The esslinger adapter converts to a small block ford bellhousing pattern. Anything that would fit behind a small block ford should bolt right up. The Explorers have a rear sump oil pan, but it looks like it extends a bit further forward than the mustang pan. If you need even more room, the 01-11 2.3L ranger pan has the smallest rear sump.
Why did you decide to do the 4 instead of the 3.5 v6 tt in the Taurus SHO? Base engine and tune would have put you at 465hp and 485tq. Or is it not convertible? Just seems like you’d hit your HP goals with a reliable engine a lot easier.
Mostly due to packaging and price. A twin turbo V6 is a lot heavier and wider than the 2.0. The 3.5 is also quite a bit more expensive. I don't think the 3.5 is a bad choice, I just prefer the 2.0.

It’s very appealing, I just am not sure if it’s possible…
I had my driveshaft shortened by a few inches, and swapped from the stock front yoke to one for a TKX. Depending on your choice of transmission and engine mounts, your driveshaft length will differ slightly.
@@mosesandres3385 it's pretty good for the price. The fitment was great, but there is some pretty obvious mold defects around the hood scoop. It'll require a little bit of body work.
I actually have a bit of experience with those, I swapped one into my Mustang II like 10 years ago. Those things are bullet proof, but are getting harder and harder to find. Shouldn't be too hard of a swap though, as the Foxbodys came from the factory with the Lima engines, and the new edge is not much different.
In stock form it might look like a bad choice. But the 2.0 actually has a stronger block than the 2.3. Also the price difference is crazy. I got my 2.0 for around $600, most used 2.3s go for 4-5 times that amount.
@@stroupperformance9384 I have a 90 hatch. Was originally putting in a 351w. Then I found the diesel pump UK channel. I want to build it as an endurance race car.

Dude. You are bad azsz!!! Its rare a YTber is so clear and explains his build so well. I have many questions, but here is my main one. Would you consider this a budget swap? I mean 450whp isnt bad at all for a stock 4cyl block. *You earned a sub btw. Looking forward to street pulls and maybe some Mexico action.
It can definitely be a budget swap, I spent more money in quite a few places that you really don't have to. I'd say this swap could definitely be done for like 3-4k with all new parts other than the engine. Making 400-450whp out of one is probably another $2500, again with all new parts off the shelf. It definitely could be done cheaper if you shop around for used parts.
The 1 piece headlights look better to me even though I know they aren't the real deal.. But just about every Foxbody I see, The headlights don't line up right. My Buddy has a very nice Notchback with a lot of man hours into it and that always bothered me about the front of his car.. And parts for these cars don't exactly fall off of trees these days. These days there are a lot of people doing Foxbody builds looking for parts that aren't made anymore. The next town over there's a Coyote swapped Fox body that is very nice..
@stroupperformance9384 another swap in the 4cyl range I'd be curious to see is the 2.7l that's in the newer silverados. I got it in my 22 silverado and really impressed stock it's 310hp. And 425 torque.
A variety of reasons, cost, packaging, and my experience. The 2.0 in this car was ~$600, it fits very well with tons of room to work around, and I have a lot of experience building and modifying the 2.0.
That doesn't seem to be as much of an issue with this gen engine. The later gen open deck blocks are much worse. I would not recommend anyone swap one of those in, or even purchase a car with one.
That engine has a lot of problems with head gasket water intrusion! I do like the engine, and it seems in the end they corrected the issue with the hole in between the bores, however, you’ve got a 15’ model! The output for the displacement it’s really good, but not reliable at all!
That is not an issue with this engine as it is an earlier single scroll engine with the closed deck block. It is not the later twin scroll open deck block. These engines are very reliable, even when pushed to twice the factory rate power.
@@stroupperformance9384 they redesigned some stuff for the 17’ models such as twin scroll turbo and compression ratio, but, the block it’s the same. The closed deck was on N/A Focus (completely different animal).
I have built quite a few of these engines, and can confirm, all engines with the single scroll turbo are closed deck, just like the Focus ST. Check out my Ecoboost 102 video, I show one of my old blocks that failed due to a stuck injector.

I wanted to do something a bit different and I wanted the car to be as light as I could comfortably make it. As the car is right now, it weighs just under 2700lbs. By spring it should hopefully make ~400hp, which is plenty for me.
