This is also the hive that has consumed the least amount of candy. The rest of the hives were quickly distracted and were busy at the pollen. I am going to need a lot hive equipment soon. I only have one spare brood set up and ( whole hive ) I am working on figuring numbers out for a 12 or 13 frame box to house a double 5 frame over it, to attempt to run a multiple queen box. I want to see how a flow super will work with that. I haven't had luck with it yet, 3 years I've had it out, bees never filled it enough yet. 🧡

Just a thought....the average yokel doesn't weigh ingredients...mostly because they don't own scales. ..so could/would you give out measurements in volume ratio instead? If you don't mind I would like to ask you a question. Have you ever used either organic apple cider vinegar or Honey bee healthy in your patties to help aid in digestive gut health? Both products do that. The apple cider vinegar also helps to keep your patties fresh longer as well. It does not take much. I think in a 5 gallon bucket I have used 1/4 cup of apple cider vinager. The goney bee healthy i went to the directions as if I were mixing the pro sweet.

I don’t see the video for it, how does it differ from the pollen patties, and would also be interested if you could explain here or in a video the different patties available and when/why to use each. (IE winter vs pollen vs brood) Also have you continued the Algae experiment or was the second video the end of that trial? Curious how the long term effect went using those but again haven’t seen any follow up on them.

Soy can work and many beekeepers still use it but there is a compound in soy that effects the bees and makes it less productive than other sources. Many pros still use it though. It is ideal not to have it if you can find a better source for a reasonable price... but it is still ok to have it if you get what I mean

It's an Asian lady beetle. Looks similar to a ladybug but more orange instead of red. And not beneficial like ladybugs are. Here in the south they will invade your house by the hundreds in wintertime!

Which kind of syrup if not using Pro sweet? Corn syrup, Karo syrup, Aunt Jemima?

There is nothing out there II am aware of. I ordered a 50 bucket and they are not eating it. A month later and the patty is still there. They crawl on it but have not eaten it.

Very interesting. I have a few that are not wanting to touch the stuff much but they are little 2-3 frame colonies. Keep me posted!

Could you use 2:1 syrup instead of Pro Sweet or honey?

2:1 will make the patties real runny

Why don’t you just mix pollen and honey from your own bees?

Who are these people that say such things to you!?
They obviously haven't read Winnie the Pooh, and therefor had a questionable upbringing.
The only reason for being a bee is to make honey. And the only reason for making honey is so I can eat it. ~ Winnie the Pooh

Bravo. Whats the difference in feeding cattle hay in the winter? Livestock needs fed in dearth.
