As many have rightfully pointed out, sunlight can very easily damage your quests panel if it shines through the lenses. Was too focused on the more physical kind of damage we would normally see on screens to remember this. Please keep your headsets lenses away from sunlight! Have a great day and see you next time 😃
One reason this guy is so great is that his intro is "there are timestamps if you want to skip" rather than "hit like and subscribe and my patreon and merch".
Can't see it working properly at all. For descent visuals, so like it's currently used for WiFi transfer, you need stable 200...300 Mbit/s and low latency (let's say less than 30ms). That would be the requirement for your internet connection... will be just not available for the majority of gamers.

I have used Shadow for VR games in the past, and it was mind blowing. I have a PC and just wanted to try it, and I was impressed. Best use of cloud streaming I can think of.
Maybe you can damage the panel by holding the quest in bright sunlight and if it hits from the right angle it could burn in with very focused light by means of the Fresnel lenses inverse focusing capabilities. Fun fact: Fresnel Lenses were invented in 1822 by the french physicist Augustin Jean Fresnel for the spotlights in lighthouses. (Yes.. 1822. So we needed over 200 years to invent new lenses and make them somewhat affordable, because there were no practical use cases or needs so far for small formfactor pancake lenses.)
So many companies have tried cloud gaming, and none of them have been able to pull it off successfully. I can see it being even worse for VR due to latency requirements. Hopefully they can figure all of that stuff out.
Xbox absolutely pulled it off imo. They just included cloud with ultimate, that literally adds a whole bunch of xbox games to be played on a phone, tablet, or underpowered laptop/PC. The other companies failed because you had to buy the titles again, xbox just gives you a catalog and even access to your home console and games, since remote play and cloud work the exact same.
Cloud streaming Pcvr games would be such a game changer for meta. Especially for developers who want to develop for the headset but are making game concepts that can't be handled on that hardware at the moment
And here I am, still waiting for window positions and heights to be saved, support added for the Pro Controllers's touch pads (could be quite useful for PCVR via SteamVR which allows us to map them) and simply just an implementation for torso based movement based on the upper body tracking that would result in similar awesomeness like the DecaMove did, but without requiring a BT device and constant manual recalibrations...
Not exactly new news about the Quest 2 lens panel working on a Quest 3s. Isnt that all over the news and advertising saying its a Quest 3 with Queat 2 lens. I guess its nice to confirm the announcement though.
I guess the bigger news is the fact that it's identical and the plugs are the same. It's one thing if it was the same tech and resolution. It's another for them to be literally identical physically 🙂
Internet latency and stability are the biggest thing they'll have to keep an eye on. Connection drops and input delays are the real killers. That said, I regularly remote into my PC with Virtual Desktop, even on slow 10-30mbps, as long as it's stable, it's playable. Slower connection speeds require a lower bitrate; as someone who wears glasses, that's just like having a smudge in your lenses. But the human brain is pretty adaptable and ignores that after a bit.
our adaptation to things that you would normally go "oh..." at is pretty weird. most people are turned off 30fps in most videogames... until they actually play it and are perfectly fine with it, not even realising that so many games they play already run 30...
"I'm not entirely certain what you would have to do in order to damage your Quest 3S display panel" Sunlight lol. I could see it possibly being a problem with projectors too.
A benchmark of Avalance will be delivering real low black levels properly without macroblocking it into unplayableness like Stadia did in real dark places in games.
Ah great, sorry about that. Premiere does that from time to time and reverts my graphics. Sources are in the description in case you want to read the article though.
Wait, can I use the games are already on steam? I know I won't get a real answer. I wonder if it is subscription like GamePass or you have to buy the games off avalanche.
if i have to choose only one upgrade for next headset, would definitely pick a much better FOV ...can't stop noticing the goggles view regardless of good graphics...
6:12 I always thinking standalone vr headsets better should be separate its VR GOGGLES and the COMPUTE MODULE. just like meta orion. the compute module you can put it in your pocket wired to the goggles or just slap it behind your head. it could be better if the compute module is intechangeable/upgradeable so you don't need to buy a whole headset again and again.
hoping avalanche works similar to geforce now, will be very bummed if i have to pay for another games subscription especially considering i already have a pcvr library.

I don't think too many people are shocked about the 3S being a "pro" version of the 2. the Lenses are a big giveaway on that and the size of the headset compared to the 3, also screams a "masked 2".