@@stroupperformance9384 I didn't know you could get that kind of power honestly, I'm just a die hard 3.5 guy, I'm sure a 3.5 would have tons of issues trying to shoehorn inside the engine bay, but I am interested to know the weight difference from a 2.7 to a 3.5
The 2.3 blocks are weaker than the 2.0 blocks. If I put a 2.3 in, I would eventually have to swap everything over to a 2.0 block. There is still an opportunity to stroke the 2.0 out to 2.3 in the future.

@stroupperformance9384 how do you like it? Was there alot of prep work to make it fit well?
@@mosesandres3385 it's pretty good for the price. The fitment was great, but there is some pretty obvious mold defects around the hood scoop. It'll require a little bit of body work.
@stroupperformance9384 would you say it would require some more fiberglass work or just simple body work? Definitely looks great on the car.
@@mosesandres3385 just simple body work
2.7 baby
I was hoping to see the 3.5 ecoboost
Nah, just a 2.0. Plenty more power to come though!
I've had those 1 piece headlights on my 91 gt .
How did they hold up?
@@stroupperformance9384 real good. They were a lot easier to install than the 3 piece
Where in PA are ya ? I'm in Lower Bucks County.
I'm in Kittanning, about an hour north of Pittsburgh.
Cool Fox 🗿
I’ve been wanting to do an old 2.3 so swap into a new edge. Any idea how similar or different the physical swap is?
When you say old 2.3, do you mean the SOHC Lima engine?
@@stroupperformance9384 yeah the 84-86 svo motors.
@@stroupperformance9384 found a whole svo for 4k last.month....no money..
I'm curious why not a 2.3 ecoboost
In stock form it might look like a bad choice. But the 2.0 actually has a stronger block than the 2.3. Also the price difference is crazy. I got my 2.0 for around $600, most used 2.3s go for 4-5 times that amount.
How do you feel about a 3.0L diesel from a Mercedes E 300D???
I digress....... in a foxbody
That could be an interesting swap, I'm not a huge diesel fan. But I'm all for doing things differently.
@@stroupperformance9384 I have a 90 hatch. Was originally putting in a 351w. Then I found the diesel pump UK channel. I want to build it as an endurance race car.
A diesel would probably be great for an endurance car.
JEM making mounts that utilize factory k member.
That is correct, but they did not make those mounts when I uploaded this video.
What did you use for the wiring harness?
I used an ANT Steering Electronics harness, I originally used their ECU as well but it was unable to be tuned with HP Tuners. The engine harness is a stock Focus ST harness.
What size is your wheels/tires? I heard the rears are 18x10. Thank you
It's a square setup, same size front and rear 18x10 with 0 backspacing.
Thank you. What sized tires are you running? Great build!
@@Pete-lz5eg 275/35R18 on all 4 corners.
I heard you said you sell the motor mounts for 100 on this video how do I get on that from you
You can find them on my website. Stroupperformance.com
Does a 6r80 or 10r80 work behind the ecoboost?
A 6R80 from an Ecoboost mustang should bolt right up as they have the same bolt pattern as the 2.0.
@@stroupperformance9384 Awesome man. Thanks for this! Watching your other vids now
The 1 piece headlights look better to me even though I know they aren't the real deal..
That's what I've always seen too, the guys that say the most are the guys with the 3 piece headlights pointing 6 different directions.
I want to see more
Definitely more to come. Stay tuned!
What wide body kit is this ? Maier racing?
Yes sir, Maier racing 3" kit
Sic
🤘I prefer the one piece headlights, totally look better
I've wanted to coyote swap my 65 mustang for years... but the prices are nuts.
This seems like a interesting swap instead.
Check out Garage52B on Instagram, he is building a 2.0 swapped first gen mustang. He does some amazing work.
@stroupperformance9384 will do. Think it definitely would be a interesting build for nice restromod
@stroupperformance9384 another swap in the 4cyl range I'd be curious to see is the 2.7l that's in the newer silverados. I got it in my 22 silverado and really impressed stock it's 310hp. And 425 torque.
Nothing like a V8, and those fenders the problem when you do the back you can't go back
I could always buy a pair of quarter panels and weld them in if I wanted to go back. I probably won't though.
Why the four cylinder and not the 3.5 V6?
A variety of reasons, cost, packaging, and my experience. The 2.0 in this car was ~$600, it fits very well with tons of room to work around, and I have a lot of experience building and modifying the 2.0.
What ECU are you using?
I'm currently using the JEM Sport ECU.
What site did you find the “knock off” hood?
I got it from carbon creations website. They have a carbon version and a fiberglass version.
@@stroupperformance9384 awesome thanks! I love the style of that hood but don’t need the fancy carbon fibre, fibreglass is good enough for me lol
Hope you dont run into any cylinder intrusion faulty block
That doesn't seem to be as much of an issue with this gen engine. The later gen open deck blocks are much worse. I would not recommend anyone swap one of those in, or even purchase a car with one.
Ecoboost out of an Escape? You know those were recalled, right? They like to crack the block between 2-3.
Not a recall on this engine, it was a recall on the newer twin scroll engines.
@@stroupperformance9384 Ah, then it should be more than okay!
What wire harness did you use
I used an engine harness from a 2015+ Focus ST.
@@stroupperformance9384 thanks
@@stroupperformance9384 seems that you’re right…
I’m glad to admit that I was mistaken,sense I own a 13’ Escape 2.0.
I guess I’ll be holding on to it for a little while longer!
What kinda wheels are those?
American racing vintage grooves.
What size tire are you running in the front?
I'm running 275/35R18s in all four corners.
And same 18x10 +0 on all four? Thanks
@@eddiegarcia2953 yes sir. Same specs for wheels and tires on all four. Just as an FYI, the rear is a SN95 8.8 so it is slightly wider than the fox. Same with the front spindles they are from a 94-95 mustang. And 1.5" spacers on all four corners as well.
@@stroupperformance9384 Thanks brother, car is looking awesome.
Why use the weak 2 liter that has 00000 performance support and not a 2.3????
2.0 is stronger and arguably has more aftermarket support than the 2.3. Even big power 2.3 builds use the 2.0 block.
@@stroupperformance9384 Gotcha, I just researched a little. Apparently the 2.3 has weak support between 2 & 3 where the 2.0 doesn't. Interesting
Why not a 2.3 swap ?
2.3 has an open deck block that is prone to breaking at the power levels that I want to push this 2.0
Source for $600.00-$1,000.00 EcoBoost engines?
LKQ is the best source that I have found. Check my Ecoboost swap 101 video, I list out the year, make and models that you can get the 2.0 Ecoboost from.
Those engines are heavy when lifting into the bed of a truck…. I would know!
Why not a 5.0 coyote
overdone swap.
Cool build. Build it how you want and have fun with it. That’s the whole point. Fellow mustang dude. I have a few. Enjoy. Mustangs are the best to do anything you want with them.
I wanted to do something a bit different and I wanted the car to be as light as I could comfortably make it. As the car is right now, it weighs just under 2700lbs. By spring it should hopefully make ~400hp, which is plenty for me.
I was hoping this was a 3.5 eco swap, to bad, all of the lost potential
For what this car will be used for 400-450whp will be plenty. Tons of weight savings over the 3.5 as well.
@@stroupperformance9384 I didn't know you could get that kind of power honestly, I'm just a die hard 3.5 guy, I'm sure a 3.5 would have tons of issues trying to shoehorn inside the engine bay, but I am interested to know the weight difference from a 2.7 to a 3.5
I'm not sure what the 2.7 weighs but it has to be close to the 3.5. The 3.5 weighs about 200lbs more than the 2.0 though.
Too bad you couldn't get a 2.3L ecoboost in there
The 2.3 blocks are weaker than the 2.0 blocks. If I put a 2.3 in, I would eventually have to swap everything over to a 2.0 block.
There is still an opportunity to stroke the 2.0 out to 2.3 in the future.
@@stroupperformance9384 I thought the 2.3 block in the Focus RS was stronger. Thanks for the info 👍
Trying to wrap my mind around "knockoff desh" its like a double negative, maybe thats a legit Canadian thing idk but desh isnt legit in the southern U.S.
I am probably pronouncing the company's name wrong. The original maker of that style bumper was DECH. The ones on my car are reproductions from a different company.
